I understand maaco and their reputation for low quality cheap paint jobs but they exist for a reason. There's a market for it. There are so many 20 year old Hondas with sun peeling paint that could use this and they would look 1000x better. It's not meant to impress anyone. I think they do good work *FOR THE PRICE* the car looks good overall.
@Laserlite 3000 Its well known about the Honda paint recall. And yes in cali with the sun, alot of 8th gen civics peeled before 100k miles. Some within 2 years of being new. My RBP sedan had peeling clear and crows feet at 60k!! And i work in a body shop & take care of my paint! Unacceptable. Even worse is mine is 3 stage & dark blue. Very hard to color match
@Laserlite 3000 depends on if you know a "guy" that works at a body shop & will work on it after hrs. I saw that all the time at my shop. And you can get a good paint job under 4500, just depends on how greedy your painter is. Body work is extra of course
Eboni Tucker bullshit. I drive a 1978 chevy truck every day. It is the most reliable vehicle. All my late 1970’s chevys I have ever owned are incredibly durable. Only if you know how to repair them. If your a stupid shit , then your car won’t last anyway.
As a former Maaco painter at 3 different locations in my let me say a few things ..... Don’t ever pay for the “uv protection packages” we never did any extra anything at any of the 3 locations I worked at . You essentially are throwing money away . Don’t waste your money on “integrated clearcoat” it’s bs . We added a 1/2 pint to a pint of clear to the single stage paint . What does this do ? Stretches the already cheap and barely there paint for one more coat . We used an average of 3-4 pints of paint for an all over repaint . This is NOTHING if you desire any sort of reliability and longevity . At most locations if you bitched about the color change fee , you can get it waived , this is true esp in instances like the video , with multiple existing colors . We sealed every car , so a color change is a moot point , and again money wasted And last , “sanding” consists of running some 320 on a DA over heavy chips and scratches and using a red scotch brite on the remainder of the car - hardly sanding I would not recommend this for a car you plan on keeping. This is perfect for something you would like to sell, or a quick accident repair. Otherwise there are much better options. Even learning to do it yourself you can get a better job
For real diy it lol youtube and some time and it would look tits!!!!!!!. Spend a fraction of the cost and you actually give a fuck how it turns out. Plus you learn something new and can say " ya I painted it myself" I'd just do it myself.
I've done some fill-in paint work at a Maaco type paint shop and I can attest to all of this. Get it in, get it done, get it out. I actually got a bit of crap from the shop owner for using "too much material" spraying some old big buick. It was already some cheap thin 2k urethane, splashed some cheap MS clear in with it, and I put down three coats instead of two, because it still looked shitty and had no gloss after two coats (Thanks to cheap material) I tried to explain that if they used good products, 2 coats would have been fine. I'm glad I got away from that kind of paint work. All of the painters that I talked to that do that kind of work long term have ZERO pride in their work. They don't care if your paint peels in 3 months, they don't care if they cut your trim with a razor blade, they don't care if they leave a huge run at the bottom of the door because "Nobody will see that" (True story)
The place I was at, customers have brought their own clear coat. There was like a half gallon of some pretty good Deltron HS clear, I asked about it. The owner said a customer "Gave" it to them, and they only use it on certain stuff. I had a strong feeling they took the products, but just saved them for later and sprayed the cheap shit. There was also like a gallon of some Valspar 999 basecoat (Really good stuff, not exactly cheap) Same story, apparently the customer "gave" them that basecoat. I have a feeling they sprayed their cheap colour and kept his. They were spraying some trashy "Pro star" basecoat that was junkkk.
In 1994 I saved up all summer in hs working at taco bell to get my 280zx painted black at maaco. They did a fine job and I drove it to my first day of my Junior year at school like a BOSS........
My first car was a 71 510. Probably a megabuck rally car somewhere after I gave it away. I had it Maaco-ed and they did a pretty nice job for my purposes. Even with a color change from baby vomit butterscotch to canary yellow, I soon after blackened the B pillars and trim.
I worked at Maaco 5 years ago, they can do good work, depends on who you get and what sort of time we were allocated to a particular car. Our painter was an awesome young 20-something who was extremely dedicated to his craft and put out flawless work on every panel he sprayed, the odd time there’d be a contaminant, it would go back out to me to be stripped then back into the booth. We put out some great finished products, again all depending on what was being done and how much you were paying for it. Keep in mind it goes through the hands of 5 or so separate people during the paint process: someone on disassembly, someone on sanding and filling (me at the time), someone on masking and taping, someone on paint, and someone on reassembly. The phrase “too many cooks spoil the repair” was sometimes appropriate.
