You hit a sore spot with me when you mentioned donating clothing and not to donate worn out stuff. My motto is, if I wouldn't buy it or wear it, then I do not donate it. . Every year, the Boy Scouts have Scouting for Food where they put large grocery bags out at each house the first Saturday in November and go back the next Saturday to pick up. The idea is for people to put non perishable foods in those bags. The food goes to our local food bank. Before the food goes to the food bank, all of the bags are brought to a local church family life center where adults and scouts would sort the food. I was always disappointed when food that was donated would be way out of date, rusty cans, storage bags with rice or pasta in it, partially used items. Some of it was obviously pantry clean outs. I feel that if it is not good enough for my family, then it is not good enough to feed another family. No matter our situation, we are all the same at the foot of the cross!
Absolutely this! Just had a discussion with my sister who sorts for an organization up here in Ontario. People donate animal urine stained clothing, ripped clothing, shoes with holes and food items that are outdated by years etc. Shameful really. 🙁
I was helping at our food bank that also has a store which donated clothing can be selected by those in need. One of the volunteers came across dirty used underwear in the pile. Yuck! Yes….only donate items you would want to still wear or use. Junk is junk and should be trashed .
I love your channel. My mother in law always splurges for Christmas. She always asks me for a list. I tell her Freezer bags, aluminum foil, throw away pans, dawn dish soap. She buys these every year for me. I do many freezer meals. This way I enough to do my freezer meals for almost a year. It's my favorite 🎁 gift. She always laughs because she feels weird wrapping them. But she knows I am happy.
I have to tell you, your final blessing at the end of your videos is so comforting and sweet. I smile every time, and I really do feel the love you are sending. Hugs to you, Paul, and Dixie.
The footage is splendid with guitar music in the background. I enjoy the sound of switching position on the guitar. So peaceful and therapeutic! I don’t order drink at restaurants, just water. I drink tea at home and don’t have soft drink or bottled juice. I delay my want and most of the time I don’t want any more. I thought about buying a cordless vacuum, the nice D brand and I knew my husband would buy it if I tell him. I ended up using a small broom and pan when I don’t want to haul the vacuum. I learned so much frugal tips from you and Paul, you guys are like sweet friends I meet weekly.
I watched this again to reinforce these tips. I used to teach computers at a university. If you use Excel (I use the free version with Libre Office,) put your expenses under a heading (Electric, Food, et cetera.) You can select/highlight the headings and amounts, and then click the chart button. A chart (a pie chart, for example) will be instantly created, so you can see a visual representation of where your money is going; great to compare month-to-month progress. It's easy, and there are plenty of RUclips videos on the steps and customization.
Our local salvation army actually accepts clothing that is stained or torn. You separate them out from the good stuff and they sell them to textile companies to be recycled. I have no problem not eating out. I love to cook, love my own cooking and can make food much cheaper at home. I also don't have a problem picking up gently used items at the curb. That's how I got my kitchen chairs and you can't tell by looking at them:)
Ways I save money - cut husband's hair, do my own mowing lawn, snow removal ( most of the time), buy used clothing or go to local cotton shirt manufacturer outlet store sales (t shirts $ 1). Pick up items set out on curb. Totally agree with your comment regarding bringing items to thrift shops. Keep great videos coming. Please feature Dixie belle more. Yes I am a dog lover.
Buying new clothes. I hate clothes shopping. Everything is so ugly and overpriced. I like a few quality things that I wear over and over. Can't imagine buying anything trendy since most of what I see in stores looks like hooker wear from the low rent district of town. Nothing is left to the imigination. Now get me in a used bookstore and the sky is the limit on what I might spend. I limit myself to $10 per visit which is a sack full. Loved your tips. Not that into on line shopping which saves me big bucks.
Our local library accepts used books & then sells them. Paperbacks for $1 & hardbacks for $2. That's where I buy my books, & I don't feel guilty about it!
I love the reframing our minds you talked about -to change what I say to myself that I choose not to buy this rather than I can’t . This helps us feel like we have control of our situation. When my hubby wanted to buy me a beautiful ring yesterday for our 26th anniversary… I knew his heart since he couldn’t afford a really nice one when he asked me in 1994~ I said “no ring, what I want is time with you and the comfort of financial peace. We have are eyes on retiring early too like you and Paul. My ring may not be from Tiffany’s like the one he wanted to buy me, but Emi the heart and loyalty he pledged back then makes my ring my favorite priceless procession. Thank you for your videos ❤️
Great video content! Thank you so much! One small way we save money is I stopped drinking Diet Coke almost 2 years ago. I was always buying a soda at the drive thru or gas station whenever I was out. I bet that has saved us at least 50 dollars a month. I’m embarrassed to say I was spending that much on a soda addiction. Now I drink water and I do drink a little coffee still.
