In honor and remembrance of jazz composer and keyboardist Lyle Mays
[Nov 27, 1953 - Feb 10, 2020]. Lyle composed and arranged most of the Pat Metheny Group's music, for which he won 11 Grammy Awards.
“If I Could “is one of my most beloved songs of all time. The virtuosity of these artists is unparalleled. This track is from the Pat Metheny Group’s 1984 album: “First Circle”.
This was one of the last analog recordings by the group. It was a little muddy with Pat’s acoustic guitar being a bit mid-rangey. I gave Pat’s guitar a little boost in dynamics, notched-out the 500-800 a tad to cool its midrangyness and made the brushes on the drums sizzle just a bit more.
This is one of the most beautiful, sweetest, most relaxing and most captivating songs I have ever heard! It still electrifies me 36 years later.
