    Oh man, how did I miss this in my subscription box?! One of my favorite Final Fantasy IX songs, somehow made even more enchanting! Love the buildup at the beginning, beautiful use of woodwinds and strings at 2:09 as well! Great work as usual, Rebecca! :)

    • @RebeccaETripp
      @RebeccaETripp  9 лет назад

      +ChrystalChameleon Thank you so much! There actually isn't woodwind at that part. :3 What you're hearing is a choir sample with some very pronounced tremolo. The effect sounds a lot like quivering flutes, though.

    • @RebeccaETripp

      +Geekanomicon I, too, have had a lovely morning- apart from one thing. It started beautifully. My entire village is covered in a thick frost, almost like snow. The pale dawn sky casts a blue glow over the houses, as smoke rises from the chimneys. There is not a single soul outside, but lights are on in the windows. A seagull flew over and cried- and that is how I know it will be a good day. Seagulls always cry on my birthday and Christmas, but not very often in this neighborhood, as we're too far from the river, or any restaurants they attend.
      The bad part came a moment ago. A tiny fly (a fruitfly, maybe) hopped up onto my keyboard and landed right where my finger was about to press. I crushed the poor little guy, but didn't kill him, as I managed to stop myself- only too late. He is able to move, but not properly. I feel awful, and I actually shed a couple tears. :3 I thought you would sympathize with this feeling, as well as appreciate the aesthetic of the BC morning I'm enjoying.

      RebeccaETripp You asked for it XD...
      Well it was March of 2001 and I was nine yrs old. I was out of school for Easter holidays and I was spending the next week n' half at my grandma's (she's a die hard rpg fan, you would adore her). Now I love my Nana, but I wasn't excited about spending my entire school break time at her house and not with my friends.
      Well I arrived at my Nana's, not too happy i'll remind you, and proceeded into her living room to greet her and to hopefully find something amusing to do. She was sitting in front of her tv playing video games. Not unusual, I had remembered that she loved Zelda games and others like it. Which was cool but not really the kinda of games I was into. So I sat beside her to watch what she was playing.... Well I was immediately impressed with the quality graphics and the battling, as I don't think I had played a playstation yet(come from a poor family, you see). I continued to watch her play it and I became increasingly fascinated by what I was seeing.
      So after about an hour of watching her, she said I could play if want. _Big mistake Nana_ . I barley put down the controller for the next 10 days :). I was enthralled by the story and the characters. Zidane, in particular, was someone who really resonated with me - A kid of lowly circumstance who was none the less always upbeat, who had an unbreakable morale compass, and who could always be counted on to be there when his friends needed him. I imagine Nana was irritated by how much of her vidya time I was taking up but she was never let it show. She gave me little hints and things here and there without ever giving too much away.
      However by the end of my stay I had only reached the 3rd disc..... and I didn't own a PS so borrowing the game was not an option.... it was a real bummer :(. So I had to wait till summer vacation to return and finish my quest. Unfortunately a cousin deleted my save file by accident, so when I did come back to Nana's I had to start my game all over. But it didn't bother me, I enjoyed the second play through _almost_ as much as the first. But alas, it was time to leave again and I still hadn't finished the game. I had received a PS for my b-day a few weeks before and was praying that Nana would let me take it home with me. So I asked to keep the game(with a promise to keep the discs scratch less of course) and to my glee, Nana obliged.
      To my pleasant surprise, she gave me two additional games that she thought I might enjoy; Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross. Two fantastic games that I would also come to love immensely.
      Thus is the story of how I come to love rpg games. It all started with Final Fantasy IX and my dear Nana...
      (sry for this *ridiculous* wall of text, it's an influential and emotional story for me and I don't know how to tell it a different way XD)

    • @RebeccaETripp
      @RebeccaETripp  9 лет назад +1

      +The Self-Made Man That was an incredibly beautiful story. :') Thank you for sharing! And that sounds like the coolest grandma in the entire universe! Obviously, you were meant to play Final Fantasy, as cheesy as that sounds. Simply put, those stories, that music, and everything else about them is incredible, brain-sculpting artwork that can instill morals and compassion, inspire creativity and interest and bring so much joy to so many kids. Your Nana is a wise lady. ^_^ And she has AMAZING taste in games, apparently!
      Damn that cousin- but new files on FF9 are always great! I just started one the other day. I always show my friends that game, if they haven't seen it yet.

      I remember I played Link's Awakening when we were visiting a friend of my mom's, and I liked it a lot. When, a long time later, my mom finally gave in and allowed me to have a GameBoy Color, and she saw I wanted to have Link's Awakening DX, she almost refused to get me the game because the cover showed a sword, therefore it's clearly the most violent game ever.
      I guess that and Pokémon were the only games apart from old point&click games I'd played when I got a FF7 demo for PC and wrote a review saying it's a lot like Pokémon, because that was the only other RPG I knew.

      +RebeccaETripp And in my farthest dreams, it came to me, the Melon of Light! Lo! Behold its glory! For in the darkest depths of reality, a beacon of light came forth, and guided me away from the darkness, from the sins of existence, the hollow sadness of life, and it embraced me, as I embraced it, and such was it's colour of Holy light, that I could do more than gaze at it's utter beauty, for it was not only a thing of beauty, but a thing of pure delish!

      +RebeccaETripp I'm simply a level 6 Melon, you at least must be a Level 34 and a half (and 3 quarters)! However, i've heard that once you pass Level 50, a bizarre, if not frightful, event happens, and you can chose to join the Shadow side! But lest that happen, everything you own glows with an ominous red glow...
