I was widowed at 55 years of age. Eighteen years later God has me still in my home. I was a stay at home mom and no major skills so for a couple of years I cleaned houses. Still don't understand how God has kept me in my home all these years. I just know I am grateful to Him.

@maureendietz, I was widowed last year and NEVER handled any financial matters before my husband’s death. With God’s help I’m learning to manage what I have wisely. I’m able to stay in my home, I’m also debt free and that allows me to live abundantly on what most would consider a modest income. I’m so, so very grateful.🙏🏼

I’m 23 and disabled so don’t make too much money, but I’m starting to make better decisions with what I do have and your channel keeps me positive about it - even excited to start saving for my future children so they’ll be better off. Being thankful for what I do have today is how I stay sane living in poverty. The best way I feel good is making sure my apartment is always tidy. I wake up, make my bed, and boil some juniper or cedar that I pick from a bush outside my home. Put some tobacco down that I get from my native friendship centre to show gratitude for what the earth can provide. I iron my clothes. Keep a (reusable) lint brush around for any cat hair and a spritz of cologne before leaving the house. Always makes me feel great even in a pair of Walmart jeans and a thrifted top. I shower every other day to save on water, but keep cheap baby wipes to freshen up. Get a jar of Noxzema skin cleanser that lasts months - wash my face/brush my teeth/floss daily. Another thing that helps is stocking up on socks. Wear a pair for the day, and by evening when it’s time to put loungewear on get a fresh pair of socks with indoor shoes/slippers. I got a nice pair of indoor shoes on sale that are machine washable. Then on Sundays, my weekly laundry day, I put them in with my load of laundry and always feel clean.
It’s not about how much you have or its monetary worth. It’s the pride you take in it and gratitude you show. That will be shown through the way you care for yourself, your belongings, and the beings around you. ♥️

Being around like minded people helps. Most of my family are just huge spenders and tend to make fun of me for not thinking like they do. If we have food, clothing, shelter, and transportation we have more than a lot of people in this world.

One year my mother in law was moving to another home and she was getting rid of her 6 totes of yarn. She let me go through it and I took enough yarn to fill 3 of the big black bags. Our church does a lot of community outreach. I didn’t like going out but I used the yarn I knit, crocheted hats to be given way. I was able to make 100 men’s, 100 ladies and 100 children and babies hats. I took 9 months to make 2 to 3 a day. Knowing that yarn was used to keep homeless or just in need of a helping hand. I like to watch you tube to learn new crafts. I enjoy watching you and Paul.

Gratitude is everything. There is a saying..."Some people could be given a field of roses and only see the thorns. Others could be give a single weed and only see the wildflower in it. Perception is a key component to gratitude."
Gratitude pays it forward in joy in your life. Well at least it has mine.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm a millennial mom in CA and my husband of almost 5 years is finishing college debt free. His truck died last month and my car is falling apart. Sometimes I feel like I'm behind in life because I'm 34 and life at 34 isn't supposed to look like this, but I know that that's a lie and it isn't from Jesus. Debt free is totally worth it. And I was gifted a lot of preschool stuff from my big sister to begin homeschooling my four year old. So much that I'm sure I'll have some things left over for my two year old. The list of blessings just keep coming to my mind. I am so blessed.

We walk, swim or surf everyday and live in maybe 200 square feet. I don't think life in your sixties is supposed to look like this either, but.....we have our health and hope the crazy world settles down soon. Enjoy your little ones, they grow up fast.

Hi Emmy and Paul. Loved the video. Great ideas! Want to share something with you that happened to hubby and me this morning that has never happened before. He needed fasting labwork and did not get home until after 9 am so we had planned on treating ourselves today and went out to breakfast. After our meal, our waitress came over and told us someone had paid our check!!! I sat there and cried. Couldn't believe that would happen. I told the checker at the grocery store and she thanked me for telling her that story. Said even though it did not happen to her, it helps restore some faith in people. When I leave my house, I always think of ways to bless others, even if it is letting someone ahead on the road. What a day - something I will never forget. With all the bad news, etc that is around, there is alot of good things and hope to concentrate on. Have a great week.