I have bowls and containers with covers to avoid plastic wrap and foils. Good for my pocket book and the environment. For example, when letting bread rise, I use a damp towel or a bowl cover - not the plastic wrap.
Do not feel bad about regifting.if it's something you will not or cannot use, pass it on.why keep it?so it gathers dust in the back of a closet? It's meant to be used.
In my budget, I highlight in red my unneeded expenditures & highlight infrequent items (glasses, gifts), in green. It gives me an idea at the end of month where I can budget better.
I save the change, wrap it and deposit it into my Granddaughter's account. Also, have one of those huge plastic pretzel "jars" filled with pennies. That'll be wrapped and deposited in the younger Granddaughter's account. Amazon doesn't work for me because, unfortunately, I shop so much I can rattle my numbers off in my sleep. Also, haven't found anyone here in SC that will bundle with homeowners. Glad you were able to do that with the house in SC. Clothing is something I don't need. I'm a Tshirt and comfy pants person and then in the winter, I throw a flannel over the tshirt. Easy.
I will buy dry clean only. I fold the article to fit into a pillow slip and seal it with an elastic band. Place it in the washing machine on Delicate and maybe partially dry it and then hang to dry. It works well with a minimum amount of pressing if necessary. One coat is cashmere ..
I have NO problem heading out to discount grocery stores to "cherry pick" their sale items. Some friends and family tell me that they would never go into those stores because they may be in a bad section of town. I have never had a problem going in the morning hours. I will hit up multiple stores to get the best deals, where most other people I know limit themselves to only one store for all their shopping. Grocery prices are still not that bad here if you shop smart! I totally agree with you on the donating only items that are in good shape. When I am in a thrift store, I am disgusted at what people donate - stained and ripped clothing, or they use the stores as a dumping ground for large items they don't want by leaving them outside of the door after hours. Just shameful. Loved your intro, as always! Can't wait for Friday 😁
Wow! To shop after Christmas?! That’s actually an idea ive NEVER heard of on RUclips! Or never heard of ever!! Really smart. You can celebrate the reason any day 😉💚 and u can enjoy gifts any day also🎄☃️🎉
I save money by eating at home. I enjoy cooking, loved it as a child. I also exercise at home, dropped the gym as soon as they opened back up. Many are still getting sick with viruses at gyms. I don't miss it.
Same with me (my husband and I) - it’s effortless for us to eat at home and not eat out. Eating out rarely to never enters our minds as options. We also don’t go to shopping malls or big departments stores unless there is an absolute need to. Both of these habits save us plenty of money.
It is always heart warming to see Emmy and Paul❤. My answer to your question is: when we were on vacation in Denmark last month I kept (I really did) the paper bags from the bakery. Every morning someone of us went to the danish bakery and came back with two big paper bags with bread. Now I have 16 of them. And they are great for storing carrots in them. Otherwise carrots often going soften quickly, but not in a paper bag. Save here a little and there a little adds up!
You said you and your son save change and then cash it in. If you put it in a change machine, it takes a cut. Do not waste money, go to the bank and get paper rolls. It is fun and can help children learn to count.
Emmy and Paul I watched your video again, and this time wrote down your money saving tips. My memory is not what it used to be. I especially liked Paul's tip number 15 a gentle touch, I bang my computer keys also, many years ago when I was 20 ,I slamed the door of my 1981 Grand La mans car, the windows were roll up windows, and the window came off the track, luckly my dad was able to fix it. I also liked when you said to track your purchases, I found a mistake on my credit card statement and got the money taken off my card. You talked about ATM charges. The only time I use the ATM, is my banks ATM, with no charges. Really enjoyed watching your channel again. It is so nice to meet genuine and friendly people. God bless you and your husband taking time to help others. You both have made a you tube friend for life. 😍🤩
These are really great tips. I used the cash envelopes when I was a single mom. Along the lines of changing your mental attitude to save money, I would disagree with you about alcohol, unless someone has a problem. Fancy mixers are usually more expensive, and they just add empty calories. If one can get to the mental place that food is fuel, then they can choose alcoholic drinks that serve a specific purpose, like helping to digest their meal. These types of drinks are simple, usually involve cheap mixers like soda or water, and are served as ONE measured cocktail before or after a meal. I think most of us remember our parents or grandparents having a cocktail hour, and I don't remember them ever having more than one ounce of alcohol per day. Major holidays and illness were the exception. They all lived well into their 90s. One ounce of alcohol is cheaper than 8 ounces (or more) of specialty mixers.
