Hey DT ! Great video ! You guys hit on all great points ! the only thing I would have added was riding with your lights on, it's so much easier to see a machine coming. I couldn't agree more with "Staying on the trail" we have had a few trails closed down b/c people didn't stay on the trails and wanted to rip through a blueberry or farmers field.... and I agree 100% with the mud holes, if they are ON the trail then it's fair game but guys who drive into Rivers, Lakes, ponds, Skeg.... that's habitat for animals & fish and you may think you're just having fun but it's ripping up the land.... Thanks for making this, I'm going to share it on my FB & IG.

Great job! Awesome to see a video promoting helmets, leave no trace and not drinking alcohol, etc. Even more awesome to see a media outlet stand up for what is right instead of worrying about offending someone. Dirt Trax just went to the top of my favorites list!

So many good points here. In our club we have many people aware of pending issues and still come out for a ride, then 30 min into a 6-8hr day we have to tow them back or call for a trailer. And we're happy to help, but people, when you know your tires have 100 cracks in them, BUY NEW ONES!!!
For your safety, and others, stay home and do your repairs/maintenance. Then come out for fun

Excellent job Luke, I'm sharing this. I'll apologize in advance, but I have to rant about something for a minute. I absolutely love ATVing, and promote it to anyone that will listen, but LOUD MUFFLERS, are one of the single biggest detriments for this community to gain acceptance from the public. Most ATVers I know and ride with can't stand them either, let alone the public. The people that use them are often hammering the throttle at the worst possible time, and locations. A few years ago, I lived in a community where the same two people, with painfully loud sport quads, would often fly down a trail very close to a subdivision. People complained to the municipality about it often. When town councillors hear these complaints all they hear is "LOUD ATV's" and they think ALL ATV's, and ALL ATV riders are the same.

I agree with all items accept 1... mud riding and the reason is exactly what you stated. Far too many trails are closed because of people looking for mud to ride in and going off trail to find it... sometimes that ends up in farmer crop land with the crops planted at the time.
If you have your own property that you want to destroy then by all means do so but not other peoples please.
One other item you didnt mention was loud exhausts and I believe thats because your channel actually promotes them... keep the machines quite and you go unnoticed on the trail far more and land owners wont complain about the noise and oh yeah they wont close the trails
    Hmmm

Old video but feel this is worth noting.
Here in NS, Safety courses are "required". However, 4 years into trying to take it and I still haven't been able to take it. At this point, I do up to 5000km per year and likely don't need it.
But this year we've had a handful of deaths. This needs to be better managed. Right now Joe blow gets licensed to train. Then he goes on vacation to Florida for 6-8 months per year. So someone else gets licensed, they've done 2 in 1 year and did the 10 hr course on Halloween, you know, the day your rushing home from work to scarf down dinner in time to take the kids out.
Lastly, despite emailing as asked to get notified for the next session, I've never been notified.
It may sound uncool, but people need to know safety techniques before they hop on their very first ATV ride and it's a 1000cc

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  2 года назад +1

System seems inefficient and needs some fine tuning. Safety course could benefit a lot of riders.

Love It. When I go riding(like I did this past weekend) I was surprised at how intuitive these topics and tips are to my group of riders. We are a small select group that have hit the trails together for years because we share these values. We struggle when new to us riders join us and do not follow these guidelines.
I would also add as a Safety tip: To Ride in Groups when possible. It is safer in case of major failure or accident. Especially when communication is spotty like it is is here closer to the mountains. It is also nice to spread the load. I do not always carry a pump or a saw... but somebody in the group does. We plan ahead and have that pre-ride check list as a group.

I have one for the SxS guys specifically. If a trail says 50" maximum, or it's clearly not wide enough for a UTV, don't take your machine there. There's plenty of trails made for for full size machines, so stay off the ones that aren't. That goes for people who take ATVs on designated single track dirt bike trails too, although I don't see that nearly as often.

Good advice agree 100% . I live in Maine and there has been alot of trails and access roads getting closed down because of the few careless and disrespectful riders. Most riders are respectful and love the sport of riding but it's the few bad ones that make us all look bad. Just be respectful follow the rules use common sense and enjoy the trails

The helmet law just changed in Quebec. The helmet is not mandatory anymore if you have a COMPLETELY CLOSED CAB like a Defender Limited. Sure it is recommended tho. It is base on the idea that these SSV are like small pick up trucks.

    Agree with this video 100%.
Since the overwhelmingly amount of OHV sales since the lockdowns last year. The trails are seeing more and more rookie riders, that have never took up off-roading until last year's mandated quarantine. We have a couple trails (just like Luke mentioned) that once was a nice trail, now has within 1 year gone from a few mud holes to now an acre of mud holes. And the reason because people trying to go around the mud holes, but then someone with tractor tires on the trails dig out the mud holes deeper, causing people who have UTVs not built for the mud (like myself) have to cut through the woods to find another way around. And then someone comes in an digs out that mud hole, and so on and so on. Tractor or aggressive tires are supposed to be illegal in the National Forest.
I have shared this video with most of my Facebook UTV Groups.

Great video - rules are rules and we all have had a 5 minute safety brief at work, group riders should do the same and no-one is exempt from rider safety or trail rules unless you are one of the one who don't care, which brings a bad name to all riders. Think of others and if you get banned or ticketed, hospitalized or have to take life's last ride - was it worth it. Cheers DT crew and keep them coming.

When it comes to mud holes and saying if you're machine can't handle the mud holes stay off the trail. How about tell people not to dog trails up. There is trails around my area that have been so good you could drive a car down. In the past 5 years, some of these trails have gotten so bad, you can barely walk them. Trail degradation is a HUGE problem and just because there's a "mud hole" doesn't mean you should play in it.
