Inside a Bullet Factory - Norma Ammunition Factory Tour

- We went out to Sweden to visit Norma Ammunition, to see the place that produces 75 million pieces of complete ammunition a year! We looked around case manufacture, learned how they make projectiles, got involved in bullet testing and even had a play with a .505 Bibbs and .460 Weatherby on Norma's testing range.
This really was a trip to remember!

I’ve seen the name Norma millions of times and didn’t know that it was Swedish, this gives me even more respect of this fine product. Thanks for this show and thank you Norma for making it possible.
Norma factory in Hungary is Gecko whose parent company is RAUG.
originally a norwegian company founded in 1895 in oslo, moved to åmotfors during the invasion of norway, has remained there ever since
@@almaadams3631 RUAG not RAUG
@@AustrianJager Gimme a break(and thanks for the heads up)
@@almaadams3631 There is also a Norma factory in Savannah,GA
I love how they have old DWM machinery that has to be 85+ years old. DWM was a German company that later became Mauser.
Old world quality
DWM was taken over by the Quandt Group in 1929. It was KWG.. Königlich Württembergische Gewehrfabrik that became Mauser.
DWM made Lugers, too.
Thanks for the heads up was trying to search for DWM machinery n nothing was coming up
Norma makes some of the finest ammo in the world. Great brass, very good projectiles and amazing consistency.
i agree the ammo is excellent and well priced
After Norma recalled my .308 ammo and screwed me out of a bunch of money, I'll never buy Norma again!
As a toolmaker i must say that i like the term “stretcy things” 👍👍
Norma makes my favorite ammo. I've shot a lot of it at ranges, and I use their ammo for hunting almost exclusively. It's been a hot minute since Norma invited a film crew to their premises, I'm happy it was TGS's team. Special thanks to them for making my beloved .338 Win Mag, which is unfortunately not too popular in Europe.
Can you please tell me the difference between
.338 Win Mag and. 338 LAPUA Mag..? And is there a .338 NORMA Mag..?
@@Duschbag The .338 Win Mag was introduced by Winchester in 1958 for the Model 70 and was intended for big game hunting in the northern parts of the US. Its perfect bullet weight is considered to be 225 gr. .338 Lapua Mag and .338 Norma Mag actually have a .339 bullet diameter. The first one was developed for long-range military applications, its parent cartridge is the .416 Rigby and it's intended to be used with a 300 gr projectile. The second is geared more towards long-range competition shooting and has the most modern and efficient design.
The 338 Win Mag isn't very easy to get in the states, by any manufacturer, either.
The NORMA plant shown here is an AMMUNITION FACTORY. Not a "bullet factory". Yes, they DO make bullets there as part of the ammunition, I know and I use their products. Havesomeone with experience who speaks English proof your dialogue, PLEASE. Unless sounding ignorant is not an issue?

The eurotrash +wa+waffle who put his face in this video certainly could not, I certainly can. But you can too, I expect...
Smashing video thank you, and thank you to NORMA for the access and giving you the opportunity to film.
I have watched enough episodes of "How it's Made" to have had a pretty good guess at ammunition manufacture, which I have thought about many times while handling ammo. I do some hand reloading and am always so impressed by the consistency of bulk ammo over the course of millions upon millions of rounds. I was always curious about the actual manufacturing process. This was a fascinating and informative video. Thank you!
Yes, perhaps to a certain point. But, the video producer has glossed over certain aspects.
It was a Missed Opportunity to be very Scientific, which this video attempted, but failed. Be it for fear or favour.
When it comes to The Real Bullet's, Education is Key! Which oddly enough should be a Duty on The Manufacturer, And, a Duty on the Rifleman using the Bullet's.
Whilst, i Believe, That the Norma company had an intention, especially with use of Jello Targets, to show from a Scientific viewpoint, it was lost in translation into the end Video.