You bring up a good point. There are many people handling your car during the process. So that means the quality you get can be limited to the weakest link. I had my car done and feel I was lucky. I think all of the links in the process of my car were pretty solid. I am very impressed with the final product. I know what my car looked like when I brought it in. My family was very surprised as they thought it looked like a new car, and not like a ten year old car that was painted. The Maaco I went to gave me those results. But you are definitely limited to the talent of each person who handles your car. In my case I feel all departments did a great job. I had a lot that needed to be done so, I cannot complain at all. I am now very proud to drive in my car again. I even got a complement from someone the other day. They too thought the paint job was superb, and they didn't know it was just repainted.
I went to Maaco today asking for the 499 special. The guy laughed and said the sanding alone will cost a thousand dollars. Quoted at $2,800 after asking for the absolute cheapest job he could offer. I refered to this video and he said he could not speak for what other Maaco franchises are doing. Your thoughts?
For what you paid, you didn't do bad at all.. And besides, it passes the 5 foot test just fine.. But if it was mine, I would have paid the little extra to have the jambs painted....
Yes, my grandpa had them paint my grandma's car years ago. They damaged some trim, painted some emblems, and the paint started peeling by the next year. I actually think that it looked better before it was repainted.
@Steve Allen There's also the ground clearance, Even minor changes can affect how useful they are to certain people. I don't own either but if i was going to get one the ground clearance alone would be enough to make me choose one over the other personally :)
@Steve Allen Bigger radiator, an oil cooler, better dual exhaust and cold air airbox, bigger throttle body, stiffer springs, bigger sway bar in front, added sway bar in the rear, much bigger alternator, lower gear ration, wider rims, but yeah, pretty much the same as a civilian Crown Vic..LOL (I've had 2, an '05 and a '10)
I take new, pre-primered panels to Maaco, just one at a time usually. Practically impossible to screw up, no overspray to worry about and quick as hell.
Post a video a year or so from now of how it looks. I don't understand why they can't properly mask off the parts of the car that shouldn't have paint on them. 499 should cover that imo
Yea the overspray kinda pisses me off I wouldn’t wanna get my car back to find out there’s overspray on my muffler or on my headlights 500 dollars is still kinda a lot for most people and you’d think for 500 they care little more.
Last car I took to Earl Sheib, there was tons of overspray on the glass AND the trim around the glass. And pieces of tape still stuck to it. Later I found out that franchise was subsidized by the gov't to hire ex-cons.
$500 isn’t crap for a paint and if it’s a lot for you then you shouldn’t spend it on a paint for a junker also just because it’s a lot for you doesn’t mean anything costs a lot to pay for lot building material employees and tax
To be honest, I'd take it back for the missed spot under the trunk and for the foreign matter. They can easily fix the foreign matter by sanding that small area and spraying it.
For real I'd also tell them to buy me new headlights. It looks like they just did a half fast and lazy job. Id loose it. Idk all you do is paint cars that's your business. So why all the fuck ups.
so basically if your respraying a car with the color it already is and a pretty straight body, you getting a solid 7/10 paintjob for 500$. definitely not bad at all
Can't beat that for the price! Obviously someone with a show car isn't gonna get a $499 paint job but for a daily driver that just needed to look better this is awesome! That blue looks great!
I recently learned how to paint cars myself. After doing two of my own, I have major respect for what Maaco does for under 1 grand. Yes, I did the repairs and body work myself, to a level far and beyond what they do, but it took many, many, many, many hours, like 100+ hrs to get it right. Yes, I used base and clear and better than the cheap single stage they use and yes, my materials ALONE, cost more than their whole paint job cost, but unless you have a nice classic car that you care about, most cars that need a paint job are 15+ years old and beaters by then, so for those, a Maaco paint job is better than driving peeling clear coat or surfaced rusted panels around. A "real" paint job is going to cost you thousands of dollars or it's going to cost you hundreds of hours of work yourself and hundreds of dollars in materials. Then you need to learn all the grits to use for sanding, when to use them, what materials to spray, how to mix them, how to spray them, then how to wet sand, how to buff and wax and all those tools to make it happen. For what you get for under a grand, dollar for dollar, It would take a multi thousand 5 grand plus paint job to equal the value. The car has to be worth that too, not just a regular, common daily driver.
Well said. Yours is the most insightful and accurate comment here. The flaws in the car shown in the vid are trivial compared to the overall appearance. Not having seen a Maaco job in years - they and competitors were horrible - this one is amazingly good. As for doing it yourself, you are exactly right. My minivan was rear-ended 10 years ago and I lucked out: insurance totaled the van (a ‘99 Dodge). They gave me $4,600 (the van had cost me $1,500), I bought it back for $600 and fixed it for $800, including paint, supplies, a used rear hatch and $200 to a body shop to pull the bumper area back into shape so the hatch would properly latch. Yes, I cleared $3,200, but the job was a huge amount of work prepping, sanding, masking, spraying primer, base, pearl and clear coat. A Maaco single-stage doesn’t involve all that, of course, but the result in this case is actually amazing - and probably a better job than 90 percent of those done in a house garage by a first-timer.
