- With so many commuters weary of mass transit in the wake of COVID-19, millions of Americans are commuting by car. That means a lot of drivers are flocking to repair shops for basic services like an oil change. But are you getting what you pay for? And what precautions are they taking in the age of coronavirus? Inside Edition rigged an SUV with hidden cameras inside the car, under the car and under the hood. We also placed a sticker on the oil filter to see if it was actually changed. #InsideEdition
Sucks that Lisa Guerrero wasn’t the one doing this... She’s really good confronting people... lol

Nicholas Genzman she dose go on inside she did it recently but I heard she retired but comes on occasionally
2.16 I ONLY USE FRAM OIL FILTERS SIR
JUNK FILTERS THAT RUST OUT AFTER 1000 MILES
Yep
Lisa is dead
I've been a mechanic for 20 years and got fired for not lying to customers at many shops.
Lol they chose the dirtbag dishonest biker gang tech over me today.
Wow. Good on you tho. You have my respect.
You should open your own shop
Give us the name of the shops to stay away from those
“Used their hands on the steering wheel” that’s how cars work

If you have a drive way, it's so easy to repair your own car and sometimes if you really know what you're doing, it's faster. Plus it's way cheaper and you actually know what's happening
not everybody is a mechanic, a woman for instance doesn't know how to change a tire
@@TheGamingChad. ok so they should learn

Inside edition: Time to put more companys out of business
They deserve it when all they do is rip you off
Good im glad I hope they go out of business for scamming us
Their labor cost is more than the cost of my clunker.. who cares..
@@victorotero3157 the last company at least refunded and that guy did look honest in what he was saying

you do realize that person could be infected and sneeze all over the damn steering wheel.
@@epidemic1207 you do realize that could happen regardless of covid?
3bood so true lol
@@epidemic1207 you know you can change your own oil if you're so scared?
Inside edition is just a big joke
Imagine you pay them to change your oil and you come back and your car is LS swapped
Ikr my dad just did it himself
i am more of a 2JZ swapped
Good thing my dad is teaching me all about cars and construction so I could know what I’m paying for and not get finessed
potentialily if your not a mechanic you probably still shouldn’t do things
Those lessons will definitely come in handy💰
Well when that check engine light comes on and your basic obd scan tool can’t pick up any codes. You’ll have to take it to the shop
That’s very good lad and I’m thankful to my dad for getting me the help that I need so that when I need my car mended I’ll always remember my dad especially when I had to hold the flash light and he would often yell and laugh after
@@swifterflyI disagree. You can learn to do the basics yourself.
Meineke is the worst. And im not talking about their lack of mask wear
90% of the time they rip you off and say u need other things replaced but also 90% of the time they actually take hood parts off your car and put bad ones in so u come back again
that is why you just do it yourself
ultimate shota exactly but everyone doesn’t know this
The thing is, if you're going to take your car to a quick lube, always bring your own oil and filter. And absolutely always demand to be there and watch. If it can't be done, move on to some independent shop. There's lots of options. It's best to learn basic oil change so you can do it yourself.
or just ask your neighbor if they can help
I was fired for not ripping off people but now I'm an unemployed certified automotive graduate.
Careful now you're a hero
This is one reason I like Valvoline. They have cameras where you can see what the mechanic is doing under your car and you stay in your vehicle for an oil change.
Valvoline broke the neck on my oil fill -,-
@@CbrF4i600cc Okay. Sorry that happened to you. I have yet to have a bad experience. This is from three years ago.
"You get what you pay for"
Ive heard that so manyy timess
I literally placed my Honda suv at a Hispanic car repair shop overnight to fix my ac, then I retrieved it the next day and lo and behold my car stopped 3 times on the speeding highway at night, basically me and my mom almost died 3 times, later my dad discovered that they stole and replaced my alternator, me and my dad went back to them and before we uttered a word they started yapping and became hostile as if they’ve been through this before with others they’ve stolen from so they were prepared🤦🏽♂️, basically don’t leave your car untrustworthy people, This was all this week btw
y-y-you... need to report that
go to the local police department and make a claim
“That employee is Not wearing a mask!”
Says the guy not wearing a mask.
“You get what you pay for”
I have heard that before.
This is the 3rd time i've seen someone say this
Unfortunately this is a common occurrence. I work as a lube tech and quite often am replacing filters that should of been replaced sooner
DIY.
Car companys in 2020: oh yeah?? We'll see about that.
"Face mask on their chin"- As the doctor completely removes his whole face mask 🤦♂️
You can be half asleep and able to change your oil. It is easy. Biggest issue people have is not knowing what to do with the old oil.
Also over tightening the drain bolt is a classic mistake, it's not under high pressure so doesn't need much
Take it to auto zone they recycle it
One time my friend replaced all his brakes, took it it a car place for oil change same day and they tried telling him he needs to get his brakes replaced
Most mechanics lie and mislead customers just so they get more of your money
What percentage do you think?
My girlfriend (before she met the love of her life :) was charged $300 to change her headlight bulb on a 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse, she was told its expensive because its a xenon light bulb and her front bumper would have to be removed so the high cost is for labor.
I couldn’t believe they charged her so much especially since they didn’t put the light bulb in correctly, which I ended up correcting in 5 minutes, without taking off any bumper. The level of greed is unbelievable a xenon light bulb only cost $10-15 online, I couldn’t understand how someone could rip someone off sooooo bad for 5 minutes of “work” and $15 of parts. I was furious but unfortunately that shop is another state otherwise I would have gone there and told every single customer ehat a scam artist that guy is.
One time, I was leaving work and heading to the times sq train station and out of no where I saw Lisa confront someone who skipped the turnstile ahead of me. True story.
It happened to me a few times, so now I tell them to make sure you change the filter, because it has been marked.
Thats why I learn all about my vehicle and fix my car and perform maintenance myself. Not afraid to get my hands dirty.
I got a ad about fixd which supposedly finds the problem in your car.
this hasn't aged well..
1:29 what chin
SHES A GINNY ITALIAN ! YOU CAN TELL! FROM HER CHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I work at a shop, we wash our hands before getting into a customers car, also we disinfect everything we touch in the car
"HONEST MISTAKE" lol..
Like we buy that alibi. Lmao.
i really need to learn how to do an oil change on my own
google is a wonderland of information
Me too, me too
Tbh I wouldn’t want a guy with one eye servicing my car
Yeah this is why I also do all of my car things myself I do my own oil change and it only cost me about $30 not even that sometimes cheaper depending if I get what kind of oil
the damn dirty line too: *labor*
Mechanic: Hey an Inside edition sticker! *_brief pause_*
An oil and filter change here in Jersey costs like 25 bucks and 40 at most

