- Its Day 3 of the early may sowings. Today its all about the corn. This tasty treat stores so well in the freezer that there is no need to worry about a glut. Easy to grow, its fantastic to plant in your growing spaces.
I agree, can't beat fresh corn 🌽😊
When every window sill is full. When every table is covered. When even the coffee table is shunted nearer to the light. When the spare bedroom looks like Kew Gardens. YES : Marbles can be lost. (& I have no greenhouses or polytunnel only a tiny back garden to a terraced house😂❤)... Roll on Spring!
😂😂
I think we all feel your pain. When will this weather realise its May
Not doing corn this year, attracted too many rats 🐀 and squirrel 🐿️ populations, plus it’s super cheap, here to buy fresh from our many local farms. Happy growing, Ali 🌤️🌧️🥶🇨🇦
🥰🥰
Always grown Swift…love it. Got a free pack of Golden Bantham so not sure whether to try that too…took on the plot jointing mine last year so spent autumn/winter putting up a tunnel, beds, arches & a fruit area. So thinking I have room for both? Enjoying the channel 🎉
Thank you ☺️
Give it a go. So long as its a distance away. If you have an allotment that the wind mainly hits one direction then plant it so the wind dosnt blow across the two into each other. I staggard mine one in the bottom corner then the other in the top opposite corner. So it would be more difficult for the pollen to reach the other varieties.
Do you blanch your corn before freezing or prepare it some other way or do you just whack it straight in the freezer.
Just pop it in the freezer as is. You can even leave the leaves on. Helps with freezer burn. But I remove the husks and fill freezer bags. For extra protection and much longer storage. Wrap the cobs in an extra layer of clingfilm to protect against freezer burn 👍
sweetcorn my best for many years is swift lots of cobs sweet grows well in blocks give them ago you will not be diappointed
We used to grow swift for years in the garden before the allotment. It does grow very well. 👍