You are so, so much nicer than me. There's a big difference between paying someone $500 to paint your car and paying someone to overspray like crazy, do really iffy prep work and manage to miss noticeable areas. I don't necessarily have a problem with Maaco's work. They're a low-rent outfit that does a low-rent job, and if you just need the thing to be one color so you can dump it on Craigslist, that's what you'll get. What I have an issue with is Maaco pushing the idea that for $500, your car is going to look good as new. What they should do is say to everyone who wants that special, "Look, in order to give you that price, we have to literally drag guys in off the street, put a paint gun in their hands, give them $10 an hour and tell them to try not to paint the driver's seat, so you'll get your $500 paint job, but it's gonna have overspray, missed spots and iffy prep work." But, I mean, if they told you what was really going on, no one would go there, so...
For real man I agree 100% it's false advertisement. Id loose it if that was my car. It don't matter if you notice it or not, the thing is, is that I would notice it. I'd do a better job with some spray cans and youtube lol and the fact that I give a fuck. Obviously they don't so I guess that's the price you gotta pay. I'm a diy kinda guy so I would just do it myself for a fraction of the price
@68Camaro RS/SS Maaco advertises them as perfect, and their ads are aimed at people who don't know anything about cars. You and I know that a $500 paint job is going to suck, but all the all Maaco customer knows is what they see on TV and what the salesperson tells them. They're led to expect a perfect job. That's the difference.
MAACO Auto Body is the best place to learn about auto-body . I worked there for a couple of years and then I went and got ASE certified and then I worked at my uncles busy auto body shop
What I do is help them out and prep a lot of it before pulling in. Do all the sanding and remove all decals and emblems and so on. It's really not that bad.
My brother took a red Buick Sky Hawk into Maco in Florence, Kentucky back in '93 to be painted purple. When we went to pick it up, it was black. Guess that mistake was because purple and black rhyme.🤣
In 1989 had my 1983 Camaro done with their paint special. Had a new refurbished front bumper and a huge drivers door dent fixed all for around 700 dollars. Loved the results it looked great for the money.
In the 80's, I had Maaco throw a $99 paint job on my VW Beetle. I removed all the moldings, door handles, lights and any other trim. I scuff sanded the entire car. When I got it back, I was actually surprised how decent it looked. It actually still looked decent years later when I sold it.
@@Alfred..E..Neuman Nope Joe Blow... Color change means painting the door jams...under hood and trunk.. Thats the $100 bucks dude. Just painting the body a different color does'nt COST anything. You are paying to paint the extra areas.
All your edges will peel and chip in the first year just looking at it in the video and cars always look better on camera than in person so keep that in mind
Perfect "Beater" car, rock-solid drive train, good for at least 300/400k. Now you can park it in the driveway w/o the neighbors mocking you too badly. Those Interceptors were loaded with thousands of dollars of upgrades to the drivetrain/suspension. Flush the tranny and rear end dope......and drive into the graveyard in about 15 years. Use all the money you save investing for retirement.
JonesingJalopies. We sweat fuel economy, but in reality sometimes it isn't much cheaper. If bought new: A 2001 Crown Vic will last 300k - 400k miles with minimal care (I see plenty still). Gets 20mpg/15mpg. Incredibly comfortable. $16,000 for car. 15k mi a year equals 900 gals at $3 or $2700 a year. 20 year car: 16,000 + 3000 for maint + 54,000 fuel. $73,000 A four cyl is likely trendier so $22,000 for an Accord. Likely life 200k. Higher maint due to high rev motor. Cheaper body and interior components. 30/22mpg. 15k mi. $600 a year for fuel. Only 300gal a year less, $900 bucks. Car lasts 10 years before desire to sell so you buy two. You can stretch it to 20 but there will be more maint. 20 year car: $22,000 + 6000 maint + 36,000fuel $64,000 if you can keep one car for 20 $105,000 if you are on your second car after 12-25 years. EVs will just charge you $58,000 - $70,000 up front. Then very expensive repairs out of warranty later and no aftermarket parts. 2 miles per kW so 8 cents a mile via your home outlet. 20 cents a mile via fee chargers. No free lunch.
