I ran 4 of these with 12 Atomic Thunder "Aftershock" 15" svc and achieved a 167.7 certified spl. We were running them at 16v with 3- 3ohm voice coils per amplifier in an extreme 1985 gmc safari. The Mark I 200dhc and the Nexus Lion were identical. Bob upgraded the mark ii (output fets I believe) and changed some thing small for the phd2 (Shredder). Power output was nearly identical for all 4 amplifiers leading me to believe that all upgrades were to mitigate failure from low voltage. Great power from a relitively small footprint in a time when 2400 watt amplifiers were taking up seriously real estate.
These are the amps I drooled over back in high school in the early 2000’s. Thanks to big d wiz for the great videos. And also thanks Jason Neal that gave you this amp to test.
There is also a switch on the board that disables the subsonic filter and allows lower frequency notes, may want to test with that enabled and disabled, for comparison.
I helped run the dB Drags in South Florida that year (Circuit City was a sponsor/host). I vaguely remember the car running an Earthquake amp (same car was at a few of the dates), because our only dealer in WPB at the time was an indoor flea market shop. He sent us a lot of his customers for installs.
Dang! 2500 watts from that thing @ 1 ohm! I wasn't expecting that after the rest of the tests. Thanks for the video Big D. I enjoyed it, as always. Looking forward to the next one!
Earthquake has great stuff, not too much on their amps of today, but their subs are top notch and have more xmax than any sub in their price range. 2 dbxi 12s with around 1500 watts will meet or beat your expectations on what 2 12s should sound like.
A friend of mine had an earthquake setup in a mustang back around 1991 and it was amazing, it was the loudest I had heard at the time. I didn't hear louder until another friend put 4 15" Savard Rap running off a (Zed) Crunch 250 in little Mazda B2200 truck in 1994. I ended up with the amp but I gave it to my brother who got me into car audio, he still has it and it's the jewel of his collection.
I have an old 400tx supposedly made in 1996. I bought it as a parts and repair for like $60 and I did recap it but the issue was the TL594 which caused it to go into protect, the fets were all fine I did upgrade the power supply fets to a little better ones. I also didn't have a 594 to replace it with but after looking at the datasheets for it and the tl494 I used one of those because I had quite a few extras. It is also like 10 lbs earthquake didn't skip on the high-quality aluminum in those days!

I ran (3) PH-D5000 at 1 ohm for several years in my hearse on (12) Memphis 15" HPO subs. Earthquake support highly recommended that I run them at 1 ohm saying that is the impedance that they really performed best at. No lie there. Never had an issue during the 7 year run with them.
Never been a big fan of EarthQuakes amps (usually kind of unimpressive) but there subs have always been where they shone. The HoLee S line and Subzero lines where and still are made in the states (sub zero using some foreign parts) and the low profile front hung SWS line are some real preformers. Even there cheaper on lines aren't half bad for what they are.
Used to have one. Even got the upgrade in person at there location. Wish I’d kept it, but wife and kids 🤷🏼♂️. Stick with the audio pit and save tons $$$
I ran two of the Earthquake PHD2 amps on four Earthquake Magma 12's back in the day. I still have the amps and picked up two more for an Old School Build.
I still have a 12in Magma in a 2.5 ported box. I've been using for over 20 years. Never had any problems with it, and it still gets stupid loud! It's the original version that Earthquake made, with duel 3ohm voice coils. And even 20 years later it's stiil a beast.

