@@nolyfe4814 Like other SSDs it depends on how much you write on them. The typical 500GB Samsung SSD is rated for 300TB. That means in theory you can write 100GB per day to it for 8 years until it dies. But make sure to not fill up the drives completely, they need free space to evenly distribute the wear.
In my experience SSDs can easily outlast some HDDs if you don't regularly write a lot of data on it. The Samsung Pro SSDs have a longer lifespan than the Evo models but are also much more expensive.

Coming from an era where we used to load games from an audio tape (Spectrum 48K) that could take anywhere from 10 - 20 minutes (and even then not always work!) The extra few seconds that HDD is taking really isn't a hardship.
4 year old video, so pricing is different now. 2.5" SSD's back then were a much better deal. Now they are often the same price per TB compared to m.2's. But 2.5" SSD's are still great if you get an amazing deal on one. I built my current Desktop at the end of 2021, and I put in three nvme's (2 on board, one in a pci expansion card. All 1TB. One for OS + Programs, one for personal storage, one for work storage. And I have a 2TB external HDD to backup my storage drives. I always like important data to be on at least 2 different media). The only reason I went nvme was for the simplicity. Just plug in. 2.5" SSD's need power and data cables. So it is just cleaner in a case with a side window. But 2.5" SSD's are still a very viable option, and will be for some time still.
The most important thing, no matter what SSD type you get, is to get one with DRAM Cache.
Moral of the video: always set the ssd as the boot drive and for the installation path for your favorite single player games

There no point of spending more money on a m.2 if the ssd is only a second behind
its not just about game loading times lol. nobody is gonna buy an m.2 nvme drive just for that. people buy it for the fast read times
No, that was what they were thinking of M.2 was going to look like, but M.2 is way too faster, it would be like 8 seconds to turn on computer
They aren't any more expensive though, that's the point. A 240GB PNY XLR8 costs exactly the same as a SATA drive while being much faster in some situations, there is no point in getting SATA unless you're on a very tight budget and looking at the cheapest DRAMless ssds
@@piciu256 but you have to buy a new motherboard that have the port... only the recent ones has, a 3-4 year old doesnt. And buying a new just for that? Nah, I played my whole life with HDD and still happy with that, but i'll get a 860 evo sata because it can fit to my pc
@@johnnyhun1 yes of course, but if you don't have a modern board there is no discussion, and your PC wouldn't be able to handle the speeds probably anyway with older hardware. You can always use a PCI adapter.
3 Years later and we shall see.
Great video the M.2 SSD and the SATA SSD would perform almost the same for single loading application.
In Overwatch you still have to wait for people with IDE connected drives
Hate that update
Anton Babani idk man nothings really come out to make me move on yet
Sorry About that... :(
I’m going to get a SSD soon ;)
lool im surprised ide drives still exist tbh
Ide drive should be auto kick for this kind of game
When you use HDD, while loading games, on screen must appear advice: "It will take some time, better go make some coffee"
You re talking about loading on ps4 XD
In 2014 is the first time I used a 250GB ssd. I did research, and decided it was worth the price for installing the OS on it, and maybe one or two games, with the rest relegated to the HDD. It was such a massive upgrade that I had to physically show other people whenever they showed up. Didn't get a M.2 until I had an issue with the MOBO and accidentally upgraded to a slightly newer variant of the one I had, not knowing for years it had one. Was probably for the best, because by the time I noticed, the price was just right for adoption.
Makes me wonder how we ever got anything done on our PCs just a few years ago. I never understood why computers were always so slow, finally realized why when I got my first SSD.
Very cool comparison video. Super helpful when considering converting to NVME. Thanks for the upload!
Using the ssd in games that not have anything interesting in their load screens
Using the hdd in games that do have interesting stuff in their load screens
*_S T 0 N K S_*
lol
GTA IV... Gotta love that loading screen music.
@@Rayde886 Yes i remember sometimes i wanted to last longer bcs music lol
I wanted it to go faster cause I was scared my parents gonna walk in
Skyrim then lol
Fun fact: If you use both Nvme 2 and Ssd Sata then the pc will have speed of nvme regard in your software installation on Nvme drive
10,000,000 people sat here watching load screens for 4 minutes.
Great video showing everything bout the disks because i plan on buying m2 this video was very informative.
1:32
HDD: i can do it faster!
*a couple of seconds*
ssd and m2 sorry bruh, next time
Due the recent low prices for hdd, it's good to have one 2tb or 4tb just for storage.
I use the M.2 as a boot drive and store everything on my HDD.
I'm so used to skipping the first 30 seconds of every video but this person gets right to the point.
I mean i know HDD is slow and all,but seriously,54 secs to load windows, that's really slow even for an HDD,mine loads in around 30-36 seconds
Startup shit that he loaded!
Right.... I was thinking the same thing.... He must got the regular cheapest hdd he could find....
It is probably an old HDD and that SSD hasnt been use much so it has younger lifespan than HDD
Its probably 5400rpm hdd
@@arnasr6971 I had a 7200rpm HDD that would take 2~3 minutes to boot up. Plenty of HDDs take a long time. I know people who run Windows on HDDs who refuse to shutdown their computer because it takes so long for it to boot up.
I have almost a 10 year old 1tb HDD 6gb SATA drive and a 5 year old 500gb SSD in my pc, so far I've noticed that the ssd has slowed down a bit while the HDD hasn't even begun to slow down. So HDD is better for long time use and SSD for shorter time use. Though I hope the longevity of SSD's will increase in the future.
Newer dosent awsys mean better.
Thanks for the information
Boot time and app launch time is quite similar in nvme and sata SSD, pretty surprised.
The only bonus for HDD seems to be extended video loading cinematic in Battlefield?
ironically, this video is mostly sitting watching a hdd load.
For trucks- SCS software makes games like ets2 and ats with truckersmp being the multiplayer of both.
For cars- playground games makes best game like forza horizon or motorsport
