And in Britain we do infact have cookies, which are specifically a certain type of biscuit, usually a chewy kind containing chocolate chips, raisins or other similar little treats. It's the same thing where America in general think that french fries and British chips are the same thing. They may be made from the same ingredients cooked in a similar way, but they are a very different end result, and in Britain, they are very distinctly classed as different food items. If you buy a burger in Britain, you will typically get fries with it, not chips. If you go to buy fish and chips you will get chips and not French fries. French fries are potatoes that are thin cut, and fried quickly in very hot oil until a golden brown and crispy result is achieved, however, chips are thicker cut potato, slowly cooked in oil that isn't as hot as the french fries are cooked in, and are cooked until a more pale lightly golden colour, with slightly crispy outer, but softer and having a more light and fluffy texture inside. 2 totally different products that are very distinctive from each other and not the same. How disappointing it was to be taken out when in America to have fish and chips at a "Traditional" British American eatery, only for the British people working in there to actually be Americans doing an offensive non existent "English" accent that sounded more like a south African that had just had a stroke, and then to be served my fish and chips which was a piece of frozen, breadcrumb covered, non distinctive river fish that tasted muddy, I believe they said it was catfish afterwards, served with this anal delight, was a plate of McDonald's style french fries, half a slice of lemon, and for some weird reason, beetroot, lettuce and tomato wedges also joining them on the plate. Yeah, you know, served exactly how British fish and chips AREN'T served. The place was supposedly owned by British ex-pats. If they were, they should be ashamed of themselves. The worst part was being guilted in to leaving about a 30% tip on top of paying for that utter $hitefest, because I felt sorry for the servers and other staff knowing they don't get paid enough to live on, even though they had, to use an analogy ,served me $hit on a plate and told me it was caviar, and then, on top of doing this, had taken the Mickey out of my countries various proud accents in a way that would have made Dick Van Dyke cringe, right to my face, and smiled whilst doing so. And I still gave them a $25 tip. America turned out to not be the thing it had built up to be in my head since I was a kid, watching movies and TV from there. Turns out the the American dream is just that. But it is only the dream you have about the place in your head as a kid, and that dream, it's better than the actual reality of the place, which while it's not all bad, it can be maybe more of a nightmare than a dream at times. Nowhere is perfect. Britain has just as many faults, bad and good things. I just think in Britain we are more likely to admit that and maybe do something about it, where as America won't admit it has anything bad, it's all good, so no need to correct things like not paying wait staff properly, or supplying a better, tax funded medical system that is available to all no matter your status, or even admitting that gun control might need better restrictions placing on who can own them. Or admitting that their president had something medically and mentally wrong with him for at least the last 3 years, and keeping him in charge of the big red button. My gran had Alzheimer's. She had a big red button in her warden controlled apartment, that she would regularly press for no apparent reason. The cooperative movement was founded in the 19th Century by a group of Citizens in Northern England to bulk buy produce to undercut local traders. You become a member and allocated a number which you produce with every purchase. This entitles you to share of the profits every year. These are called Dividends .
And be aware these co-operatives are not interchangeable. I got a membership card for a Co-Op in York, tried to use that card in a Norwich Co-Op. Nope.
yeah but the issue in the whole country is, it doesnt snow often enough most places for the local council to buy snowploughs and maintain them. even if they did, the next time the 'low tax party' (we all know who that is) gets in locally, they cut the maintenance budget to cut council tax or road tax, then sell the machines before they become unsaleable either to fund some personal vanity project (like a new town hall office block) or just to cut more from council tax. so when it snows because there is little in the country where it doesnt snow often, the snow overwhelms the gritters and the country grinds to a halt over two or three inches which melt within a few days.
@@davidhines7592the problem is more to do with the fact it's not cold enough here. In Scandanavia countries for example, it's well below freezing for much longer, the snow stays dry and powdery which is much safer to drive on. Also their population density is low so allows for slower driving without affecting the flow of traffic. Here the snow is wet and hovers around the freezing point, so slush turns to ice and makes driving treacherous. The population density in cities also means the amount of people suddenly driving slower causes major problems. As you say, the gritters etc then add even more of a problem on allowing it to build up in the first place.
Yorkshire puddings are made by whisking up a batter. Very much like the batter you make for pancakes. The batter is poured into individual shaped baking tins in a small amount of very hot fat/oil. Baked in the oven for 30 minutes.
Co-op specifically isnt the point being made. In the UK you dont usually get zoning laws creating endless suburban spraw of just houses. Here its all a bit more varied, and you are highly likely to get small supermarkets (maybe 7-11 equivalents?) opening up to serve primarily residential areas, so you have a place to walk to get a few items when you need them.
The vast majority of us don’t file taxes at all, you only do it if you’re self employed, otherwise your employer does it and it automatically comes out of your pay each month etc
If you have any sort of investment income or if you are a pensioner and have other pensions besides the state pension then you have to do a tax return. The allowances have been and are continuing to be whittled down. Many more pensioners will now be paying tax.

