This is how effects reviews should be done
YES! Ppl just put all settings at noon as if it was an amp... why?! But this is perfect, different basses, different applications, trying to dial the tone into useable sounds, just perfect!
Totally agree
He did a great job with varying applicable styles and put them together seamlessly making it a mini composition of a one bar sample- really compelling presentation. It makes it so much easier to distinguish the distinctive sound each (pedal brand) is going for at the same tuning levels. What a boss!:)
Dude. Some pedals obviously needed more input.
Gain/volume matching is needed
moral of the story: everything sounds good with a jazz bass
@Tacitus Kilgore eh its a pj bass
I think you meant to say Ernie Ball Music Man Sting Ray Bass...
@@ML-nj4qi just say stingray you fucking nerd
@@ML-nj4qi bro I also have a sting ray bass, it's pistachio colored
@@ML-nj4qiNo.
I won’t lie I think the first one sounds the best
I love that EH Big Muff compared to others, not only because it was able to keep the original sound character of the bass, but also the ability to pulled out the tonal accuracy.
The Joyo does very well across all sections of this video. Also the EHX and the TAFM. I do like the Hartke, but it's sounds like quite a drastic EQ shift.
Great video. The $30 Voodoo Octave Fuzz sounds surprisingly great
The Big Muff and the MXR Bass Fuzz consistently had the best tones throughout all five demos, followed closely by the Duality. They retained the low end ridiculously well while maintaining note clarity. The Joyo was surprisingly not that bad given its price and that it's designed for guitar. The Hartke was thin-sounding and muddy at the same time.
The Hartke sounded like a pretty decent overdrive to me.
Thin sounding? Or mid forward?
In your opinion....
I liked the big muff and the Hartke the most, all the rest was very much meh
If I’m tryna play some anime music what pedals are best (╹◡╹)♡
Awesome, really love the hartke sound
It really stands out above the other pedals.
agree!
Agreed!
Right?! I was like “man, I don’t want a cheap pedal to sound that good” but it killed
In my opinion that Hartke just sounds more like a distortion pedal than a BASIC fuzz
They are so different from one another, it's so cool to hear the differences.
Yeah, I was surprised with each kekek
I think the Electro-Harmonix Bass Muff is the best for it's price! Awesome demo Chris!
I agree, it's the more consistent in a band context with build quality, unbeatable for the price... Nevertheless, it's really not the best. Try a swollen pickel from way huge ;)
@@lessingesnus I have both and they are super fun especially together.
This is really true.
I actually prefer the EHX Green Russian to the plain Bass Muff.
This was probably the best review video I’ve ever seen. That Joyo is surprisingly good
I would probably go for the Hartke or the Aftershock, both sounded very consistent. The Hartke seemed to have a personality of its own, very musical and "punchy" so to speak. The Aftershock seemed the king of versatility for me, because apart from the fuzz mode, which works incredibly very well in comparison to actual "fuzz-only" pedals, it also has two other modes. Mindblowing really.
So happy to see the Hofner in the mix. I play Hofners exclusively and rarely do I see gear demonstrations using them. Thank you!
Quality view, Wide scope, Realistic selection for test basses; This is a helpful review. 10/10
My Favorite - The EHX Bass Big Muff
The Hartke pedal reminds of Geezer Butler’s bass tone during his little solo parts on the song “Slipping Away”
Thanks so much for putting this together. It’s insane so few people put together a comparison showing the same parts played across different pedals, let alone running through multiple comparisons on different basses!
Nicely done, really useful. So interesting how different people's ears/taste are. Not only do people have strong feelings about their favs but the reasons for their choices and their observations on the tones are often so far apart.
I was drawn to the big muff and the source audio most but could imagine having fun with all of them
Hartke on No One Knows sounds very close.
this is all I ever wanted. thanks for such a perfect demo!
