To explain why the Season 5 Opening for Yugioh was animated so well. There were a lot of production problems with Season 5, and most of the staff left including the main series animation director. But before leaving, he put his all into the final Opening and Ending.
He did come back to be the main animation director for the second and third movie.

The way the first half of GX is is very light hearted and silly, and while it does have its serious moments, they're usually followed by a goofy filler episode or two to return to form.
Then, halfway through the show, the tone does a 180, established, core characters start dying off left and right, jaden goes full depression and permanently fuses with a demon. Only for the final season to be about the half-demon jaden having a duel to the death with a god of depression and apathy that has systematically killed everyone on earth because they're too happy and emotional lol.

About the Arc-V openings, don't know if you haven't noticed but there were some 5D's characters, hence the return of Riding Duels from 5D's in them for an arc.
But in general, Arc-V has a multi-dimensional gimmick of visiting worlds based on each type of special summoning.

    Fusion Dimension (based on GX)
    Synchro Dimension (based on 5D's)

Yugioh shows go one of two ways:
    1. They start off serious and retain that same level of seriousness pretty much through til the end, aside from more light hearted filler episodes (5ds, Vrains, DM).
    2. They start off light hearted and can be a bit silly at the start, but then get more serious and darker as the show goes on, ending off much darker than their more consistently dark counterparts (gx, zexal, arc v)

Yugioh Zexal is pretty much the season that has had the best animation production out of all the seasons, especially for a weekly anime during it's time. With some hella talented people on board, which sadly most of them never coming back in the later seasons. And then Vrains being the last season Gallop would produce for Yu-gi-oh before it being sent to Studio Bridge.

Arc V is prob the darkest in the series by premise alone, it tricks you in the beginning making you think it's going to be all light hearted but that takes a complete 180 by the time the first seeds get planted when we are introduced to a particular character. The mc even has a "evil side" where his hair goes more unkept and spikier with red eyes and his personality is completely sadistic and this ties heavily into the plot of the series and plays a major role going forward towards the ending, Protagonist in a twist actually kinda becomes the villain and reason is because he is actually a piece of him.
Honestly i was taken back when watching Arc V it really surprised me with how many twists and turns it took and kept keeping me guessing what was going to happen next.

He became a very dark and moody person finding little joy in things (he suffered PTSD from his corruption to the dark side), jaden does reclaim himself somewhat but he becomes a very serious duelist and just wants the fight to finish quickly with minimal losses. His deck also changes to reflect his no nonsense approach to quickly overwhelm opponents while defending himself with shields. Although the deck contains sheer firepower cards that can be pulled in an instant if the need arises.

the story of arc-V is that very far into the future when monsters become real due to the ARC(Augmented Reality Combat) system(apparantly they didn't learn from all the other times monsters became real) a duelist named Z-arc(the "supreme king" of arc-V era) kinda went insane after he started to be more and more brutal to satisfy his bloodthirsty fans who asked for "MORE ACTION MORE TAKEDOWNS MORE BRUTALITY" every time Z-arc dueled and after a while he decided to duel "the whole world"(as he was tearing apart the world he said "whats the matter guys didn't you want a more brutal duel?") he almost destroyed the world but a girl named Ray came in and used 4 special spell cards to split the universe into 4 dimensions each dimension being a different era those dimensions are Fusion(DM and GX) Syncro(5Ds) XYZ(Zexal) and Pendulum/Standard(the present day) and Z-arc was reincarnated as 4 kids they are Yuri(the british sociopath from the Fusion dimension) Yugo(the hotheaded dork from the Syncro dimension) Yuto(the edgelord from the apocalyptic wasteland that used to be the XYZ dimension) and Yuya(the main character)

With Seven’s and Go Rush!’s new gimmick to the game franchise being a separate format called Rush Duels which is essentially early Yugioh with some changes to spice things up, such as the unlimited normal summons, draw until you have 5 cards each turn, a new summoning method exclusive to the format and a spin on fusion summoning.

