Is Oregon a BLUEBLOOD or still only a NEWBLOOD? | Remembering Khyree Jackson

- Oregon got a commitment on July 4 from Duncanville, Texas, receiver Dakorien Moore, who is the highest ranked player to ever commit to the Ducks. He’s the type of player Oregon didn’t typically land before, but the Ducks’ 2025 class might wind up including the top-ranked or second-ranked (or both) player in the country at multiple positions.

1:01:48 Conclusion, Recapping 4th of July Weekend
Justin Hopkins of On3’s Scoop Duck joins Andy to discuss how Oregon has enhanced an already effective roster-building operation under coach Dan Lanning. Andy also wonders if Justin was correct last week when he wrote that Oregon isn’t a blueblood program yet but seems headed there. Andy wonders if the Ducks have possibly already crossed that threshold.
More from Justin Hopkins and ScoopDuck here: www.on3.com/teams/oregon-ducks/
Justin also shares memories of former Oregon and Alabama cornerback Khyree Jackson, the Minnesota Vikings rookie who died in a car crash this past weekend.
Later, Andy builds on that blueblood conversation. How do we define a blueblood? Who are the bluebloods now? And how does a newblood - a program that has enjoyed great recent success but doesn’t have a history of dominance - become a blueblood?

Texas actually had a bigger offer for Dakorien Moore, compared to Oregon, according to Texas insiders. The trend is to blame Oregon for getting a recruit on NIL, but that’s a small factor. It’s always the school, the brand, and the coaches. The money is just the cherry on top of the sundae.
You guys offered him $1.3M. We offered $500k. Cut this lame-duck shit out. Mf hasn't had a first-round receiver since 1978 🤣🤣🦆💥
@@JuiceThaGoat1that’s literally a lie. Texas offered more and is number 1 in the entire nation in NIL spending while Oregon sits at 20th….
Oregon has always recruited like this before NIL
@@JuiceThaGoat1 Dakorien's own mother said Oregon's offer wasn't the highest.
@@glenpark4373 Bro, you cap, please drop a link or something because all Texas insiders are saying Oregon offered more because he was silently committed to us, and all of a sudden, Oregon comes out of nowhere. We all know Oregon has been overpaying, thanks to Uncle Phil. He is trying to see a natty before he kicks the bucket. Hopefully, he will never see his Ducks win anything.
Oregon fan here - Oregon is not a blue blood, and will never be a blue blood by the most traditional definition. In the end it doesn't matter - blue bloods can chronically underperform and their title of "blue blood" will not help them because players/fans care about what is happening now but it doesn't make them lose their title. Similarly, "new bloods" can continually ascend and outperform many/most of the blue bloods over time, and if they maintain that success, they still will never be blue bloods and it really doesn't matter. 18 year old kids don't care about media-voted national championships from when their parent's were kids...
I’ve been a diehard Oregon fan since the 80s…there’s no way we’re a blue blood, but just being in this conversation is crazy to me! Never thought I’d see the day. I think a blue blood needs multiple natty’s, consistently relevant for 50 straight years (Oregon is at 30 years) and having the brand. Oregon can’t be a blue blood until 2045 at the earliest. I also think that this will be more easily defined with the new playoff structure and number of appearances teams make. Also, everything J-Hop said is 100% accurate
I’m just so happy that the conversation has started, I remember watching the Ducks 30 years ago and couldn’t possibly imagine the heights they’ve currently reached. It’s so amazing just to be in the upper echelon, given the difficulty that’s inherent to being so far away from these ultra elite prospects home states.
@@andrewmohrmann3599 exactly…just hope it can be sustained for another 30+ years. We’ve weathered a lot of coaching changes and adversity so far though
I halfway agree with you. Let's say DL stays at Oregon for 10 more years. They win 4-5 big 10 champs, make the playoffs 6-7 times and win 2 NC, maybe play in another 1 or 2 and lose em in that time frame then I Definitely think they're in blueblood status at that point
@@chrismobley6339 I think that’d be defined as a dynasty by most…I think blue blood status would still be a tough sell to the college football nation. It’d be a good debate though
I think that a blue blood is the teams that constantly gets the best recruits every year.
Oregon definitely had the best roster the last two years in the pac12, but Lanning was also flipping 62 players from Cristobal’s roster he left in his first two offseasons. Now Oregon has 98% of Lanning’s own players, and they say that it takes 3-5yrs to build a program, so Lanning is heading into that time span.
If Texas isn’t even a blue blood, then Oregon certainly isn’t. 😂😂😂
Love the show Andy, love my Ducks and the breakdown!
I am a duck fan and I would say we are still a new blood until we win at least two national chips.

