Emmy and Paul, you have a gorgeous family! All the young adults are so polite, sensible, articulate and beautiful/handsome. Above all they practice frugality. It must be fun to have them around. I love the “living with parents until being kicked out” comment. My 3 young adult children are still living with us, we will not kick them out and they can stay as long as they want. I enjoy your reinvent meal ideas from leftovers. Thanks and more to come please! Since we have the blazing sun here in California, I’m drying my heavy laundry in the yard now.

My reboot is going to be to do more for myself before I hire somebody to do things for me. I'm a retired lady in my 70s and have gotten lazy about yard and household tasks and have a handy man and cleaning lady come in occasionally. I feel like I'm depending on them too much which can be costly AND frustrating. I see what happens to others as we age and give up our independence too soon because we won't try to do and think for ourselves! It might take me a little longer for me to do things than it used to and I have to break tasks down into smaller units. I can't mop and clean all my house in one day...but I can make one room shine before I wear out! ☺ 👍

After a busy few months just staying home is great, and as a plus I am saving on gas. Although I'd like to go away I don't have the money for a vacation so trying to do things at home that are peaceful and relaxing, like watching RUclips videos. 😃, reading, taking a bubble bath, watching a show or movie with a snack, sitting on my deck, catching up on some home tasks. Fun segment with your family, they all seem lovely.

Our local Salvation Army won't accept any more donations. They are crying out for help so we will make a donation of time. And it's the height of gardening season. But several adult grandchildren are spending the summer between college semesters to continue learning how to work the land. They will help out at Salvation Army, too. This is a good reset for our family. Keep the no waste recipes coming! This is so important in today's times and really anytime.
We like to dehydrate leftover baked beans and use them to crumble and sprinkle over mac & cheese, any casserole, and scrambled eggs. I never thought of making them into bean burgers. Great idea! We will try this.
I love Charle's tip. I'm the plumber in my house and used RUclips to help me install a new insta-hot system. Yay! It makes the bidet extra special, too.😊

What a great video. I loved seeing your family's responses. I am moving to a new home. So we are revising our grocery budget; focusing on eating up odds and ends in the fridge and freezer and only buying produce when needed. I am also not buying any boxes, just using and reusing what we have in hand. Thankfully, the new home is a few miles away, so I can unpack a few totes, and bring them home to reuse over and over again. I can't wait to try that bean burger recipe!

My reboot is to eat at home more. We have gotten into a bad habit of grabbing dinner while we are out running errands on Saturdays and I know it's costing us. My idea is to plan a couple of Saturday evenings a month to have friends over for a potluck meal - or even just making dessert or snacks and play some games so we have better things to look forward to instead of frittering our money away on eating out.

I just joined a local "no buy" group and will be decluttering and gifting out some items I no longer need or want. Also I am challenging myself to use up perishable goods. Today I used up perishables/ and using best/before date/leftovers items up because there is loss leaders that I can replace them with this weekend (eggs & mushrooms). This is what I made today. A spinach, mushroom, tomato, cheese quiche (6 slices), 6 Ground beef pies, onion, potato, 1/3 can of mushroom soup, and mushrooms (6), and 6 butter tarts). I used 1 &1/2 boxes of pastry dough was close to best before date that I got on clearance for a steal. The cost of the ingredients was @$5 CAD ($3.91 USD for 12 small meal serving and 6 buttertarts. I put some into freezer for lunches. Tomorrow I will be making banana muffins and apple/pineapple squares to use up the rest or perishables. We will have a small grocery haul this week. Have a great weekend!

Laura is right! Do what you feel comfortable doing on your car instead of paying a mechanic. I don't change my own oil because I wouldn't know how to dispose of the oil, but just last summer the mechanic who does change my oil gives the car a good once over and said I need new air filters. I have a friend who is very handy and asked him if he could do it with my assistance and he said sure. (I convinced him with the promise of a spaghetti dinner complete with salad and bread. :) ) Anyway, we spent an hour working on it and I saved plenty of money I'm sure. Also, my interior rear view mirror decided to fall off the windshield a couple of years ago and I just couldn't imagine paying to someone to put it back on. I went online and bought a kit to do myself and I did. Again, I'm sure I saved quite a bit of money. Brakes I might not do, but little things I certainly will.
Your family is lovely and I'm sure you loved spending that time with them.
I'm going to work on shopping the pantry again this month. I really don't need to buy a lot of stuff to make decent meals. So I'm going to work on that this month.

