This game is so good. Over time I've grown to appreciate it more and more. The best thing about this game is the extremely well theming. Especially in the last level when you enter the alien base, an extended version of the bosstheme from level one starts which really suits the "you're not escaping this alive" athmosphere (and all the doors closing behind you). In fact I'm going to fire the game up once more ... hard level is a challenge!
Back in the 16-bit era if a game was from Konami then you knew that it was good, They must have produced some of the best games on the SNES, I loved this and Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator as well as Castlevania IV, Super Contra, Tiny Toons.....etc.
"Arms installation is complete, good luck!" I'll never forget that line. Me and my friends say this right before weightlifting at the gym. Ya, we're cornballs...
@Temjin99 Back then, you could hear which one of the big names made the game just by the sound of it. Konami, Capcom, Nintendo, Squaresoft, everyone had a very distinct sound effects database. Yes a lot of these same sounds are used in Contra III and numerous other Konami games.
I was looking for a video on this game because it just came out on the Wii Virtual Console today. I'm not usually one for shooters, but man this looks sweet, I think I'll have to pick this one up along with Blue's Journey - only one more game to check out from todays VC releases and that's Volleyball on the NES.
I love konami games on the snes back in the 90's the graphics, soundchip mode 7 combination.. memories of being single and early 20's dateless now I can't watch thiswithout my kids crowding me almost 40 now!!!
A stunning achievement - graphics, sound, mode 7 fluidity, gameplay - from the relatively early Snes days. Yes, it was short, but technically excellent, and has weathered far better than most games of its era. I always wondered why there was no clear follow-up to this game. I'd love to know what else this Konami team made.
Just started playing this, had it for a long time, god I'm finding it a hard game. Great game though and you are a great shoot um upper... Nice video illtry ang get some tips from it, I need it.
@HITpadawan Well, the SNES used sampled audio for everything, unlike most other consoles that era, which used either chip-sounds [square/pulse, triangle, noise] or FM, and those systems either tried to emulate sampled audio or had one/two channels of lo-fi sample output. So, unlike say, the Genesis [which takes one FM channel and uses it for really lo-fi sample playback], you can get clear voices.
Thanks for the upload, this takes me back. :) Go to Google and look up "Kick My Axe" with the quotes. The first link will take you to a remix of both the songs from the first stage of Axelay. It's one of the best videogame remixes I've ever heard. Midee/Prozax's remix of Lifeforce (NES) is also worth checking out.
I wish someone would've told me about this game back in the day, I would've loved it, although this game can make you want to throw a controller at the wall when you lose a level and have to start back ALL THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING, AAARRRGGGHHH!
How about that first level stage music to introduce and kick your ass into this game! Fucking awesome! One of the best soundtracks on an SNES game period.
How damn cool is this? I saw this game for 5 bucks in a going out of business video store! To think I didn't pick up a Konami game? Heresy on my part.....*sigh* Now I know what I missed.
By the way, in the video I noticed you using trigger speed 4 or 5. I always used 3 and I was really surprised how much better the higher trigger speeds are. On hard I couldn't get past level 4 but yesterday I reached level 6 at the first try!
@HITpadawan Yes it was nice! The most creepy however, was on Super Metroid. I never forget when I heard that the first time. I shit my pants. "The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy, is at peace."
Someone challenged me to do level one and I decided to try it on hard mode, I just started this channel and want to get a few more challenges. By the way, nice job, you use FRAPS?
Fucking awesome shooter EVER, i even have it now, i loved way back when it came out here in europe and i play some time from another. I love the music and gameplay its the perfect shooter.
oh my god.. I totally forgot about this game... I hate that my mum gave our SNES to any of her co-workers when I was a child.. she destroyed my whole life when she did so, just cause we got a N64... thats no reason to take my SNES and give it to anyone else... this one was my favourite game how could I forget about it : ( I feel ashamed... mhh first of all I need to re-buy a SNES again...finally... and then first getting this game back from ebay -.- ..bad mommy...
This game doesn't use mode 7. Mode 7 can (If programmed incorrectly) slow the system down to a crawl. hence why early mode 7 games like SCv4 and SMW didn't have much else going when it was being used.
Arms Installation is Complete. Good Luck
Hahahhahah! That's the quote!
"Arms insallation is complete, good luck"
I downloaded the whole soundtrack! Awesome music.
Straight fire.
This game is so good. Over time I've grown to appreciate it more and more.

Some of the sound effects seem like they were from Contra III
Not seem, they are. Both games are made by Konami. It's just like the "pause" sound is the same in every Konami game.