I have an allotment and grow a lot of my own food. I really wouldn't want to give this up. Thank you for yet another wonderful, positive video. You are lovely!
I’m a member of a food coop and we get a pickup weekly. It helps tremendously on our food bill. I do a lot of cooking and baking with what we have. I just love your videos!
Also, you can select your daily expenses from December AND January, for example, and click your custom chart button to compare how you are doing towards your goals part-way through the month, too. You can customize alerts and charts to see patterns too, like you tend to overspend on XYZ on Saturdays. Yes, you can customize to send an alert to your phone, but I think that's excessive for what most people would need.
It's easy for me and normal to use my bike to do the groceries, of course living in the Netherlands helps since it's the size of a stamp ;) but still I won't take the car when I can go by my bike. It's a big one with bags on the back to store groceries in and I've a basket on the front to put in the lighter items. It's also easy for me to use my own skills. Yesterday I changed the batteries from my bike lights. I don't bring it in to the repair shop, I just take my tools and fix it myself. It cost me only 20 minutes and that's money earned to me. So I would say, learn skills, invest time to learn them. There are so much helpful tutorials on line to fix things that don't need a repairmen/woman. If you buy something that needs steamed (clothes) then you can hang it in your bathroom while you shower so the damp will help to straight wrinkels out. I've found some gorgeous cashmere pullovers in the thriftstore last weeks and it says no washing and dry clean. Well on my washing machine there is a button for wool clothes and I've options on it to adjust the cycle to 400 and also the temp as well and since I'm familiar with wool items I know what to do. So I washed them and lay them flat to dry and there was no problem at all. If you buy an item in the thriftstore like clothes check if all the buttons are on there, if there is one lost check if there is a spare on in the side/lining of the item often there is and then you can replace it and it's fine again. Often when the buttons are not up to your standard just replace them and your item will look lovely again and to your liking. Also if you do get rid of clothes that are not for donation anymore, take off the buttons from it and store them in a tin and then when you do want to replace a button on clothes you can check first if you've a similar one or perhaps enough to replace all. I am a woman and I have lots of skills in my pocket, I can do handcrafts but also the crafts that often are thought of that men should do. I think that's a no no. I have a husband and a son who are skilled as well but I only ask them for help when I lack the strenght not the brains ;) Take care and sorry for my long reply. hugs, Vleer.
We changed our car insurance from State Farm to AAA and saved $600.00 dollars, but kept State Farm for home insurance company because it covered more !!!
I agree about not donating clothing - or anything - that isn't good enough for us. The same with donating food. I always donated name brand food even though we eat lots and lots of store brands ourselves. (Actually, we stopped donating food and give food banks cash. They know what they need. If you donate boxes of Kraft mac and cheese the person receiving it may not have milk and/or butter, for example.) You reminded me to cash in our change just in time for Christmas! The painless way we save money is to buy store brands of most things. In most cases it's not a sacrifice at all.
A gentle touch. Don’t slam the microwave door. Many have sensor near or in the door that is cheaper to replace the microwave than repair. I learned this after replacing the new microwave twice in three years. Love Dixie’s pink crate.
Hi Amy and Paul!love and blessings from India. The last tip from Paul is absolutely right, like when you move around the house maybe carrying furniture,I always remind myself or others to be careful as we may crack the margins on the walls, and it looks very bad later.Or the hinges from windows or doors may get spoiled. So being gentle saves you money.Another point is to keep your hands oil or stain free,as you may touch walls, curtains, cabinets, cupboards etc and leave dirty marks, and then it requires energy, time and money ,extra efforts to clean it. When I drive and I come across red lights, always put your car in off mode as the fuel keeps burning and so your money,so put the car off and save those extra pennies. Lots of outings and hugs to Dixie darling.
Deepa great tips!! Thank you so much! We would always tell our son when he was young to not touch the walls with dirty hands LOL!! Many blessings dear friend!
Along with insurance, ask what is covered. Need home repair such as hvac?foundation?things of that nature?ask the home owner's policy agency who they would use.some places will nullify for not using their contractors. It's also important with medical insurance.if i'm paying $500 a month for health insurance, but still have to pay for tests, labwork, hospital, doctor, dental, vision, hearing and meds,exactly...why am i paying for insurance?