JonesingJalopies. If you buy a old Crown Vic for $800 and do $400 of deferred maint you get a five year car and cost is much lower. Thus it is a in the hood car. Every 20 year ricer I've seen is becoming a money pit. Any 20 year US econobox is junk by then as they were sold as girl with first job cars. Apples to Apples.
@@CoinHuntingDrew still better than any Chevy or dodge interceptor . And if you have A C.Vic and the transmission isn't running right drop the pan redo the gasket and filter ,I know somebody who did this . Problem solved
@@STho205 Your numbers to maintain a Detroit car for 20 years are woefully inaccurate, by at least 4 to 5 fold or more, as are your numbers to maintain a "rice burner", have owned multiple Camry's and Accords the past 29 years, maintenance is nothing more than oil changes, brakes, tires and a timing belt every 100k. Aside from that have only replaced one power antenna ($89) in the past 29 years!, those 4-bangers go 300-400k easily all day long. For my first 17 years of driving I drove Detroit cars/trucks exclusively, replaced a dozen engines/transmissions as well as performing every other repair known to man....they literally kept me in the poor house. Not mention resale values and they're not even close. Longevity, dependability and durability are their reputation. The money I saved, and invested the past 30 years have built a tidy nest egg for retirement.
" It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?" Elwood Blues
Looks great. The only way to go when you don’t want to spend more than the value of the car on a paint shop paintjob. But what is the point of the “color change” fee if they didn’t paint the door jams? I though that was the whole point of it…
bigggmustang73 It’s straight enamel, so it will fade quite rapidly. An acrylic enamel or urethane paint has UV protection and would last longer. For $499, this is what you get.
In today's world, unless you're painting with Rust-Oleum you can easily have $500.in just the material, I can do as well in my driveway, if the bugs don't fly into it.
@John John I was interested in purchasing a 1982 Celica once, it had supposedly been repainted at Maaco sometime in the 90s. Needless to say, the paint was completely flaking off in huge chunks like necrotic skin.
Thanks for the video! The $400 (total out the door) Maaco Paintjob I got on my 1998 P71 in 2005 (black) in Dallas TX still looks good today in 2023 - really can't complain.
Something I've noticed with Maaco is the quality is heavily dependent on the location and who's actually doing the spraying. We had one in my area that did a great job, so long as you happened to get that specific painter. Then he left, and quality dropped. It's really tough to gauge what you're going to end up with. What you got is a lot nicer than some of the stuff I've seen them put out. (Used to detail cars, I saw a lot of Maaco specials!) For $600, not bad.
I had a Maaco cheapo paint job done on a car I drove through college and it was perfectly fine. Doesn't have the longevity of a really nice paint job and protective clear coat but it still looked fine after about 4 years when I sold it.
I would be slightly upset about half of that overspray considering it was pretty easily avoidable. I wonder what the paint will look like a year from now and if the clear coat with hold up
I have a funny story about a crown vic. I was at a car wash getting my truck clean when a relatively stock looking Crown Vic rolled up but sounded like a monster. My friend who was with me thought it was straight piped but I knew there was more to the car than just loud pipes. So I went over and asked the driver what he had done to it and with a grin the stretched ear to ear he popped the hood. Supercharged 5.4 GT500 motor swap, Custom Intake, Custom exhaust, and just an amazing amount of detail like chrome and paint matching in the engine bay. Said the entire build costed roughly 20k and said the most expensive part was the paint job. It was a special blue like Shelby Blue or something but that car was done so perfectly it looked almost factory.
I purchased the $1000 Maaco special on my 89 Supra about 5 years ago, I garage it every evening and so far I been totally happy with it. It still looks good, no fading, they used the factory number for the original paint (black), I really think they did a good job, but they did keep it for almost 2 weeks, they had to redo a few things because of a new employee, they made it good.
A really good paint job is 95% prep work which cost way more than 499. The overspray and areas that weren't taped well you really can't complain about for the price however I would make them respray the bumpers and the spot with trash in the paint.
100% correct. We had a Scheib job done on the Family Truckster back about 1980. My dad spent a week doing all the prep. People said how good it was for a Scheib job. It was not a great job at that, but it made a car look better for a few years when a replacement car was out of reach.
Painted a Honda Accord at maaco about 10 years ago . I was happy with the car I still think they could have done just a little bit better prepping before they sprayed it . But for the price they did pretty decent work .I wouldn't take an expensive car to them but anything else is good to go .
I painted an old beater Ford Ranger with Rustoleum and a sponge roller. 5 coats of white over the original brown. 8 years later it's still looking fairly well except for scratches from being on the trails. I spent around $45.00 for the materials.
