Just come across this review, having recently taken up golf it’s helped me make up my mind on the S12. Hopefully it can help me hit to ball straight too 😄

Great comparison overview. I like S42 on the wrist, phone with GHIN app for hole overview before teeing off. I like the smaller footprint of the 42 and it clearly gives all the info you need while playing.

Thank you Average American. I started with the S42 originally, I really like it. The Bushnell Ion Elite does give it a good run for it's money though if people are looking for an alternative (full review coming soon)

Hi Kevin currently have s42 watch which i am pleased with, however i have experienced problems with autoshot detection on several holes at my course. After numerous phones call to Garmin quite annoyingly aswell as they asked for a plethora of information. Notably asked to ask another individual to wear and hit a golf ball whilst wearing the watch on their lead wrist to see if the issue was present. Nothing had changed with another barage of questions to finally upload a video of myself wearing the watch and hitting a golf ball. I provided this information and finally received my replacement. Albeit the replacement watch is behaving there are still issues with non autoshot detection on some holes.

sorry to hear that Raj, sound like a painful replacement process 🤦‍♂️

Not pleasant experience despite being a good brand. I hope the replacement watch functions properly as i do not want to go through the same demanding questions as experienced previously.

As a weekend golfer, would you recommend an S42 or an Apple Watch with a golf app?

    • @GolfGuyReviews

Tricky one. To get the same club tracking data on a decent Apple watch app you’ll have to pay a subscription.
If you don’t want to pay any extra, ONLY want yardages to the green and maybe some hazards if you’re lucky, have a half decent Apple Watch that will last more than 6 hours in gps usuals (my series 2 a few years ago couldn’t but my series 6 handles 18 holes no problem) then stick with the Apple Watch.
I’ve tested a fair few golf dedicated watches now, and none of them (not even the $1800 Garmin MARQ come close to the everyday usability of an Apple Watch), but dedicated golf watches have far better battery life and golf features that won’t crash your watch….so it’s really about how much you’re comfortable spending on a non-essential item.
If it were me, I’d probably start with a free Apple Watch app like golf shot or 19 hole, try the monthly subscription features, and then decide from there.
      Hope that helps 👍

Is the 1 button thing awkward on the S42?

I've never found it awkward, as the menu system works well with the touchscreen in this model 👍

I was lucky to try both the S42 and S62 but definitely the S62! Newer technology, better screen, easier to use and I don't care that it looks big on my tiny wrist. If you are on the course saving time for better shots is essential

I agree the S62 is the better watch, but there's a lot of features that many won't need, and at an extra £200ish compared to the S42 (which is often on sale), some will value the saved money one the additional features and hardware of the S62.

DO NOT buy the S42 since the one button functionality means every time you swing your club, the button gets depressed by your golf glove. You will spend more time fooling around trying to get back to the right screen and hole and less focus on playing golf. Worst design I have ever seen. Obviously people reviewing this watch are not going out and playing 18 holes or they would report this MAJOR design problem.

Thanks for watching Moose. I play several rounds with everything I review, I like to think it’s something that stands my channel out compared to others. I probably used this watch for 6 months before I filmed my review. as it was the first golf watch I’d ever bought.
Yes the button can occasionally be accidentally pressed by your glove, but it has never been an issue for me, my friends who have also used it, or the hundreds of people who have commented on my review.
Perhaps the combination of your body and swing exaggerate the potential for this issue?
Equally, all three of these watches have a button in the same place, it’s just other two have more, so I’m not sure why the S42 would be unique here?

I'd like to add I used the S40 for over 2 years and never found this problem! For reference, I wear it on my left wrist, and I am a right handed player

The first 2 look like cheap versions of a Samsung watch
