i think he was more shocked billie didn’t win, i saw things saying he was kinda upset about it since the whole movie is about women being overshadowed by men lmao. but the songs good don’t get me wrong, he just knew billie deserved that win since it was probably one of the most moving songs in the movie.
It's not about women being over shadowed, it's about genders fighting over each other and making patriarchs for their benefit
I think the problem is that those deep songs are not always what people want. The silly songs that are sung with enthusiasm and commitment can be just as good, their just not as deep and bombastic and dare I say snobbish a lot of awards want or we are used to getting praise. So seeing something fresh can be just as great if not greater than the powerful stuff we are used to...

I didn’t see the movie at the theater, I was convinced I wouldn’t like it. But winter came, it was streaming on TV so I thought why not? Loved it - everything about it. Great story, great acting, loved the song and I would also watch the Oscars just to see Ryan sing it. Sometimes Hollywood surprises you.
Same here! My 84 year old father rented it on Thanksgiving for us to watch and I thought he was crazy to think we’d like it. Then I saw it. It was so much more than I expected and I’ll never doubt my father again. It was the best surprise of 2023.