That was me I did all my prep work my self and took it on a trailer there, I taped up so there wasn't over spray underneath, Got the cheap paint job factory color again, I was very happy and it lasted the 4 years I had it then sold it
I like Ford Sky Blue View, 😉. I also like the Richard Petty Blue color. 🚙. I may get a used P71 2005 CV sedan in Sept. I might get a OD, ranger green color or perhaps the "Ford Sky Blue View".
I sanded and painted my truck with rustolium paint and primer combo spray paint and it don't look bad at all and when I ding the paint off I keep a can under my seat so I can fix it whenever I honestly like it and couldn't be happier
@@rageagainstthetoymachine2410 You show me to paint like this for 100usd.....stop your bullshit already, always YT wankers like you on with 0 validity.
I will be perfectly honest here. That is the best $600 paintjob ive seen so far. I have a Ranger pickup truck that I paid what I thought was a reputable guy twice that amount to repaint it and it looks 10 times worse than that. You got a hell of a deal man nice score
I had this exact same thing done to my 2004 Crown Vic in Nov 2010 and I figured I would just repaint it every few years. Well, I just sold it a couple months ago and the 9-year-old $499 paint job looked just as good as day one. No peeling, fading or chipping. However my car was white so that helps, but I live where it is 100+ degrees most of the summer and the car was never in a garage so it held up to well for the abuse.
Shoot I spend more than that every time I try painting a car myself in my garage so yeah I think it was definitely worth it!! I’m going to try them out this month hopefully all goes well
I had my 1965 Chrysler painted at Maaco in 1994, after an accident repair (welded new qtr panel on). I did all prep work myself (sand & fill). I got the better 2-part polyurethane for a half-off winter special, $250. No extra charges. Looked fine w/ no noticeable runs though I did find a hair in the paint (must look close). Paint still looks fine and shiny 28 years later, even after parked outside 6 years in Atlanta (mostly indoors or covered since in sunny CA). Paints have gotten worse since due to environmental regs, so your results may vary. Had to repaint 2 doors after 2 crashes (driver's door - I beat out & body filled, used door for right rear after big buck ran into it). I had noted the paint code used and bought matching base-clear locally and painted those doors off myself. One door I painted off-car horizontally to avoid runs but mistake since the metallic flakes settled differently so appears a different color in strong sunlight. Stuff will happen to your car, so will never be perfect after the first week new.
After someone rear-ended my 98’ LTC, I took it to maaco to have them do the rear bumper. 5 years later and they might as well have not painted it. They must’ve used the wrong kind of paint, because you can pull the chipping paint off the rear bumper. 0/10
It's really a darn good job for the money... just to buy paint and supplies to DIY would be several hundred dollars (assuming you already have an air compressor, hose, and paint gun), and then there is all the time it takes to prep before painting. I've started painting my Crown Vic and I keep wondering if I'd have been better off doing a "cheap" Maaco job. One thing I'm surprised you didn't have them paint the door guards instead of leaving them black.
Based on what a GOOD paint job costs the fact that it looks good from 10 feet away for that price is pretty damn good. I wouldn't count on the clear coat lasting more than a year or two though.
@@jblyon2 True, you get what you pay for. I took my Toyota to a body shop that specializes in German cars, because I wanted a perfect job no matter the cost. I had backed my bumper into a wall and scraped it up. I paid $650 to get the bumper refinished. Yes, really. That's more than this guy paid to paint his entire car. But that was in 2011, and the paint job still looks fantastic. No fading, and the clear coat is still in awesome condition. But, not everyone is willing to spend that kind of money. The MAACO paint job has its place. If someone's driving a beater, it would be silly to spend more than the car is worth on a paint job.
a good paint job on that car can easily be 20000. yeah, for 600, it's great, I did this on my beater 1978 back in the 90s, was very happy and it lasted well for the three years i kept it
@@hamsterama - Well, I paid $700 in 2011 to have Maaco paint the front and back bumpers of a Lincoln Mark VIII. The expense was due to the tricoat paint.
As a painter, those imperfections are unacceptable to me. I could never give it back to the customer like that. It doesn't take THAT much longer to properly tape and protect areas from overspray.
About four years ago I had my 2000 Mustang GT painted at Maaco and they did a pretty good job I got the premium package two coats of paint plus clear coat. I have a 2006 Grand Marquis that I want to get repainted the original color. If it doesn't rain tomorrow I think I will wash it and take it to Maaco to get it started. Ford paint doesn't last beyond about 14 years before it starts peeling off and chipping off. The Grand Marquis is such a wonderful driving car and I want to have the looks commensurate with the way it rides. It has been peeling on the hood, trunk, and roof and the roof has been developing rust spots so I need to get it taken care of. Your car looks good; it's a nice shade of blue.
