    Mr. Roddick, I don't think Alcaraz is so scared for the backhand - be that to use it himself because he has improved his backhand to be a weapon and has a good slice. To focus on one side would be a losing tactic for Djokovic (which he surely knows himself) since it will become too predictable.

    Not something Wimbledon-specific, but in a future podcast I'd love to hear Andy talk about his perspective of his 2003 summer, from Queens to the US Open. He was still young and perhaps viewed more as a "really good young guy, soon-future top player" than a favorite at majors going into the summer. Maybe kind of like Sinner throughout 2022-23 until Sinner just started winning a ton. Then winning Queens, Indianapolis, 2 Masters Series and the US Open in the span of a few months must have been wild. Did he feel invincible? Did it all go too fast for him to process his sudden string of wins? Did he feel like the favorite going into the US Open? Did he feel caught off guard by the tough Cincinnati final against Fish or the US Open semi against Nalbandian? Just a lot of questions and I'd love to hear him talk a bit about how it was for him to go on that ride.

    Quick question..what are Wertheim's credentials to analyze these big matches?? LOVE Andy Roddick and everyone knows his credentials....it shows with every show Andy' comments on...cannot say the same about Wertheim who too often feels his commentary is equal to a former #1 tennis champion..

    • @sf-ou2fc
      @sf-ou2fc 3 месяца назад +8

      Can't really agree on that. I feel Jon Wertheim is a perfect foil for Andy, respects the fact that Andy has been there, done that, etc. Jon seems to know his place in the scheme of things and adds value with his greater knowledge of what's happening in terms of stats, who's done what this year. I've come to think of him as an excellent journalist based on this channel alone. And I guess that if he's here, it's because Andy Roddick thinks so too. And as you say, Andy Roddick's credentials make him an excellent judge.

    • @edkiely2712
      @edkiely2712 3 месяца назад +2

And as for the next gen guys, here are the guys who were considered future champions and almost all of them begin their rivalry with a lead until 2:0 - 2:1; M. Raonic 0:12, D. Thiem 5:7, A. 34:20 "Novak has won more matches in majors ... significantly more than Dominic Thiem has won matches total in his career"
    And Dominic Thiem was one of the best player in his tennnis generation.
    That just shows how relatively DISMAL the competition of Thiems generation is and was.
    Today these players are roughly between 28 and 32 years old, like: Medvedev, Jarry, Kachanov, Thompson, Norrie, Ofner, Giron, Djere, Sonego, Beretini, Eubanks, Kokkinakis, Coria, Koepfer ...
    Only 3 of them are currently in the top 40. wow
    That is the real reason why and Federer and Nadal and Djokovic extended their tennis career up to their late 30.
    And between them; Djokovic exploit that the most.

    Has anyone asked Novak if his knee was bothering him throughout the year, he was not extending rallies all year, and perhaps it was not lack of motivation, or getting old, but just a problem in his knee that did not fully manifest itself until the French Open when it finally tore.
    Carlito looks like a force of nature, so people think he's unbeatable, but Novak knows how to deal with him.

    I think Alcaraz will beat Djokovic... BUT I hope Djokovic beats Alcaraz. I want to see Djokovic win #25, breaking Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slam wins, set in 1975, a 49 year old record. A Djokovic win would also tie Federer's 8 Wimbledon wins. My odds are 60% Alcaraz, 40% Djokovic to win. Novak's movement hasn't really been tested and Alcaraz's drop shot is brilliant and will force Novak to run. Alcaraz is a phenom. He will have plenty of time to break Djokovic's all time major record. Many of us just want Djokovic to get over the finish line. To be fair, Novak could've already had more than 25 major wins, if he controlled his temper, resulting in disqualification at the 2020 US Open and if he were vaccinated. With Djokovic's brand of genius, however, we must accept the complete person, warts and all.

    This analysis is completely lacking form of the year, the results during the tournament etc. Solely focussed on a generic take on Alcaraz and Djokovic qualities but not set in the context of the now. Would have expected to hear more about e.g. what Djokovic' level actually is right now and the same for Alcaraz and how that turns out. Because based on overall timeless qualities it is a coin flip. But surely the current standings must be a factor? E.g. Djokovic didn't record a top 10 win this year, it is his first final (after not having to play the quarters and not even close having to play a top 10 calibre player with serious weapons) - the point is, it is hard to asses what his current level actually is. Also, there is the context of the knee and as another commenter asked: was this a reason for using even more dropshots in the semi's? How will that tactic work against Carlos? In short: there was no analysis that is actually insightful for todays context.

    Novak will win in 4 sets because he's fresher, has played 4 hours less and has far more experience as the G.O.A.T with zero pressure. His knees are fully healed so it's not going to be a factor. Alcaraz can only win in five sets if he plays at his absolute best which we haven't seen all through the tournament. Unlikely for him to produce it in the finals. Novak loves to beat these younger guys. Novak is still playing because of his desire to play Alcaraz and these younger generation. Novak brings his best against Alcaraz and Sinner always. Novak will not lose to Carlitos. Carlos has to beat him and that is a very tough order. Lastly, Novak wants to shut everyone up for a while about singing about beautiful and smiling King Carlos. He will spoil the story line that all the reporters want to write.

      I have no idea who is going to win. Novak bringing his best obviously doesn’t guarantee a win with either. And the 4 hrs difference? At 16 yrs younger I doubt that is a problem. Carlos has to beat him? Duh!

      You are trying to convince yourself but not others. Being fresher is not a factor (for Alcaraz) and even doubtful with the knee and lack of match play. Novak has no pressure? It could be his last GS final and last chance (probably) to win Wimbledon. Whereas Carlos has 3 grand slams in the pocket and expected to have a whole career in front of him. There is pressure for them both since it is a final. They both can handle that well (obviously).

      @KCNwokeye. Your explanation didn’t quite pan out. Carlos not only beat him but did it in short order. I thought this could happen, but I certainly didn’t know.

    I know that I would like to see Alcaraz to win this one. Djokovic will try to win of course, but I’m hoping that Carlos can run him all over the court, to expose his movement because he hasn’t been really tested. Im not watching the final, because I don’t want to hear Djokovic pretend story about wanting to win Wimbledon as a child.

    Yes this is Novak's first finals of the year, thanks to the luck of draw and a pass at quarters.. a reminder that he isnt that good anymore and his opponents being scared of him. He is very beatable! He has.no weapons but playing defensive all the time!!
    This finals is in Carlitos hands. If he makes more errors he will lose!
