Hey John, The "star ratchet" mechanism you mention , used in the DT Swiss hubs , has beed around longer than 20 years. It was first used in HUGI hubs which changed to DT Swiss years ago.Probably more like 30 years.
Elia Viviani have diferent saddle height in Dogma F8 (74 cm), Dogma F10 (76,5cm) Venge Vias (75cm) and now in the new Venge(74cm)! I see this information in Gcn videos of his bikes.
Fit can often be dynamic. Especially accross a number of years. Different sat tube angles, front-center, and frame stack measurements will affect saddle position. So will changes in your range of motion due to factors such as injury, different training routines, and of course good old fashioned age. Also, he might have a better bike fitter these days.
After spotting what I thought was a Bryton 530 on one of the Wilier Triestina bikes, I confirmed that they use this unit on their team bikes. So yes, a grand tour team uses it and now another. Why? Great unit. Price is superb.
Elia will have a problem finding a bell that will fit those handlebars. Actually I think it would be a lot more polite to use a bell in sprint finishes instead of just trying to barge a way through.
why doesn't the bar tape cover the entire bars? like I get the aero gains but surely a the wrap would be far more comfortable for long days in the saddle
Such a great design! I would choose this over a Tarmac any day. The stats are clear that Aero is way better than light weight on all but the hillest courses of greater than 6% grade.
I’mm 1 cm taller than Viviani (178 cm). We have the same saddle height, but my stem is 15 mm shorter (110 mm), my reach is 3 cm shorter. And I thought my position was already extreme, at least for me.
I'm not a great fan of the dark blue/black combo. I think quickstep's colours which are dark blue and a bit of white would have looked way better. It's still a pleasure "looking" at those top end bike don't get me wrong, they are so neat
#askgcntech paws vs. ratchets, Differences, durabilities, maintenance, watts, Do tell!? I see a whole video here but I would be happy with any explanation. Love this show, maybe more than GCN! Sorry Dan.
The DT Ratchet system offers a 360 degrees level of engagement at all time, wich means it's virtually impossible for your freehub to slip, or to break a pawl. And it's so easy to disassemble since it's 2 big ratchet rings, and 2 very big springs compared to the old fashion pawls and tiny springs system.
@@Drzhounder Cost: it depends on the grade you get but I think they are the best hubs for the price. As for Watts saving, every company will them that their system is the best. I know that some test revealed that Zipp or Onyx hubs were better, but I can only say that the gains are marginal when you consider the price. I just love my DT swiss hubs with the 54T ratchet system. Ultra simple and reliable, and the sound is good.
J S There’s 3 different ratchet sets available. 16 Tooth, 36 Tooth and 54T. More engagement = more drag to some, so you can have it whichever way you prefer.
After everyone launched big fat aero bikes in 2017-2018, now comes the time to the all-around (not as light as the light bikes, not as fat as the pure aero but still aero). just what's needed to get close t 6.8Kg... and tubulars still the best and unchanged for 80 years!!!!
that is one sweet looking ride! i own a Tarmac, but for comfort, My Treks are always better, even if a tad heavier than 6.8 k one of these days i will use a variety of wheelsets and try them, one by one on each bike, and see why one bike feels better than the other. wheelset A goes on bikes, 1,2,3 and compare the feel, and do the same with each of my three wheelsets. i think that works out to 27 tests? Augghhh! could you do it instead? i am sure that wheels to bikes are like marriages, full of compromise, but some marriages just book! they just boogie along in perfect harmony, super sympatico.
Bicycle porn at it's best. Lol. Another bike I can't afford and can only wish I had. 😉 Just like an old song "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with." Another great show. 👍
Interesting, He using di2 climbing shifter for sprint. That's SW-R9150, instead SW-R610. I think R610 is more neat for sprint shifting. Why He using R9150? (R610 also compatible with 9150,9170)
because the R610 is not compatible with any Shimano Di2 hydraulic groupsets, not 8070 or 9170, they only have two Di2 ports and don't have the dedicated sprint shifter ports that the non hydraulic Di2 shifters have
@@pantster9855 oh I misunderstand about that. I knew the only one satellite port on hydraulic groupsets, however I thought It can be compatible with r610. thanks!
licandres01 yes that's obvious, but why didn't they make a custom one for him ? He's a big name at the moment in the sport and is italian champion, so to me he deserves a custom bike. On top of that, i'm not a fan personally of the dark blue/black combo with a standard QS kit, but it's even worse with a red white and green kit
Wow... Aero bike with disc brakes, 50m deep wheels at 6.9 kilos... Awesome. How far we've come!

Love my Bryton 530 easy to see and gives all the capability I could ever need! Best of all is the price!

jorgefgr wow somethings up
Different shoe/pedal stack height i would assume.

