Since Corona started, my husband has developed baking as a hobby. No-knead-breads, baguettes, pide, focaccia - you name it, he bakes it! Moreover, he makes the best pan pizzas and different kinds of rolls, for example with rolled oats, raisins, whatever. The best things: it's all lactose-free and very cheap. Love it!
I just said to my husband today "Isn't it great eating at home and not dining out? I can't even enjoy eating out because I just see dollar signs!! I made tortilla soup, stuffed pepper soup, sausage spinach penne, banana blueberry muffins, tuna melts and chicken with potato cakes and green beans just in the past 2 days all with ingredients from the freezer, fridge and pantry. It really does pay off when you use wants on hand. I realize not everyone is blessed to have hot meals every day so we donate and share when the need arises.
Emmy, here is a tip my partner and I have done for Christmas for the last few years. Whenever we buy ANYTHING, we break a bill. We never use our change. At the end of each day, we put the change in a huge jar and don't ever touch it for any reason. By the end of November, we usually have around $600 to spend on special holiday meals, events, and gifts. We never miss the change and it adds up so quickly!!
Thank you so much for this vital information! I love to craft, so after Christmas I stocked up on crafting items that went on a deep sale. I am making all of the adults in my family Christmas decorations that are made straight from my heart and can be handed down through the generations. When Christmas comes, I can shop from my own shop, especially since we all need that last-minute Christmas present for someone! Hope this helps someone out there!
I quilt and for a polyanna gift I make a table runner for our girls annual Christmas party. They are usually made from scraps or free fabric from the free table.
When cards were so expensive (before $ Tree) hubs and I went to store picked out a card, showed it to the other one, put them back, took our money and went for coffee! Yep, we are old and cheap.,
My aunt and I "send" each other flowers the same way. We pretend to pick out an arrangement and only send a photo off the website of it. Works out perfectly because the thought is still there and we can see it.
My mom and dad had friends who bought one birthday card. They signed it in pencil and gave it to each other over and over, perhaps 50 times total. Later they started signing every card in pencil and their friends started to erase and reuse.
I hated those big bill months. Now I am retired I am on a fixed income each month. Instead of stressing about these big months I added up all my bills for the year and divided the amount by 12. Each month I pay this monthly amount from my income into a bill bank account. I have been doing this for 2 years and there are now no big bumps, it is nice to just have a simple way to reduce the stress of big bill months. Best decision I have made as it makes budgeting so much easier. Have a Happy Birthday 🎂💐
My way of planning for those big bills is to figure out the yearly costs, divide by 12, then designate that much each month. I have a chart that divides our savings account into categories, for example: property tax, house insurance, house repairs/upkeep, auto insurance, auto registrations/licenses, clothing, car repairs/replace, and so on. Each month a designated amount is added to each necessary item. When the property tax comes due, the money is there. When car insurance is due, the money is there, and so on.
Dear Emmy, your comment about feeling deprived was right on time for me. I have cut down expenses in different areas to make up for the crazy rising costs of everything. Our home insurance and property taxes went up more than $200 per month, heating oil is more than $1.00 per gallon compared to last year in February, and food prices are over the roof. This year I have stopped going to the hair salon and I am now coloring my own hair, and I have switched supermarkets to reduce our food bill. I am feeling a little deprived, but I'm listening to your wisdom and that is helping a lot :) You have inspired me to bake bread and make other of my favorite foods from scratch, like falafels! I also use your lemon idea, and have frozen wedges ready for my water and for other things. My mother also gave me the idea to use those lemon wedges in a little bag in the dishwasher for freshness. And at the end, I throw them in the garbage disposal to give a nice smell. Same lemon wedge, three uses! Have a beautiful birthday, we love you back!
We are making the following changes to beat inflation in the near future: eating at home rather than going out, enjoying staycations or short in-state trips rather than expensive travel, and focusing on free hobbies/entertainment for fun.