1:29:26 Their VRAINS Avatar Form? I always liked their digital avatar forms. Yeah, VRAINS is basically a virtual/digital world so each character will have their own civilian form in the real world and their own custom-made avatar form in the VRAINS world.
Anyway, each gimmick for each series of Yu-GI-Oh!
    - Toei's Yu-Gi-Oh! - Mostly it's own thing. Does dark, twisted games. But you know that.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - Egyptian dark magic.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - School dueling academy. Further emphasises on the use of Fusion Monsters but other than that, doesn't really have unique gimmick.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's - Riding Duels (or Turbo Duels in English) and introduces Synchro Monsters/Summoning.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal - Kind of space-themed, I would like to say. Introduces Xyz Monsters/Summoning.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V - Multi-dimensional / Multi-Worlds. Introduces Penulum Monsters/Summoning. The dueling system the Standard Dimension has is Action Duel which uses Holograms w/ Solid Mass technology to make holographic monsters feel solidically realistic. In the Synchro Dimension, they do Riding Duels but without the Speed World stuff from 5D's.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS - Virtual/Digital World gimmick where each character have their own avatar form that are different than their civilian form and the dueling system done in the VRAINS World is Speed Duel which is similar to what the video game Yu-GI-Oh! Duel Links does, makes duels quicker with each player having an activatable Skill. Introduces Link Monsters/Summoning.
    - Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS - Dueling system in it is Rush Duel which removes some dueling restrictions to make duels go by faster.

Thanks for using the playlist I recommended. My social anxiety kicked in when I saw this video, but thankfully you didn't mention me.
It seems you heavily prefer light-hearted Yu-Gi-Oh openings over the serious ones.
GX and 5Ds do in fact have the original author do designs and basic premise, so Jaden Yuki (or Judai Yuki) was made by him.
And yeah, all the series get really dark near the end.
Not to get too much into spoilers, but GX has Jaden think he killed all his friends for a season and turning into a cruel dictator until he is cleansed of darkness after which he falls into depression.
5Ds has a character explode with his motorcycle and the bad guys are time travellers trying to prevent the extinction of humanity from their future.
Zexal has multiple characters turn out to be spirits piloting corpses of dead children, and one character suffocates when the duel cracks his space suit on the moon.
Arc-V has dimensional genocide, and serious depiction of PTSD from survivors including a little girl who has a flashback of everyone she knew dying.
Vrains has all the main cast being kidnapped and experimented on when they were kids which the plot revolves around, and it ends on the main character having to kill his best friend.
Even Sevens has the preschool hero sacrifice himself at the end by leaving his friends behind and throwing himself and the villain into outer space at light speed.
Which will lead directly into series 8 Go Rush which currently has three episodes out and takes place thirty two years after Sevens.
    God I love this franchise!
So yeah, murders of the original manga are pretty tame in comparison, the rest of the series just leave their true faces for the later arcs and all but 5Ds and Vrains start out for little kids.
Original series and Zexal have the most impressive in episode animation too, not in Duellist Kingdom though, that arc is not actually digipaint, all traditional, but it's really stiff except for the duels in the castle.
It's at its best in the awesome Virtual World duel of Kaiba vs Noah in episode 115, and yeah that whole arc is filler. So what? That episode is my and my sister's favourite in the show.
I am surprised you made it through the Battle City slog, but dropped out in the way better Doma filler arc. To each their own.
Zexal actually looks good more consistently than the original series, which had some barely animated and badly drawn episodes, and all series have some great animation even outside those two, but sadly for GX all the great animation is in season 1, with 2, 3, and 4 being some of the best in story but by far the worst in animation.
Anyway, here are Sevens opening 2: ruclips.net/video/7lNVUsUy9gE/видео.html

