Fun fact. I wasn’t a cheerleader, but I was in high school when this movie came out. I lived in San Diego. It was filmed in San Diego. The extras are actual cheerleaders from local high schools, including mine. You can see a bunch of them in the background at the end, in the green and white uniforms. And they are standing to the left of the Toros on the mat.

Dallas Cowboy “Cheerleaders” are basically pom girls (at my school we had cheer squad and pom squad. We did stunts, tumbling, chants etc. while pom girls had pom poms danced and did turns etc) both cool...just not the same.
they’re a drill team, not a pom squad there’s a HUGE difference. they’re known as cheerleaders be it’s the NFL. drill team is isolated to texas, so anyone outside of texas doesn’t know how to actually refer to them.
Nicole Smith they’re not publicly referred to being a drill team, but that’s what they are. drill team isn’t a huge thing outside of our state so it’s not a nonchalant thing to call them if that makes sense? but when you watch them like she says it’s clear they’re not cheerleaders but dancers, but that’s all you’d know to call them is dancers if you didn’t know better
My coach called me Smiles because I had the best expressions on the team. She'd always have me run the routine solo and be like "look at Smiles, SHE doesn't look like she ate a rotten fish, she looks like she's having a good time and PERFORMING!" I was also a theater kid, so I was used to having a smile/keeping up my emotions while dancing. My sister was Legs McNally, both during cheer and even now in our local community theater circle, because she's tall and has built leg muscles from being a competitive Irish dancer and dance teacher
I used to be a competitive cheerleader but got dropped from a basket toss and broke my arm and hurt my back after Been unconscious for a few minutes . After I recovered the coach told me that I couldn’t cheer anymore because I was a flyer and I had already gotten replace. I cried for about a month because i was too small for any other position 😭 turned out my stunt group was trying to get rid of me because they where threaten by this girl (we will call her kate) who lost the tryouts against me and told my stunt group that if she wasn’t the flyer she was going to ask her dad to not let my group compete (her dad was rich and was planning to remove us from the competition). My team had been working very hard and was looking forward to the competition. The plan was originally to have me “mess up” so I wouldn’t be the flyer. ( btw i was having a little trouble that season and was kinda behind the team since I got sick, perfect opportunity for the Kate to accomplish her plan) unfortunately it didn’t go as planned and i ended up getting hurt (as you already know). My stunt group and teammates later confessed to me and told me the story and asking for forgiveness. I forgave them and told my parents. They were going to confront Kate’s dad about what she did to me but she changed states and she kind of disappeared. A year later we see her competing with another team and that’s when we find out she was only using our team so she could get ahead. I was traumatized by my experience and couldn’t compete again so I just went to my teams competitions and cheered for them of the sideline. That’s my story thanks for reading ❤️
my backstage ritual was to sob as quietly as possible and force an unfortunate member of my stuntgroup to continuously stretch me literally until the minute we went on the mat while i whispered to myself all the things that would go wrong
I'm from a public Filipino highschool and we had really amateur cheerleading and I agree... winning second runner up or even first runner up when you're so close to champions feels so shitty compared to when you win a place lower 😂😂😂
I always felt that even if they had a better routine than the clovers, I don’t think the judges would’ve awarded them first place because of what happened at regionals. It would send a bad message. Probably me reaching, but I think they realized they could not be there at all and that’s why they were ok with second.
I always felt that it was because they realized that they never really deserved their past wins because it wasn't their routine, it was somebody else's. So they were finally competing against an amazing team AND with their own original choreography, so they were proud that they even got 2nd because this was their first time basically standing on their own.
@@aliadriftI thought that too. After learning that all your routines were of someone else's. Becoming the new captain of that squad. Going into regionals with another routine of another. Starting over fresh. to comeback from all that is a great feeling and inspiration. though they came in 2nd they stood against the best team. respect for that.
I never did cheer but I did competitive dance and my backstage rule was to never ever rehearse and go over things back stage. If you don’t know it when you’re waiting in the wings, you’re not gonna know it on stage. I would just chill out and crack my toe knuckles a bunch.
We did Bring It On as our school musical last year and Oh Boy was it a struggle. 40+ actors backstage that had to learn to cheer, rolling out mats mid-performance, etc... but it was pretty successful!
not to rant on main but cheerleaders deserve so much respect and if anything more respect than damn football players. i can't stress enough the talent cheerleaders have and the work and effort they put into their routines and dangerous stunts they do to please the audience, but yet people don't take them seriously because they think it's a 'girly girl thing'??? nah sis it's an ATHLETE thing. in conclusion i respect cheerleaders so much and i was i could do what they do. damn i'm jealous
I can remember us using some rather inappropriate songs & cheers back in the 90s. Not as in your face with language & stuff, but the songs had lots of innuendos & references to illegal activities. The cheers were a little more innocent, but not completely.

