I just found and watched Yamato since 2017. Sadly it is not popular in my nation but I swear this is one of the most impressive sci-fi anime series for me
Rollercoaster of emotions, the destruction of Gamilas, the Yamato and her fleet racing in to save the day, the daring rescue of the Iscandarians and their ultimate sacrifice, I think I cried three times watching this... *sniff*

I TOO!! Probably the same year as you (77 -78). For me, it was watching on a channel in SoCal..... Channel 5 with Tom Hatten, showing an "animated space war" ( before 'Star Wars' [??] )!! And That Was IT.... 'Star Blazers', 'Robotech', 'Akira', 'Cowboy Bebop', etc, etc. 'Evagelion', 'Food Wars'....I Could Go ON!!

My father watched the original star blazers as a child, and he didn’t even realize he was watching anime until I told him about it a few years ago. He also never finished season 1, meaning I’ve watched more of it than he has. He’s cool though, me and my family all watch shows & movies together and that includes anime. In fact we’re currently going through a U.C. Gundam watch, mostly gonna be the movies but we started War In The Pocket today.

Part of that might be because we all have broad scopes of our interests so while we would have differing favorite points of interest, they all still overlap.
I Probably watched it the same time your Dad did!!! Back in '77 - '78. NOW, with the 're-do', I have my daughter watching it ( a little bit ) with me. She's a bit more of a pacifice, So when she saw the "White Comet Empire", she asked, "..... Are there Humans/People on ALL Those ships (around Saturn)??!!" She was Quite worried, but I told her that they were mostly 'drones'/people without feelings....so no Lives lost (per se).

Not surprising, as these designs are based off the ones used in Yamato: The New Voyage. That film, like the Harlock series, had Leiji Matsumoto in one of the production chairs.

The problem here is that having shown the dezarium hammers to be so completely unstoppable it will now be annoying when they aren't used on Garmman or earth or any other important planet, because the Dezarium have already been shown so capable of destroying planets.

あの海上ターンはスゴいよね。機関長と機関員と操舵手の絶妙なコンビネーションがなければできないし モチロン機関の性能をフルに引き出さないと海面に激突してしまう。Ｕターン直後の正確な主砲総射も 砲撃手が船酔いしている暇もない！

ガミラスは国連宇宙海軍の他にガトランティスって言うチームとも敵対していて国連宇宙海軍がガミラスに勝ってガミラスが瀕死の時にガトランティスが急に動き出してガミラスが国連宇宙海軍と協力してガトランティスと戦う映画があったんだけどそこの悲劇からガミラスと国連宇宙海軍が和親条約を結んでデスラー総統とコダイが仲良くなったの（既に知ってたらすみません）
9:18 のところから男たちの大和のBGMに切り替わるのが胸熱すぎる。
でも、なんかオリジナルと違いますよね？何故なんでしょう？( -_・)?

2:30付近、ガミラス星消滅の瞬間に、オルゴールパートを合わせてくるのは、ちょっとやり過ぎ(誉め言葉)。悲壮感がただ事でなく、胸に迫ります。

いまだにハイニーの死を受け入れられない、
原作者の松本零士氏が逝去しても、リメイク版としても血脈が脈々と引き継いで行けるのが嬉しい。
現在のなろう系とか凄く矮小な世界観に比べてYAMATOやマクロスシリーズだけがスペースオペラの偉大な伝統を引き継いでくれてる。
松本零士先生は今は星の海で揺蕩っているのでしょうか?
（戦闘空母は相変わらずかっこいいね、3段空母は新造時の旧帝国海軍の赤城・加賀の3段飛行甲板に益々似て来たw特に前部砲塔）
原作は松本零士氏じゃないよ。メカデザイン、キャラクターデザインで参加し、作品に大きくかかわり、その後コミック版を書いたけど、原作者じゃない。
補足すると、音楽担当の宮川泰氏が証言しているのですよ、曰く、西崎義展氏が企画書を持って来てヤマトのコンセプトを涙ながらに語ったというのに押された。
一方松本零士先生は、当時話題性の大きくなっていた先生の描くキャクターの魅力に惹かれた西崎氏が招致した、というもの。
メカ設定などについては、スタジオぬえの面々と松本零士先生の功績であるし、松本先生がアニメを作りたくてそれまで得た知識を打ち込んだ結果、30分アニメにも拘らず一時間くらいの絵コンテを切り、泣く泣く切り詰めたというエピソードが盛りだくさんなのです。

この火力ならゼルグート級一等航宙戦闘艦の艦正面に主砲を命中させても致命傷を与えれるレベルだと思う！
アンドロメダの主砲と速射性とヤマトの主砲の貫通力、威力を掛け合わせたらガトランティスにもその一隻でも対等に話題あえると思うw