Weapons, Rifles, Side arms, Long Range Rifles ALL Require Different Bullet's, which ideally the Manufacturer should have A Duty to Educate The Rifleman, at least the Civilian's. The Military would also be a Duty, which would require somewhat different delivery.
Now, it is up to the various Manufacturers to Step Up to their DUTY!

Truly appreciate Norma's 22 match ammunition affordably priced decent accuracy in my rifles and usually available. Keeps the fun in and pain out of my rimfire experience.
God bless those in all the industries that are keeping hunting, competition, self-defense and every other form of the firearm industry alive around the globe.
Some of the best brass for reloading is made by Norma.
I rarely push brass past four or five loads, when it's Norma brass, I just keep going and going. It easily has twice the life use of reloads from other factories brass.
NORMA is making a lot of ammo brass none will/can make...... a pure goodwill and service
they get their brass from AMMO Inc in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. How do i know that? I work at ammo inc. We produce .223, 9mm, and more ammo for norma for some reason, I don't know why. But ammo inc or once was known as Jagemann munitions is quality brass casings which ammo inc makes for, AAC, Hornady, Federal, Norma, Barnes, and more!
That’s great to know, started buying aac last year. Their prices compete with my reloading.
@@markespich8574 If you ever see any brass casings it self head stamped (JAG) which stands for Jagemann I believe, it's the same casing as AAC, Aguila, Norma, Barnes, Hornady, Ammo Inc, Federal, but just with a different head stamp.
Underrated ammo manufacturer!
TGS excells once again. TGS are raising the bar on You Tube Shooting content. Well done all.
Norma is what I think of when it comes to top tier ammo and the US headquarters actually moved to my state of good ole Georgia 😁 A lot of firearms manufacturers have moved here recently and I'm lovin it.
When is the Georgia factory starting production? What calibers will they make there? Can I visit to make a purchase? Local also.
@@paulmontello6074 It's already open it's in Pooler, Ga. I don't know of all of the ammo they have but I'm pretty sure they'll have all the common calibers and a few odd balls that people use for big game hunting.
I live right next to Federal Ammunition Factory. Never thought to ask for a tour ! Very cool.
I have watch a number of videos of ammunition factory tours but this is by far the best. Thank you.
I've gotten into reloading ammo with my dad, but this gives me a whole new appreciation for manufacturers
As a toolmaker it was fun to see the line ammunition must be one of the most press and draw die heavy production lines out there from .22 lr to 155 mm and above
I’m surprised someone as versed in shooting knew so little about bullet design and using the right tool for the job. Great to see the differences so clearly in high speed gel!
I am most impressed by those machines to make the bullets. Try inventing that!
Fantastic video Johnny. Imagine how long it took them to develop every step of production. It takes many years. The knowledge these guys have is astonishing. Love this factory tour mate.
This is absaloutly fantastic. The knowledge and skill in this factory is something else. This is by far the best video I have seen this whole year. Thank you 😊😊😊
I bought some Norma bullets and the price but the performance was great no jambs out of 200 rounds and I didn’t know where they came from! This video is fantastic to see compassion and the workers and the Company has the ability to show others how to stand together and be as one to create an awesome Bullet and the vast variety made! Thanks Great video!
Wake up and view the world .
One of the few manufacturers that made reliable 10mm ammo for my Star Megastar from 1978
19:07 Wonderful to see the old 96 still at work. I think theres even the Crest on the ring!
A man of culture I see.
I work for Ammo Inc, Norma gets their brass casings from Ammo INC (or once was known as JAG case, from jagemann stamping across the street from ammo inc) i'm not sure why but we make .223 norma and 9mm norma for Norma for some reason, when it is a ammo inc facility.
I'm just curious what you think of Ammo Inc? I've seem to have the worst luck with them, every thousand rounds I buy, always seems have a few quality issues.
