Would like to tell anyone being faced with higher copays for meds to try Good RX. Our insurance didn't cover a new med. It would have cost me $2538 a month which I can not afford. My pharmacist said let's see if Good Rx might help. The same med cost me $28.60. Thanks for all your sensible advise.

My favorite snack recipe is a shrimp dip. Leave out an 8 oz package of plain cream cheese to soften to room temperature, once that's at room temperature put it in a bowl and mix it with one full jar of chili sauce. You'll want to use a hand blender until it's all mixed together. Make sure you're using chili sauce and not cocktail sauce. Once that's all mixed together add in 1 lb of cooked shrimp. Cut the shrimp into small pieces. Mix it all in together. Serve with your favorite cracker. I usually use wheat thins. It is delicious

Four or five years ago, a coworker of my daughter-in-law was retiring to AZ and he and his wife spent their last Thanksgiving at her house before moving. They brought queso in a new red crockpot, along with chips and cubes of different breads. Delicious! We all spoiled our appetites snacking. They left the crockpot and the recipe as a thank you gift for being invited. It’s a great memory of Bob and Judy and a fabulous recipe to take to any gathering.

The best thing about this channel is your happy banter with your husband. Full of love and respect.
What's sad is during hard times instead sticking together and pulling resources to pull through some couple ended splitting up exacerbating the problems.
Now they ended up poor AND broken family.
Instead of 1 house now they need 2 , doubling expenses they cannot afford in the first place.

Oh, I am trying the roasted garbanzo beans! I like ranch seasoning oyster crackers. 9 oz. Crackers, 1 cup melted butter, 1/4 cup dry ranch seasoning mix. Pour butter over crackers & toss to coat. Stir in dry ranch seasoning mix. Spread on a cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. I buy store brand crackers for 99 cents a bag. Makes a great snack!

    Hi Emmy!
Thanks for so many great tips!
I live in the UK and prices are rising fast! We need to start staying in so I have been to the thrift store and bought some books for the winter season!
We celebrate Thanksgiving in our house although we have no American connection! It is good for us all to spend some time just being thankful for what we have no matter where we are from! I agree with you about the pie crusts! So much easier to buy them!
I also try not to go to the Black Friday sales as I find it odd that we spend the day before being thankful for everything we have and then go rushing out to buy more stuff we don’t really need!
    Much love from the UK!
    Sheila

It feels so good to see you! To your question: Every year my brothers-in-law get sweet roastet almonds or cereals in chocolate from me in a jar. It is cheap, easy to make and so yummy.
You are so right, back to the basics is so important. This month we could not stick to our budget. The energy costs are rising, the same with the health insurance. And on top our sweet old cat (she is 11 years old) was very ill. After many examinations at the vet we got a bill about 800 Euro! We have a category for our cat about 25 Euro per month, but that was not enough. Our cat is now fine again, but she needs medications and expensive special foods for the next 6 weeks. So, come back to the basic is what we will do. I do as much as I can from scratch and homemade. We are now eliminating the organic food, because we have to stock up our costs for energy, health insurance and special cat food. BUT: We are still satisfied with all what we have. My daughter and I have autoimmune diseases and we are doing well in spite of everything (with our medications). We are blessed! To be satisfied is an attitude ( as you often told us, dear Emmy and Paul). Do you know, that I watch your videos severeal times? YOU ARE SUCH A BLESSING!

I appreciate your comments on pricing/shortage issues so much!!!
Honestly some things are rising and some things aren’t available.
Making it work the best we can, you just encouraged me so much!
I feel like there is such a pendulum people swing on, either saying everything is horrible, prices are skyrocketing and we are all gonna starve…and then the other end that’s like it’s fine, stuff is not rising, just calm down.
But nope, Emmy and Paul have landed in the land of sense, have spoken in love, given ideas to help, and shared a delicious, simple, frugal recipe.

My Grandma's fool proof pie crust recipe- 4 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 2 cups cold butter, 1 cup ice water with 1 tablespoon of sugar mixed in. In the mixer, cut butter into flour and salt, until butter is pea sized and then slowly add sugared ice water until it makes a stiff dough. Put in fridge until cool. Don't touch with your hands until you have to roll out. I have never had a problem with this piecrust. Oh, this makes 4 crusts total.