Arc V is pretty much split dimensions. The world is basically split between 4 dimensions, Fusion, Xyz, Synchro and Standard. That's why the character designs are so vastly different. And why you'll see returning characters like Edo, Kite and Alexes in the series.
Vrains is Virtual Reality. Heck the entire name of it stands for Virtual Reality Artificial Intelligence Network Systems. All of the action is done in the virtual world so of course some of them would alter their appearance to protect annonymity, I guess unless you're Kirito lol. Not a bad video over all but I dunno, some of your takes seemed unfair due to nostalgia from where I was watching. The video was awesome no lie but your take on ZeXal vs GX was strange. You said you didn't like the first opening of GX because it seemed too happy, but when ZeXal did it you were infinitely more happy lol. I guess it's the colors? I dunno just seemed like you were nitpicky on one over the other which is humorous as most people prefer not to ever think about ZeXal.
Editing to add, I can definitely see what you mean about the motorcycles in 5D's sometimes the CGI didn't look the best but I never minded them. Remember that it was made in the late 2000's, the CGI for a lot of this stuff was still new but I could tolerate it more than the Stardust Dragon roar in the middle of the 3rd opening of 5D's

Zexal was the peak of Yugioh animation, with the best staff at the studio working on it.
Arc-V soon fell apart after the first season, with the writer losing the plot, and the director obsessed with the glory days. And the animation suffered because of it.
Vrains' animation was just enough, but never the minimum highs that Arc-V reached, since it's starter budget got sacrificed for the final dozen episodes of Arc-V.

So you know 4KIDZ RUINED the shows with the dub, the Yu-Gi-Oh dub is infomuse for compltly censoring reediting and changing the story for every Yu-Gi-Oh season, heck they blatenly refused to dub the last 2 seasons for both GX and 5D.
I highly recomend that you watch the sub if you ever try to go back into the anime and DO NOT, watch the dub for any other reson then for Nostalgia.
Don't take me wrong I am okay with the dub but after finding out how much they changed and removed from the shows it got me sad and angry so to me I now only watch the dub of the original show and GX only if I'm to lazy to read the sub.
Edit: I have to point this out, because it always bugs me when people react to 5D and Vrains, and how always they start complaing about how they duel wile driving a bike, but in vrains they are surfing and no one bats an eye, it just bugs me how vrains surfing duels are seen as okay and not worth commenting but 5D's always gets laughed and made fun of.

In GX only season 4 didn't get dubbed (and the last episode of season 3). The show ended with Judai/Jaden missing... What a happy ending to a kids show XD
Apparently it didn't get dubbed not because it was to dark but because at the time 5Ds came out and they wanted to get that dubbed as fast as possible and focused on that instead. The dates fit this statement as well. GX ep 155 (s 3 ep 50) came out on August 23 2008 in America and 5Ds ep 1 came out on September 13 2008 in America.

Yugioh Sevens is a very interesting case in a long running anime. Yugioh isn't a stranger to hard reboots, it pretty much did one every season starting from Zexal. But from what we know from Twitter posts, Konami (company that owns the right to the Yugioh franchise) and Studio Gallop (the animation studio that did all yugioh anime from the OG to Vrains) has a bit of falling out which lead to them switching studios for the new series. Moreover, during this period Konami also introduced a completely new card game in Yugioh Rush Duels (basically a boiled down version of the original card game) so in a sense Yugioh Sevens and now Go Rush can be considered an entirely different series of anime from Yugioh (DM-Vrains).