@@FrugalMoneySaver i'm doing well. Stores in my area are looking really picked over. Looted .to be honest. Gift ideas.gift cards such as a visa gift card.impersonal, but the person can get exactly what they want
Great tips! I agree especially with not paying ATM fees. Our bank offers an option to "Keep the Change" where each debit card purchase is rounded up to the next dollar amount. It really does add up, and then you don't have coins to roll. Also, putting together a budget for each paycheck and having a plan for our money. Not to say we are perfect, but we just keep trying if we mess up and overspend. Having conversations with your spouse about the budget / upcoming expenses is important too. So many times I will put together a budget and forget to include an expense.
I don’t want that. What a great way to think!!!! Thanks for another encouraging video! I find not buying clothes or home decor very effortless. However, I struggle with spending too much on extracurricular activities for the kids!!
My daughter did the 5 dollar savings to save for a trip in 10 months she a nice amount for spending money for a vacation 😊🍁🍂 great video as usual….I’ve washed dry clean only clothes in cold water and dry flat did it with a cashmere sweater came out beautiful
One way we have managed to save money is to apply for a local grocery store credit card that awards you fuel and grocery points for using it but we treat it like a debt card and pay it off each month. We have earned over $300 in free groceries and fuel a year by just using it like cash.
Autumnal? I thought I was the only person who ever used that word! 😄 I have a suggestion for your final tip. Change it to “A gentle touch saves much.” Who can’t use a little more lyrical poetry in life? 😉
I save money on the toothpaste. most people will throw a tube of toothpaste away and there is still at least two weeks worth of toothpaste in the tube. I cut it at the end open it up and I scrape out the toothpaste with my brush I just use it myself but it does make the toothpaste last for about two more weeks
I do my own nails. I've only gone to the nail salon three times in my life. Twice my daughters took me there and paid for it, and once a friend of mine got me a gift certificate for my birthday. I cut my own hair, and my hubbys hair. We don't eat out a lot. I would rather cook at home. There's many things, cause I'm 65 and do most of the old school things! 🙂
With online shopping, hubby uses a prepaid debit card for online purchases.once the order is made and shipped,he deletes info.cuts card up.that may be helpful
Emmy, you are so right. OMG I spent so much money on Amazon recently. Like 1600.00 in just 3 months. It was just too easy. Add to cart. Buy now. You know what I mean. So mad at myself. I got pissed and paid it all off. And then I did what you suggested. I deleted all my cards from my Amazon account..... So now I will have to enter it each time I make a purchase.... This will help me a lot. Another tip, I recently received my car insurance bill. I get them quarterly. I noticed a 7.00 charge for them to bill me this way. Oh my goodness, that is 28.00 extra per year just to be billed every 3 months. So when it is time for renewal, I will just pay for the entire year... Also, a win for me this month, I finished paying off my new furniture, way early, so no interest will be due. Yaaa!
Paul is doing great camera work. Thanks for more money saving tips! I have no problem saving money on clothes, eating out and groceries. :) MUAH Dixie!!!
I’ve cleared 2 relatives houses after they passed. Sorting things into , sell, donate, keep and distribute between relatives and throw away. We spend a lifetime acquiring and paying for stuff and and to be honest I bet only 15% in both cases was actually kept.
This is a great video, as always. I totally agree with all of your tips, changing your mindset is a very powerful change. Lots of love to you, Paul and Dixie. ⚘
Paul’s tip cracked me up, my Mother in Laws nick name was Cram & Jam. Then she would “fix” things when they broke and that would lead to glue dripped & dried everywhere at best. Followed by trips to stores to replace all the broken appliances or what ever it was. It’s a very valid tip he made. I will say being “invited” into your home on videos your home looks lovingly cared for with vintage touches, not all new & broken. You have a very mild case of it apparently, most of us do. But to answer your question, clothing I have zero problem saving money on clothing. I simply can’t wrap my head around the big money people spend on clothes. In many ways food too, I’m not much younger and have never met anyone who could give me money saving tips on food. You have managed a couple times to do just that.
OMG! Paul’s tip! I should have been told this when I was 16 and was always dramatically exiting my boyfriends cars with an angry flourish and a slamming door! Also my ex was a black belt in numerous types of karate and trained religiously. He also did not know how to gently tap anything, the number of computer keyboards and cash registers and calculators he unintentionally broke and left for dead could take up a whole landfill! I will try harder on the slamming doors. These days they are so airtight it is so hard to know how much force they need! That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it!
Having worked in the sorting section of a thrift store it's sad to see what folks donate. We'd have to bundle the damaged stuff and put it in the dumpster (which had to be paid for). We didn't have the facilities to clean clothes before putting them out. Please wash stuff before donating and toss the damaged stuff in your already paid for trash service can.