The car & home maintenance is huge! My husband has saved us tens of thousands by doing repairs and renos himself. He was just at our daughter's yesterday to replace a broken belt & a few other things. None of the young people she knows can do anything like it. What a beautiful family! Thank you for sharing great tips from those wonderful young people. My change isn't for the month of June so much as what I plan for the second half of the year starting in July (the new "fiscal year," lol). My husband and I relocated about 18 months ago to a new town, and it has been no end of necessary infrastructure spending on the new home (new solar panels and storage batteries, new HVAC, water heater, appliances, etc.) Then I wanted to deal with decorative issues like paint, furniture, etc. So the reboot I'm planning as we move into July is to slam on the brakes and have the whole second half of this year be a "no-spend on the house" challenge. A house is never finished anyway, right? I want to stop spending on all "improvements" and just enjoy things as they are, with what we already have, which is far more than enough. As your video shows, it's family sharing time together in the home that matters most!

My reboot is to recycle unusual things that would normally go in the trash right after emptying. For example potato chip bags. I give them a quick wash and let air dry and use them to store washed produce. I have also put my salad bowl inside to keep the salad fresh when I have made the salad ahead for my meal. I am trying to eliminate the use of plastic wrap so I've been getting creative. I also cut open bread bags and use them to cover things going into the refrigerator. When making homemade bread I reuse the bread bags from bread that I have purchased from the store. It's rather fun to think outside the box when trying not to use plastic wrap.

My frugal tip would be don’t procrastinate and put things off, fix what can be fixed before it gets to the point of unrepair. We were reminiscing about mom’s frugal ways, someone recalled that as our dad’s shirt collars wore out she would remove it, flip it over so the underside was on top and the worn side was on the bottom. I was amazed at that.

My reboot is each week when I buy groceries, I am going to set an amount I want to spend, and use a handheld tally counter to keep track of how much each item costs. If it costs $1.30 I round it up to $2. It has a finger ring to put over your finger while holding in your hand. You just press to click it for each dollar that it costs. Hi Emmy and Paul, thank you again for another great video and for the frugal tips given by you and your family. I just wanted to add that if you have a major car repair coming up, make sure to check with the manufacturer to see if there's a recall on the parts you want to repair/replace. Many years ago, my first husband decided to replace the brakes on our car with my 12 year-old son assisting him. While the car was jacked up, the jack slipped and the car fell on hubby's hand. His hand was pinned between the car and the jack. My son ran to get the neighbor, who single-handedly lifted up the car and freed hubby's hand. He nearly lost his pinkie finger, had emergency surgery on his hand and was in the hospital for a few days. A few days later, we decided to let the dealership replace the brakes. It was heartbreaking to find out that the brakes had been recalled and the repairs costed us nothing.

@@FrugalMoneySaver It was a scary situation. His finger is still crooked. I had asked him to take our car to the dealership to replace the brakes, but he wanted to save money and do it himself. He didn't have the proper equipment to do the repair in our driveway. A simple phone call to the dealership would've saved us money, time and misery.

Lovely family! Great tips. My brother and all his kids, their spouses and grandchildren are in Illinois and I'm in NJ. It stinks that don't get to see them too often. But is wonderful when all get together. Was wonderful to watch yours.

Trying to eat at home more but, when we do eat out, trying to remember to ask if they offer senior discounts because they don't always advertise them even though they give them.

Love seeing your extended family! My summer goal is to reset our house and our routines. We are expecting our 3rd child in December, and will be soon starting a huge renovation project to make space for the new baby in our house. Unfortunately between morning sickness, busy work and family schedules, and a family bout of COVID earlier this spring, I have relied too much on carryout and convenience foods, and sadly had to throw a fair amount away because we didn't eat it in time... definitely challenging to cook when dealing with nausea and fatigue! So this summer I want to get back to more cooking and less spending, as well as de-cluttering our house to prepare for a very exciting winter!!

At the end of every month, I have a money date with myself and review all my spending. Then I ask myself 2 questions: How did I do and what could I have done better.

Such great tips! I also use you tube videos for things around the house. I refuse to pay someone for something I can do myself. You and your family could write a book! I'm glad you had time to spend with them. I'm sure Dixie enjoyed it too

I have to say, your originality is inspiring for recipe no waste! Never in my life would I think to smash up the beans and do something else. But I’m willing to give it a try :-) I just wanted to take a second to tell you that I actually stopped your video… And went and rebooted several areas in my 🏡 . Thank you for the inspiration and have a great weekend

My reboot is a big one. I am retiring at the end of June. I can’t wait until I have more time and energy to devote to growing my own food, cooking from scratch more, and just generally feeling better about life. My job has become so stressful

Beautiful family! Thank you for the tips and your "use every morsel" recipes. When I was 16 my dad gave me a back board to roll under the car and change the oil. He gave me a power tool each year. For my first apartment he gave me a fishing tackle box with every size of nail, screw, nut, washer, etc, which I keep restocked. I'm the daughter who's better in the garage than the kitchen. So satisfying to repair your own car and house.
