James wrote this song about his childhood he was brought up in a very religious family he had to sit in the hallway during science class and never felt like he fit his dad left in his early teens and a few years later his mom died of cancer she refused to to go to the doctor or take medication because of their religion James said he always felt like if he had been stronger and made her get medical care she might still be alive
