Loving watching all your videos. I kept many cage and aviary for many years. I spent many years mutating zebras and I managed after about 6 years to breed a pure black, I was over the moon. I've not had birds for about 10 years now, but I'm really starting to miss having them and your videos are helping. I may even start up again
Another good video, man. Congrats on the babies. I love seeing zebras other people own. They are beautiful, but I can't stand their constant monotone chirping. Sorry if that comes across as me being negative. I love how beautiful they are. It's just the noise level was too much for me and I sold all mine a long time ago. Beautiful tho. Thanks. Look forward to your next post. Take care, man.
First give them warmth to help them preserve their body heat. After it’s important to try and diagnose if they are sick from mites or from some sort of infection and would need an antibiotic.
Is it ok to move the nest lower after the eggs been hatch the birds are 7 days old was pondering if we touch the nest the finches would abandon their duties
It depends on the species. For zebra finches the parents will fight with the babies especially when they are trying to breed again. Also your babies will breed together once they are mature if they are kept in the same cage.
Once they have built a decent nest and start laying their eggs then I usually pull out the extra nesting material. Once the chicks are ready to fledge the nest I add more nesting material for the parents to build again for their second clutch.
I have to zibra finches and they been laying eggs but they don't hatch and I'm not sure what's going on. Can you help with a tip or something. Thank you
My zebra finch layer only one egg and the male and female are taking turns sitting on it. When the baby grows should I separate the female and leave the male alone with the baby finch? And how long should I separate them?
You should be fine to leave the parents together to raise the baby. Only if the paraents start plucking the feathers on the babies back while they are still taking care of it you can separate the parents and leave the male with the chick until it is weaned. then you can place the pair back together for further breeding.
I know this is old news, but you are really good breeder with them, I have zebras and I am planning to breed them pretty soon. Nice video am so blown away of how you look after these birds. Spot on !🐦
I have one female and male I have no idea what to do when they have babies? What does everyone do with them? Do you separate them after the babies are ready and grown?
Hi, birdnerd. Recently had a female society finch and a male zebra finch gifted to me. Both are about 8-12 weeks and they get along. Singing, dancing, cuddling and turning tail feathers towards each other. If I put a nest in cage will they continue to get along? Cage is 62" high, 24x24. Thx
Hi, thanks for your video. If I keep 3 pair of Zebra finch in one cage will make any issue. My cage like you the Chinese cage I think 1 mtr long and 1/2 mtr width. Thanks
hello chris it is me again my mosaic chick is 24 days old and it didn't get that red color i want. i want to ask you what color dye u use for ur birds and at what time u give the color dye to gain a nice red color, i bought versele-laga patee that contain red color dye what you think about it too ? Thanks again!!

@@kusko_0112 Yes I would feed it to them after they eat. I can't remember the brand that I use off the top of my head. but I bought mine through ladygouldian.com
Sir i have some question from you I also have same pair like you but my finches not going inside in breed box they always mating but not interested in nesting and not going inside in breed box... I try all possible breed box like pot, wooden box but not get any results what to do??? Plz give your suggestion
My finches are breeding but when they hatch babies they kill them And I don't know why my female lays about 6 eggs end eats them and she incubates only one !
I have seen people tame their finches but it requires a lot of time. Of your wanting to hold or pet your bird I would recommend getting a parakeet or a cockatiel as they are easier to tame.
Give them a couple scoops of egg food each day while they have chicks. Egg food is hard boiled egg with the shell drag veggies like Romain lettuce and carrots. Blend all of that together and give to them. Also make sure you keep fresh seed and water daily for them to eat as well.
Curious.. I have a pair of zebras raising a clutch of 6. oldest is about 2 weeks. The male is starting to puck feathers from the baby. He did this with the last clutch as well.. there were only three babies with that clutch so putting nesting material in the cage worked fine as he worked on it instead of pulling feathers from the babies. This time there is no room for him to start packing the nest with nest material. I did put a second nest in hoping he'd focus on building it but he hasn't. I have separated him but like you, I'm concerned about leaving the hen to raise a clutch of 6 on her own. Hoping you might have some advice.. thanks so much!!!
Yeah that is a common issue with the zebra finches. It sounds like you did everything correctly. If the hen is feeding the chicks I would keep the male out. Make sure you provide lots of egg foods for the mom and babies. She should be fine to raise them in her own. Just make sure to give her a much needed break when the chicks are weaned.
I had one pair, they builded nest successfully, and mating also. But more than 3 weeks ago after mating, but still they did not layed egg. Why? Please help me.
If you have more finch eggs than you want to hatch - the African Egg Eating snake is having a surge in popularity. Unfortunately, the hatchlings eat finch eggs, which are very hard to find. If you pull the eggs from the nest before the embryo starts to form (in the first day since laying) and put them in the fridge, there is a market for those eggs.
I love egg eating snakes but finding their food is very hard. So zebra finches breeders who have a surplus of eggs are definitely valuable in the market specially since a lot of people would like snakes that don't eat rodents. They usually end up eating quail eggs once they are old enough. I know someone who breeds them and has zebra finches breeding as well so that he can use the eggs for the babies.
Give them privacy. They should incubate the eggs once the eggs hatch you can provide chopped hard boiled eggs with romaine lettuce daily with fresh seed and water for the parents to feed to their chicks.
I need help my first chick hatchd today but 2 hours after the birth he died,i dont know what was wrong i didint See the female feed the chick and the chick was laying on his back one or two times. The dad is 1 And a half year old and the mom is now 9 mohnts old i dont know what was the problem.(is was there first chick ever) 😪
It could be due to inexperience. Also I would advise not disturbing the nest at all when chicks have first hatched and are under 5 days old. When chicks are newborn and small the parents many times flip the chicks on their backs to feed them.
The babies are so cute!
Thank you

Yes they can definitely be a little annoying when it comes to their chirps and calls. I don't know if I could have them in my house because of that.
Its funny because my sister in law loves their chirping. I think its the kinda of thing that you either love or hate lol

Question! Can the parent finches live peacefully with the babies even when they’ve grown up?

Hi where are you located
How can I get some black cheeks in the USA?
Future if u put the divider in u could let them go down again as its there nature male will still feed through bars
I have three pairs in the same cage , i put three plastic nests there will the mate or its necessary to seperate them
As long as the cage is big enough to house all 3 pairs together. They should be fine and should mate for you
WHAT FEED YOU GIVE TO FINCHES?
Where do you get the lights? Do they connect to each other?
Most English finches need fostering so what's your secret, are they hybrid or do you pair them with European finches?
I have one female and male I have no idea what to do when they have babies? What does everyone do with them? Do you separate them after the babies are ready and grown?
Yes separate them from the parents so they don’t fight or try to breed with each other.
Where are you located?
I have searched for breeders but there aren't many in my area of Virginia.

Once the birds are mature it can take up to 1-2 months for a new pair to bond, build a nest, mate and lay eggs.

For zebra finches both the male and the females with have black cheeks. For the orange cheeked zebra finches only the males have them.