@@tarheeledsooner3920 4 or 5 in 100 years or currently

We keep saying Oregon had the most talented team in the PAC-12 last year. Can we stop looking at high school rankings for once and look at the NFL Draft. Washington had the most draft picks and 7 drafted in the first 2 days. Washington was the most talented team in the PAC-12 and Michigan was the most talented in the B10
Can we look at Michigan's schedule lol... They play two good teams a year and were losing them consistently before the cheating scandal broke. Oregon had to play Washington twice and would've won if they hit a field goal. Colorado was better than more than half the big 10 ask Nebraska.

Why is this video even monetized?
We’ll take new blood for now lol
Andy, this is a very thoughtful discussion. Duck fan, but agree not a “blue blood” yet. Gotta have one national championship to get into the discussion and two to put it to rest. Lanning is just getting started. 2027 will be time to talk again about Oregon’s status.
Oregon fan base and the media is so unrealistic of what Oregon football is. They have Zero National championships, 1 Heisman winner. They have close to no historical value to college football.
They are one of the most winningest program the last 15 years 1 heisman, 2 championships apperance and like 7-8 ny6 bowl wins. I think theyre new blood
@@XxBonzeD4Kill4xX new blood isn’t even a thing. Its term that was just created to make you feel better about the program. You’re a blue blood or your not. Once again even if they win 1 Natty their still not in
So Nebraska is a better program than Oregon because they won natties voted on by a bunch of journalists?
@@RadicallyOptimistic nebraska is a bum team nowadays lmao
It's delusional to think that most Oregon fans think that Oregon is a blue blood. The media will say anything for clicks.
To be a blueblood you at least have to have national championships. Not to mention being consistently at the top of the sport for multiple decades. They aren't even close to being a blueblood
A blue blood, Oregon, man please, Dan has done nothing that Mario hasn't done already. He's noth recruiting Phil its with his money, Mario was the same way, that's why they're recruiting is the same. Money and Phil is what makes Oregon recruiting great. Other than that these guys lack the hardware, sorry,
You can't just be a blue blood. The time to claim blue blood status has long passed Oregon
👆 🦆 🔥
Oregon is not a blue blood but it has nothing to do with championships. Average final rankings matter much more than championships. Auburn won a title in the 08-14 time span, Oregon did not. Who was the better program in that span?
Dwyer was down.
What has Oregon won first off, ever and second how long have they been winning at an elite level? The answer to those two questions answers the primary one. No way are they a blue blood and that is no disrespect on their program but if the qualifications to be a blue blood is met with a school with as little of success that Oregon has had then a team like Clemson, who has won more and more significantly wins would be an automatic shoe in. They are recruiting great and Lanning looks to have the program humming but that should have little impact on whether a,school is a blue blood or not. Oregon has a long ways to go and a lot of years to perform at a high level and winning meaningful games, Lanning lost his two toughest games last year and didn’t even win the PAC but now we are talking about them being a blue blood? Andy you’re better than that. Love ya to death but come on. If all it takes is a couple of good recruiting classes to become a blue blood then the term blue blood wouldn’t be used by the greatest college programs of all time. Silly to even have this discussion. Clemson deserves the conversation way before Oregon and once again, what has Oregon won? How many playoffs have they been to? How ,any playoff games have they won? How many NC’s have they won? I mean you (ave to do all of those things and do them for years before being considered a blue blood. Blue Blood is a term that defines college footballs OG’s and the “ all time” great programs. Not some new kid on the block who has never won anything. Strange take Andy and someone who seems to appreciate the heart and soul of college football and its history this seems to be an odd choice of topics. Sure they are recruiting well and have but that can’t constitute becoming a blue blood. Even winning 1 NC wouldn’t give them a blue blood status.
What's that trophy case look like in Oregon?? Asking for a friend
I saw Oregons O in Saskatchewan SK in 2007, and even if they didn’t have an Oregon hat or shirt…people constantly stopped me because Oregons O is so well known, and the brand is too…and it’s international. Heck, we’ve got Duck fans in France that have never been to the USA to watch a game. So it’s global for sure. Especially with the track program.
How many national championships does Oregon have? That would be a no!!
They are blowing offers out of the water. Please tell the truth.
NFL draft says Washington had the best team the last 2 years
You know, after thinking about this for a few hours…I think you become a blue blood when the rest of the country hates your guts…Oregon isn’t there yet, but getting closer lol
Nebraska is absolutely still a blue blood. The consumption of information and social media has sped time up and shortened people’s memory. If you were living in the late 80’s and said “it’s been 15 years since Nebraska has won a championship, they’re out of blue blood status” you’d be laughed at. Then of course they dominated the 90’s.
New
0 nattys, 1 heisman. They aren’t even Newbloods. They are honestly as historic as South Carolina.
When you cherrypick yeah. How about final rankings? Final FPI and SP+ compared to Carolina?
@@RadicallyOptimistic Oregon plays a weaker schedule than South Carolina every year.

