during ace and garps conversation all ace had to do was tell garp that he wants to live or be saved thats it and garp would have taken the whole navy head on though he wouldnt have won but still
so garp did what little he could during this scene

It would not end well if that was a real punch from Garp, considering the latest manga chapters. Garp did not even do anything significant yet during this arc.