Hi Emmy and Paul, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I really loved the beginning credits I live in North Carolina since 1989. But I grew up in Massachusetts. I miss seeing geese in ponds. There is nothing like the northeast weather. Loved your ideas to save money. Especially having a Christmas meal with friends and family, then gift give after Christmas with after Christmas sales. I always buy my Christmas decorations for next year, during the after Christmas sales, but never thought about gifts. I am 55 and had to retire early in February this year due to health reasons. I am now living on a pension and SSDI. Your channel is very friendly and personal. LOVE IT!😍 I know I can learn frugal tips and start my personal finance journey with your help. I am mortgage and debt free, but I definitely need assistance with my budgeting. I am so glad that I watched your channel. GOD bless.😍😊
Funny about the dry clean only items: I recently only took 1 item & was astounded it was $20 for that one item! Thank goodness they had sent me a $5 off coupon but when I called they said that’s how much 1 item costs! I usually brought 5-10 items at a time so didn’t really “notice”! I do now!!
I do your first tip forewer. I go to chek the price and if it is to high I just say nope I don't want it anymore, thank you. Even my doughters do it now 😄
We did after Christmas celebration on a need to one year. It was great, we got such deals, wish we had kept doing that. I have said many times; why do people donate rather than throw away these yucky things. If it says dry clean only- that item goes right back on the rack. It also makes the cost of that item enormous.
Love the necklace you're wearing in this video. It looks like it may be a vintage piece? Very pretty. I am going to take your advice and call my credit card company this weekend and see if they will lower my rate ... and the ATM? Wow, I recently had to use one, which I never do. I NEEDED cash and was at work. My only choice was to use the ATM. Not only did it cost me $2.95 to get my money out, but my bank charged me an additional $2.50 ... and I only got out $20! I couldn't believe it! Not going to get caught in that situation again! My money saving game is that anytime I get a quarter it gets put in a piggy bank. It's certainly not a lot, but it's just a little something I have that I don't touch ... I just keep adding to it. I also don't buy anything at the thrift store (only place I buy clothes) that is a dry clean only item. Nope. This was a great video ... really enjoyed it!
When it came time to renew our house insurance this year, our insurance agent thought maybe we could save some money by having our vehicles and house under the same provider. Our company here in Ontario hunts for the customer for the best premiums and sometimes that means you have different providers for different things. If that makes sense. I'm not sure if it's the same in US. So they asked our vehicle provider for an estimate to put our house with them as well and it saved us 1200.00 a year! I should have asked them to check on that I suppose but figured they were doing that. Could have saved way before now perhaps. Anyhow, we are thrilled !
Many years ago, when I still had a flipp phone, I found on my Bill that they charged mé for internet (which I didnt use). But I had to pay it(it was maybe 1 or 2 $) So I blocked all internet on that phone. Next month I got that 1 or 2 $ charged again! I went again to that store and thay wanted me to pay it. I told them that I blocked internet,! They were cought! I am wondring hove many ppl pay those 1 or 2 $ extra without knowing about it.
My birthday is December 23rd. My parents as soon as I could understand gave me money to spend after Christmas. They would also give me a 6 months Birthday present in June bought at the sale prices😄.
Before I got rid of my credit card I froze it in a block of ice in my freezer so I couldn't use it. Paid it off and cancelled it. Best thing I ever did!
For the short amount of time since watching your channel you had been an inspiration. Today I put some items on my Amazon card and decided not to get them 😆. Thanks for been kind we need that. Blessings
I have in the past, given my kids gift cards, on Christmas and highly encourage them to use the after Christmas when things are on clearance... Yes credit cards will lower your interest rate if you ask, same as the cable company and other bills. I don't think Discover lowers the rate though. You are absolutely correct Emmy. Here where I live, you can even get a discount on a hospital bill if you tell them you'll pay cash. Now as for me, personally, I could easily go without fast food as well as going places...gas is super high, so I'm fine just staying home. . I also have no problem telling people, don't buy me anything, I'm good. If someone wants to give me a gift...I tell them to do something for me instead of buying something for me. Been telling my kids this for years. They all know I'd rather them come over and clean for me, then to have them buy me a gift.
Beautiful intro!! And great tips especially the "I don't want that". Emmy, I ordered your little freezer and it comes today. Can you point me to some of Paul's videos where he prepares food for the freezer? I would love for him to show exactly how he does it. I have a food saver, too, but never use it because I'm not confident on freezing foods. Can you ask Paul, 'pretty please!" from me?? Also, we always break bills when we are out and save the change in a huge Ball jar. We cash it in on the 15th of November and use this money for the holiday season for gifts, eating out for special meals, etc. Last year we had over $600 and this year we had $459. Painless way to save!