$150 for oil change...wow I guess I'm missing out on those prices by driving a beater that uses basic everything lol
I'll never understand why people can't just change their own oil. it's ridiculously easily. I get handicapped/elderly but the younger generation cmon it takes less than 10 minutes
That’s why I do my own labor on my car. Unless is something complicated I take it to a authorize dealership.
Keeping your car well maintained is more important than anything else even a car permit or driver's licence.
Yay! They have more videos of these! 😁
Hey inside edition, why did the silver nissan go in with a white filter with sticker on side but when you checked it and claimed it was not changed it was then a black filter with sticker on base?
At least the last guy gave them a refund he is kind
bruh what he def just did it because he got caught 😂
That moment when you can’t stop binge watching Inside Edition..
😶😶why r u right
Wow, refunded the entire cost of the filter. Not an honest mistake to drain the oil from a place other than the filter.
Doesn’t anyone know how to change their own oil?
new oil bottle, open the cap, pour it in, close the cap
boom, saved 100 USD
Unfortunately, overweight people couldn't go underneath their car to change it for themselves...
Sock Team Studios pfff. My dad does it all the time. And he’s pretty big.
My uncle originally from Alabama still does
Plastic on the steering wheels sounds like a hand grip slip hazard waiting to happen
When your so early 12 people say there first
Honest mistake? Doubt it. The first thing to do is finding a compatible new filter in inventory. That guy wasn’t looking at all.
Wait, they used a Nissan Armada, but put cameras on a chevy? 0:42
Wth my area modesto ca I get my oil changed on my truck for only 43 dollars and not only we get to see the guy change the filter and oil and also they make sure you have water in your water tank
130$ for a oil change?? That’s already a red flag
Try and make one about Jiffy lobs for the time and Nap is oil change service also
Check the sanitation on a bus, they wash every hour but they run out of hand sanitizer so fast
The car goes vroooom!
You should repair at your own service dealership, they know lot of stuff about your car.
Lol. This didn’t age well.
HOW DARE YOU BREATH IN MY CAR?!? 🤣
I don’t blame meinake for not returning your call, they have nothing they need to explain to you
They showed a white filter with a white sticker, then they showed a black filter with a white sticker. That kinda sus
1:40 looks like someone ran into a crowd in the background
i am not scared of the FBI i am scared of inside edition
Anyone else notice while he was showing where the cameras were the suv changed from a chevrolet to a nissan?
most likely used multiple cars since they went to multiple shops
Always go to a dealer they have to document everything and if anything gets messed up take it back and they will fix it no problem
Once my dad went to go get his car fix because it always made a weird noise in it and he put in it a repair shop and he was to wait about 2-3 weeks. BUT what happened he waited two months and they barely even fixed what he asked for
Where i live, the put a plastic wrap on the steering wheel and gear shifter when servicing
I always take my Toyota to a Toyota dealership for any maintenance if needed so i get quality products along with trusted service 😎

A nice corn-holing, I think so 🤔 🤣
You guys should try Supershop in merced California
Always ask for the old parts.
I'm more concerned about them repairing the damn car then them coughing in the car
This is why i watch them change mine or I do it myself
130 dollars is not bad for a good oil vhange
$130 for an oil change and new filter?!?!? Jesus
Theme Today: Just change your own oil
130$ for oil change and filter? I do mine in less than 15 mins and spent 25$ and I use full synthetic and oem filters.
This is why i love bmws and their free maintenance plan
130!? For an oil change!!!!!!! Holyy!
They still getting over .. if you change the oil not the filter that's like not getting it changed
$130 for an oil change, it's $40-50 here in GA
Brought a repair shop the correct tools and oil to just lift my car and refill it , after that my Car started overheating out of no where
I had a 1986 Buick back in 2008 and I took it to just brakes when I was a teenager, they told me it would cost $750 to change my brakes and master cylinder, that’s when I learned how to work on my own car, in the end it cost me under $100 in parts
@thenewshmoo I drive a Tesla now, the Buick lasted me around 4 years till I scraped it
I just do my own quick oill change and other minor things
I think the plastic part is a bit too much but I'd say you have to put gloves on when interacting with the inside of the vehicle
yes they brought it back