I would suggest a sinking fund for the taxes. Divide by 12 and add that each month. I also have a gift sinking fund for birthdays and Christmas. I add money every pay check to each fund and when I see something I can buy it at the best price
I like that idea. Taxes are what concerns me the most. I live on a lake and taxes are up to 4,000 a year. I do realize some people are higher but it used to be 1500 at one time in Michigan
I had all of my Christmas shopping done and all gifts wrapped before Thanksgiving this past year and it cut down on stress and $ big time. I was under my budget too! I will be doing that again. I have a Christmas gift app and a birthday gift app on my phone where I can write ideas or I can mark off what I bought and how much was spent. I set up a budget for each list and I try to stick to it. I find if I wrap a gift as soon as I get it and then mark it off in my apps, it is so much less stressful for me. It’s similar to an app I use for my pantry/freezer inventory. Honestly, I got to relax in December while friends and family were running around and buying and wrapping. The only gifts I did not do in advance were baked goods, because well, that’d be kind of gross to give stale items. Lol! But even baking I was able to have fun with because I had all the ingredients and the packaging and I could just enjoy it vs rushing through because there was other stuff to do. I could just take my time. I’m also working on keeping my grocery budget down and buying things only as needed or when there is a good price. It is crazy how ridiculous the pricing has been. I shop my circulars and I try to repurpose ingredients if I can’t find an item or it is too expensive or get items I can use for multiple meals (e.g. roast chicken). I came under budget for January and I was so proud. Can’t wait to see if I can spend even less in Feb.
I also scored a great deal at my local CVS. Individual Toilet paper rolls reg. Price 1.47. They were 90% off. I paid.14 cents per roll. Boy did I stock up. 👍
Our goal will be to live fully and abundantly with saving money. To enjoy our blessed home and life, realizing our abundance! Looking at what we own through new and creative eyes. Repurpose, reuse, reinvent. What an exciting journey to be on ❤️
I’m so glad I found your channel in December. At first I thought you were a little phony with the “happy” attitude. But low and behold, you are an enthusiastic loving person who just wants to share her joy and knowledge with others. Now I look most days to see if you and your husband have released a new video. I have been watching your older videos also. Thank you for inviting me into your home and sharing your love and joy of life and our Lord. Debi 💋🥰🥰
This past Christmas we received some very generous gift cards from friends and family. Instead of spending them on ourselves, we are using them to purchase birthday gifts for others throughout the year.
I bought a 2.5 lb roast for $9.46 USD. I cut off 1/3 for steaks (2-4 servings) and froze it for later. With the remaining 2/3, I got 4 servings with potatoes, carrots and onion for dinner. With the au jus, I made 3 servings of mushroom, beef (small chunks) barley soup and 1 serving of spinach, mushroom gnocchi and 6 medium beef tarts with mixed vegetable (3 servings). I also made 2 banana bread for around 79 cents USD and cut one in half and put both halves into the freezer. This morning I made small scones using grated orange peel and froze 1/2. I am just getting creative and stretching things out the best I can. That ham is amazing price and the first thing I thought of was potato soup. Great video! My Christmas shopping is started already.
How fun! Imagine the variety of crackers you can make with different flours and herbs and such! Mine is waffles! I always bought frozen ones...there were none on last shop trip then double in price. Yep, I ordered a waffle pan!
Sinking funds were a game changer for my budget. I do a best guess on increases for auto/home insurances and property/school taxes, between 2% and 5% based on previous increases which has worked out pretty well. I had to specifically ask my auto insurance agent about a better rate, after first getting a couple online quotes from different companies (check out AARP if you are a member). Our auto premium was significantly reduced as a result, and switching to an annual from semi-annual payment was another cost savings. Aldi locally did not have the flavored coffee creamer for at least a month. It is back in stock now, eventually the saltines will be.
I have been so good, LOL. I used to go to Dollar Tree about 1-2 times a week and I haven't been there since December, so I'm proud of myself. It IS nice knowing I've saved money by not buying things I don't really need. I love your idea for Christmas, I've been thinking about that too!
To save money in 2022 I’m using my mother and grandmother’s cookbooks more and buying basic shelf stable food items that can be used multiple ways. I just discovered canned whole milk whips nice and fluffy in a lovely refrigerator dessert. I also make freezer coleslaw which is so nice to have on hand, just drain and add mayo for a creamy variation. Our restrictions are lifting this month so I plan to do “travelling tea parties” to our elderly moms and their friends they would like to invite. I will be bringing the tablecloth, china, tea and goodies. It should be fun!
This really resonated with me today, I took no spend January to far & felt deprived at the end & as such splurged a bit at the supermarket on Friday & felt bad since. Food prices here in UK are rising really quickly, most things i buy have risen around 10- 20% in the last month. Some basic stuff like rice has risen 100% !!! What a bargain the ham was !
Just sharing on things over here. Our Property taxes remained same for the last 5 yrs Car insurance actually decreases with the car's age. To save money on gas Many of us use motorbikes but again it's summer all year round Don't think it's doable in freezing weather. Saltines is Graham Cracker We dunk them in sweet milky Tea /coffee. It's an afternoon snack. Always love to learn new things!! Keep warm.