@@virtuaguyverify if u want my opinion, their products are crap because their qc is garbage and they hire any idiots who don't give a crap about the job. That explains why you get garbage products lol. Otherwise their brass casings are good that's why we make cases for Hornady, Barnes, and HPM India. Also ammo inc uses Hornady projectiles. Ammo Inc don't make primers, not sure where they get theirs, but from what I heard they are trash.
I have loaded my own ammunition for years, but I never knew how bullets were manufactured - lots of sizing and re-sizing jackets & cores. Loved the video , learnt a lot.
Norma ammunition has maintained an excellent reputation for decades.
Great ammunition, and Norma brass very tough and great for reloading.
Freedom is expressed one piece of brass at a time
Popping off little lead pills of pacification.
Thank you for the tour, I especially appreciate the firing of the rounds.
Thank you and Norma for the tour and info.
in rural eastern Ontario, it’s not possible to get any construction work done the first week of November because,, the area shutdowns for the start of deer hunting.
Nice to have common ground with European nations.
Very good, I read a treatise on case composition years ago, but the interesting thing was how important it was to correct ratio of metals and alloys to make sure the casing didn't jam in the rifle mechanism. A bullet looks simple but there has been years ad years of experimentation and science behind every cartridge.
Had not heard of Norma - I have mad respect for this company and their people - great video!
Where have you been ?
Far far away...for a long long time!
1... I need to check the Norma reloading for their 30-06 loads for my M1.
2... Thought is was interesting that the test loads are pressed on what looks like either a Redding or RCBS press.
3... It has to be one of the coolest jobs in the world to work at an ammo plant.
4... Great video thanks for taking us along on the tour.
2. The press had RCBS on the side so. . .
@@David-hm9ic You've got a better eye for details than i do.. thank you for pointing this one out to me
Thank you for information of items we take for granted.
Norma is wonderful ammo! One of the best in the world IMO
My CZ loves Norma ammo.
Norma= BEST IN THE WEST! Thank you. ❤❤❤❤
It was an interesting trip. Female relatives in Värmland worked there during WWII.
Impressive operation
Norma name is known to me. This was a fascinating look inside a Bullet Factory.
Norma brass is considered some of the best available by serious reloaders. The Oryx bullet is also very well respected.
It boggles my mind to imagine some people had to devise & manufacture all the pieces, parts, gears, rods, tracks, tumblers, cutters, etc. to create all the machinery it requires just to mass-produce ammunition. And somebody had to assemble all the parts & make them work. And somebody else had to make whatever tools were needed to make all the machines continue operating, & somebody else did the actual operating & finally turning out this single product. 💥🤯💥
Norma makes outstanding ammunition.
As an American, this is a good channel.
I once owned a Norma Mag. I bought 60 rounds of Norma made ammo. All sixty bullets were loose in the cases...
I fired them off, fire forming them and reloaded them.
We like Norma, the brand has always performed splendidly for us...
After Norma recalled my .308 ammo and screwed me out of a bunch of money, I'll never buy Norma again!
Fantastic video
I do like norma rounds. I'll definitely be buying more!
Sweden will be a member of the North Atlantic Treaty very soon
I have always used Norma cases for my handloads.
Another amazing, well put together video. Outstanding.
This is fascinating how bullets are made thank you for sharing.
Excellent video and a giant thanks to Norma for the tour!
What a great video Jonny, very informative and liked how the testing is done 👍
gotta love learning how stuff is made!
A long time ago I worked for the company that made the transfer presses that made some of Norma's smaller calibre FMJ bullets. Looks like they've changed to a different process now.
This ammunition has been a top quality, premium product for as long as I can remember. It always seemed plagued with high cost and distribution issues. For some European and military calibers of cartridges bordering on obsolete, Norma was all there was to be had for decades. I hope with the new changes that the availability will be good and consistent now. We American hunters deserve to have Norma on the retail shelf as an option.
Lets hope so, but probably not. The war grabs a fair deal of everything.
When there is less, consumers here buy more, and even less is exported.