Its obvious that Oregon, Ohio State and Michigan will be the top teams in the BIG10, Alabama, Georgia and Auburn/LSU will be the top dogs from the SEC, Miami and FSU from the ACC and the BIG 12 will have UTAH represent. Texas and OU will be mid of the pack in the SEC. I can easily see a top 4 in college football of Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Ohio State battling for chips for the next 6 to 10 years.
And then you woke up
@@Jmcsanz Follow the money and the recruiting. Those are the top schools. They will dominate.
@@dariusp257 Oklahoma and Texas had more athletic revenue than everyone you mentioned outside of Ohio state. If I were to follow the money those teams wouldn’t be there. It’ll be OSU, Michigan for sure, but Oregon will struggle just as USC and Washington will. They have to play teams with defense now. The SEC comment was funny considering you said Auburn who is in a rebuild and LSU who is currently trying to locate their defense. Better off saying ole Miss atp considering they have recruited better and paid in cash lol.
Oregon has played Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc. They have beaten them all at least once the last 10 years. Wisconsin who is one of the best defensive teams in the BIG10 has lost to Oregon 3 straight. Oregon beat them in 2019 and 2011 to win the Rose Bowl. Oregon has lost to Ohio State consistently except for the last game. Oregon blew out Michigan and beat Michigan State in Eugene. All in the last 10 years. Oregon can hang with any of the teams in the BIG10. The only team that will be a match is Ohio State. Michigan was strong last year but they have been weak for the majority of the last 10 years. Oregon recruits much better than Michigan and will surpass them. Penn State will be ok but they won't be at the top. Texas and Oklahoma are in a tough league and it will be very hard for them to end the year in the top two consistently to be able to make the playoffs.
@@Jmcsanz Quick question. Is the BIG 10 good on defense or are they really bad on offense and that props up their defensive numbers. Only Ohio State and Michigan has made the top 25 on offense consistently the last 5 years. Could it be that the reason the defenses for Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State seem to be strong is because their offenses are so bad, they don't score much and when they play teams with good offenses like Ohio State and Michigan they consistently lose to them. How many 7-3 games have you seen between Ohio State and Iowa?
Ask yourself has the recruiting slow down between Dan and Mario, no, because they both benefited from money but couldn't win a title!!!
To me and all college football until Oregon wins a national championship. This university will only be known as a university that buys uniforms and buys its way through recruiting. It has yet proved that money can buy championships with our good coaching. It means nothing to college football to own brought recruiting titles and no hardware. What it tells me is Oregon can hire anyone and and never worry about getting recruits. Hell you could hire Donald duck and hell Phil Knight will spend money to get them there. Has that worked out, no, because you have to be able to coach that talent and Oregon is a blue blood only in name and money
One thing I was thinking the other day, they're lucky Oregon/NIKE wasn't born is SEC country. Imagine if Phil Knight had oil money friends like Texas or a school like Tennessee or whatever SEC school u want to pick with a bunch of rich donors but barely produce lol.
I think you are underestimating how much the branding of Oregon helps more than straight up money. There is no way that Oregon would have the success they have with just money. It's certainly a part of the success, but there are plenty of schools that have more money than Oregon that haven't done as well in the last 25 years.
@@zoam7881 I think you mean underestimating the Nike Brand. Oregon honestly didn’t get popular until DeAnthony Thomas which is like 2011 era