We have sinking funds, we divide our big bills by 12 and put that money aside each month. We have 10 sinking funds so everything is saved for in advance.
Of course we save every month for all our bills as well! We couldn't pay them if we didn't do that lol! We never know how much taxes and insurance increases every year...it's nice to have the extra fluid money from the no spend month before.
You are so right to prepare christmas months before. It saves us money and we can enjoy the christmas time so much more. Here in Germany everything is getting more expensive, too. For example the heat costs. Last year we have to pay 111 Euros per month. Now we have to pay 164 ! I started to bake more bread. Every weekend I bake one bread and bread rolls for breakfast . I started my own sourdough to save money for the yeast. And I just started with making christmas presents like vanilla extract or knitting socks and sew little bags to put the gifts in instead of wrapping paper. Every little steps counts. It is not easy this time, but we get it together! ❤
Sabrina I always love your comments because you are so creative with your resources! I need to get back to baking bread as well!! Thanks again for all your support!!
I happened to find store brand saltines at Walmart. At .98 per box I bought 4. I then dry canned them in the oven using my large Mason jars. A win win !
I've oven canned several kinds of crackers. They actually taste better years after they've been canned than when they come out of the box!! It's great!! God bless!
My husband and myself are retired and I do my Christmas shopping all year. We have 15 grandchildren, so we need to find sale items for presents. We have sinking funds for our insurance and house taxes. Every year they increase so I base the amount on the amount we paid the previous year and increase it by 5%. Take care.
Of course we save every month for all our bills but we never know how much taxes and insurance increases every year...it's nice to have the extra fluid from the month before.
I belong to a page on FB Everything frugal and a member ask about RUclips channels about saving and you page was a top priority recommendation. That is because you both are great.Just wanted to let you guys know how much we appreciate you both. Blessings
I already have a xmas 2022 tote filled with gifts, this is why I don’t do a no spend January. I budget for for buying deeply discounted gifts for the next xmas. I also, have a sinking fund for holidays for extra food for those occasions.
The financial frugal changes that I am making going forward for 2022: up my meal planning game..the more organized I get the more I save on food! I am shopping the loss leaders more at the grocery store and starting to acquire gifts ( birthday / christmas) in advance so I can make more thoughtful choices ..instead of hurryng and buying a gift under time constraints.
Thank you so much for all your knowledge. I started watching your channel frugal money saver when it had about 12,000 subscribers. Congratulations! I hope to celebrate soon, 100,000. ❤🎉🎉
Changes: 1 major--burning more wood, which means cutting, stacking, hauling....etc....sooo worth it.....our propane bill has been 1/2 so far this season...so we will continue on and keep our temp in the house (furnace) down so it almost never comes on....this along with eating more at home....making due....whole produce instead of processed (lettuce-a big one for me)....you guys are awesome....Paul: I hope you go with the "serenading candle-lit bath" thing for your lovely wife! :) Blessings to both of you! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
I make bread from scratch, pies, 🍎, 🍑, 🍍 cranberry turnovers. Pies and 🎂 🥮 🍪. I substitute ingredients all the time and we are not hurting. My husband and my son love all the food I make at home. We spend half of what we used to spend before the pandemic. It has been a game changer. Also, I have an Aldi nearby.
Save on heating buy an electric blanket and go to bed earlier and get up later lots of things can be done in bed as well as sleeping, also save power by cooking food in slow cooker!
I bought a few packages of small walnuts for a quarter a package & plan on using one with brown sugar, cinnamon on some nice pears I got from the food pantry & bake them.
The same thing happened to me--the past two Wednesdays when I shopped at my local Kroger store, not a single solitary box of plain old saltine crackers were on the shelves--neither national brands nor store brands. Unbelievable! Who would ever have thought that such a humble grocery item would be so elusive??
A lot of my groceries I ordered was out of stock even if it was in stock when ordered. Today I made a home Italian bread and homemade ravioli and a salad. Plus the filling made enough for 2 more meals that I’m freezing. Love your videos ! Keep save during this weather.
I have made saltine crackers before they're super easy and cheap. My tip for them is the thinner you can roll them out the better. We are trying to pay our house off this year so we're not doing any purchases and less it's an absolute need that includes clothing. And we are working very hard to get our grocery bill to a much lower amount in spite of the rising prices!! Great video as always
I got so excited when I saw you bought potatoes! I was in the store last week and picked up a bag because I needed them and was so happy with the price, and then my next thought was, “ I wonder if Emmy is going to buy potatoes “! :). I was able to cut my January grocery bill in half by shopping my pantry/fridge and staying out of the store unless I really needed something. I am so proud of myself and am doing the same for the month of February. Love your channel and looked forward to watching each week.