There is also the matter of Nammo and whether they can increase production.
Bullets, cases, heck, even primers, is expensive right now. Depends on the calibre, maybe 5.56 isnt too bad, but 6.5mm surely is.
I hope i am wrong about this.
I only shoot shotguns but that was really interesting 👍
Big Norma fan. Great to see the factory. Cheers
I've been a fan of Norma for a while now. Very informative and enjoyable video.
I absolutely loved this video. It was informative and educational. Thank you and Norma for this.
This is amazing. Nicely researched & narrated
Have Always Liked Norma AS Their bullets Are Always Right On
I only shoot shotguns so that was a real education for me. Loving all the factory tours you do.
A great video. Thanks to NORMA for the excellent access.
NORMA IS KING 👍🏻
I was impressed with their testing range, feeding them data instantly.
I remember my grandfather using your ammunition 55 years ago, but I usually purchased Remington for my rifles. Anyway, thank you for the
Excellent. Very comprehensive.
Thank you very much for showing the complete process inside of Norma.
I've used Hornaday v.max for varmints. And mostly Norma Bonded for Deer and Elk.
But I'm gonna have to try those solids now. Ron Spoomer has spoke very highly on them ad well.
I served in the U.S. Army with the M1 Garand, the finest battle rifle in the world.
I'd love to take a crack at firing both the .460 Weatherby and the .505 Gibbs.
I was experimenting with a modern falling-block rifle in .45-70. This rifle weighed six and a half pounds. This load is not safe in either trapdoor Springfields or Winchester lever rifles, so I won't print it. I was getting 1900 feet per second with either a 500 grain jacketed bullet or a 550 grain gas checked cast bullet.
One of the range staff asked me to try his .375 Epstein, an improved .375 H&H wildcat. After it fired, I kept trying to press the trigger. When asked what I was doing, I looked up and asked, "Did it fire?" The tingling sensation I was getting in the groin area I later learned was more hair growing on my balls.
There's definitely a joke to be made here about Epstein and lack of groin hair, but I'll let you all fill in the blanks.
@@chaimafaghet7343 :
The doctor I had then is also a shooting enthusiast. He was the one who told me it was growing MORE hair on my balls.
@@chaimafaghet7343 :
Second try. First one lost and floating around somewhere in cyberspace.
Doctor I had then explained it to me.
I just wonder if either rifle is anything like the time I had a ten gauge double on me, both barrels on one pull of the trigger. Both barrels had 3 1/2 inch magnums.
This was a great video! Really enjoyed it!
Great educational video! Always fun to watch Johnny, but this was one of the best.
Great video. I’ve came to appreciate Norma ammo in the last year. They make some amazing stuff.
Their cases are second to none, well with the exception of Lapua. Have shot Norma brass for years and their .30-06 is now on its 18th reload and STILL going strong, with ZERO case head separation. Just regular case length, and primer pocket check and occasional trimming. BEAUTIFULLY made, and was superb to watch this video and SEE it being made
Thank you for this well-done, informative video. I am very favorably impressed by the Norma company.
Got me some Norma hollow points in my edc pdp right now. Solid product. High end watches, cars, ammo. Swedes are killing it.
Thanks Norma that was amazingly awesome great footage I had a great time
I really enjoyed the information in creating different types of bullets. Thank you very much,
שלם
Thanks for sharing! Looks like a fun trip!
That was AWESOME!
One hell of an operation!
I had always used norma brass for reloading of a few of my calibers and it was great. Now I know where and how its made and it feels good.
Norma and Lapua makes all my favorite components from my 416Rigby down to my .22's. Cases, bullets and powder. Interesting that neither makes primers (or alternatively sells them). Bonded or monolithic for all my hunting (South-Africa). Cup and core for paper only.
Great video. Thank you.
Excellent company!
Outstanding Video. Thank you
This is cool as I just ordered some Norma ammo yesterday.