Umm yeah, answering a few short inquiries:
5DS is when they started going with the early ugly CGI and show's animation has always been pretty budget. It is deemed the high point story-wise though... no masterpiece but like, compared to the other Yugioh stuff....
ZeXal had the most budget and it shows. Animation peaked here no doubt. 5DS was darker trying to grow with its audience but ZeXal was a response to competition, a show called "Cardfight Vanguard" was starting up and stealing the audience back then.
Arc V looks different because their dimension shenanigans are basically each alternate versions of the previous series. They even had Alexis and Aster from GX, Crow and Jack from 5DS, and Kaito from ZeXal in the openings. It was an attempt to celebrate the franchise as a whole but a lot of the budget it could have had was redirected to the "Dark Side of Dimensions" movie and it suffered a lot as a result, it pretty much has the worst and most hate indusing finale of the franchise easily hahaha.
VRAINS was the last show made by the original studio that had always worked on these, and it suffered the hangover of the budget issues the previous show left, along with some staff leaving to better projects... Opposite to Arc V, this one was more of a "nothing" show in terms of engagement. Wasn't really hated but wasn't really loved either, as you infered.
Sevens and Go Rush are like watching Bakugan or Dino King. It has some charisma but you can tell the demographic went waaaaaay down. From Shonen (old teens/young adults) to kodomo (kids), and the monster designs and CGI effects also are a step down from the Yugioh aesthetic, especially if you go back to ZeXal in comparison.

*Vrains* might have the least hype OPs compared to other series but that's due to it somber story in general. The MC is such a quiet & broken character who has a dark past that you feel sympathetic for him.
Vrains also has the cleanest overall story compared to other YGO shows. As you can see, it only has 3 OPs. That's due to production issues, the story's focus became real tight. Aside from recap episodes, Vrains has no filler arcs whatsoever. It doesn't even have the dreaded tournament arc. Since they can't afford to have fillers, the story move along quickly & on point, making it a "short & (bitter)sweet" show compared to other YGO series which tend to go all over the place. Ironic, isn't it?

    • @genyakozlov1316
      @genyakozlov1316 2 года назад +1

Fillers make the characters more developed, so Vrains ended up with the most underdeveloped side cast. I love Vrains, but it really could use some fillers. Arc-V too, instead it stretched out the main plot paper thin, so you barely get anything episode after episode despite the main plot being very cool.

    • @androyus
      @androyus 2 года назад +5

@@genyakozlov1316 At the end of the day, Vrains is Yusaku & Ai's story and the show achieved a lot with them. Side characters got enough development considering they get as much development as Jounouchi at most & Anzu at least (with way less episodes). So yeah, Vrains is still the most efficient & effective series that doesn't waste much of audiences' time but with the same result. Not to mention one of the best endings since the OG Duel Monsters.

1:30 The English dub opening theme of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, "Hyper Drive", my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! opening theme (in general). I even made a guitar tab of it since I wanted to play it on guitar but yeah, too bad there isn't an official extended/full version of it as I too would love to have a full/extended version of it. 5D's is my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series and it's usually a fan favorite among YGO fans.
I have seen most Yu-Gi-Oh! seasons and some of them in English and Japanese:
    - Duel Monsters, GX, and 5D's in both English and Japanese.
    - And I only watched Toei's Yu-GI-Oh! ("Season 0"), Zexal, Zexal II, ARC-V, and VRAINS in Japanese and a little of SEVENS (the change of artstyle and the comedy wasn't for me) but
    - - I have briefly seen the English Dub of Zexal and I didn't like the English dub voices in Zexal so I stopped watching the dub of that and I also couldn't get into the English voices of ARC-V. I don't know what the English dub of VRAINS is like.
Among the Japanese opening themes, the 4th Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters opening theme "WARRIORS" is my favorite. I remember Dueling Network playing that opening theme.
I also still actively play the Yu-GI-Oh! trading card game and I've been playing Yu-GI-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution a lot on my Nintendo Switch (my favorite YGO video game so far).
My current IRL decks so far are:
    - Armed Samurai - Ben Kei OTK deck - A deck with powerful equip cards to deal massive damage with the multi-attacker card Armed Samurai - Ben Kei.
    - Thunder Dragon + Watt deck - Originally a custom Watt deck I bought, I later mixed Thunder Dragon cards in it and finally became a powerful deck.
    - A deck of powerful old cards - Just something simple.
    - Link Strike starter deck - Starter deck for Link monsters.
    - Space-Time Showdown starter deck - Starter deck for Pendulum monsters.
And I would like to construct a Wight/Skull Servant deck someday.

