- We headed up to South Lake Tahoe to explore Glen Alpine Upper Falls located in desolation wilderness. It was truly breathing taking. Lake Tahoe is known for its crystal clear alpine waters and granite slabs. We started our journey on the one-lane road around Fallen Leaf Lake to the upper parking lot designated for desolation wilderness and the upper falls. Don't confuse this with the lower falls. The lower Glen Alpine falls can be accessed by car. You can drive up to the lower falls, the upper falls are about a 2-mile hike. We hiked to the upper falls and passed into Suzie lake.
Words nor this video can show the true beauty this area holds. With snow-capped mountains, raging creeks, and waterfalls we were in awe with each corner we turned. Come along with me as I share this trail with you.

I get so excited when I see those signs, too, especially in Desolation Wilderness! I’m seriously trying to figure out how to make a trip happen now! 🤣🤦♀️ And I totally agree about standing at the base of a waterfall. It’s truly magical! ❤️
I try to remember not to get so excited or always say how beautiful the area I am in hiking, but it truly is. I have some of the best areas to hike. If you get over to this area let me know. I would love to meet up and go on a hike with you.

Beautiful area, Kathy. Nice highlight of the surrounding area. Careful crossing the river! The spring was neat to see. Don't chance the snow bridges! Good plan to plan it safe and turn around. Trekking poles are super helpful for river crossings. Awesome waterfall & awesome video of your hike. Have a great day.
Thanks Steve. I am trying to get better with the voice over and tell more about the area. The snow bridge did scare me cause you couldn't really tell but it had lots of area below it that was covered. If I had fallen in I would have a hard time getting out. I have a bad knee and my goal is to start taking hiking poles on all of my hikes this next year to see if it helps with the creek crossings and pressure on my joints

It was so beautiful up there, I cant wait to get back this trail when all the snow melts! 2400 ft is pretty good elevation gain when you start at 6000 ft. I just take my time and enjoy the trail getting there. Thanks for watching!

Wow ! Spectacular! So beautiful! Have to watch out for the wobbly rocks! Been across a few of those! I love visiting old abandoned places! Looks like a really nice place to hike! Hope to see it myself one day! And I agree, it is not always about the getting to the destination. I sometimes find an area that I could stay in all day and be perfectly content! That is always the goal for me, the peace and contentment of what nature has to offer:)

Wow, the upper falls were amazing! That was a wonderful hike through some beautiful country. I think it was smart to turn around, rather than cross that snow bridge. LOL, that was a crazy brave squirrel at the end!

What a beautiful place Kathy it really makes me miss the area. The views are incredible. That's quite a bit of snow. Yes the journey was beautiful. The cascading water was amazing. Splash splash. That huge waterfall was insane.

That was a beautiful hike. My wife and I went to Glen Alpines Falls this past spring and it was fantastic. You are so right though. So many times I dont make it to the destination, but it has always been about the journey along the way. Great video an narration. That is something I need to do a lot more of in my videos. Hey Kathy! Nice to see you getting back to dropping videos again! We missed you for a bit there! Wicked skills not falling in the river on that crossing. those half logs were a bit sketchy. Was going to comment on how cool that you guys are getting some snow too, but then realized this was shot back in May. Such a great area around Tahoe.
Awe you are so sweet! I work in the health care and things got really busy here for a short time. So happy to be back! Yes I try to always post when I have hiked so people can see what it looks like at the season I visited the trail. It is so dry here right now we need the snow badly. A lot of this area has burnt from that horrible fire we had. I am so thankful I got to see how beautiful it was and have the videos. Thank you for such kind words. Happy Holidays!
I am "considering" for 2022 to do some hiking. Our mantra is, "we don't camp and we don't hike" 😆But, if I can get Patti to consider it, which is a big ask, then we will have to get a "starter" pack. I guess we should just start by walking some trails first before actually hiking. I'd be remiss to think that all of this beauty you show us is certainly within reach since we live in the area. Knowing that there is all this beauty so close to us I feel the need to explore it. Of course, bears scare the heck out of me 😄
Thanks for stopping by. I would say for beginners don't over pick your trails and try to do to much the first few times. You want to pick easier hikes with beautiful areas so patti will want to continue to hike. This hike you could do and stop at the the waterfall. Another good starter trail is frog lake. ( I have a video on it. I believe it is 4 miles and brings you to the lake with great views of the pass below) Pack wise, I would get a great day pack (20 litter) with a 2 litter bladder in it. The one I have in this video I use on all my day hikes and love it. It has room for a lunch, first aide kit and some extra layers if the weather changes. Let me know if you have any questions~ Kathy

nice job narrating, i notice the rocks in the water look pretty clean. around here they all have a slippery, almost slime on them. very slippery.

So much pretty!!! Funny you mentioned that about the waterproof hiking shoes. I was going to ask if your feet got all wet and how you could stand to walk around with soaked feet. I love that footage of the chipmunk!!!
I wear my boots when I know I will be crossing creeks. I don't want to take the chance of getting blisters from wet feet. In the summer its not a issue there are rocks to jump on. Thanks for watching Felix!

Goodness that’s some beautiful scenery and an amazing waterfall. I absolutely agree, the hike is more about the journey than it is about the destination. I’m never in a hurry when I go on a hike, I just wanna enjoy the moment on the trail as I go. With all that water crossing and water on the trail, I was wondering what shoes do you guys hike with? I prefer Keen.
Totally agree! Poor MaryAnn had on her hiking tunnies and her feet did get wet. I had on my La Sportiva hiking boots on so my feet stayed dry.
