@@EarthC111 Actually, only since 1820, when the colonies were actually constituionally included as states/countries of Portugal (like French Guyana nowadays or Scotland in UK). But Brazil was considered a colony from 1500 to 1808, when the Royal Family moved the capital of the Empire from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro and created the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarve.
It was written shortly after the massacre of settlers and Portuguese aligned natives by UPA that started the insurgency. People, in particular the colonists, reacted first with panic, and then with blind rage.
This is that latter stage.

Just a few corrections
0:56 - "Vencer" means "to win", not "to conquer";
0:59 - "valor is what gives you reason" - it's actually the other way around: "Having reason is what gives you valour", or "What gives you valour is having reason"
1:03 - "Gritarei" means *I* will shout. "We will shout" would be "Gritaremos".
1:13 - "E" means "and" indeed, but the correct word is "É", which means "is". So instead of "and to fight", would be more appropriate "It is fighting until winning" or "we must fight until winning".
1:30 - The general sense of this verse is correct, but the translation is not the most accurate. "Ao" means "to the", not just "the". But in this case I understand it may be difficult to find the most suitable words.
Finally, the soldier in the picture, while epic, is from WW1, and this song is explicitly about the Colonial War in the 60s.

I mean vencer comes from the Latin word vincere which means to conquer, and in context I think it kinda makes sense, but I get what you are saying
I think the translation is supposed to be a bit poetic. I mean most of the song is in first person plural, so it'd make sense to translate gritarei as such. And "ao invasor" just translates to "the invader", so there's no real mistake there either. Portugal did own Angola during WW1... The only real mistakes as far as I can see, is é and 0:59, but I can see why you pointed out the other things as well.

Actuallt my grandfather fought for portugal in this war ! He left with my grandmother from portugal because they were being persecuted by salazar (dictator of portugal) so they flee to angola, some time after the civil war break out and they were stuck there the rest of my family went to brazil but my grandfather stood, he fought againts the communists, when fighting a grenade exploded near him, so he went to brazil. He still alive until this day :) i born in brazil, in february of this year (my birthday) he gave me a soviet communist pin that he grab from a communist in angola. I cant even imagine what my family had to pass...
