  • London Euston Station in 1986
Carrying on with my whirlwind visit to some of the Termini stations in London on 28th November 1986 a chance to visit London Euston was taken. Around mid afternoon (bit of a lull period in the day). I captured on film the temporary failure of the 13.10 service to Birmingham New St. But after fitters attention the train was ready to depart, once it had departed the scene livened up a bit, and several class 86's and 87's arrived and departed. Most local services to Northampton and beyond were in the capable hands of EMU classes 310 and 313. Not a "pendolino" in sight. How the traction scene has changed since the withdrawal of the AC Electric Locomotives and how much quieter the station is.

Thank you so much for this amazing upload, you have captured the atmosphere perfectly! I love the fact that you upload the `raw` footage, it`s not just about seeing the trains moving, it`s the waiting for them and hearing the platform announcements that makes these videos perfect, Really enjoying these 86 uploads - Thank you!
    Kind regards
    Kev

Fascinating to see how light engine movements were constrained, obviously in an attempt to appease the gods of diagramming and make sure that everyone ended up where and when they ultimately needed to be - the black art of unit failure or delay!

Great footage and great memories! Despite me spottin around the terminals 1985-6, i didnt manage to take any snaps until the 20th on the following month. Decades later, i went on to find myself a diesel loco-driving girlfriend temporarily, who frequented the local trains here at this time from Kilburn area, she would love this vid!!!

Superb - I did manage a day or two at Euston in 1987 I think. I liked how it was London's most modern terminus, but the trackwork was pure steam -age bullhead rail with lots of slips and crossings. I loved the AC electrics, and they looked really smart with the grey extended right round the cab fronts. I think I got some photos of the Manchester Pullman with its then new MkIIIs. I'm loving the unedited vids - the atmosphere is great. Do you have anything from the 1980-84 period, before sectorisation?

The chances were the more prestigious services had 87's on....like the Clansman, Manchester pullmans, Glasgows, but it really was pot luck.....many thanks....Mark

Two 85s idling at the buffer stops were my last in 1989. Ran out of film.

One class I was destined never to get on film. Rotten luck indeed but I do have a fantastic record from 1985 to 2002 showing the steady decline of the old beasts before the 66s arrived. 31s 33s 47s 37s and 56s and of course 20s.
