I love this version of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II. I completed these a few years ago and are still a joy to play. Thank you for uploading this video. A thrill to watch. 🙂
HP levels by losing it. Striking yourself is a controlled way to level HP levels. The same goes for MP. Attacking raises Strength, attacking yourself accelerates this. Same for Stamina, being struck, and so on. That's the primary leveling mechanic of the game. By being careful and using your own allies to strike themselves, you accelerate the rate and chance of getting a stat level up at the end of battle. This is why many consider FF2 to be a bit of an "ugly duckling" amongst the FF games, but this mechanic is highly abusable and you can get endgame stats right out of the first town with enough time. I did this as a challenge to myself at one point and I had all weapon levels on each of the 3 starting characters maxed, stats in the 80s and such, all from grinding just outside the beginning town of Altair.

I need to play DAWN OF SOULS again...
Had the actual cart years ago, and had lots of fun playing both games. Also... Blood Sword is the best weapon in FF2.
I love this channel. I back to child again.
Me been a veteran NES/Famicom player, I stay with the original Final Fantasy games but, I just wonder why they named it "Dawn of Souls"?
Because dual series final fantasy dawn of soul, ff1 and ff2 same time
Thank You Very much i so much Love Final Fantasy. please more video from FF3-4 too

AWESOME GAME! COOL? 😍
44:00 keeps hitting his own teammates. 45:00 keeps hitting his own teammates
That actually helps level them up, silly I know, but that's how this game originally worked as well on the Famicom.

@@cerule-magus Who figured that one out?
@Khaeldranis but no me i decide to do a
"Battle with no magic*
1:19:00 keeps draining his teammates magic points. This has got to be the most disappointing longplays I have ever seen
That actually helps level up your allies faster believe it or not.
Bloodreign1 that sounds really ridiculous
@@DwayneFroston It is, and is kind of why FF2 has a poorer reputation than the other early Final Fantasy games.