Hi there , we live in the UK , I’m following your frugal ways , thank you , big shocks here Gas and Electric prices to go up over 56% then again next October!!!!!!!
I do the Polish Wigilia Christmas Eve Dinner every year and look for a sale on canned crab meat long before Dec. Usually Acme has one. This year no sales. So I couldn't make my crab cakes. I made do with shrimp, flounder and whatever seafood I could get for a good price.
I have been staying home more which helps to reduce my gasoline bill. I am working on paying off some debt and getting real close to making it happen. That is my main goal.
hello Amy and Paul a very happy birthday in advance, may God bless you always with that infectious smile. Now the situation is such that i look forward to tuesday and saturday mornings. It really makes my days.Keeping a notebook in the gift closet is a great one.Hope Paul celebrates your birthday to his satisfaction,as he plans to.Love you both and a hug to sweet Dixie too.
Loved this video. When is your birthday? Mine is the 7th. We have done less eating out and trying to eat more of what’s at home. Hubby got a few days overtime the last few weeks so we paid off the credit card. Yay! Now we have agreed to not use it unless we could pay it off in full. Thank you for your encouraging videos.
Emmy, look into mutual funds…. We also have other stocks too… our young son (24) has done super well, with loading up on various investments ( Especially those pre taxed IRA’s, and his long term stock investments …. Lol Amazon early on!!! ) this is my Eagle Scout… finishing his Master’s, soon to be wed to his HS sweetheart, and then moving to wrap up his PHD…. He is so crazy frugal, he applies for all he can, and was again given a grant for his PhD studies…. His younger brother is also smart with his money…. Lol…. Wants to always eat at home, and is finally learning to cook more…. Thank God! lol he doesn’t shop with me, so he also does not see the use by/freeze by meats and fish I score!
Spent $104 in January. I did already spend $80 for February because I wanted those $1.99 chicken breast and center cut pork chops. I got the 1.49 potatoes and butter. I tried to stay with the loss leaders. I am checking the other store circulars....
That Fage yogurt is incredible. I use it in dips in place of mayonnaise, which I don’t care for. It works wonderfully in place of sour cream. It is creamy, tangy and generally healthier than sour cream. Use that in your Mexican 7 layer dip or add a portion of an envelope of hidden valley ranch to make a dip with that Fage for your crudité. Make a healthy appetizer that is ten times more delicious than using the light sour cream and worlds better than the dreaded mayo! ☠️
Hi Emmy! Hi Paul! Food prices are outrageous! I continue to shop for sales and am grateful that I have a fully stocked pantry at the start of this year. Love seeing sweet Dixie. All is well here. No issues after the vet yesterday. The boy is doing well. 🙏
There is a saltine shortage for sure! I try to buy 2 boxes when I can, my kids eat them for snacks and they are jut good for upset tummys! I shop all year long for Christmas, before Covid, I would be at every store after Christmas sales! Now I buy what I see, when I can and I started making Christmas fabric cloth bags to save on wrapping paper. It saves money and saves the environment, plus my kids love it. I told them Santa is trying to be more ecofriendly! 😋 I also buy at least 1 Christmas gift for my kids from the thrift store- they know and look forward to that extra funky one bc the thrift store is great for unique gifts. You could save the ham for Easter even! Thank you for sharing- ShopRite is my main place usually - but Trader Joe's also has a lot of inexpensive basics- Have a great week!
Instead of holiday specific, maybe use universal wrapping paper.or tissue.use aluminum foil to wrap.butcher paper.it saves money, especially if you have multiple gift situations.such as Birthday Anneversary Wedding Baby shower. Etc. Shop all year for gifts.does not need to be specific to christmas. Maybe do a no gifts for adults. Buy needed items instead. Ask people what they need/want before you buy.less clutter for them.it's items they will use.
my husband and i have decided we are no longer doing Christmas. everyone we know really can't afford it anymore. my sister got remarried and now for his kids and grandkids she has about 10 new people. my mom isn't making enough to live on now that they raised her rent yet again. our gift to our family and friends is to not do christmas gifts anymore. so we have decided to just go ahead and do a little more for birthdays. we did not give up the holiday completely we will still have a meal... or just getting together. just not the gifts. i usually make things for presents anyway. i will just make it for their birthdays.
Someone I'm friends with on fb asked where the saltines were...crazy what we are out of on the shelves. Definitely have to make your own or like you said, substitute.
