I played against Ray when he was in highschool at the Shaw Air Force Base gym in the early 90's. I saw him win the state championship. He was UNBELIEVABLE! If you've never played against an NBA hof'er...they're different. They're unstoppable.

I remember watching that game on ESPN! UConn was very aggressive that game because A.I cooked them the game prior and Georgetown still could've won had they called a timeout to set up a play, the game was so intense, win or lose they played it out! This game was EPIC, I was rooting for Georgetown to win a national championship that year, but they lost in the Big Dance and A.I among others entered the NBA Draft that year, Great class by the way!👍👍

Jesus Shuttlesworth...one of the best jumpers in the game. Iverson too much a ball hawk; his teammates just background pieces. I saw this on tv; one of the best games ever. That Ray Allen jump shot is legend so was his future one with the Heat...tie breaking 3 pter. Best jump shot form ever; since Dale Ellis.

as a hoya fan during this time, this loss really stung and watching these highlights now, i believe ray allen's game winner was foreshadowed in the first half.
ray allen had exquisite footwork that allowed him to set up one of the most devastating jump shots ever seen on a court. starting @4:46, iverson picks up allen. allen understands he's not going to beat iverson to the rim. iverson, despite gambling all over the place (ugh), would be able to recover quickly enough to challenge allen at the rim. instead iverson overplays allen's right (poor defensive positioning) and allen moves laterally from right to left to hit an incredibly difficult shot while being fouled by iverson (punctuated by iverson's frustration).
now watch the game winning shot starting @7:11. once again, iverson picks up allen off the switch and again, allen moves laterally (this time from left to right) against iverson. the one difference here - iverson gives allen space on this shot versus the prior jumper where iverson fouls allen. allen does hit a crazy jumper for the win. but i really believe iverson's defense here was influenced by the prior foul.
allen's superior lateral movement negated iverson's superior athleticism. if you never saw iverson live in college (i saw him live 3 times), it's easy to forget that he was clearly the best athlete every time he was on the floor. allen was able to neutralize iverson's athletic prowess with his prodigious skill set.
anyway, hell of a game and one of the great battles of the big east.
