    Please ,
    as a Chinese born in Taiwan , Europeans know so little about Taiwan , the just elected president only won 40 percent of votes , not representing most Taiwan resident's will.
    Taiwan is the territory of China, Chinese people lost millions and thousands lives during the second world war and stopped the Japanese occupation of Taiwan.
    For any Taiwan resident who does not want to be part of China, they are free to leave the island.

    A Chinese friend said that if the world expects China to continue to behave like it did back when Bill Clinton bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, they can stuff it. The Americans pretty much got away with the bombing. The Chinese don't buy the excuse that it was a simple mistake that was made because the United States used an old map (an old map!). Nevertheless, whatever the truth was, the Americans made a half-hearted apology and the Chinese took it pretty much sitting down. This puts things in perspective. Is China just more assertive because they are vain or is China finally standing up for its rights and interests just like every other nation should?

    Taiwan is recognise by EU as Chinese territory. let not pretend and have illusion that Taiwan is independent, it is not. it maybe a rebel state like donbass, but at the end of the day, EU is not going to recognise Taiwan anymore than Donbass, and just as Ukraine has the right to fight for Donbass, China has the right to fight for Taiwan. it is therefore more logical for EU to encourage peaceful unification than to oppose it.

    As a Chinese, it's really unfair that, except for Dr. Mahbubani, it looks like everyone agrees that they don't want China to become a big Goble power; that is the problem. That's not fair bc Chinese people want to improve our lives, and as a result, if everyone's life improves, China will become a significant global power. And I think that's why Dr. Mahbubani said their is no way to suppress China, bc if you want to suppress China you are not against communist or CCP or Xi, you are against all Chinese people's will to have a fair chance to get a good life.

    If I am not mistaken, the founding father of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew had said that "the future of Taiwan is not to be determined by the wishes of the people of Taiwan" ........ as the "Taiwan’s international fate was, in fact, sealed at the Cairo Conference in 1943" ..( because in order to end the war, 🇯🇵Japan had to surrender unconditionally and had to return back Manchuria, Taiwan and the Pescadores islands to CHINA ) .... henceforth,
    both the Constitution of 🇹🇼 ROC and the Constitution of 🇨🇳 PRC stipulate that the mainland and Taiwan are part and parcel of one CHINA.
    IMO, for the sake of resolving the familial domestic "Taiwan question", the central govt of 🇨🇳PRC finds it reasonable and acceptable to negotiate with the govt of🇹🇼 Taiwan Free Region of CHINA ( on the basis of "1992 consensus" ) to achieve a peaceful reunification.

    These two Poland scholars are very idealistic and didn’t get some of the basics. Poland needs to balance between US and Russia, not between US and EU. Russia doesn’t want Poland because they learned a heavy lesson in the 1950~1980, when USSR incorporated all the countries they have militarily occupied. It took Russia 10 years to incorporate Donbas regions.

    • @hydroac9387
      @hydroac9387 2 месяца назад +2

      Russia absolutely wants Poland because it desperately wants to secure its borders, and it can do this by securing various gaps to effectively shorten its border. During the Soviet Empire they controlled all 9 of these gaps, and the most important of them is in Poland. Stalin wasn't stupid, and he got everything he wanted during the peace settlement after WW2. During the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992 they controlled of influenced only 1 or 2 of these gaps, and every war that Russia has waged (I think there are 9 wars that Russia has waged since 1992) has been for these control of these gaps. When secured they shrink the 'border' from 5000 miles to about 500 miles. Since we know that the Russian army is little more that an armed mob after the Ukrainian Invasion, when they go after Poland they will give NATO a choice: lose London, Berlin, and Washington in nuclear fire or let the Russians control the territory.

      @@hydroac9387 you were correct about a “stupid” old Russia. It was a mistake to take over so many countries when they were strong. It almost destroyed Russia itself. But yes Deng xiao ping at the time was attacking the old communists mindset to adapt to the new reality to get out of their quagmire. I also recall it's the same Deng xiao ping ping that came up with the famous quote ' black cat, white cat as long it catches a mouse' . That quote should be quite explanatory about the the Chinese model which Westerners want to categorize into a certain bucket and give no credit to the fact that it can adapt and change on the fly and at Chinese speed to face any roadblocks. So, the arrival of Xi jing ping isn't a rebuttal of Deng xiao ping , Mao tsectung or whoever came b4. It's just an adaptation to the new reality. That was a wise choice as we saw China go from strength to new highs in the past 10 years of Mr Xi's stewardship whether the West likes it or not.

    The Poles are too obsessed with their past experiences under the Germans and then the Russians and we can understand that though the Poles themselves were often part of that experiences. They have no direct experience with the Chinese whose basic concern is creating a more equitable scenario where all their provinces have some equitable chance to improve themselves; though in reality, this is also a challenge when the provincial leaders simply jumped into housing developments. Hence, China has to spend huge sums to develop her logistics infrastructure to provide a more equitable chances for the poorer provinces to tact along. It is wrong for the Poles to assume that China seeks a strong central Government just to consolidate power! That nation is simply too large and has too many people to progress forward. Prof. Mahbubani had the experiences since he helped the founder of Singapore to develop the little island to her current status.

      Switch the roles, if China is under democratic rule like Spore and Taiwan under CCP,
      1) do you think Taiwan under CCP will accept China under democratic rule?
      2) do you think it is better under absolute dictatorial rule or political accountable democratic rule like Singapore?
      3) 统一的大业 is just like marriage with common value, don't you agreed?

    • @user-jx4uf1ko2u
      @user-jx4uf1ko2u 2 месяца назад +7

      If cannot to agree, just maintain status quo and need not to threaten like a bully to force a marriage by war but by courtship. If CCP cannot understand such a simple logic, they don't deserve to unite (marriage) Taiwan.

    1:04:50. Status quo is, Accordingly to the ROC constitution, Taiwan is a province of China, with the seat of government in Taipei. It has the sacred duty to re-incorporate the mainland into its fold.
    The quests seem to be all very knowledgeable re China. Certainly China had discharged hegemony in its history, but usually giving away more than it received.
    Also, another yardstick for china to measure it’s own greatness is in 小康与大同,both rooted someways in socialism. Hence, any private enterprise acting too greedily will be reminded that it’s success has been under the safety umbrella of the central government.

    Chinese in the Mainland seem very much lost patience with the Taiwan people as well as their government, as most of the Taiwan people has deny their nationality as Chinese but instead prefers to call themselves Taiwanese, and the government has kept pushing their agenda for independence.
    We even hear sayings in the Mainland like " Taiwan Island is Chines territory whereas the Taiwan people are not Chinese."