Hartke and muff are clear standouts, thanks for this vid sir
I know this is an older video, but just wanted to say this is a great comparison simply for the amount of pedals it includes. Some of them are so different from each other in character it's hard to pick a favorite. The Harke, BigMuff and Terminal standout to me, but they are all so different. Thanks for this!
Thanks for watching my bass fuzz shootout! If I had the funds at the time here are some other cool fuzz pedals I would have added to the shootout: Aguilar Fuzzistor, Zvex Mastotron, Way Huge Pork & Pickle, Earthquaker Cloven Hoof. Enjoy!
I have the EQD Cloven Hoof and it’s off the charts good with a bass as well as guitar
Aguilar has some nice pedals : )
I really enjoy this video. The comparison of the pedals is great, nice playing. Muse bass line was dope
I bought mxr fuzz deluxe and the big muff ...Thank you for sharing with us! 🤘🏼💀🎸
BASS player here, I'm on the hunt for a fuzz and your sound clips made me GAS for Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. although the Terminal has a unique sound. Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us.
Yes that Terminal is very different.
This is a great way of reviewing pedals. No nonsense whatsoever!
The Big Muff sounded the best to me. Great review!
The Earth Quaker was just so down and dirty. I love it.
Big Muff and MXR for me. Thanks for the great video Chris!
I like the lighter toned down fuzz element on the mxr. More like an edge than a hard blown-out sound.
That was the best demo I've seen
Finally a really good Pedal Demo!
Great video and great playing. I can see that the big muff is legendary, but I liked the terminal as well for its synthiness.
Best shoutout I’ve ever seen! Thanks!
you were teasing this idea for ages , great video :)
Dude, that Hartke is fire!!!!!!
If bass could sound like a bug...Terminal! If bass fuzz was surgical...MXR! Loved them both. Thanks for this great comparison video!
This cured my GAS. The Big Muff totally holds up against all the other pedals.
Fantastic video man!!
I know it's a one-trick pony, at least for bass, but the Terminal sounds really good to me.
Suuuuper synthy - woulda been better for TIRO than Hysteria - still, I dig that for a sometimes sound, rather than a workhorse everyday fuzz
@@davedixon2167 Definitely works well for Time Is Running Out! I've moved on to the Source Audio C4 to play that song now but I feel like this cover still holds up
ruclips.net/video/J6xv-EIREqQ/видео.html
SMH compressed, thinnest eq band + muddiest sound imo. Totally lost in the mix. It's all upper mids w no poke or articulation. Just imo
Now that’s the effect reviews! Nice job!!
oof, that hofner bass is a beauty! great review, love the format thanks
Superb review video and great playing!
Really great demo. I am learning about fuzz, so this was very very helpful. Nice to hear the different tones from each one. I think for me it was the Big Muff and MXR. Thanks for sharing.
Wow man! Great review and playing.
Thank you for making this!
Love this format bro! subscribed!
Very helpful. And very good song choices
Good job ! my fave is the MXR for the moment..
Everything up to the big muff id great. + aftershock. The cheaper sound is sooo cool!
I've just got my first bass effects pedal a Big Muff Deluxe and it is very good, but this video was brilliant 👏
Nice playing. I think you make them all sound pretty good.
Yeah, the Hysteria test ! Good job, thank you very much !
Awesome demo. \m/ my personal favorites are the hartke bass fuzz, the source audio after shock(especially since I own one), ehx bass big muff nano, and the mxr bass fuzz deluxe.
Great demo, thanks man, was very usefull.
MXR Bass fuzz deluxe is my go to pedal on my board. It’s pretty much perfect.
Excellent. And damn you’re a killer player mate 👌🏻
that big muff and aftershock was killer
Very very good demo...Way Huge Conquistador is the best for me!!
Great demo
Excellent review
Great review, thanks a lot!
I can't believe how good that Joyo pedal sounds!
beware of the compressed sound, i guess the risk to diappear in the mix or to start a volume war with your guitarists is pretty important with this one
I like your methods. Well done.