When splitting the big bills in 12 payments add in 10 pc from the previous year. A builder told me he adds 10pc to an estimate when giving the figure. If the bill doesn't go up that much take the extra money and put towards next year's bill.
Oh my goodness this is amazing! I love the idea of buying Xmas presents through the year and the discounted Christmas stuff too, I saw lots of table decorations the other day for 10p and I thought what’s the point of buying them now, but watching your video it’s made me think twice. I also love the idea of making a special occasion of eating and not feeling disgruntled about not spending
I’m making more convince foods from scratch. For instance, making cookies or jello for lunches instead of buying them. I’m going to try to make my own Cheez-it’s this weekend.
I am just buying sales and NECESSITIES. And, I have to really neeeeed something to get it. I am mostly getting foods out of pantry and freezer. Thanks for the vid!
I buy bulk bags of walnuts it a lot cheaper than buying in small cans. Then split in Ziploc freezer bags and freeze until needed. I do that with several things.
You can also use 1- TBLS sugar each time you change your water! Hope this helps! I start shopping February and shop stores like kohls using clearance items and coupons. Buy within mind of family friends! Pay as you go each month!
I just love your enthusiasm and down to earth advice! I've been watching your videos and have taken in so much of your information and tips! I can't thank you and Paul enough for sharing your journey! Take care!
YOU are beyond amazing Em. Thanks for the encouragement. I am very worried about what the future holds. My hub and I are fixed income disabled. Yesterday, because my god daughter was visiting, I made natchos. I paid 4.99 for a bag of tortilla chips. Nuts. Normally I would have walked away. Gas prices have been going up and up. Eeeek.
not being able to get your usual brand can be a wonderful opportunity to try a healthier option, something with more fiber or less preservatives etc I have found that the pandemic shortages actually helped me make positive changes in what I buy
Here in oregon, everyone is making their own bread, clothes, blankets. Their going to cheap stores like dollar tree, goodwill and their stocking up on everything. Also take a look on youtube for depression meals and so forth.
I use Fage yogurt to start my Instant Pot yogurt. Just the smallest container and a gallon of milk makes wonderful yogurt. So much cheaper than buying it.
One change I would say to make is adapt to different kinds of more economically available food. What I mean is, my husband took up hunting the end of 2020 and at first I didn't like the wild, gamey taste of venison, but when he goes out and brings home a deer, processes it himself, and our freezer gets stocked for very minimal money and my kids eat a good meal, I've learned to love venison real quick!
I’m always working ahead for Christmas. April is a big month for birthdays, so I will get those done in February and March, then move onto the 3 fall birthdays. Those will be done by August. I will do the bulk of my Christmas shopping in Sept, October, and November. I have expensive months in November and may (property taxes) and home owners insurance in January. I can pay all that out of dh’s paychecks, but I need to plan on not making other major purchases those months if possible. As for crackers, I couldn’t find them for several weeks. I spotted 2 lonely boxes of zesta on the shelf a couple weeks ago, and even though I only needed one, I bought both of them lol. It’s important to anticipate future needs these days, and buy stuff when we see it. I’m not talking hoarding, just buying a couple extras.
We are the same way at our grocery store with the crackers. There are none. That is a good plan to have Christmas all paid for by October. Sweet Dixie girl is so cute. Emmy hope you have a Happy Birthday, and Paul will do great.
Thank you! So much helpful info! I also get good info from comments! I read those, too! Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉! My husband is already doing many that you mentioned, but I intend to do my Christmas shopping early this year! Oct 1 sounds like a good deadline! Thanks for all you share! 🌻🐞🌻
I’ve always had a budget but I now shop very different. I keep a running list of all the items I regularly use and stock up when I notice items on sale. I am also eating mostly plant based meals. Meat twice a week.
Of course we save every month for all our bills as well! We couldn't pay them if we didn't do that lol! It's nice to have the extra fluid money from the month before when we do a no spend.
Love it!
That is so wonderful!! What a fantastic hobby...delicious too!
That is awesome. My husband can't boil water 🤣. Thankfully he has other skills.
My new.
I like those Christmas or Holiday style patterned rolling pins, mostly for cookies but with imagination I think you might find more baking uses.
I’m trying to learn! Congratulations to your husband!
Love that Sheila!! You all are awesome!
YUMMY menu/food you made! ❤️

Love this idea.

Lol I thought I was the only one that did that!
I never can find such great prices in Canada but i take so much inspo from you. Any inprovement is a blessings. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Thanks for being a part of our channel Katrina!

We are making the following changes to beat inflation in the near future: eating at home rather than going out, enjoying staycations or short in-state trips rather than expensive travel, and focusing on free hobbies/entertainment for fun.