Dallas Cowboy “Cheerleaders” are basically pom girls (at my school we had cheer squad and pom squad. We did stunts, tumbling, chants etc. while pom girls had pom poms danced and did turns etc) both cool...just not the same.

they’re a drill team, not a pom squad there’s a HUGE difference. they’re known as cheerleaders be it’s the NFL. drill team is isolated to texas, so anyone outside of texas doesn’t know how to actually refer to them.

My choreographer called me "long legs" cause I was the tallest girl on the team
My coach called me Smiles because I had the best expressions on the team. She'd always have me run the routine solo and be like "look at Smiles, SHE doesn't look like she ate a rotten fish, she looks like she's having a good time and PERFORMING!" I was also a theater kid, so I was used to having a smile/keeping up my emotions while dancing.
My sister was Legs McNally, both during cheer and even now in our local community theater circle, because she's tall and has built leg muscles from being a competitive Irish dancer and dance teacher

I used to be a competitive cheerleader but got dropped from a basket toss and broke my arm and hurt my back after Been unconscious for a few minutes . After I recovered the coach told me that I couldn’t cheer anymore because I was a flyer and I had already gotten replace. I cried for about a month because i was too small for any other position 😭 turned out my stunt group was trying to get rid of me because they where threaten by this girl (we will call her kate) who lost the tryouts against me and told my stunt group that if she wasn’t the flyer she was going to ask her dad to not let my group compete (her dad was rich and was planning to remove us from the competition). My team had been working very hard and was looking forward to the competition. The plan was originally to have me “mess up” so I wouldn’t be the flyer. ( btw i was having a little trouble that season and was kinda behind the team since I got sick, perfect opportunity for the Kate to accomplish her plan) unfortunately it didn’t go as planned and i ended up getting hurt (as you already know). My stunt group and teammates later confessed to me and told me the story and asking for forgiveness. I forgave them and told my parents. They were going to confront Kate’s dad about what she did to me but she changed states and she kind of disappeared. A year later we see her competing with another team and that’s when we find out she was only using our team so she could get ahead. I was traumatized by my experience and couldn’t compete again so I just went to my teams competitions and cheered for them of the sideline. That’s my story thanks for reading ❤️

I always felt that even if they had a better routine than the clovers, I don’t think the judges would’ve awarded them first place because of what happened at regionals. It would send a bad message. Probably me reaching, but I think they realized they could not be there at all and that’s why they were ok with second.
I always felt that it was because they realized that they never really deserved their past wins because it wasn't their routine, it was somebody else's. So they were finally competing against an amazing team AND with their own original choreography, so they were proud that they even got 2nd because this was their first time basically standing on their own.
@@aliadriftI thought that too. After learning that all your routines were of someone else's. Becoming the new captain of that squad. Going into regionals with another routine of another. Starting over fresh. to comeback from all that is a great feeling and inspiration. though they came in 2nd they stood against the best team. respect for that.
I never did cheer but I did competitive dance and my backstage rule was to never ever rehearse and go over things back stage. If you don’t know it when you’re waiting in the wings, you’re not gonna know it on stage. I would just chill out and crack my toe knuckles a bunch.

We did Bring It On as our school musical last year and Oh Boy was it a struggle. 40+ actors backstage that had to learn to cheer, rolling out mats mid-performance, etc... but it was pretty successful!

not to rant on main but cheerleaders deserve so much respect and if anything more respect than damn football players. i can't stress enough the talent cheerleaders have and the work and effort they put into their routines and dangerous stunts they do to please the audience, but yet people don't take them seriously because they think it's a 'girly girl thing'??? nah sis it's an ATHLETE thing.