In my humble opinion, Yugioh Zexal is one of the greatest anime of it's type and is absolutely worth all anime fan's time even if you aren't a massive fan of Yugioh. The story it tells and also the animation displayed is in it's own league within these "kids" anime. The one big complain about it is that it's first act is a slog to go through and a majority of the characters we're introduced to aren't really that interesting. It's not until the main rival of season 1 (Kaito/Kite) is introduced does the plot actually move forward.

Fun fact: 5Ds first season was very dark, focused on cults. And then one of the VAs was found to be involved in a sex cult, so the cult angle was changed. I always wonder what had happened if the cult angle had continued forward.
Starting with Zexal, there was some weird theming to some of the character designs. It may have been in prior seasons too, but starting with Zexal it's much more obvious. For example, Shark and Yuma's hair are based on sea animals; Shark a squid, and Yuma a shrimp. In Arc-V, Yuya and the other boys are all designed based on fruits it seems (Yuya is a tomato, for example).
If you watch Zexal you need to watch it subbed. There are *significant* story changes in the dub version, but they don't work around them perfectly.

The design of the protagonist of 5d is very generic, Jayden's is memorable
    1:08:50 It's not that, it's just pre-2010 and 2010 tools. .obviously cleaner than 2000s

Restart reading the Yugioh manga then read Transcend Game and end it with The Dark Side of Dimensions movie. That's the Kazuki Takahashi canon timeline.

The mc of Arc V, Yuya, and Giorno from part 5 have the same voice actor so you can say Yugioh is a Jojo reference

Yu-Gi-Oh itself was inspired by Jojo.
Also Dio's VA was in Yu-Gi-Oh! He was the guy using dark magician against Yugi in battle city. And he also was Seiyu the crazy guy of society of light. That was with Edo Phoenix

@@Nikolai2i You're also forgetting that Dio's VA voiced Sartorius, and his ace monster is quite literally called "The World".

Obligatory, I'm late statement. But Yu-Gi-Oh! shows won't really tell you what they're about until the last 2 seasons. Like GX is about a kid that grew up alone finding out he is a dark entity from the past and proceeds to lose his friends and enslave an entire dimension, eventually coming to terms with himself and protecting his world and leaving his friends to take care of their own problems. Then 5D's is about an energy crisis that mutates humans and causes the end of the world as time travellers go back in time to stop the main character from existing while the main character looks for a way for his way of life to survive and for the world and humanity to continue to exist. Zexal is about a great interdimensional war with earth as it's battleground and finding the literal creator of the yugioh univers, Numeron Dragon, to end the war. Arc-V is basically the same except the war is about returning the dimenions to one but the main character is actually 1/4th of the supreme king (what Jaden is) and to reuinite them would end the universe so basically everyone dies in the end leaving the dimensions split apart. Vrains is about a program to torture children to fight an AI uprising while the AI's have to deal with the fact that if the exist humanity will die and that humans know this and will try to kill them even if the AI's don't want to end humanity, in the end the AI's have to die and it's really sad.

Actually 5D's is an exception since it was originally supposed to end after the Dark Signers arc, so the Neo Domino-Satellite divide and the Signers-Dark Signers war was initially what it was really about.

I like how you point out the artstyle & animation in those openings.
I normally don't care and just listen man.
But anw... Yeah they did invest a lot into ZeXal as compared to 5D's.
It's like... YGO was in decline back then, so they tryna bring in more children.
Hence why the better animation and a more vibrant tone.
Same goes for ARC-V as well, but the animation declined in later arcs cuz animators focus more on the Dark Side of Dimension movie.

I'm kind of concerned for this guy's safety. Because a lot of five d's fan boys scare me on a deeply personal level.