Great strategies Shannon! Thanks for being here!
I would suggest a sinking fund for the taxes. Divide by 12 and add that each month. I also have a gift sinking fund for birthdays and Christmas. I add money every pay check to each fund and when I see something I can buy it at the best price

Gretchen exactly what we want to do for Christmas! Thanks for the encouragement!
Thanks for the idea for the gift app
I also scored a great deal at my local CVS. Individual Toilet paper rolls reg. Price 1.47. They were 90% off. I paid.14 cents per roll. Boy did I stock up. 👍
YES! Another great CVS win Christina!
That was an awesome deal!
Our goal will be to live fully and abundantly with saving money. To enjoy our blessed home and life, realizing our abundance! Looking at what we own through new and creative eyes. Repurpose, reuse, reinvent. What an exciting journey to be on ❤️
Amen! Us too Mary! Thank you!
Debi 💋🥰🥰
Nope, I am who I am lol!
This past Christmas we received some very generous gift cards from friends and family. Instead of spending them on ourselves, we are using them to purchase birthday gifts for others throughout the year.
So smart!! I love that idea! Thank you!
One habit we needed to change was using rewards credit card instead of a debit card. Our Costco annual rewards paid for 2 trips to Costco!
Sandra your meals so delicious and very economical! Thank you!
Wow this is impressive!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea about a gift closet and the notebook idea! That's a great idea! Now I just need an extra closet....
LOL! Laura thank you!
How fun! Imagine the variety of crackers you can make with different flours and herbs and such! Mine is waffles! I always bought frozen ones...there were none on last shop trip then double in price. Yep, I ordered a waffle pan!
LOL! Great idea!!!
Having good food to eat is such a blessing!!
It really is Michele!
We do that of course but we never know how much taxes and insurance increases every year...it's nice to have the extra fluid from the month before.
House insurance just keeps going up every year
I just want to say thank you for always providing such great videos filled with advice! I really appreciate the content you provide!
Thanks so much Jenn!
I have been so good, LOL. I used to go to Dollar Tree about 1-2 times a week and I haven't been there since December, so I'm proud of myself. It IS nice knowing I've saved money by not buying things I don't really need. I love your idea for Christmas, I've been thinking about that too!
That is awesome Alisa! You should be proud!!
Oh a traveling tea party sounds amazing! Love that!
Look at discount grocers and also look at Walgreens and CVS for food deals as well!
Please don't feel bad! We all do this!
I love listening to you! You seem so genuine and it is refreshing. Thank you for all of your encouraging videos. I truly am inspired.
That is so wonderful to hear Sara! Thank you!
Just sharing on things over here.
Our Property taxes remained same for the last 5 yrs
Car insurance actually decreases with the car's age.
To save money on gas
Many of us use motorbikes but again it's summer all year round
Don't think it's doable in freezing weather.
Saltines is Graham Cracker
We dunk them in sweet milky
Tea /coffee.
It's an afternoon snack.
Always love to learn new things!!
Keep warm.
Thanks for sharing! We have Graham Crackers too but they are sweet not salty like a saltine.
@@FrugalMoneySaver that’s a nuisance that they keep increasing!
A win win !
Oh wow how cool is that!! Thanks!
Blessings
Oh how wonderful! Thank you for letting us know! That's so encouraging to us!! YAY!!
I already have a xmas 2022 tote filled with gifts, this is why I don’t do a no spend January. I budget for for buying deeply discounted gifts for the next xmas. I also, have a sinking fund for holidays for extra food for those occasions.
So smart to buy ahead for Christmas Traci!
Great goals Mary!! Thanks for being here!
Thanks so much Dawn! Great money savers you are implementing too!
Happy early birthday Emmie! I hope it is a very special day. Can't wait to see the vlog!
Thank you so much!! I can't wait to see it too LOL!!
Love it!! So great to be so creative!
Save on heating buy an electric blanket and go to bed earlier and get up later lots of things can be done in bed as well as sleeping, also save power by cooking
food in slow cooker!
I bought a few packages of small walnuts for a quarter a package & plan on using one with brown sugar, cinnamon on some nice pears I got from the food pantry & bake them.
That's a great idea!
The same thing happened to me--the past two Wednesdays when I shopped at my local Kroger store, not a single solitary box of plain old saltine crackers were on the shelves--neither national brands nor store brands. Unbelievable! Who would ever have thought that such a humble grocery item would be so elusive??
Isn't it odd??? What the heck!
Same in southern Indiana.....no saltines at all 3 grocery stores in my town! I even checked the Dollar General!