when she says about the co-op shes just talking about local supermarkets, americans outside cities probably wouldnt be used to them but in the uk theyre everywhere, every few streets there will be a co-op food, asda local, tesco express, spar, eurospar, maybe a mace or a daytoday or a todays local or a coscutters or a russels etc youre never far from a small market. A COOKIE IS A TYPE OF BISCUIT. If you have a job in the uk, you likely dont do your taxes, in fact most people in the uk will have no experience having ever filed any kind of taxes due to PAYE a system where tax is automatically deducted before you get paid. Meaning you only ever recieve your money after all taxes and contributions.
Back in the day I had to fill in a tax return every year, occasionally get fined for being late. Working how much tax I should pay or reclaim on savings account was really annoying...

Addicted since childhood - I'm now 52, but my Mum's yorkshires are still the best I've ever had! As a complete heathen though, it's not been unknown for me to microwave a bunch of cheap yorkshires, tear them up, and drop them directly into a jug of extra-extra-thick onion gravy made with granules to be then eaten/slurped as a kind of soup/stew cross in front of the telly - but that's a secret I've not shared with even my closest friends, so make sure not to tell anyone!
Yorkshire pudding (batter) was originally cooked to go with roast beef. Some people may be traditionalists, but most aren't. They love their Yorkshire puddings so much that they'll eat them with any roast dinner, or fill them with any filling, etc.

Dude you really need to make some Yorkshire puddings to have with a chicken or beef dinner or with a pot pie, but make sure you save some for later , when they are cold add a teaspoon of strawberry jam to the middle and eat
Roast beef yorkshire puddings, lamb mint sauce, pork apple sauce . This is not compulsory but was the usual twenty odd years ago ,now people just eat it as they wish.
Crumpets are made with a yeasted batter on skillet, usually in a ring mold. It is no harder than regular bread to make but are time consuming. They freeze well and do require a good toasting with lots of butter Yorkshire puddings are called popovers or Dutchbabies in the US I believe. They are a savory crispy vessel for your roast dinner, especially onion gravy.

Afternoon tea or a cream tea is a wonderful experience! Wales is stunning and we have loads of castles ...the nearest one to me is only 3 miles away! (I moved to Wales 7 years ago so a bit bias!) The landscape is amazing here too! Worth a visit!!! I used to live near the New forest and all of the pony's are owned but the owners are allowed to let their pony's graze in the forest it's to do with old law's around common ground. The pony's are rounded up once a year and some are sold etc. Each pony has a mark on it so the owners know who owns which pony.
JJ think of a shopping centre then imagine what it would be like if there was no corporate ownership, just small businesses and wholesalers getting together in one place to trade.
Fyi, the #1 brand of crumpets is the brand Warburtons, who makes lots of different breads. It is just cooking them right, they take a while in the toaster, but best way to cook them evenly. You want them to go browner and crispy to touch on both sides, but not overly brown on the hole side. They are technically already cooked, but you are just crisping them up on the outside. It is easy to undercooked em you see if you've never done em, and they are doughy then , which you don't want. Then you can be generous with butter. A proper butter like Kerrygold
The Summer pay off is very relevant to us not just because of the weather, but because of our northerly latitude our Winters are very dark with only about 7hrs of daylight, whereas the Summer it is light for about 17hrs a day which is fantastic, so thats why we really appreciate out Summer days.

Yorkshire Puddings can go with any roasted meat, but places will have set menus and prices. Also typically you will have it/them with beef, onion gravy and all the trimmings.
I was in Dunelm yesterday with my daughter and girlfriend. We bought some stuff for the house and a new fake Christmas tree and then we had lunch and coffee in the cafe.
I can’t get vegan Yorkshire puddings when I’m out, which is understandable. But you can make them at home with non-dairy milk. I personally can’t taste the difference. It’s a bit of a faff though, so I only have Yorkshires once a year.
I'd happily swap 10months of grey skies & rain for sunshine most days. In fact August is often quite wet. I work outdoors & have had many soggy Augusts. May/June & September are often the driest months. If I'm holidaying at home in the UK or Ireland that's when I book time off work for the best chance of sunshine.
Potato waffles and smiles are mash potatoes that have been shaped and cooked to create a crunchy outside. Coop is a supermarket that also has venues for funerals, pharmacists, and insurance. The supermarket by coop is often small and tends to be close to a neighbourhood. I can literally walk 5 minutes to mine. The ponies or horses at the new forest are normally owned by someone. They are left to graze and do their thing. They also have cows that roam around . Pigs are let loose to eat the acorns as they are toxic to the ponies. As a kid my grandad used to take us. It is an amazing place. Just dont drive fast!!!
The Co-Op is a chain of supermarket. But they're generally more convenience stores. They're usually much smaller than the big Walmart, Tesco etc, and they ten to be in the middle of housing estates. They're the sort of shop you nip to when you want a carton of milk, or when you've run out of washing up liquid, or just a few red peppers, (Capsicums), for a recipe, that you forgot to get when you did your main shop. Yeah, they also do other services, such as funeral services. They generally do a nice range of dead bodies they keep by the freezer section 😲 Joking. The funeral services are completely separate, usually in different parts of the town.

