Have you guys tried the new z man frogs and if so what do you think I bought a few and they walk very easy in my experience. I am relatively new to freshwater fishing only about 3 years but I fished the intercostal waterway for 25 years. Just wondering your opinions. You guys are great and I really appreciate what you do. Thanks for your time.
Seriously brothers, appreciate all the tips, tricks, and time you guys put into your videos. I’ve learned so much from y’all. Best channel on RUclips. Googan squad? Never heard of her.
Hey Tim, great vid as always. Question: what rod would you recommend for kayak fishing for frogs? I think the 7’ 3” and up is a bit long....sitting in a kayak, I don’t have as much distance to the water from the rod tip to the surface as boat guys. And I can’t stand in my kayak. So I’m thinking 6’8” or 7. Do you have any experience frogging out of a kayak? What do you use? Thanks!
I finally got some chases and attacks on my frog that I had no clue how to use, I suspected I was overworking it and you've shown me that I probably was. I also wasn't even walking it, mostly because I was trying but this standard lame frog was pretty hard to make walk right, especially without it coming into shore way too fast when trying to do so...I need better frogs...probably also need a different gear setup but I can make due for now, just need...more frogs that actually walk.
i just got started frog fishing and i love it and have had great success other than missing or not a good hook set and I've tried bending the hooks and actually got better results afterward but might be my medium heavy action rod. Do you like or use Spro frog baits ? How do you rate Spro baits , i would really like to have their new black frog and i like a popper i found cheap at wal mart and it walks great to , I caught my new PB yesterday on the popper frog fishing open water they love that popper frog
How about the Loomis GLX 7' 1" XH JWR for froggin? Or the 7' 5" XH JWR? Neither have the full cork grip though. Is that imperative or can a split grip do just fine? Obviously the expride is a little more affordable was just wondering if a Loomis fan could use either of those two rods or if the action on the expride is preferable. Thanks! Really enjoy y'all's channel!
Okay, so this evening I was fishing a small area with a little bit of Open Water surrounded by hydrilla coming out of the water. The fish were blowing up on the frogs. Like real frogs. Not exactly sure what color the real frogs are, but I threw a white sprinker boot tail frog, and they weren't interested. I just got a bully wa 2, but for the life of me I can't walk it. It's little Alan color. What else should I try to get their attention? This was of course when the sun was going down.
The open water frog with the legs like wings works a lot like the heddon crazy crawler but without the treble hooks i use the crazy crawler in open water outside the grass the only thing is they nolonger make the crazy crawler !!!!!
Didn’t cover the water clarity/ color choice. My lake in SoCal is covered currently with a green algae bloom. Any suggestions? Keep up the good work guys!
Man, I feel like I’ve been failing bc I use anywhere from 6’ to 7’ ugly sticks with open face reels for bass using frogs but it has always worked for me.
Bare with me! I'm asking this before watching whole video. Bait (say a frog) don't react differently depending on whether your using a spinning rig or a baitcaster, do they? For instance, if you had the same line, same length rod, same action roughly etc.
Tim. I’ve now bought 2 loomis rods in the E6 series trying to find a frog rod. Just so stiff it’s hard to keep a good walking cadence. Any loomis suggestions. All my rods are loomis so I’d like to stay with one brand if possible
Guys, I know I asked this before to no avail and I don't mean to pester but here it goes... I've been wondering if it is necessary to trim the long middle tail on the Jackall Gavacho. It looks like you did this on the Chartruese Strike Gill from this video. Can you shed some light on this? I'm trying to figure out the best way to fish these with optimal hook up effectiveness. Thanks so much!
You know, I've tried both and I'm not convinced it's necessary. If you're getting short strikes, definitely chop it. If you're not, I think that long tail adds a different element that helps the frog stand out from the crowd.
@@tacticalbassin Thankyou so much for the reply!!! That's kind of where I was at with my train of thought as well, but just wanted to be sure. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer! TB is the truth!!! Cheers guys.
I'm 5'3 and use a 7'4 MH. Also fish out of a deep V (not sure if they sit higher than bass boats) Not the most comfortable to fish with all day but I like the amount of line I can move when I swing. Also use a terminator walking frog. Can walk it way better than a spro and does a little better than a bully wa in denser cover
I often can get blow ups and what not on a frog but they seem to miss it a lot. I've tried different colors and trimming the legs down. Doesn't seem to happen as much on a popping frog. Do you think maybe I am retrieving too fast? I've even had it happen while I'm walking them. I don't have many huge bass in my area but still. You guys are great by the way. Love everything you do. Thank you!