I went to Africa on a mission trip 12 years ago. One morning we were praying before beginning the day and a local man was praying and he thanked God for his bed. That totally made me stop...I dont know that I'd ever thanked God for my bed. Many of us in the world are so blessed and take things as simple as having a bed to sleep in for granted. May we remember to be thankful for everything! God is good and always provides.

Great video!!! It really is the little things that matter the most- when i think of past holidays, like Christmas, i cant recall the gifts, but i can remember all the fun and chaos of 18 people in Grandmas small three bedroom home for five days!!!.... staying up late, people sleeping everywhere, lots of laughter around the small kitchen table, bringing cookies up from the basement freezer, snowball fights-and on it goes. Most of the fun was free!!
I also agree social media is depressing for most people. Rarely, does anyone post pics of the family argument, or when the toilet overflowed! People selectively post only the perfect, smiling pics, when we all know that’s not reality!
Keep the great content coming, and im sending hugs and prayers to you, Paul, and that sweet Dixie!

My Grammy always quoted the Bible, "be he content with what you have". When in doubt, think of it in terms of work hours. If something is going to cost me 20 hours, and I'm only working part time, it's easier to think of those new shoes as a savings goal instead of a true need (when I have perfectly acceptable shoes in my closet.)

Wow such incredible messages about being grateful. At a minimum, I am deeply grateful for having legs that can walk and eyes that can see, for such wonderful parents who taught me values to be a good person that will someday live beyond them. Thx for the reminder not to compare; so true! And to really appreciate the world outside my concrete jungle. I love the video of your yard. Messages today are priceless and you're a blessing. Biscuits were vacant from store shelves, Food Banks loading me down with rolls, I used some with Chicken Ala King in a can or cans of sausage gravy, both I bought for a dollar a can. I talked with store manager at Winco recently & it was him that brought up the problem getting canned biscuits. Winco shelves are looking better now but you never know when shortages will come again. When I get to much at Food Banks, Winco's parking lot is a great place to give away food to people that need it.

Hi Emmy and Paul, I'm fairly new to your channel, and I'm slowly getting through your videos. I love this post. I truly believe that it is so important to be thankful for all we have. Thank you for reinforcing this ethos, I really appreciate it and you. I too love The Great British Bake Off...I am in the UK and it is a regular thing to watch here.
I am also so passionate about growing my own food. I only have a small garden, but it is amazing how many fruit and vegetables you can grow in a small space and in pots. There is nothing nicer than going outside and picking your own food, I love it! Thank you for your post and your advice. God Bless you today.

Emmy, I, Love, Love, Love this video! Thank you for making it! So many good things to take away from it! I do pray, to thank God over my food, as well as thanking Him for the day. But, sometimes, I feel with my "imperfect self", that it almost becomes "perfunctory" in my gratitude. Maybe it's depression? Who knows? But, your video has helped me look at different ways to be thankful & grateful to God. As you mentioned, about doing outdoor activities. This brought to my mind, a song "The Best Things in Life are Free" from the 1947 MGM movie "Good News" with June Allyson & Peter Lawford. It really is a sweet movie, lots of fun music. I also, enjoyed the point you made about doing for others as much as we can. But I really enjoyed the point about, Our journey is "just" that, our journey & no one else's. We need to focus on what we can do or improve & not to Compare our self with others. Doing that can stagnant us from growing & not flowing into the direction we want for ourselves. Thank you again Emmy & Paul. May you both have a beautiful, blessed day!

I was watching/listening to this video again and #4 sparked something. Yes never be envious or compare your life with anyone else....especially if you are looking at their "life" that is visible to others...we never know what is really going on....they may not be as happy or financially stable as they look. They actually might be in debt or have no savings and will have to work forever. People might be unhappy inside but "look" all put together. Also, many frugal and financially stable people don't flaunt and need "flashy" houses, cars, furniture, jewelry, clothes, etc...
Family, friends, God are most important.
Oh...Blowing bubbles is fun and relaxing....cheap entertainment too...like your kite flying...
Looking forward to seeing your Fridays video....💕