I think my truck had a maaco paint job on it at one time, the paint has really really bad orange peel, its faded af, and peeling lol. but it just gives me a reason to sand it all down to bare metal and do something nice with it. but I hope yours goes better, I think it all depends on the painter and there level of care
I had a 400 paint job on my taxi from Maaco in Mt Vernon. 3 years and like 200k miles in ny through some rough winters and driving 24/.7 the paint held up perfect I gifted the car to one of my drivers when I sold my share and moved south. no complaints at all!
Do you know how much respect you just got from me for the music you put at the end of the video? Instead of that garbage hip hop and other BS people usually put, you had that sweet guitar in there., props man props!!!
For what you paid you can't complain. Maaco paint jobs can be pretty good or pretty bad..... 2 years ago I had my 2011 CV fixed, had the pass. rear quarter pulled out, rear bumper cover replaced, hole in trunk fixed, half moons on doors fixed front bumper slots fixed. Car was about 1/3 repainted in matching silver. $1800. by a small town body guy. I'm very happy with it and it only has 82,000 miles and 1690 idle hours on it today. Auction price was $2400 out of Washington State. Now the PROBLEM, Washington State DOL Totals and takes back the titles on many cars that are slightly damaged including police cars. I took the car and brought it back to Minnesota figuring no big deal, but it was!! Two years later I think I have the problem solved here in Minnesota and I'm looking forward to having a Minnesota title soon. If a car is on a website from Washington State and it says Totaled, title returned to state, leave it alone no matter how good it looks. I did get tabs and was able to drive the car legally in Minnesota, I hope to have a legal title soon!!
It was soon after my original post that I did finally receive a clean Minnesota Title for the car. It did involve pictures as it was when I bought it and pictures after I had the body work done. I also had to get more documentation from the City of Bellevue Washington on the history of the car. Thanks to Paul Bergeron, Fleet Administrator, and the Bellevue legal team for getting this to a point where Minnesota would accept it!
They should give you back your money and then some for all the good PR you gave them. I buy and sell VICS and would be happy with this job on one of mine.
Maaco is franchised so each franchise will do work differently i suggest visiting a store a few times and look for different finished products. There are some nightmare stories from maacoo
@Joseph Taras those shouldn't be anywhere near $500. And yes you're right, good paint jobs are expensive. That doesn't change the fact that most people getting a $500 paint job at maaco are spending quite a bit relative to what they make.
I took my car in for a paint job, wasn't $500 because I did have them do the jams and such. But I was actually shocked. I was also getting a new rear bumper because mine had a hole in it so just had them install it with the rest. I didnt ask for the head lights or tail lights to be removed because I intended to replace them with aftermarket ones but they actually did remove them. Granted they didnt plug the drivers side one back in so I had no turn signal. But they did a good job. Cars been painted for a year and I have a few chip marks but otherwise looks good. The one I went to opened in 2015 and the guy that worked on my car said he had been painting for 30 years.
I took my Subaru Forester to Maaco and they did a FANTASTIC job! I spent some time sanding and prepping , they did some body work on the parking lot dents and $1200 later the car looks almost new. FYI though, check out the shops in your area. There were three close to us, two had poor feedback and one was stellar. Pays to do research. Of course, the best one was the furthest away. I've done paint jobs and couldn't have done the job for less.
Yes formal customer here. These place serve a purpose for people who don't drive expensive cars and don't want to pay 1000 paint jobs which comes with better quality paints(PPG) and clearcoats.
If you do your own prep work they can lay the paint on pretty nice. I had a 79 Monte painted 15 years ago. I did the prep and sanding and removed headlights, tail lights, taped off some moldings and chrome. It came out pretty nice $914 total (presidential) I think it was. I sold it to a freind and The car still looks good today.... not a daily driver though it's kept in a garage.. but hey...15 years later.
They do a great "10 Foot" paint job.. I've had many (about 20) cars painted using Macco. However here in Atlanta, they are all different, so you should shop around & see which one is the best for you.
Man I'm in Atlanta too and thinking about taking my 97 gt to maaco and having it skeeted black but I've heard black is one of the hardest jobs to get right so idk
The Maaco in Canton Ohio right off the highway North Canton area told me they had my color on the Shelf 1998 Audi platinum silver I was willing to pay for the paint expense it's not your average silver looks like Chrome in the sunlight I got a Chevy Gray with two pounds of metal flake epic fail
My clear coat was a mess ,flaking off on the hood ,roof ,and top edges on the side , i sanded all that myself , alot , then had macco repaint it , @ $370 . Im happy . It looks good .
I doubt it but if u drove gravel roads it would probably chip right away in a week .. I’d rather repaint my truck for that price every 2,3 years once it hit 9,10 years old
The two year update video is out! ruclips.net/video/jrHXphVvU-k/видео.html
I was about to ask for an update. 🤙
Not just Honda.