@@mcahtme2977 Call it what you want. The facility upgrades and winning seasons started before 2007.
New money, but it still spends.
-Oregon has the 9th most wins over the last decade.
- Oregon only has 4! Championship Conference titles 4! 8 over last 25 years and ZERO NC’s, EVER
- #50 in all time wins
- according to On3 Oregon has an average recruiting ranking of 15th over last decade.
And this is a serious conversation whether or not Oregon is a blue blood or even a “new blood “ for that matter?
Laughable, sorry
There are other teams who have been much more successful over those same time periods that are not considered blue bloods or in a conversation for a so called “ new blood “. If they aren’t in the conversation then no freaking way Oregon should be. Simply ridiculous.
Again, Shouldn’t even be a serious conversation.
I love Lanning and he has them humming on recruiting trail but he hasn’t even won anything significant yet.
let’s cool our jets, as my grandma used to say and find something serious to discuss. Possibly? Did get me to comment so there is that;0)
It is 💯 fair to ask, “What has Oregon won?” No Natty. That’s fair. But it’s also fair to say they’ve been relevant for the last bit. Dan Lanning and the Ducks are recruiting at a level the program has never seen before. I’m a Duck fan and looking forward to the season. Let’s see. And LET’S GO DUCKS!!!
Newblood. You cannot become a Blueblood without several decades of sustained excellence. In fact, you really need several generations of sustained excellence. Oregon has been a good program for about 30 years. If they do it for another 60 or so, we can revisit the discussion.
When Oregon wins 5 natties they’ll b considered lol, blue bloods lmfao
😂😂😂 What a joke! Takes more than one NC to be a blue blood. Justin is so desperate. Keep trying Justin.
Oregon is not a blue blood. How many national championships do they have? ZERO. I would stay 2 for sure, probably 3 needed for consideration.
When was the last time Nebraska won the Big Ten? 99 if not mistaken? Sorry but your WRONG
@@DJA3021 ummm Nebraska was in the Big-12 at that time.
If Dan lanning would of left for bama than no one would consider Oregon one the media just likes to hype him up
@@DJA3021 Not sure what that has to do with the point. Nebraska is a historic blue blood. 46 conference championships, 5 national championships. Has Oregon been better than Nebraska the past 20 years? Absolutely (although they did split the 2 games they played during that stretch).
As a Duck fan, I don’t disagree
That’s the dumbest header I’ve ever seen. You need championships to be considered a blue blood program. More than a couple. Clemson isn’t even a blue blood program yet. They’re close but not quite there. They need to be a top 15 program or close to it over the next decade and win a championship to do so. Oregon something special happening but they’re just throwing money around right now. They’re a recruiting powerhouse house right now nothing more nothing less. Ask me that in 2 decades.
Oregon out pays Ohio State and Texas for the nations best WR. This guy “Oregon isn’t out here out buying everybody”. Of course recruiting still matters. But here all things were even except the money. Also Oregon does have more money than everybody. Nike is worth way more than Ohio State and Texas . The Nike company is worth 100 billion atleast
Don’t mistake me pointing out facts as crying. I’m not mad at Oregon at all!! They are playing within the rules. But stop acting like it’s not what it is 😂😂.
@@conqueror571You're using nothing to back your opinion. According to most reports, Texas is #1 in NIL and Oregon is #20... So how is Oregon just out paying everyone else? Dakoriens own mom told Texas insiders that Oregons 'money' offer wasn't more than everyone else's.
new blood but it my 23 years of living you could say blueblood just no nattys since 2000 only 3 losing seasons. multiple 10 win seasons. multiple bowl wins. and during the bcs era we’d finish top 10 majority of those years. oregon is objectively better than 85% of other programs since 2000