Same at Wal-Mart, fortunately we weren't completely out yet.
We finally found Nabisco saltines at dollar General a few days ago...
It's happening- 82cents each for oranges at Walmart today in Kalispell Montana
A lot of my groceries I ordered was out of stock even if it was in stock when ordered. Today I made a home Italian bread and homemade ravioli and a salad. Plus the filling made enough for 2 more meals that I’m freezing. Love your videos ! Keep save during this weather.
YES! Sounds wonderful Sheryl! Thank you!
Dear Emmy i learn so much from you! Send all my love from Italy ♥️
Italy!!! Oh how wonderful! May I ask where in Italy Nikita? Much love back and thank you!
@@FrugalMoneySaverhello! I live near Turin! Glad to follow you on RUclips🤗♥️
Looking at everything we are doing. Really trying to learn more skills to save money.
Yes, I totally understand!
Thanks so much for sharing! A great goal for sure!
This is a great prep idea switching out product! And enjoy what you have! Walnuts, and other nuts, Yeast can be frozen hope this helps! God-Bless!
God Bless you as well Karen!
The sweetest dog.
She really is Patricia!
Thanks so much for the kind words Linda!
Hi there , we live in the UK , I’m following your frugal ways , thank you , big shocks here Gas and Electric prices to go up over 56% then again next October!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for watching!! That's a big price increase.
I do the Polish Wigilia Christmas Eve Dinner every year and look for a sale on canned crab meat long before Dec. Usually Acme has one. This year no sales. So I couldn't make my crab cakes. I made do with shrimp, flounder and whatever seafood I could get for a good price.
Great idea to substitute!
I have been staying home more which helps to reduce my gasoline bill. I am working on paying off some debt and getting real close to making it happen. That is my main goal.
Wonderful! Gail you can do it!
hello Amy and Paul a very happy birthday in advance, may God bless you always with that infectious smile. Now the situation is such that i look forward to tuesday and saturday mornings. It really makes my days.Keeping a notebook in the gift closet is a great one.Hope Paul celebrates your birthday to his satisfaction,as he plans to.Love you both and a hug to sweet Dixie too.
Thank you so much Deepa 😊! I am sure will do an amazing job! Hope you and your family are well!! Much love to you as well!
To remove a lot of salt from your ham, pour a regular coke over it before cooking. It will draw a lot of salt off but does not sweeten.
Oh wow! Thanks!
Happy birthday!! Guess what??? I am the 7th too!! WOOHOO!!!
@@FrugalMoneySaver wow that’s awesome! I knew I felt a connection to you 😊
@@FrugalMoneySaver Happy Early Birthday!
Homemade soda crackers are so easy to make! I have made them for years!
So smart to check other circulars...I do the same!
I'm unscribing from many Facebook ads because it it so easy to see items wanted but not needed
So true Sherry! Good for you!
I learn more from you guys than any other videos! Thank you, thank you!
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much Diane!
Yes, I adore it too! Worth the extra money when it's on sale!!
I use the Fage yogurt for 2 ingredient dough. It is great! I just love this channel! So inspirational.
First time to your channel. Love your welcoming energy and your point about meals being a celebration and a blessing. Thanks for the reminder.
Thank you so much for being here Jessica! Welcome!!
I “used to get” is the key words. Don’t wait until you need something, buy when you see things on sale… prep up people!
YES! Great advice Granny!!
Hi Emmy! Hi Paul! Food prices are outrageous! I continue to shop for sales and am grateful that I have a fully stocked pantry at the start of this year. Love seeing sweet Dixie. All is well here. No issues after the vet yesterday. The boy is doing well. 🙏
I emailed you about an hour ago checking in to see how everything is going! That is such great news❤️
@@FrugalMoneySaverback atcha FMS! 😉
Thanks so much for being here! Always great to hear from you!!
Instead of holiday specific, maybe use universal wrapping paper.or tissue.use aluminum foil to wrap.butcher paper.it saves money, especially if you have multiple gift situations.such as
Birthday
Anneversary
Wedding
Baby shower.
Etc.
Shop all year for gifts.does not need to be specific to christmas.
Maybe do a no gifts for adults.
Buy needed items instead.
Ask people what they need/want before you buy.less clutter for them.it's items they will use.
Great thanks Rochelle!
During the summer I'm going to use my new clothes line to dry clothes....I'm going to get a drying rack for winter for the lighter clothes
Great idea! Thanks for watching Tracy!