Good morning Emmy from our farm New Hampshire! Oh I remember my mother's Sunday dinner! She would take a chuck steak, add fresh mushrooms, sliced onions, cream of mushroom soup, wrap it in foil and set the oven timer. When we came home from church, the house was filled with wonderful smells! .My husband, brother-in-law and I have been basically staying put on the farm ( 2 properties) for two years. Nothing is changing until the pandemic changes.
We three will be celebrating Thanksgiving at our farm cottage, grateful for what we have. Farming has helped us be more suststainable, but we still go without some favorite foods. They are either too expensive or not available. Yes, we are watching gas prices climb, but we go virtually nowhere! What we do use is diesel for farm equipment. Our propane went up 25%, but we also heat with wood, which is a blessing.
I enjoy your channel Emmy. It gives no nonsense advice on how to save money and still live your life! ~ Diane

For a group, we make roasted beet hummus and roasted red pepper hummus with vegetables for dipping. Really flavorful and colorful and even better than what you buy in the store. For movie or game night, put a handful of popping corn in a brown paper lunch bag. Tear a couple of small vent holes and fold over the top. Microwave for 2.5 minutes and put in a bowl. Sprinkle lightly with olive oil and garlic salt. Always a hit.

I being on my own, prepared my winter pantry in September and October on sale items! I stocked up on dry beans, cici or garbanzo, cranberry beans, (most like Berlotti beans,), black beans and red lentils. They had a wonderful sale on on Muir's roasted diced tomatoes, which I stocked up on. I make vegetable stock from leftover scraps of onions and carrots and onions and other vegetables when I am cooking! I also got some good chicken legs and thighs, which is great for dinners and chicken stock for good homemade chicken noodle soup. Dollar tree has wonderful Pede brand raviolis for $1.00, along with some good frozen vegetables of good variety for soups and stew, which I freeze.!

I enjoyed the video footage of your yard. What a beautiful yard you both have. You talked about eating kale.
My wonderful food memory was kale soup that was made with vegetables and linguica. Linguica is a Portuguese pork sausage, that can be mild or hot. When I came home from school and smelled the kale soup, I knew it was going to be a delicious supper. My mother was born in Portugal, and would also make a special sweet bread that tasted great with the kale soup. Even now I can taste it. Next shopping trip I am going to buy kale. It is hard to get linguica in the south, so I checked on line a bought some. YUM! The garbanzo beans roasted looked fantastic. God bless.😍 Easy snack recipe for the holidays that I remember from my childhood was date balls. Dates pressed into a paste add raisins and crushed nuts like walnuts, almonds, pecans, and coconut, then roll into bite size balls, roll date balls into
powder sugar , so they won't stick together. Serve on a tray.

Hi Emmy and Paul. Loved the video. Here's a tip we use: When we use something out of the freezer or the pantry, I try to replace it the next time I grocery shop, especially if the item is on sale. That way, I don't have to replenish alot at a time plus the prices are usually lower than if I wait a month or so. It seems like every week our grocery prices increase. We would buy a loaf of sandwich bread for 99 cents. It increased to $1.09 for several weeks, and now it is $1.49 and this is just the generic store brand ... a 50% increase in less than 2 months. We do eat alot of pasta and use the meal stretchers of rice and beans. That's not really a change for us ... we only eat a little meat and don't eat beef, but that's how we have eaten for years. Enjoy the weekend. God Bless.

I love how you approach the rising costs of goods/services. We may all have to adjust our spending habits, but we all have so much to be thankful for. My favorite holiday appetizer is Jimmy Carters cheese ring. It is cheddar cheese, roasted pecans, grated onion, and mayonnaise. (Can doctor it if desired). But then you serve it with strawberry jam. However, I like to serve it with my homemade cranberry sauce. It's delicious. Also, a garlic pimento and cheese recipe I like a lot tends to make an appearance. As for the kids, we always make chex mix and we cut brownies in triangles, and doctor them with other bits and baubles and make them look like reindeer. My aunt always makes a happy birthday Jesus cake for Santa to partake in on Christmas eve. 😀

Thank you for sharing those birds! ❤
We not only had Sunday dinners together as I grew up...we also had supper together every evening. It was a very rare event that one of us was missing.
OH...those roasted chick peas! Looks SO wonderful! I have a can of garbanzo beans I'm going to try that on!
I don't really do holiday snacks. The only one I ever did was candy canes, but I'm diabetic now. No candy canes for me! And no extra carbs like cakes, pies, crackers, cookies.....😒. No Chex Mix, no ice cream...😢. It's alright. I make it through just fine. I'm happy! I wish you and Paul joy and blessings, too! ❤ ☺🎁🦃 I wish Dixie Belle all the socks her heart desires!