I seen a butt load of GM from the 90's that have peeled like a banana and could use a paint job like that.
Not to jump in on your argument but saturns dont rust the bodys where made of plastic everywhere !! They just cracked
We sealed every car , so a color change is a moot point , and again money wasted
And last , “sanding” consists of running some 320 on a DA over heavy chips and scratches and using a red scotch brite on the remainder of the car - hardly sanding
I would not recommend this for a car you plan on keeping.
Always good to have an opinion from someone with first-hand experience.
Does Maaco allow you to bring ur own paint?
Nice bro I like that boss up work with what you got
Nice bro
My first car was a 1982 280zx. I loved it. Miss that car.
You’re a hero
My first car was a 71 510. Probably a megabuck rally car somewhere after I gave it away. I had it Maaco-ed and they did a pretty nice job for my purposes. Even with a color change from baby vomit butterscotch to canary yellow, I soon after blackened the B pillars and trim.
Started as a patrol car , ended up as a unmarked patrol car
ended as marked up patrol car.

Butter face.. everything looks good butter face. Lmao

They can easily fix the foreign matter by sanding that small area and spraying it.
i don't know if they would actually redo any of it. they'd have to scuff/sand the bumper again just to get a small missed spot
stonent that’s what I was thinking too. That’s pure laziness on their end
Its not that easy
For real I'd also tell them to buy me new headlights. It looks like they just did a half fast and lazy job. Id loose it. Idk all you do is paint cars that's your business. So why all the fuck ups.

You sound stupid lol
For real man I agree 100% it's false advertisement. Id loose it if that was my car. It don't matter if you notice it or not, the thing is, is that I would notice it. I'd do a better job with some spray cans and youtube lol and the fact that I give a fuck. Obviously they don't so I guess that's the price you gotta pay. I'm a diy kinda guy so I would just do it myself for a fraction of the price
@68Camaro RS/SS these prices really put it in perspective... for a fifteenth the price on a car worth less than $2000 it's not that bad

$73,000
A four cyl is likely trendier so $22,000 for an Accord.
20 year car: $22,000 + 6000 maint + 36,000fuel
$64,000 if you can keep one car for 20
$105,000 if you are on your second car after 12-25 years.
EVs will just charge you $58,000 - $70,000 up front. Then very expensive repairs out of warranty later and no aftermarket parts. 2 miles per kW so 8 cents a mile via your home outlet. 20 cents a mile via fee chargers.

But what is the point of the “color change” fee if they didn’t paint the door jams? I though that was the whole point of it…
The quality of the paint job looks good but I question the quality of the paint and how long it'll last
bigggmustang73 It’s straight enamel, so it will fade quite rapidly. An acrylic enamel or urethane paint has UV protection and would last longer. For $499, this is what you get.
If the paint job makes it to two years, then you got your money's worth.

100% correct. We had a Scheib job done on the Family Truckster back about 1980. My dad spent a week doing all the prep. People said how good it was for a Scheib job. It was not a great job at that, but it made a car look better for a few years when a replacement car was out of reach.

@@nonyabidness6492 Like I give a rat's ass about what you doubt.
Maaco painted my 95 Honda Del sol. I was very happy.
That was me I did all my prep work my self and took it on a trailer there, I taped up so there wasn't over spray underneath, Got the cheap paint job factory color again, I was very happy and it lasted the 4 years I had it then sold it
Michigan State Police Blue.
"Superior Blue" or Royal Blue as Ford called it. Paint code "LM"
See them often. Beautiful color
Just needs that bigass ugly red dome light on top now
I like Ford Sky Blue View, 😉.
Looks exactly like a 500 dollar paint job
yeah minus $400
@@rageagainstthetoymachine2410 You show me to paint like this for 100usd.....stop your bullshit already, always YT wankers like you on with 0 validity.
@@MichelLinschoten Look up Moore Motorsports.
Looks like shit. Get a real phone or computer and you'll see.
Bass Rutten
I agree brother.
Do they still do this $500 special?
I will be perfectly honest here. That is the best $600 paintjob ive seen so far. I have a Ranger pickup truck that I paid what I thought was a reputable guy twice that amount to repaint it and it looks 10 times worse than that. You got a hell of a deal man nice score
Paint jobs always look better on camera than in person.
The warranty is 5 foot or 5 Seconds whichever comes first.
Once knew a man who was so cheap he painted his own car with a paint brush and leftover house paint. No lie, he left brush strokes.
I’m going to try them out this month hopefully all goes well
How was it
Tbh these are good for decommissioned police cars
The last car I had painted at a custom shop was $8K and that was in 1999. Now it's $15K.