For us, it's been cheaper to insure separately. But you don't know of you don't check. Our state farm renters can't beat progressive car insurance. And if we bundled with progressive, we'd pay $17 more dollars a month. So we just keep it separate for now. I try to check our rates at least once a year, better if it's every 6 months. In the past 3 years we've been able to drop our rates from $110 a month to $64 with the same coverage.
If you have to serve alcohol. Have only one type of wine and a mini keg. Chances are people feel like a drink takes the edge off. It's a gathering, not an open bar.
Wonderful tips Emmy! I have no problem buying store brand foods and items rather than name brand items to save a buck. They're usually just as good. There are a few items that I will go for the name brand but not many. It's a no brainer for me. I love Miss Dixie's pink crate! I Have NEVER seen a pink crate like that! She's so spoiled, and rightfully so! ❤️ Kyra was crate trained and loves it to this day. Bode would scratch and cry nonstop in his crate as a puppy so the crate was not for him... or me! 🙄
Yes, she does indeed have a pink crate...would you really expect anything less for Little Miss Diva LOL!! The door is off of it though so she can come and go as she pleases. Your babies must be so sweet!! Each one has such unique and precious personalities don't they!!
They're so different Emmy! Lol! Kyra's crates are open too. She sleeps in one upstairs, and Bode prefers to sleep under my bed! She eats in one downstairs. We started that when Bode joined our little family so he wouldn't eat her food! Since she was a puppy, her favorite spot is under an end table in my den/TV room. Kyra's very independent and Bode is my shadow. They are night and day in so many ways. Both are very sweet though!
My son and future daughter-law both work 6 days a week and we can’t do that !!! We have a Christmas party with just the 4 of us and we exchange gifts 🎁 and visit with them and have dinner together !!!
And while we do enjoy eating out, my husband and I always just drink water. It's healthier and that way we can save our money and calories for the food ;)
Exactly why I brought it up in the video and said what I said! It is disgraceful!
My sore spot at thrift stores are the electric products that aren't functioning properly and only last one or two times for toasted bread etc.
I love your channel. My mother in law always splurges for Christmas. She always asks me for a list. I tell her
Freezer bags, aluminum foil, throw away pans, dawn dish soap.
She buys these every year for me.
I do many freezer meals. This way I enough to do my freezer meals for almost a year. It's my favorite 🎁 gift.
She always laughs because she feels weird wrapping them. But she knows I am happy.
LOVE THAT!! What a great idea Ginnie! Exactly what I was talking about!
I have to tell you, your final blessing at the end of your videos is so comforting and sweet. I smile every time, and I really do feel the love you are sending. Hugs to you, Paul, and Dixie.
I'm so glad! We mean it Angela!
Thanks so much Helen! You feel like a friend as well!
Us too!! Thanks Annie!
They bring what they want to drink too !!!
Thank you Emmy & Paul. "Bless others with your best, not your worst" is such a lovely sentiment.
Thanks Sarah!
Dixie is in almost every video we have ever made lol!
LOL! I had to laugh at your description of the new trendy clothes!!
Our local library accepts used books & then sells them. Paperbacks for $1 & hardbacks for $2. That's where I buy my books, & I don't feel guilty about it!
Wish that type of book store was near me.
Buying quality "classic" clothing is always a win-win.
LOVE that comment Annie! Thank you for sharing! What a wonderful pair you must make!
Kris that's wonderful! Good for you!!
I have bowls and containers with covers to avoid plastic wrap and foils. Good for my pocket book and the environment. For example, when letting bread rise, I use a damp towel or a bowl cover - not the plastic wrap.
Great tip Katy!
My piece of mind and “I don’t want that” are fabulous!
Thanks Donna!
Do not feel bad about regifting.if it's something you will not or cannot use, pass it on.why keep it?so it gathers dust in the back of a closet? It's meant to be used.
So true! Great point!
I just love your videos! It feels like watching a great tv show with the way you usually include several different segments. So nice to watch :)
Oh Christine so kind of you to say! Thanks!
In my budget, I highlight in red my unneeded expenditures & highlight infrequent items (glasses, gifts), in green. It gives me an idea at the end of month where I can budget better.
Great idea for sure Shawna!
Easy.
Oh I love that you save for your granddaughters! What a wonderful idea!
I love your positive and grateful attitude.
Love you too my friend!
