Fritz is just too one dimensional at times. Musetti was able to drag him into positions on the court with his slice that he was just not comfortable with.

Musetti used the drop shot and backhand slice so well getting Fritz moving north to south and laterally. If Fritz was athletic as Tommy Paul he'd be top 5. In the modern game movement is the critical factor. Everyone has big enough serves and forehands for the most part

Yes, Djokovic has done well to recover from the knee surgery and compete again so soon - but he’s also had the luck of a dream draw. It looks like he’s going to reach the final playing no one seeded higher than 15. The one top ten seed he would’ve faced didn’t even take to the court. It’s all fallen very kindly for him.

    • @olgadottir1528

So true, but people nowadays are so lazy to check the facts that they would rather call him a ''superhuman and a superhero'', it's less time consuming. Djokovic played No 123, No 277, No 47 gave him some hard time. Rune is not what he used to be for some time, de Minaur walkower....even Hurkacz, who would have been probably the toughest to beat in Djokovic's amazing draw, got injured and is out... Poor Jannik who withdrew because of exhaustion, he's far from a superhuman, right?

Hi guys thanks as always for the update on yesterday at Wimbledon. I appreciate that you're always going to support American players, and so you should but Taylor Fritz is never going to amount to anything in the Slams unless he learns how to change a losing game. His movement is just terrible, surely that can be worked on? He just kept on slugging away from the baseline, refusing to mix it up and try something different. Musetti did adapt and played a great match especially in the 5th. Well done Lorenzo who by the way is hardly a veteran at 22.😊

Guys, I see it differently with Musetti. I expected Perricard to destroy Musetti, especially after the way Perricard took out Shelton in Queens. Musetti is playing his best tennis right now. His win over Fritz was tactically brilliant and patient. His serve is not powerful, but he has hit his spots consistently during this tournament. He has the memory of taking Djokovic out in Monte Carlo. I believe he could extend it to the 5-set format. He sounded confident at postmatch interview and Novak hasn't had a real opponent yet in this tournament. Rune played way below his level. Novak will be running in this match. I might sound crazy but I say Musetti in 4!

I’m surprised (or not?) that Andy was okay dissing Novak for having walked out of that God awful BBC interview. What would he have done if someone kept grinding his gears by asking the same qn’s over and over again? Genuine qn, not rhetorical. Novak already answered the first two qns quite respectfully l, might I add. Clearly, it didn’t elicit the response the interviewer was after so he pressed further in my opinion.

A small but loud number of tennis ‘fans’ have long heckled Novak. If you haven’t seen and heard this, you haven’t been paying attention. For instance, even in the broadcast of the 2015 US Open Final, you can hear hecklers cheering Djokovic’s faults and making distracting noise while Novak is serving. For 17 years now, ever since he could beat Roger or Rafa, Novak has been heckled and very rarely had the crowd behind him.
On Center Court on Monday, as some fans yell “Rune”, hecklers scream ‘Boo’ right at Djokovic.
Go listen to John McEnroe, who experienced similar vitriol. He was proud of Novak for standing up for himself. And Nole only left the BBC interview after being asked the same question at least 3 times. He had every right to leave.

I don’t agree with Andy. Big moments often count more than big numbers. Margaret Court may have 24 GS, Serena Williams may have 23, and Steffi Graf has a couple less at 22, but she is the ultimate queen of the court 👸 in my books with her 1988 Golden Slam. She has accomplished something almost impossible to do which no other human in the history of the sport has ever achieved and may never again. Even if she had 10 slams less than Court and Williams, her Golden Slam puts her on a plane with no other.

Despite being a die hard Steffi fan I would say if she retired with 12 or 13 slams with golden slam then she wouldn't be in a GOAT debate. The reason Steffi is in a GOAT debate (I put Steffi at #1 ahead of Martina) because of her 22 slams tally with golden slam plus her quadruple slams. She also had most weeks #1, most year end #1. But the most impressive stats of Steffi is her versality. She can dominate on all surface. She has atleast 6 slams on each surface but we hardly talked about it much.

Re the Fritz loss - it seemed to me that the Musetti slice particularly hurt Fritz because it drew Fritz forward of the baseline but stayed low and Fritz was not able to attack it and finish at net. When he tried, it seemed that his volleys often sat up and Musetti came in and passed. Sometime after coming forward to his the slice he then tried to retreat back to the baseline and was sometimes caught in a defensive position if the next ball came back deep.(I recall Fed using a similar tactic to Musetti with his short slice).
Thoughts on whether this is an ongoing issue for Fritz and whether he needs to improve his net game to deal with this issue???

I hoped, that this year WTA/ATP/ITF, would stop this nonsense of mixing sport with politics.
Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth.
Appointing "flag police" at tennis tournaments is not even childish... it is embarrassing and insane...
Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen.
Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag?
USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq.
Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them.
Interestingly enough Israeli tennis players Mika Buchnik and Guy Sasson are allowed to play under the national flag in AO 2024 despite the policy of their government towards Palestinians in Gaza.
    ***
All wars are equal, but some wars are more equal than others.
Why this Medvedev's win is presented as some kind of upset?
After all he is a former number 1 player in the world.
Grand Slam administrators, sponsors, Western media and even... highlight editors can't stomach the idea that Russian players are still participating in their events let alone winning them.

