The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Been watching The Jimmy Dean Show. What a fascinating dynamic person he was. That show is wonderful to watch - long lost Americana.

Jimmy had a nice voice. I remember as a child listening to his record, 'Little Sandy, Sleigh foot.' A touching Christmas song, for little and Big Children.. Big John was a hit, also.

A very nice version indeed. In Europe, this song is associated with Johnny Cash, whose version did very well in the charts there (no. 4 in the UK), in 1972, four years after Jimmy Dean released this as a single.

Jimmy Dean, an interesting career to say the least! Started out as a country singer, TV show host, acted on the Daniel Boone show, and even had a bit part in a James Bond film. His greatest claim to fame of course is his success as being the SAUSAGE KING with Jimmy Dean Sausage.

@@softyme63 The gospel album “He Touched Me”, contained a few songs The Imperials recorded first. This is one of them.

I really like seeing what you will post each day. I don't recall ever seeing this video of Jimmy Dean before. I know you concentrate a lot on the '60's pop singers, and I'm really glad you post them, but I do hope that eventually you will also post more of the '50's pop stars as well, especially Teresa Brewer. I'm a little surprised she hasn't been posted yet since she was on Ed's show more than any other popular singer.

      I agree Tom
Stuff from 1954-63 was the best years in my opinion :)
      Can’t be Teresa Brewer

@@RCALivingStereo 1954-1963 is also my favorite period of pop music. Thanks for the support! Maybe if we keep requesting occasionally, they will post more of the great artists of that time eventually.

Nice. Elvis did it best, he just had a better voice, but Jimmy was good. Enjoyed him always.