Wow
Rick Uyeda wtf?! You could buy another car for that price? Does Beyoncé blow me in the shops vip while i wait for the car?!
You might as well buy a new car for that price.
just got a quote that said the same.
0/10
That or they never properly sanded it, which is probably more likely.
One thing I'm surprised you didn't have them paint the door guards instead of leaving them black.
is it a good paint job? nope. is it as good as you're gonna get for $600 most likley
@@JoeHynes284 - $20,000?? Go smoke some more crack.
Thank you for taking the time to make and share the video definitely appreciated.
As a painter, those imperfections are unacceptable to me. I could never give it back to the customer like that. It doesn't take THAT much longer to properly tape and protect areas from overspray.
Had my car painted at Maaco a few years ago. Only complaint is they left the inside covered in shop dust when i went to pick it up.
I remember earl shives any car any colour $49.95 when i was a kid in the 60s
Riiiight. I think he'd growl, "I'll paint any car any color; no ups and no extras." Last name spelled, Sheib. Big in Chicago, IL. USA
70s kid here, I think it was up to $99.95 by the time I was old enough to pay attention to the commercials.

@@LordPrometheous what is it now 399.95 lol
AA Cars, Computers and Technology!
Do you know how much respect you just got from me for the music you put at the end of the video? Instead of that garbage hip hop and other BS people usually put, you had that sweet guitar in there., props man props!!!
I lived right down the street from you🤣 was actually thinking about taking my 97 cherokee there for a paint job. Nice to know what to expect if I do
I think they did a good job for the price you paid. I would pay that all day long for a paint job that well done.
You get what you pay for. I had this done on a 96 Ford escort when I was 17. It will fade but because there's no clear coat it's very easy to buff.
Yea buff off lol 😂😂😂 never buff single stage
They should give you back your money and then some for all the good PR you gave them. I buy and sell VICS and would be happy with this job on one of mine.
Maaco is franchised so each franchise will do work differently i suggest visiting a store a few times and look for different finished products. There are some nightmare stories from maacoo
Let's see how happy you are with the appearance after say 12 months!
Dear god yes he needs a long term follow up
We definitely need a long-term follow-up
Yup.lol
@Joseph Taras if you're getting $500 paint jobs then $500 is a fair bit of money
@Joseph Taras those shouldn't be anywhere near $500. And yes you're right, good paint jobs are expensive. That doesn't change the fact that most people getting a $500 paint job at maaco are spending quite a bit relative to what they make.
Check out state police colors here in Michigan
I painted my crown vics there also and I was impressed
What kind of car did you get and how much did the final payment come out to?
MomO CarmonA Crown vic lol , and I paid $500 for the first vic I painted and then I paid $900 for the second one cuz it needed boxy work
Why didnt you kept the factory blue? The new blue you have is great.
I think its great. Most people on here have no idea what it takes to paint a car. Hell the paint store will cost $500 for the paint to do it yourself.
william staten lmaooo someone’s got no experience
200 for my paint and clear
Very nice! I hope the car serves you well. :)
Anybody old enough to remember Earl Scheib?? Home of the $299 paint job. 😂
Yes formal customer here. These place serve a purpose for people who don't drive expensive cars and don't want to pay 1000 paint jobs which comes with better quality paints(PPG) and clearcoats.
Looks great! Most of the overspray issues are easily mended.
Thanks for making this, I've been wondering about this for a while.
But i must ask: is there any bias?
If you do your own prep work they can lay the paint on pretty nice. I had a 79 Monte painted 15 years ago. I did the prep and sanding and removed headlights, tail lights, taped off some moldings and chrome. It came out pretty nice $914 total (presidential) I think it was. I sold it to a freind and The car still looks good today.... not a daily driver though it's kept in a garage.. but hey...15 years later.
Need to do an update every 6 months that you own it.
I got the 899 special I'll tell you what to expect, the wrong color
The Maaco in Canton Ohio right off the highway North Canton area told me they had my color on the Shelf 1998 Audi platinum silver I was willing to pay for the paint expense it's not your average silver looks like Chrome in the sunlight I got a Chevy Gray with two pounds of metal flake epic fail
My clear coat was a mess ,flaking off on the hood ,roof ,and top edges on the side , i sanded all that myself , alot , then had macco repaint it , @ $370 . Im happy . It looks good .
when you hit 60MPH, the paint comes off
I doubt it but if u drove gravel roads it would probably chip right away in a week .. I’d rather repaint my truck for that price every 2,3 years once it hit 9,10 years old
I looked up maaco paint jobs because i want to paint my crown vic and this was the first video to pop up, what a coincidence!
