Austin is going to love it! Anyone receiving such a treasure is extremely fortunate. I enjoy watching your process and hearing you 'think out loud.' You are a fearless quilt rock star. Quilt on!!!
Dying here, imagining how much my friends and family would love a fast forward button when I'm thinking out loud at them. I'm really glad you explained about fiberglass pipe because I had been shouting at you to get some PVC. I was also confused about glue basting the seam allowance down on your applique until you machine stitched it. Nice one! This quilt is SO fun. My sister has our grandmother's lava lamp, a real one with all the hazards whatever they are, and I bet she would love this. I want to make lava globs!
I hope to learn how to make patterns someday but it would probably take me a while to get it together :-/ But I'm ok with people replicating my work I would be flattered 😜👨🏻

Great design! I just found your channel today and have watched about six videos straight! I found the one where you did the Hawaiian quilt while I was watching Cissy from Poakalani Quilts's tutorial, and yours came up in the feed. That convinced me! Now I have to make a HQ cushion! But this lava lamp quilt floors me! My husband has a lava lamp and I don't dare let him see this video, or he'd be saying; "make me one!" LOL! I've only made two quilts so far. I can't believe how many you've done here - how long does it take to do them? I liked the one with the "box of crayon" fabric you got, and the wedding ring one for your friends - really great techniques in that one! Thanks for posting these! I love the speeded up parts doing the calculations! Raining in PA, had some lovely thunderstorms this week, hoping we're done with snow.
Was there a lava lamp quilt there ? 😜 I wasn't the first person to make one so someone else could have come up with the idea too although I'm curious if they watched my video 😜👨🏻
I don't have like a pdf or anything, but I think it's doable without that, and designing the lava lamp is part of the fun ! 😜 If I remember correctly it was the width of a sheet of paper and then the length of 18.5 inches, I taped two pieces of paper together, and then drew the lava lamp out and then I cut it out, traced it onto pieces of card stock, added a quarter inch seam allowance all around each piece and then cut them out again :P I always thought about making patterns of my quilts but Im not much of a computer person so Idk how to do all that... I could probably figure it out but it doesn't seem super fun... I just want to make quilts 😂
I'd love to hear you talk about your appliqués. What stitch do you use? Do you stabilize with a fusible? I would love to do more raw edge appliqué, but I worry about the durability.
In this video I applique the lava blobs on and I turned the edges under with a glue stick and then used the same glue stick to baste them on the block, then I sewed close to the turned edge with a straight stitch. In a couple of the blocks I used flexifuse on the lava, but ultimately I realized that I didn't need it because the glue stick was working better and the fusible is too valuable to waste. I use fusible in applique sometimes it just depends on how big the piece is and weather I think the pieces will shift... I did raw edge applique for another video and that quilt held up well... one or two of the pieced fell off (out of hundreds) and that was probably because of my own lack of skill at the time 😅 thank you for your support!
I don't know how to write patterns and I never keep track of how much fabric I used etc 🤷🏼♂️😅👨🏻 maybe some day but until then I don't mind if people copy it and make their own 😜👨🏻

I love this. I want to make this for one of my teenagers. Do you have a printable template or measurements for us to draw our own out?

Will you be willing to sell a template set for lava lamp?
I would actually like to hear the math figuring!
Do you sell patterns?