I remember getting home from school, dropping my eastpack backpack, and running to my SNES to play games like this.
Had this game when i was younger. It took me hours of googling to figure out what it was cause i couldn't remember the name. Good game. Greats times.
"Arms installation is complete, good luck!" I'll never forget that line. Me and my friends say this right before weightlifting at the gym. Ya, we're cornballs...
And then weightlifting on the Stage's Music?
Boy, that game sure takes me back!
this game kicked ass! one of my favorite SNES games. the soundtrack is great, too
Next to Cybernator this is one of my favorite games on the SNES.
I still own one and play from time to time, althought im 32.
Never too old for this game
@@dreal500 jezus... it's been 10 years already? I still own that snes btw and i still play from time to time.
@@PowerfulLighting so awesome. Cybernator is one of my favs too. First stage music is awesome
it remembered me so much of when i was a kid
back to the 90's!
I was so happy when I bought this as a kid (well my parents bought it), incredibly well done game.
Well you sure don't sound like someone in his thirties. more like someone in his twenties.
@Temjin99

Not that you need it by the look of things, well done!

According to Hardcore Gaming 101's entry on the game, it's "EARTHLING APPROACH", which makes a lot of sense really.
Just started playing this, had it for a long time, god I'm finding it a hard game.

They really should remake this game, brilliant gameplay. It's a lot of fun on PSP and could only get better with a remake on the new consoles.

That was a perfect game, not ego shooters dirt!
mode 7 is the most spectacular inovation in gameing in my opinion
I wish someone would've told me about this game back in the day, I would've loved it, although this game can make you want to throw a controller at the wall when you lose a level and have to start back ALL THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING, AAARRRGGGHHH!
Really well done. I almost can't pass the first stage on medium =/ It's a hard game, a little too short.. but the graphics are great, sound is great..
I quickly learned that Konami was a name you could trust when it came to SNES, but if you saw LJN, RUN!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful flying.
Reminds me good old days!!! Great Game!
maaan this brings memories... good memories :D
How about that first level stage music to introduce and kick your ass into this game! Fucking awesome! One of the best soundtracks on an SNES game period.

oh yeah, i heard that Axelay Viper is coming to Otomedius Excellent that pilot of a samurai girl named Fumma Getsushihana in the game...:DDD
cool!!
I love this game
I hate shmups, but this is one of my all-time favorite games. Go figure.
Yeah, it's that good.

Super, ich liebe Axeley!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the music
great game... excellent sundtrack
I fucking love Axelay
@HITpadawan
Yes it was nice! The most creepy however, was on Super Metroid. I never forget when I heard that the first time. I shit my pants. "The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy, is at peace."
truly one of the best games for snes imo, but hard is too hard for me XD. yes good work!!
Someone challenged me to do level one and I decided to try it on hard mode, I just started this channel and want to get a few more challenges. By the way, nice job, you use FRAPS?
Best Shmup on Snes!
Great Video! *****

Fucking awesome shooter EVER, i even have it now, i loved way back when it came out here in europe and i play some time from another.
I love the music and gameplay its the perfect shooter.
Pritty cool i might download this on the VC
Ehh...I don't know what you mean by that. I mean when you turn left and right (or up and down, I forget which one) it feels like its dragging.
This needs to be a 3DS Classic.
@whoandtheha
Konami in general was THE COMPANY in the 90's.
thanks alot ibuk!!
like a boss!
Much as I wish it were the latter, it is the former.
looks fun. :3
You should post this to gameanyone - they don't have any runs posted for this game currently
This game isn't Mode 7. I don't understand why people think it is.
I used to play this game with myran jaivin.
Inertia as in "resistance to accelerate".
Do you mean the slow-motion trick when something dramatic happens during the game?
This game doesn't use mode 7. Mode 7 can (If programmed incorrectly) slow the system down to a crawl. hence why early mode 7 games like SCv4 and SMW didn't have much else going when it was being used.
Dude... F-zero was mode 7. What are you talking about.
OFMG:X:X:X:X:X:X:X::X:X:X:x this is best. you are a good player
this game was so aweome, the only shooter i like, too bad is too short
they tried do get that 3Dimensional thing to work but it all looks as if it were coming off a rolling pin. Ah well, This game still kewl.
@whoandtheha LJN made some sick games...show some respect. RIP ljN
Wouldn't be surprised, both games are developed by Konami :)
That is the opposite of ironic.
This game needs a fuckin' sequel. Konami, how about it?
no school like the old
but where from...? link me babeh! :D
God this iPhone touch keypad!
you can download many music from that site, it's not a joke
How exactly is the title supposed to be pronounced? Axe-lay or Ax-el-ay?
I meant "played" on an emulator ;)
a musica de introdução e um pagode fundo de quintal!
as far as alot of shooters go it doesnt look that difficult. and there are alot of better ones. but back in the day this game was the bomb hands down.
konaaaaaami
Fake 3D FTW!!!
@penetration999 ...
dude, genesis had diarrhea sound compared to SNES. ever played DOOM on snes and genesis? yeah great music on the sega COUGH.
OI! You play as if the inertia don't affect you. The inertia is the only thing I don't like about the game.
good music, crappy sond
i guess konami its rly gewd with their SHMUPS
i stick with gradius
Jodete...eso no es hard!! Ese juego tenia una banda sonora de la ptm..... y habia que ser pro para pasar solo el primer nivel..
