Thanks for the insight and it made me think. I used to be mad at myself when I had to quit club racing, 30 years ago, due to being broke, because I never got as far as I wanted. On reflection, I can see that it was a sensible decision as if I'd have carried on, I never would have been able to buy my first house. And here I am now, doing track days again, and having a ball with no expectations.
Great video.. I was lucky enough to get a free ride for a year with a manufacturer. The rider they had at the time was fast but was awful at setting up a bike (2 stroke). I was doing some testing setting up the carbs on mine and some guy I never met asked me to do a few laps on their plain white bike and give an opinion. I did a few laps and it was bad so offered my suggestion and the mechanic they had made the changes and off I went again. It was 95% better then their rider went out and while he was out we had a chat. I helped again a few times that day and was asked to come test for them again. The bike was fast but really fragile so it was always seizing up. Being a factory bike they needed to solve it on the quiet. I spent a year riding and blowing up the bike with a promise that I would get next years bike to use for free to run on my own. Sort of a long term loaner. The year ended the bike was better but not perfect so the team pulled pulled the plug on the class and I ended up without a bike for the following year. But I got so much seat time that it helped with my own racing but like many at that time I lost my job in the mines and racing at a level I wanted or needed to be at was impossible. But I have been lucky that I had that technical knowledge and got to design the Yamaha R7 factory cranks and worked on the Petronas FP1 parts too... Its hard to get to any level above club racing as the level of riders goes up and the quality of the bikes do too.. A championship winning club rider may never be more than making the numbers up at the back of a BSB level race and guys laugh at him yet he could go do a club race again and win easily.. It is a lot of dedication and hard work. But if you lack money then its impossible to progress.
@@tmac77 You get into it knowing its not going to be easy and if you think it is then you are in the wrong sport..lol. You have an advantage if you are a really good rider but even then it's not going to be given to you on a plate as you know all too well..

Nice one, that was really informative for us non racers. Its interesting to hear how racers get to these different levels and what they have to do to get or keep a ride. I mean are they just actually skipped or is there a process they have to go through? Cheers Taylor, great vid, gets a like from me.

As someone that has started track days in Australia and wants to be able to do some club racing, i totally know how expensive it gets even for a weekend warrior. Thanks for the video, it's really good to know what goes on from the perspective of a rider. Too many people think that because a rider is on tv and wins, he will be swimming in gold. Brilliant great vids big shout from your newist subscriber in Scotland. How many times do you need to crash the bike before they say right your on a shakey peg?
Thanks Iain. That depends on the team and their budget normally. If your names Marc Marquez you can crash as much as you want, but it wouldn't work that way in BSB 🤣
Nothing as Machiavellian as an Italian GP team eh? (Hypothetically of course) Just found your channel today, subbed! All the best for the rest of the year Taylor!
Hey Taylor shout out from the USA. Love seeing your on board footage on BSB highlights. Wish there were a way to watch motorbike racing here. Our moto America is a joke nobody cares about racing here. You should come over here to make some money at the Daytona 200 you would easily win the race the money and the Rolex. Unless it’s in your contract that you can’t compete at this event but would be great to see blowing all us yankes away and show them really how to ride. Cracking content, well done :)
Thanks very much 👍
Brilliant great vids big shout from your newist subscriber in Scotland. How many times do you need to crash the bike before they say right your on a shakey peg?
Thanks Iain. That depends on the team and their budget normally. If your names Marc Marquez you can crash as much as you want, but it wouldn't work that way in BSB 🤣
Great video! Rossi in the peak of his career? Didn't know it was 2008 😂
Badly worded 😂 I meant financially more so than riding wise.
@@tmac77 Yeah I thought you meant that. Made me laugh
Great video, interesting to get insight into aspects not normally covered, personally I would be interested to hear more about the business side
I’m sure I can think of something along those lines. Thanks Simon 😁
Nice insight, and an funny hyperthetical story too haha
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nothing as Machiavellian as an Italian GP team eh? (Hypothetically of course) Just found your channel today, subbed! All the best for the rest of the year Taylor!
They are just the best! 😂😂 Thanks very much!
Was that hypothetical story a couple of years old? Best of luck for the rest of the season. 👍
Hypothetically it was actually quite a few years ago now!
You're worldwide here. Hi from America.
That's awesome Bob!
Great vid liked and subbed that’s a fact not hypothetically 😉
Thanks so much! I would love to come race in the states it looks like fun. And thanks for subscribing!
great video
Thanks Lawrence!
Liked and subscribed ✊🏻

I didn’t gel with the duke but that wasn’t this team, I still get on great with all those guys 😁👍🏼
Interesting video! Really enjoyed it. You get a like from me!
Thanks Jonathan!