I will buy dry clean only. I fold the article to fit into a pillow slip and seal it with an elastic band. Place it in the washing machine on Delicate and maybe partially dry it and then hang to dry. It works well with a minimum amount of pressing if necessary. One coat is cashmere ..
Oh wow! That's great Florence!
Thanks so very much!! So happy to have you here!
Do you try the store brands of food? I've discovered some such as Clover Valley, and Best Choice are just as good or better then national brands.
Wow! To shop after Christmas?! That’s actually an idea ive NEVER heard of on RUclips! Or never heard of ever!! Really smart. You can celebrate the reason any day 😉💚 and u can enjoy gifts any day also🎄☃️🎉
Exactly!! Thought it was a great idea too!
Great tips! Always love watching your channel.
And a big Hello to Dixie, what a good girl you are!
Thanks so much Heidi!!
I have never shopped on the internet, this astounds the young ones that I know
LOVE THIS!!! Good for you!
I save money by eating at home. I enjoy cooking, loved it as a child. I also exercise at home, dropped the gym as soon as they opened back up. Many are still getting sick with viruses at gyms. I don't miss it.
Yes, eating at home tastes best too!
Same with me (my husband and I) - it’s effortless for us to eat at home and not eat out. Eating out rarely to never enters our minds as options. We also don’t go to shopping malls or big departments stores unless there is an absolute need to. Both of these habits save us plenty of money.
They sure do! Thanks!
I’ll have to try putting carrots in a paper bag. Thanks for the tip 😃
Great tip! I never knew that about paper bags! You are so resourceful!
@@vw418 Very welcome😊
@@FrugalMoneySaver Thank you😊
Tks for paper bag tip for carrots. Going to try it. I wrap celery in silver foil and also scallions.
You said you and your son save change and then cash it in. If you put it in a change machine, it takes a cut. Do not waste money, go to the bank and get paper rolls. It is fun and can help children learn to count.
Yes, very true!
Marlyn thank you so much for all the encouraging words!
Love the “gentle touch” idea! So true👍
Yes! Thank you!
Awww thank you so very much Elizabeth!
Smart single moms have done #3 forever!
I’m a member of a food coop and we get a pickup weekly. It helps tremendously on our food bill. I do a lot of cooking and baking with what we have. I just love your videos!
Thanks so very much Cindy!
Thanks for that!
You guys live in such a beautiful world a treat every opening.
Thanks David! We are blessed this time of year for sure!
Never apologize for sharing a comment! We love them! thank you! Some really great advice Vleer!
awe love the puppy, I have two myself
Greatest blessings right!!
We changed our car insurance from State Farm to AAA and saved $600.00 dollars, but kept State Farm for home insurance company because it covered more !!!
That is so smart!
I agree about not donating clothing - or anything - that isn't good enough for us. The same with donating food. I always donated name brand food even though we eat lots and lots of store brands ourselves. (Actually, we stopped donating food and give food banks cash. They know what they need. If you donate boxes of Kraft mac and cheese the person receiving it may not have milk and/or butter, for example.)
You reminded me to cash in our change just in time for Christmas!
The painless way we save money is to buy store brands of most things. In most cases it's not a sacrifice at all.
Great comment Barbara! Thank you!
A gentle touch. Don’t slam the microwave door. Many have sensor near or in the door that is cheaper to replace the microwave than repair. I learned this after replacing the new microwave twice in three years. Love Dixie’s pink crate.
So true Janet! Thank you!
These were different tips I thought and very good ones too.
So appreciate that!
We save our change all year and cash it in for spending money on Christmas vacation.
Love that!
I love how practical your suggestions are! Things that all of use could do today... thank you for another helpful video!
You are so welcome!
Hey Rochelle! Hope all is well!

Great tips Amy! Thank you!
I don’t want that. What a great way to think!!!! Thanks for another encouraging video!
I find not buying clothes or home decor very effortless. However, I struggle with spending too much on extracurricular activities for the kids!!
Home decor for me too...Thanks for being here!
My daughter did the 5 dollar savings to save for a trip in 10 months she a nice amount for spending money for a vacation 😊🍁🍂 great video as usual….I’ve washed dry clean only clothes in cold water and dry flat did it with a cashmere sweater came out beautiful
That is awesome! I'm always so afraid to do that lol!
I have no problem refusing to spend money on anything I can do myself...fixing things, yard work, eating out..doing my own hair & nails etc.
Exactly! Love that Janet!
How beautiful thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve!
