This was the first fighting game I ever owned, brings back a lot of memories. At the time I thought it was amazing. Look back it is truly awful! Still, back then anime wasn't as big of a thing in America, and I loved how exotic and different this game felt.
Without the Ranma- gender insta-swap , the story element and driving force of the humorous Manga/Anime is simply ruined , , , why did they bother with USA version at all, , , ,that censorship Roadblocks the story , isn't Rumiko Takahashi supposed to have Artistic control over her IP as game releases ???
The music is so good in this game. I remember I got this game from a candy store arcade that sold used games for like $5 dollars used, the Japanese version. I had to get a converter to play it. I played the hell out of it.
Only time I finished this was with the panda in 1994. It was the first time I played it, was at my uncle and aunts house. I tried playing it recently and it turned out to be pretty hard.

Yeah it's...out there but it worked, which is why he has this chimera form when he gets splashed by water. As for his name, that's actually the driving force behind his character. An old man named Happosai was around to help his mother to give birth to him. Unfortunately, he's also a very raunchy and perverted man and...well...gave him that name. He's been trying to get changed back ever since.
If this game had been released in the US by Irem with the characters replaced to make it a sequel to Street Combat, what kind of animal would Tyrone from the first Street Combat have become and what would the plot for the game be?
It looks pretty bad, but at least they managed to include some of the fighting styles and personality of the source material. And honestly, 10 fighters isn’t that bad for a fighting game made barely after SF2.
In fact, there were 13 fighters, you could unlock the two versions of Pantyhose when you beat the game and there was a cheat which you can unlock Happossai. Great game in my opinion.
Games like this make me wish I had an SNES. I would love to have a fighting game based of Ranma 1/2..... even if Ranma's voice is awful. By the way, I love how they actually called him Pantyhose. Considering that this is an SNES gamethey could have just called him Taro, but nope, Pantyhose! I love that!

The weird voices seem to stem from the voice samples being extremely bitcrushed and compressed in order to fit on the cart. Some companies did this really well, but the localization team definitely did not do a good job here, and as a result, it ends up sounding bad. The actual dub is completely different than what the voiceovers in this game were. Interestingly enough, original copies of the game also included a volume of the manga.

The third game wasn't released outside of Japan, but it looks and plays quite a bit better. EDIT: 3 fighting games, but I just remembered there's an RPG too, which is also Japan-only.

Nope. His name is Pantyhose Taro and he was named by Happosai, the secret final boss of the game (You only fight him if you choose Pantyhose or his Cursed Form). His story is that he wants to change his name to something other than Pantyhose. In the manga, he decides to change his name to Awesome Taro.
Ranma fell into a cursed spring sparring with his father while they were on a trip to China - Ranma is cursed to turn into a girl when hit with cold water, likewise his father is cursed to turn into a Panda.

For 1992, it seems quite good. Both graphics and combat gameplay are decent. Jumps are not as floaty as the first snes game. Controls are decent too.

@goduskychris Chris Godusky Street Combat was an adaptation to another Ranma game. This one actually did make its way to the west.

The japanese dub is way better as they used the voice actors from the anime which was on TV at the time.