Im new to baitcasters and i cant cast far and barely at all with a stiff rod. Would I be alright throwing a frog on a medium action 6'6" rod with heavy braid if I'm not fishing nasty thick cover?
Tim, you mentioned your son, I am trying to teach my nephew all while learning as much as I can from you and Matt. Could you fellas do a video covering teaching kids or newcomers to fish??!! I'm always worried I'm doing something wrong or that I could do something to dampen his excitement. Any advice would be wonderful!
if that's not a topic they can get to soon enough, Flukemaster did a video last year on the topic. Kinda basic but at least helps with ideas to add excitement while learning the basics and not chasing them away.
Hey Tim I was curious about depth ranges for frogs? Typically for me my cut off has always been about 10 to 14 feet of water. How deep do you think you can walk a frog and still get fish to come up and hammer it?
I'm 5'7' and i use a 6'7'' med heavy fast with 50 pound braid but I live in Colorado so our cover is not that thick either or at least we're I fish and Colorado bass tend to average around 1 to 6lb fish so I tend to stick to smaller frogs around the 55 size..just seem to get more bites that way
Fished the Nokia sneaky frog on mats today and did really good. Slimmer than the spro king daddy but almost as heavy. Plus it walks like a spook. I look forward to the first frog bite of the year more than any other bite. Sometjing about working it, knowing where you should get a bite..twitch....twitch....and still getting suprised! Plus the braid sound. Doesn't get much better. The new tatula frog rod with all cork handle is a beast!
Just used the live target the last two weekends in Az and man im a bleiever. Used to be straight spro. Not anymore except the spro only tourney at havasu. But i thought the love target walked incredible. Will be adding that bully wa 2 to the arsenal tho.

Great rundown. I’m fishing lilypads and subsurface weeds in Orlando lakes and ponds. I avoid mats, but now I won’t. Need a heavier rod and braid. I throw max of 30Lb braid. Lost all my lilypads fish hitting my frogs the other day. Sucked. But I think my med-fast rod didn’t have the backbone to really set the hook in the bigger fish thicker cartilage. Thanks so much!
you'll laugh but i've had success with 20# sufix832 braid. sometimes i'm too lazy to cut my 12# sufix mono leader as well with no issues. i'm even able to get away with it on a MH fast action rod. yeah i wouldn't recommend, but have never had issues especially using a lighter braid like sufix832. when it comes to strength and reliability there's no comparison, sufix832 is king over maxquatro or seaguar smackdown...not even up for debate. i agree...those livetarget frogs are on top of the market. they're so damn good.

Hi Tim. Thx as always for the vid. Question about conditions. I always fish top water (buzz bait mostly) early morning or late evening or cloudy days where I can find calm water. What about frogs? Same? Or do they tend to work during the day so long as you have vegetation?
Hey guys. First I want to say thank you for everything you've taught me these past couple of years. 2nd I fish from a Titan kayak, live in NE FL and need a shorter rod for frogging and top water in general. I like the lids on your frog box, I have issues with trapping moisture and getting surface rust on my hooks. Did you do that yourself or is that something you bought?
The longer legs can lead to more short strikes... where the bass hit the legs and miss the body. Shorten them up and they key in on the business end of the frog better.
Tim, I have finally gotten my hands on the Teckel Sprinker Frog, and I need to get some advice as to hook placement, normally I have to bend hooks out and up a little but the Teckel I have the hooks are out about 1/8th of an inch but is perfect as far as up and down. After watching this video this seems as if it would be ok, yes or no . ?
Hey guys! Tim, fantastic video as always... I'm a big frog guy and I've adopted all of the TB techniques. I have one question that I think I may have figured out from this vid. Is there any place in yalls boxes for the traditional style frogs that just have kicking legs ( frog imitating rather than skirt material)? Also, Im glad you mentioned rod length as it pertains to the size of the angler. Unless Im slinging a C-rig or crankbait it can be cumbersome for my 5'5" frame to reasonably use a 7 and a half foot long rod with techniques that require twitching the rod.