I make a shrimp ball with just a few ingredients! Rinse and drain a small can of shrimp! Cats and dogs love the liquid over their dry food! I take a few of the prettiest to put aside to garnish. I smash the rest up in a bowl and add one 8 ounce softened cream cheese. Mix well. shape into ball. Chill. Before serving I frost with ketchup and horseradish combined with a squirt of lemon juice to make a homemade cocktail sauce. Garnish with the saved tiny shrimp and a bit of parsley or celery leaf! I serve with Aldi woven wheat biscuits! I also buy the cream cheese there because it is so much less! Everyone loves this and asks for the recipe. It comes together quickly, too! …Deborah Gnagey

I did buy a decent size canister of mixed nuts today , I think they were $8, something. We try to eat a small handful each day, so yes that was a splurge. My sister gifted us fresh tomatoes, 1/3 of a huge cabbage head, some apples and 2- red/ yellow peppers. Grateful for such a generous gift. Yes- if you want to save money you just might have to change what you eat. Blessing for a wonderful Thanksgiving. We don’t do many snacks but we do enjoy Chex mix ( not very frugal) but we so enjoy it.

Hi Emmy and Paul and Dixie Belle! Thanks for another great video! You're right; we all have to be scrutinizing our grocery and gas budgets even closer as prices keep rising. I was actually out once this week which is a little unusual for me since I rarely go out but since I had to go to the doctor I also took the opportunity to run some errands in the area to batch my trips together and not have to go out separately. Emmy please don't feel bad about the pie crust! My mom quit making homemade pie crust 40 years ago. It was a win for the family because we actually got pie a little more often! One tip I will give you if you make two crusted pies like an apple or a cherry pie, you can purchase the deep dish shells and use those to fill the pie and then buy the regular depth crust and use those for the tops because you always have leftover dough on the top and would have even more so if you used another deep dish crust for it. True it doesn't save you a ton of money but 15 or 20 cents here and there over 20 items across your grocery shopping does add up so just a little something we used to do to stretch those store-bought pie crusts a little further. Thanks for the beautiful fall footage. I'm going to rewatch the garbanzo bean session again and maybe give them a try. I do have a bit of a taste for Ruffles potato chips that I picked up when I was in the rehab center after my stroke. I used to rarely ever buy chips and now I seem to have them on my grocery list every trip. They are obviously loaded with salt and not good for you so if I can find a more natural alternative that still gives me some crunch and flavor it's definitely worth a try. And for a dollar for a whole big can of garbanzo beans and a few spices and a drizzle of olive oil that's pretty reasonable considering most large bags of chips are around $4. I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving with your loved ones and thank you again for all of your wonderful videos. You bring such joy to all of your subscribers! Special hi to Dixie Belle from her friends Gigi and Belle in Nebraska! Our favorite recipe is a cheese ball made with cream cheese and the Buddig thin sliced beef, green onions and garlic powder. Mix together and chill a few hours. Serve with Ritz or another cracker of your choice.

I always love your intros. The birds are always fascinating. We don't have cardinals in our neck of the woods so it's such a treat to see one. I'm definitely going to try your roasted chickpea recipe, Emmy. I have a can of garbanzo beans calling out to me from the cupboard. I've been shopping my freezer, refrigerator and pantry lately so I haven't been to the grocery store since Oct 31st. My refrigerator is on its last leg and I hope to use up all the frozen items in it before it dies. It has served me well for over 30 years.

My dog takes my socks and underwear lol. A frugal treat that I make is : I melt peanut butter with white chocolate (or choc chips whatever you have). Then I mix it with cheerios and pretzels and put it into a muffin pan. Sometimes I add peanuts and/or mini choc chips on top for decoration, and freeze. The amount of each is up to you. However, the more chocolate the better they stick together!

A friend of mine taught me to make this finger snack. Cut a date partway through put some mustard in the centre, wrap a slice of bacon around the date, secure with a cocktail stick grill until bacon is crispy. Yummy. My all time favourite is a ritz salty cracker with cream cheese spread on it and a blob fish roe or caviar if you can afford!

To be honest we've done and tried everything thats possible while staying at home since March 2020 with my now 6 year. Im homeschooling, cooking from scratch and its incredibly stressfull and monotonous. All free attractions like the bookmobile cancelled. virtual library activities dont do justice. Too cold and icy to take a walk in the winter. Watched every rerun on tv, reread every book. I feel like an animal living in a zoo doing the same thing every day. The basics count just lockdowns make it so hard. I can say Ive learned how to do once a month grocery shopping that is working out well.
