      Brian, when l OAV a two box hive.. It's 2 gram.. then after i do the apiary i come back with the second round and do 2 more grams on every hive with 2 box. But it works better on one box. Bees are very good to ventilate the stuff in the corners, around the cluster when they have the space.. so i do two time 2 gram in under 30min.
      It's not easy with brood in.. you guys should use formic. If you can buy licvid formic 60% strong i'll give you the recipe for a sponge on top of the hive. We used it for years on 30c every summer.. before brood breaks and OAV

      I've had time to think about your comment, and let me tell you something.. Every single beekeeper that wants to be a good beekeeper needs to have heavy , devastating losses #Facts. Every beekeeper that has had that happen has the upper hand.There are many lessons from that experience, from many angles, some are controllable, some aren't. Somes science,somes art..but everyone needs to be humbled,I think everyone should HAVE to lose it all or damn near to shape them and learn those valuable lessons worth Gold...Your lucky because you won't allow the same things to happen, not the same way.Youve learned what it takes to bounce back and what it takes to recover from it and realize the severity..You've also learned something golden..what you're made of and what you can accomplish.Every successful person failed and learned along the way,it's not a bad thing,it's a good thing man,it's a set back I get it,it's expensive too, but now it's behind you and it's time to shine,me too,watch what I do..I'm gonna kill it, you are too..most people are spoiled and never had to dig deep,head to the sky and handle it..I got your back bro, you need a queen,say the word.You need some advice, holler.💯

      @@harrisjoubertwithsleepycre1924 you may be right, the part where it goes from gas to crystal instantly might keep it low..I've always said if brood chamber is open honey not capped it's probably contaminate.. but I've read for last 7 years there's absolutely no way to poison yourself, but I've also read differently for 7 years..there's so many variables,my end conclusion is it's probably fine but not something I'd wanna keep eating due to kidney stones.It may be permissible to them but not to me..they let me eat heartburn medicine for years before they outlawed it,I kinda feel their levels that their ok with and the level I'm ok with is different..I do DEFINITELY believe it should be legal option for beekeepers,most definitely I think it should be allowed, without any doubt..

    Oxalic acid is no joke…if I remember correctly, lemon juice is good.
    I do have a question that you or someone can help. I goofed on an order and got an 8 frame hive set. Would it be better to leave a supper on (with the 2 deep boxes) in the winter since they are short 4 frames? Indiana has a pretty long winter. Thanks

    • @badassbees3680
      @badassbees3680  3 года назад

      I think less is better if you don't think you really need to Leave super on.. personally I think your OA treatments will be more effective , and should be able to pack 150-160 lbs of honey in dbl 8 I'd think...BUT ask a local,or gauge off past experiences,if you're normally low on stores before spring in ten frames I'd probably definitely leave it on (without excluder of course for anyone reading).I don't see no harm really in leaving it except I think it's easier for them to maintain heat in only two boxes and would winter stronger come spring, some may argue that but I think so.. however if their packed I wouldn't hesitate to leave a super on,I do it here alot cause I don't have to store em that way.If they weren't a nice big cluster I'd definitely remove it though..I have some I wouldn't want cold honey above sucking warmth outta hive even if bees only heat the cluster,it still warms the box.. maybe some stuff to consider, sorry no definitive answer...

    It must be really comforting for people to buy honey knowing the hives are gassed with oxalic acid with the honey supers on , I understand mites are a problem for beekeepers there , thankfully none here in Australia yet, the day it happens here I’ll never buy a drop of honey again , kidney stones ouch not something I want , is there any other method than using chemicals for mite treatment ? , just curious ,

    • @badassbees3680
      @badassbees3680  3 года назад

      You can use brood breaks,cage your queen for 15 days..use drone brood frames for trap frames and freeze em and kill mites, to name a few..OA is organic and found in leafy green vegetables and also is naturally occurring in honey...but it's not the same as adding a couple scoops and fogging it full and calling it good lol not to me and my yard at least...the saying is it won't contaminate and some say it'll disappear in two weeks... well I know bees remove it from frames and hive in 2 weeks but NOT the honey..I don't see no way of removing it from open cells not wax capped yet ,nor would they I wouldn't think except for consuming it. Some say a little can kill ya, some say it'd be next to impossible..I say they are ok with us eating poison long as it's ten parts per million and to each their own,their honey,their choice..as for me I won't do it, don't feel safe, don't feel right about it, and it will not happen to my family or yours if it comes out of my hive.. just my opinion for my bees and my honey...it could be safe, but it doesn't feel right in my gut, and I always trust my instincts!
