i must be the only person who felt it went on way too long and was way too overwrought. maybe that's why all the critics and awards committees like it but i waited to watch it at home and i was thisclose to fast-forwarding through it. the only entertaining version i've heard is "i'm just pete" and at least 50% of that is the fact that it's a third as long as the original.

Even if it hits the right points "dramaturgically" it's still not a great song. Even in the album, I probably won't have it in my top 3. Speed drive, dance the night away and I'm just Ken are all much better and not just objectively but also because they work with the upbeat flashy vibe of the movie. What was I made for feels more about Billie Eilish trying to sing a ballad and flex her vocal range rather than make a song that works with the vibe of Barbie and not just hit all the right points with the right words while still completely missing the mark.

The song WWIMF was written ABOUT Barbie FOR the BARBIE MOVIE. A movie about feminism with a very real depiction of just how hard it is for women in the real world. Which is also pretty heavily depicted in Billies song, lyrically it rings true of how women do feel in a patriarchal dominated world. To then give best song to the clearly male joke song of the movie is ridiculous.

It was also like when Finland, Austria and Portugal each last won the Eurovision. In Austria's case it was a total joke by a comedian, Finland never expected to win especially dressed like zombies etc. and in Portugal's case it was too good for the contest and very old fashioned and the entrant said they did it to show the Eurovision fans a song which did not really belong in the contest as it was too good and old fashioned and not something today's youth would like.