Also interesting, his rim brake Dogma F10 was 400g heavier than this Disc Venge. 😮
Ruslan Allamuratov Uh, what?
If this is 6.92kg is there still a reason to use the lightweight model in pro cycling?
No reason for the new tarmac sl7
wow, that is quite light for an aero disc brake bike!
Nice freewheel sound ❤️👌
1:39 "Sticking with the front of the bike, this is something I really like" - Jon Cannings, aka Dr. Seuss.
That's a beauty John!
After spotting what I thought was a Bryton 530 on one of the Wilier Triestina bikes, I confirmed that they use this unit on their team bikes. So yes, a grand tour team uses it and now another. Why? Great unit. Price is superb.
I spy a Garmin vivoactive... Started a bit of running or something? Maybe we’ll see you on GTN soon
Elia will have a problem finding a bell that will fit those handlebars. Actually I think it would be a lot more polite to use a bell in sprint finishes instead of just trying to barge a way through.
And on this episode of Jon's grubby hands touching things, Elia Viviani's handlebar
And next think you know, the infield will have a couple of signs--Keep Off the Grass and Don't Touch the Bars.
I have the 2017 S-Works Venge Vias and I cannot understand how they could make this bike 2 pounds lighter...
That S-Works Venge looks gorgeous, sexy and hyper nice!
“I would weigh it again but there are ducks behind me” common excuse 😂
why doesn't the bar tape cover the entire bars? like I get the aero gains but surely a the wrap would be far more comfortable for long days in the saddle
I used to have a Bryton Rider 50 gps and it was excellent.
Such a great design! I would choose this over a Tarmac any day. The stats are clear that Aero is way better than light weight on all but the hillest courses of greater than 6% grade.
Yeah, and unless you’re a paid pro the differences mean nothing in the big scheme of things goofball.
I like how out of nowhere that they use some cheap 2x4 to hold the cycle up
What else is there to use? There's no factory made roadbike holder-uppers.
At the end are you saying you wouldn't want to "luck a duck" Jon?
My back hurts just by looking at that.
Lose some weight if u planning to ride a bicycle of this type
Did you lean the bike against a wooden log with the disc? I did this once and ended up contaminating my discs and pads with resin and bending the disc
duck-cam was the highlight for me tbh
does anyone know what frame size it is?
Any chance we'd have Sagan's Allez Sprint Disc here? Interested to see how they installed Di2.
The new Allez Sprint Disc is designed to accept Di2, unlike the original rim bike version.
how can it be 6.92kg. i have exactly this bike with the same config but frame size 58 and it weighs 7.8 kg???
This is not a bike, this is a war machine
What is the frame size?
I’mm 1 cm taller than Viviani (178 cm). We have the same saddle height, but my stem is 15 mm shorter (110 mm), my reach is 3 cm shorter. And I thought my position was already extreme, at least for me.

Magnifique :)
What size is it?
Ahh Jon, you lucky duck!
Aero bike with just 6.92kg. Fantastic.
And the bike size ??
i want to see the sworks venge bora team car
My Sprint Comp looks like this Venge. Tks
What frame size? 54?
Yes, it´s a 54cm.!
jorgefgr thank you! Very impressive bike
If You say so. Looks smaller - especially when James stood straight up next to it.....
Beautiful Bike

Anthony HT Dt Swiss's best hubs only have like 6 degrees engagement

Didn't catch the size - is it a 52?
54.
Can we get a bike check on Caleb Ewan? I want to hear the ridiculous dimensions on his cockpit.
Logan Peiffer 190 mm stem, 34cm wide bars. 😂
Is it a size 54 frame?
yes.
Love ❤

No, please Jon, it's okay. Don't ever stop touching the aero fly bar.
You'd think for all the money and science that's gone into that bike, they could make a round and balanced wheel....
the time of heavy aero, disc brake mounted bikes is over (if are willing to spend around 12.000€)
King!

So many cool bikes in the world to talk about. But always S-Works :(
Skshtoing(jaw droppin sound)!!!!
6.92kg ??? wow, the same as Tarmac Ultralight Disc on CLX32, so a little hard to belive.. maybe it's beacuse of tubular
I guess unlimited money buys one hell of a bike
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice not having a one-piece stem/handlebar

Super nice
This Venge is not the Venge Vias. This is the new Specialized Venge (no Vias).
125mm x 120mm o
Why Elia Viviani didn't get custom Italian bike since he is Italian national champ.
He must use whatever his team gives him
licandres01 yes that's obvious, but why didn't they make a custom one for him ? He's a big name at the moment in the sport and is italian champion, so to me he deserves a custom bike. I bet he will get one. Maybe it just wasn't ready for TDU.
Džango yeah he surely will eventualy
#GCNTech love/hate relationship with Specialized. Some of their bikes look great. Others with the pogo stick in the head set really turn me off.
bugboy152000 Haha, yeah I used to ride their diverge, until they added those stupid suspension systems.
DJWolves97 I’ve gone for Canyon now. Aeroad disk. Their bikes are just so clean and streamline. Something about the simplicity I like.
Ducks!
🦆🦆🦆
will change to jones h bar handlebar hahahaa
Shows how much of a disaster the Vias is/was
If it weighs the same as a duck... then it's a witch! Burn it!
Beware of DUCKS!
That bike is Tiny!!!
A 54cm frame isnt small.
That rear wheel is terribly out of balance! Thats gotta be a nightmare to ride at speed!
We don't trust you about the weight. Quit reciting the marketing and show us the facts. ~7.45kg is not 6.92kg.
more bland and boring
Overpriced crap