Another great video---funny! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
One way we have managed to save money is to apply for a local grocery store credit card that awards you fuel and grocery points for using it but we treat it like a debt card and pay it off each month. We have earned over $300 in free groceries and fuel a year by just using it like cash.
Love that! So smart!
Autumnal? I thought I was the only person who ever used that word! 😄
I have a suggestion for your final tip. Change it to “A gentle touch saves much.” Who can’t use a little more lyrical poetry in life? 😉
YAY!! Love that! Sounds perfect Saundra!
Thank you for all the tips. Eating out for sure!!
Me too Kelly!
Your encouraging tips are so appreciated - thank you 💖
You are so welcome! Thank you!
I save money on the toothpaste. most people will throw a tube of toothpaste away and there is still at least two weeks worth of toothpaste in the tube. I cut it at the end open it up and I scrape out the toothpaste with my brush I just use it myself but it does make the toothpaste last for about two more weeks
Yes, great tip!
A tip of the hat to Paul. Just slow down. It solves almost every situation. From monetary to personal.
So very true Tim!
You sound just like us! Thanks Karen!
If a garment is dry clean only, I just wash it in cold water on the gentle cycle and hang dry. Thanks for the video 🙂
Thanks Jessica!
With online shopping, hubby uses a prepaid debit card for online purchases.once the order is made and shipped,he deletes info.cuts card up.that may be helpful

Again, such enchanting nature shots!
Thank you Jonna! I have fun filming them!
Thanks Emmy all very good tips , I have no problem saving money on clothes
You're so welcome! Thank you!
Yaaa!
Terri you are kicking it!!!! Good for you! Many wins for sure! Congrats and great job!

You are so right!! Thank you for sharing that!
This is a great video, as always. I totally agree with all of your tips, changing your mindset is a very powerful change. Lots of love to you, Paul and Dixie. ⚘
Glad it was helpful! Thanks Debbie!
Oh Cristy thank you for the encouraging comment!! It is so appreciated!
OMG!
LOL!! Love that! Sounds like me for sure!
The best advice!! Thank you!
Thanks Amanda!
Hi Emmy and Paul, I am
a new subscriber to your channel. I really loved the beginning credits I live in North Carolina since 1989. But I grew up in Massachusetts. I miss seeing geese in ponds. There is nothing like the northeast weather. Loved your ideas to save money. Especially having a Christmas meal with friends and family, then
gift give after Christmas with after Christmas sales. I always buy my Christmas decorations for next year, during the after Christmas sales, but never thought about gifts. I am 55 and had to retire early in February this year due to health reasons. I am now living on a pension and SSDI.
Your channel is very friendly and personal.

Welcome Marlyn!! So happy you found us!! Thank you for being here! God bless you as well!
Funny about the dry clean only items: I recently only took 1 item & was astounded it was $20 for that one item! Thank goodness they had sent me a $5 off coupon but when I called they said that’s how much 1 item costs! I usually brought 5-10 items at a time so didn’t really “notice”! I do now!!
It's so true!
Thank you for the great creative tips Amy. Those were really helpful and different from what we here all the time.
You are so welcome Nadine! So glad it was helpful!

I do your first tip forewer. I go to chek the price and if it is to high I just say nope I don't want it anymore, thank you. Even my doughters do it now 😄
Love that! Such a great attitude!
We did after Christmas celebration on a need to one year. It was great, we got such deals, wish we had kept doing that. I have said many times; why do people donate rather than throw away these yucky things. If it says dry clean only- that item goes right back on the rack. It also makes the cost of that item enormous.
Exactly Reba! I so agree!
Thanks so much for watching! Love the quarter idea!
That's wonderful! That's a huge savings Tracey!

Some great tips here Terri! Thank you!
What great savings!! That's amazing! Here is the video where Paul shows how to use our Food Saver ruclips.net/video/w2TT1o9JD0U/видео.html

YAY!! Good for you Kim!
That's wonderful Jennifer! Thanks!
If you have to serve alcohol. Have only one type of wine and a mini keg. Chances are people feel like a drink takes the edge off. It's a gathering, not an open bar.
Great tip Nin! Exactly!
Thank you Chris! Love getting to "know" them truly!
Frugal Money Saver ❤️
My son and future daughter-law both work 6 days a week and we can’t do that !!! We have a Christmas party with just the 4 of us and we exchange gifts 🎁 and visit with them and have dinner together !!!
That sounds wonderful!
Dixie is so cute!
Thanks Robin!

And while we do enjoy eating out, my husband and I always just drink water. It's healthier and that way we can save our money and calories for the food ;)
Love that. Megan!