Can't help but feel that Novak got lucky this tournament though. The draw was incredibly, incredibly easy for him. Instead of playing seven matches, he gets to play six, one less match to win the title. Add to that, 4 of his six opponents have been either players much further down the rankings who have no experience on the tour, or, even worse, players with absolutely no form at all. Let's be honest. Rune played like utter crap in that match.
Contrast that with Alcaraz's or Sinner's draw, and you can't say that Novak didn't get it easy this tournament. In fact, he gets it easy in most tournaments. He usually doesn't play a quality opponent until at the very least the fourth round, and here, he doesn't get anything approaching quality until the semis. So of course. It's not hard to win a title when you've got two quality matches standing in your way.
As for Novak's behavior of late, including that stunt he pulled after the Rune match and then walking out of the interview, I am disturbed that so many people actually think that sort of behavior is okay. I have to disagree here. Yes, perhaps repeated questions about what he did would be annoying. I get that. However, if you don't want questions like this, don't do things like that.
Djokovic constantly wonders why he's "not as loved" as Rafa and Roger. Can you in a million years ever see Rafa or Roger pulling a stunt like what Novak pulled on center court on Monday? Even if fans had booed them, they would have simply spoken about the match. In fact, I've seen Rafa address a hostile crowd before, going so far as to apologize for beating their favorite and saying the atmosphere was amazing, even though he wasn't the favorite in the match. Novak could take a lesson from that.
The thing is, I don't think anyone was booing him. And here's the thing. Even if they were, they have the right to root for Rune if they want to. If they want to boo, that's also their right. You can't tell me that Djokovic has never faced a hostile crowd (perceived or real) in his career. This wasn't the first time he hasn't been the favorite in a match.
Quite frankly, Novak's attitude of late is a real turn-off. You know, like waving his arms around, gesticulating at his box, even when he's winning in a match, as if, despite being up a set and a break, he's still pissed off. And what for? If you're in a winning position, and you're still acting that way, I can't help but feel you're acting childish. So sure. Do I think it's annoying for him to get questions? Yeah. That said, perhaps he should reflect on his own attitude and behavior as well.
It doesn't seem like he's really enjoying tennis anymore. If you're not happy during your match, even in a winning position, then perhaps that means your love for the game is just gone. If that's the case, perhaps he should just hang up his racket and retire. No sense stressing yourself out and taking out your frustration on everyone.

It is dishonest to trivialize the way Djoker creates ' ftictiin' to motivate himself. Playing ugly (rages, sneering, self-pity, racket smashing, et sl) is a bummer. It alienated fans & earns him boos. A mature champion should have more poise & thicker skin dealing w/ hecklers. Davis Cup, basketball, baseball & soccer are known for passionate fans. That is the deal in sports ! Djoker is Obnoxious & Sour. Yuck. His off court 'charm' offendives can't erase his unsportsmanlike behavior!

I've followed every episode of this podcast/series and this is objectively the worst episode of them all. Just the level of bias towards Fritz and the dismissal of Musetti is appalling. And then to go on and say 11 people in the crowd were chanting "Ruuune" Is just stupid. If they were such big Rune fans why the hell didn't they chant that in his previous matches? I'm not even a Novak or Musetti fan. This is just being rational.

That being said I'm sure the players get schooled by the promoters to do all the extra drama shit to improve ratings. It's done all over TV nowadays. I look at it as WWE schtick. Somebody's the good guy and somebody's the heel. And Novak Djokovic is often portrayed as the heel. I always liked the heels cause they could be more genuine and give off the fk you I don't give a fk attitude. Jimmy Conners had that vibe but Mac to me was a spoiled brat till he grew up. His you cannot be serious schtick was pretty lame to a lotta guys.

We hate to pronounce anything except by the way it would sound in our American version of English. Today the girl in the coffee shop had a Mexican league baseball jersey on. And she said it's the Tomadadores in a Mexican Spanish accent. I repeated it back in a typical American accent like that's the way you're supposed to say it. Us Americans are right even when we're wrong. ROFL like wise guys from Donnie Brasco.😂😢

A Swiss journalist is entertaining the possibility that Novak didn't actually have the arthroscopic knee meniscotomy surgery, but rather, it was all a bluff - giving an example how Fed's career went South after his surgery.
Don't know, but sure would like to see his knee without the support he is wearing :)

Djokovics PR manager must have been in overdrive, to make him do this Interview. Doesn't change the fact that he acted like an asshole 2 days ago and certainly won't change the fact, that 90% of the crowd will be rooting against him on Friday (and probably "boo" him for real this time).
I respect Djokovics game, mental strength and achievements on court, but that's about it.