Profiteroles are pretty much the same as Chocolate eclairs, just a different shape. They're little balls made of Choux pastry, filled with cream and drizzled or topped with chocolate sauce. The Co-Op used to do them and they contained Alcohol. Really yummy! 😋😋😋😋
I'm originally from Yorkshire. Yorkshire puddings should be served with gravy BEFORE the roast. And if there are any left over they are eaten with golden syrup for breakfast.
In parts of the new forest there are pigs that roam freely to forage and free range. These pigs have the nicest meat and are the leanest in fat due to their diet lots of grass and acorns and excercise .Local pubs do pig roast evenings for about 20 pounds per person you get food and a drink .
Profiteroles are evil. Especially when they are on special offer and on the front corner of the row in the supermarket as you walk in and you think "What a good price I can buy two packs..." Seriously delicious, contrast between cold fresh cream, Belgian chocolate sauce and the delicate pastry. OK, off to Waitrose tomorrow.
Also on the nut roast and Yorkshire pudding thing. Normally the nut roast is sold as the vegetarian option and Yorkshire pudding is made with animal fat so you need to specify if you are mixing and matching, lol.
The co-op is generally a small supermarket akin to a 7-11 in the US where you can get groceries cigarettes alcohol etc. The company is massive and there is multiple co-ops in every town almost. They also have banking and funeral service but theyre not in store
i love the fact i can log onto my bank account on line and click a tab to ''pay someone'' if you have paid someone before there details are already loaded then put the amount you want to transfer put in your pass code and press send. if they are with the same bank its in their account within a minute or so if they're with a diff bank it can take upto 2 hrs. i love that all our taxes are taken out of our pay check by our employer on payday and what we get in our account is what we have left to spend . A system called 'Pay As You Earn'. so no tax returns for us Unless you are self employed where you do it yourself on an app or through an accountant. Also i love that when shopping you dont have to add the tax ontop of the price tag. What you see is what you pay.

The cooperative movement was founded in the 19th Century by a group of Citizens in Northern England to bulk buy produce to undercut local traders. You become a member and allocated a number which you produce with every purchase. This entitles you to share of the profits every year. These are called Dividends .
My Grandmothers Co-Op number was 40884
And be aware these co-operatives are not interchangeable. I got a membership card for a Co-Op in York, tried to use that card in a Norwich Co-Op. Nope.
@@hughtube5154 if it’s not interchangeable then what’s the point?!
In the north when it snows we just put a big coat on😊
As we do in the south.
In Scotland we just go taps aff.
yeah but the issue in the whole country is, it doesnt snow often enough most places for the local council to buy snowploughs and maintain them. even if they did, the next time the 'low tax party' (we all know who that is) gets in locally, they cut the maintenance budget to cut council tax or road tax, then sell the machines before they become unsaleable either to fund some personal vanity project (like a new town hall office block) or just to cut more from council tax. so when it snows because there is little in the country where it doesnt snow often, the snow overwhelms the gritters and the country grinds to a halt over two or three inches which melt within a few days.
jessie.
There’s a running theme here: crumpets aren’t bread and Yorkshire Puddings aren’t bread. Not everything is bread 😂
Yorkshire puddings are made by whisking up a batter. Very much like the batter you make for pancakes. The batter is poured into individual shaped baking tins in a small amount of very hot fat/oil. Baked in the oven for 30 minutes.
You say that, but I would gladly use either to make a sandwich.
Talkie the Toaster would define Crumpets as bread (Red Dwarf)

Co-op specifically isnt the point being made. In the UK you dont usually get zoning laws creating endless suburban spraw of just houses. Here its all a bit more varied, and you are highly likely to get small supermarkets (maybe 7-11 equivalents?) opening up to serve primarily residential areas, so you have a place to walk to get a few items when you need them.

when she says about the co-op shes just talking about local supermarkets, americans outside cities probably wouldnt be used to them but in the uk theyre everywhere, every few streets there will be a co-op food, asda local, tesco express, spar, eurospar, maybe a mace or a daytoday or a todays local or a coscutters or a russels etc youre never far from a small market. A COOKIE IS A TYPE OF BISCUIT. I have yorkshire puddings with every roast, I don't care if it's chicken, beef or lamb I even put them on with steak pies, or mince and potato, they are essentially a vehicle for gravy/sauce and go with anything