That was very helpful. Thank you.
Bass Big Muff for the win (for my taste, of course)!
I've had a few of those and by far, the cheapest one.. Joyo Octave fuzz REALLY gets it done. Made me venture into more cheap pedals that I've been very pleased with an easy on the wallet.
Suprised by The Joyo! It's a very versatile pedal for it's price tag.
Big Muff and the MXR were the best, with my winner being the Big Muff!
The joyo and team awesome sounded great
The joyo, the conquistador and the fuzz machines are the winners for me
Usually im not a muff fan, but the bass muff sounded the best in my opinion! Very sick.
The Hartke gets my vote. It had a balanced tone and good clarity
Amazing bro thanks!
Love that Audioslave riff
I dig that Hartke and Source Audio the best
Hey very cool video, congrats bro! I liked =)
MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe was not on my radar at all...it is now. Thanks!
Surprisingly my favorite was the second one. Second would be the way huge conquistador
The Hartke really stuck out to me each time, so it was a pleasant surprise to scroll back and see it was one of the cheapest too!
Edit: I listened again on speakers with better bass. Ended up getting a bass nano big muff pi, very happy with it
The hartke is definitely my favorite
Don't you like fuzz ? ;)
cool transparent distortion, definitely one of my favorites
Hartke and Way Huge Conquistador Fuzzstortion are my favourite, Earthquaker is also interesting
Very nice fuzz on bass shootout! The first guys I heard effectively use buzzy bass were Mel Schacher of Grand Funk and Tim Bogart of Vanilla Fudge in the later 60s (yes, I'm an ancient) - both were probably just heavy overdrive as the growl was rich with plenty of bottom to do the work of bass! Squire came along with his BrassMaster bite (which was bit much for me, but killer for him!) And Geezer Butler and Bootsy and Larry Graham and so many more - and then Chris Wolstenholme of Muse stood out from the crowd! I think of all these sounds when I test bass fuzz effects. And I always try to find a pedal that can let my Ric bass ring through, but also add a nice overdriven guitar sound along with the base sound - a hard goal to find! I like the Hartke pedal best - rich, full and not just another angry mosquito!
Duality fuzz just killed them all. Very impressed.
Classic, consistent in a mix or band context, certainly one of the best options - but the swollen pickle from way huge is missing in this video, i guess it would have been the winner
Came across this video while researching to get a bass fuzz. Thank you, good sir, EHX nano bass muff has the best balance between low end retaining and price, will get one soon!
The Terminal sounds like it would nail the "Time is Running Out" sound. Out of all these I think the TAFM and the EHX held their own the best across these tests but I think the Aftershock was kind of undersold since it has so many options that sound a lot better than the stock fuzz tone.
I am pleasantly surprised with the Hartke❤
I love the low end of the hartke
The Big Muff sounded the best to me.
Thank you to this video.
Wow! On the humbucker one I might've liked the $30 fuzz the best!
Nice video!
¡Great review! Thanks.
I liked the Terminal pedal for its very specific sound, Hartke stood out as well. EHX and MXR were very close to each other sound wise with Muff being a little better of the two.
Honestly the bass fuzz delux and the big muff sound so Good . I think I’m getting the big muff since I already have the mxr bass delux
Nice job.
The mxr all day long. Great pedal
For me the MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe and the Big Muff. Particularly I have a preference for the 2
I have an MXR Bass Blowtorch and a Triangle Big Muff that I really like.
Love the selfies 🤪
Superb video!!. For me I would choose the Hartke or the EHX. With regards to the synth pedals, please try EHX Mono Synth, Keeley Synth 1, Source Audio C4 Synth & finally Boss SY1. 😀😀😀
I think the Hartke maintained most of the low end frequencies, so that was my favourite for bass. I have the Aftershock, which has a lot more going on than the setting you showed. I used to use the Joyo, until I moded it to death