Hey man love watching your Amp Dyno videos. Could you possibly do a Dyno run on an Earthquake Sound Mini d2500.1 v2. I'm a huge fan of Earthquake but can't find much in its actual power rating. Your help would be much appreciated.
Earthquake is still manufactured here in the Bay Area in Hayward. One shop in San Mateo is owned by a guy who is 70 years old and he pretty much only sells Earthquake.
I’m still trying to dig out my oldschool Lanzar 500 and 240. These had the old Hollywood 30’s style dont. These were built I think in the same factory down near Chatsworth where autotek and HiFonics were made. I’d like to see how they do if I can find them. I saved them cause they were in great condition and had the original boxes.
The original Lanzar were made by Zed Audio (yes, same as the old Rodek, Hifonics, ESX, Autotek, Crunch 50, etc. etc.). They should make close to rated power, they will not make more "dynamic" power and they won't benefit from high voltage in since they are regulated power supply. Also the Zed amps typically do not like running below rated impedance. Some years ago you could actually buy refurbs off the Lanzar website for super cheap and I had a bunch of them at one point. The good ones say "Made in USA" on them, later versions were far east manufactured but the same design, later Lanzar has been very hit or miss with mostly junk and a few good ones.
Hey Big D i got an old Mtx Thunder series 942 i bought new it just smoked the other day i wont name drop but it was a lansare quality sub could u tell me where u have ur amps sent off for repair possibly?

That’s beefy for an older amp. I still miss the days where subs all pretty much looked alike amps look alike and most ran sealed enclosure or BANDPASSES so you couldn’t hear the distortion right before you blew the subs or Woofers I should say by comparison to what’s out now. But we appreciated what we had and we were happy. Been a while since I heard a sub in a sealed box about a year ago with my AP 3000.1 and a pair of Kove Armageddon U2 18’s a pair. Makes me want to go sealed with my solo X subs but I like when I hit that 18-28 Hz note.
I'm still up for offering my repair services dude, seeing as how everything has gone postal now! Haha... And of course, you'd get it back! I got sooooo close to winning an old American amp with needle type VU meters just because of you! xD I did get a surprisingly good Sony (of all companies, i mostly hate Sony!) amp that has LED VU meters though, it was running on my living room wall driving my monitor speakers for a couple of weeks! That always gets funny looks lol just finished repairing a few home amps i acquired cheap (Rotel RA-820BX and RA-840B! Plus an RA-611 i had lying around for a while, finally got to fixing the preamp and setting the idling currents for all of 'em!)
Would have loved to do the repair for you though! Thing is "upgrading" the value of caps isn't always a good idea.. In this case it'll likely help as that thing is designed to be overloaded, it seems! Reminds me of Rotel, everything is usually under-rated and understated lol they are very good at doing "wire with gain" amps.. I believe Rotel/Roland/Rank is also Boss Audio, explains why i like a couple of amps of theirs i have and repaired!
When that amp came out, it literally shredded speakers , and fast. We only sold ground zero nuclear subs just to handle that kind of power when running 2 zubs.
Hey BIG D, the Orion Blue Book showed this amp rated 1300X1 and on your dyno at 2ohms it was 1378, so my guess is someone that was in charge of the advertising screwed up on the specs or something. My cousin worked at a stereo shop and gave me a killer deal on 2 of these when they first came out. I put one in my 88 Hyundai Excel and it stopped working and I ended throwing the other one in to replace it. My cousin had told me it had probably blown the internal fuse so I held on to it and was going to check and switch it out. Well it ended up in storage and I just found it and decided to open it up and see if the fuse blew and the 30amp blade fuse is still good but I notice one of the same caps in the middle is loose one of the wires popped. Where could I send this to get re-capped and what would it cost me roughly?
Hey Wiz, Back in 2000 or so Shaq had a SUV tricked out with an Earthquake system. I want to think it was featured in Car Audio Mag. The install had like 9 15” Magma subs in a big hexagon enclosure, if memory serves me right I believe they were powered by bunch of the PHD2 amps. The truck was Superman themed? Someone chime in if I got this half way right. I’m getting old! 🤷♂️🤦♂️🤪🥊

I do remember that and have the magazine here somewhere
Actually pretty badass at 1 ohm. If you were using it burping. for what it is
Had 2 of the next gen D2's on 3 JBL GTi 15"s. Ended up selling one and ran it at 1 ohm. Didn't if have an unregulated power supply?