What a great deal on the ham
my husband and i have decided we are no longer doing Christmas. everyone we know really can't afford it anymore. my sister got remarried and now for his kids and grandkids she has about 10 new people. my mom isn't making enough to live on now that they raised her rent yet again. our gift to our family and friends is to not do christmas gifts anymore. so we have decided to just go ahead and do a little more for birthdays. we did not give up the holiday completely we will still have a meal... or just getting together. just not the gifts. i usually make things for presents anyway. i will just make it for their birthdays.
Sounds lovely! Such a great idea to make the birthdays a bit more special!
Someone I'm friends with on fb asked where the saltines were...crazy what we are out of on the shelves. Definitely have to make your own or like you said, substitute.
Definitely! So weird though right lol!
When splitting the big bills in 12 payments add in 10 pc from the previous year. A builder told me he adds 10pc to an estimate when giving the figure. If the bill doesn't go up that much take the extra money and put towards next year's bill.
Great tip! Thanks for watching and sharing!
So glad the video was helpful Dotty! Thanks for watching!
I’m making more convince foods from scratch. For instance, making cookies or jello for lunches instead of buying them. I’m going to try to make my own Cheez-it’s this weekend.
Oh how wonderful! we do that a lot too! Thanks!
I am just buying sales and NECESSITIES. And, I have to really neeeeed something to get it. I am mostly getting foods out of pantry and freezer. Thanks for the vid!
I will be getting presents thru out the year and hope to be done with grandkids christmas and bday by Sept. Or Oct. also.
Great idea!
Thanks for being here and watching!
If you get a cd at my credit union they have one you can add to
Happy early Birthday- blessing to you Paul & Dixie Belle
Thanks so very much Reba!
I buy bulk bags of walnuts it a lot cheaper than buying in small cans. Then split in Ziploc freezer bags and freeze until needed. I do that with several things.
Very smart Natalie!
You can also use 1- TBLS sugar each time you change your water! Hope this helps! I start shopping February and shop stores like kohls using clearance items and coupons. Buy within mind of family friends! Pay as you go each month!
Smart Karen!
I just love your enthusiasm and down to earth advice! I've been watching your videos and have taken in so much of your information and tips! I can't thank you and Paul enough for sharing your journey! Take care!
Thank you so much!
Went to 3 different stores looking for saltines last week. Third store only had unsalted tops so had to settle for that.
That's what I wanted the unsalted tops lol!
Thank you, P&E. Very much enjoy your company. Be well.
Thank you, you as well!
Eeeek.

I have stopped purchasing bottled water and now drink tap water. Enjoy your encouragement and ideas.

For years I just didn’t put nuts into cookies etc. they were just too expensive for us.
not being able to get your usual brand can be a wonderful opportunity to try a healthier option, something with more fiber or less preservatives etc I have found that the pandemic shortages actually helped me make positive changes in what I buy
Great point Holly! Thanks!
Hi guys! Have a great weekend!🙏🏼🥰
You too! Thanks so much!
Here in oregon, everyone is making their own bread, clothes, blankets. Their going to cheap stores like dollar tree, goodwill and their stocking up on everything. Also take a look on youtube for depression meals and so forth.
Great ideas!
I use Fage yogurt to start my Instant Pot yogurt. Just the smallest container and a gallon of milk makes wonderful yogurt. So much cheaper than buying it.
So funny you said that...a video on that is coming soon after I saw the price of yogurt lol!
@@FrugalMoneySaver and it tastes so much better!
I totally agree! That's wonderful!
Our ruff mo.s and far as big spend out is Feb and October. Yugh. Have a great weekend.
You too Sandra! Thank you!
It is so easy to make your own yogurt. I make it with organic whole milk for about 2 dollars a quart.
Yes, I need to start doing that!
I agree...just a couple extra. It's weird though that the crackers are missing!
I am doing more no spend days/ months in 2022. To be more intentional of what I buy this year. Enjoyed your video very much. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful! Thanks for watching!
We are the same way at our grocery store with the crackers. There are none. That is a good plan to have Christmas all paid for by October. Sweet Dixie girl is so cute. Emmy hope you have a Happy Birthday, and Paul will do great.
Yes, I know he will too Tina! Thanks so much!
Another great video, thank you! I’d love a video on the gift closet, and shopping for the gift closet and tracking as well.
You got it! Great idea!
You are so welcome! Thank you Lona!
Such a huge pleasure listening to you today ! Have a fabulous day
Thanks so much Gina! You too!
I’ve always had a budget but I now shop very different. I keep a running list of all the items I regularly use and stock up when I notice items on sale.
I am also eating mostly plant based meals. Meat twice a week.