I was wondering if I should use a steel leader with my frog cause where I fish it has a lot of pike as well and I'm not sure if they would hit a frog but I feel like they would
derty_rabbit when it comes to heavy cover frog fishing 7.1 + I have used 7s but I use 8.1 just because I can get them coming to me you want a 150 to a 200 spool size reel just because it’s a work horse reel you are wanting something that can take a beating
Any tips for froggin with a spinning rod? I have a lews 7 ft medium/fast action taper and a 6.3.1 reel. I've been fishing lunkerhunt frogs for about 2 months and had maybe 10 blowups but have only landed one fish 🤔
I know this channel is dedicated to Bass but is there any possibility we could one day get a general purpose fishing video in regard to lures? I found this channel years back when I moved from the Gulf of Mexico coast to Iowa. Where I'm from everything is saltwater fishing but Iowa surprisingly had a lot of Bass ponds, since than I've moved to North Dakota there seems to be no Bass here at all due to the extreme winters (-30/-40 for months) they can't survive it and that seems to be the reason why no bass. I've talked to wild life about it when they stopped me one day and he said they use to stock Bass but they would all die over winter and after years of trying to establish them they just gave up. I still like these videos I just get a little salty there is no Bass around here but I mean I also know a lot of ponds have more than just Bass so you will occasionally catch something else. That's all I'm looking for just decent general purpose lures and baits you've noticed other species of fish besides Bass tend to hit.
Like Airforce Angling and Tim mentioned in the video, the Live Target frog is probably the softest straight out of the package, but I do really like the spros too. One thing I do to get a consistent softness is boil them for a bit...straight-up boil some water and let them cook a little...It really softens them up. You can also just let them cook outside in the sun on scorching days but boiling speeds it up nice and legitimately helps with the plastics consistency.
I see you don’t have any frogs with the realistic hind legs to them like the lunkerhunt frogs you see everywhere. Is there a disadvantage to those that the ones with the strings for legs don’t have?
For added weight and noise I add some BBs in via where the hook comes out - low cost and they last. Also I have upgraded my stock frog hooks to Trokar and they work great. I think a design that comes over the back vs. along the sides gets better hook-ups. Thanks for the video
I use a med heavy rod with braid. And yes it helps with snags, but more importantly, the braid has no stretch for the hookset, so wait till you feel the tug before setting the hook, which is where most people, myself included, fail to do.the braided line is also superior for abrasion resistance when fishing heavy cover compared to mono. But you should still check it periodically for frays. Also once you get a fish on, especially in heavy cover, they will dig into the weeds, this is where the heavier rods and braided line shine. I fish a lot of duck weed, and most times the weeds weigh more than the fish. But i can land them without without the line breaking, losing a $10 lure, but MORE importantly, the fish doesn't break my line and swim away with a lure imbedded in it to possibly die from that. I release them to catch another day. Good luck.
You guys are awesome. I learn so much.
best fishing ever

That rod probably doesn't have enough backbone to set the thick wire hooks. You need at least a medium heavy
@@marcusyoung2870 I'm on the hunt for a decent medium heavy rod
Rooster tails will catch anything tbh
So when would you throw a frog as opposed to a fluke? As far as open water or weed edges?
Do you sharpen your hooks when it comes to frogs fishing?
Yes sir!
Oh hey 6:30 am. Love this time of day
Thoughts on the Spro frogs? They are my favorite but I did notice lately an inconsistency in the plastic softness
I been a spro guy since they came out. But tried the live target the last 2 weekends an the hookup is incredibke with how soft that bait is.
@@jonathanpearson2410 haha i can just leave them on the front deck of the boat here in Az when uts 115 and quickly soften em up
@@northernbassalliance1442 Haha yeah that doesn't always work up here in northern Indiana!!
I see you don’t have any frogs with the realistic hind legs to them like the lunkerhunt frogs you see everywhere. Is there a disadvantage to those that the ones with the strings for legs don’t have?
so you tie directly to your frog or ever use a swivel?
No swivel, will weigh nose down making it less weedless
Finding these frog vids very informative, sharing these for others to check out. Tight lines!
@Tacticalbassin, for kayak fisherman do you still recommend going down a power in rods for frogging also?
For added weight and noise I add some BBs in via where the hook comes out - low cost and they last. Also I have upgraded my stock frog hooks to Trokar and they work great. I think a design that comes over the back vs. along the sides gets better hook-ups. Thanks for the video
Anybody know if the Jackall Kaera Frog topwater hollow body 2.2in 1/2 oz is good choice ?

I would like to know if anybody tried this frog before .
At 3:03, Can someone please tell me the Brand of that first frog.
is the only need for a heavy action rod and braid to have the strength to get out of snags?
Good luck.
