In this video, I’ll share 8 places you can’t miss in Staten Island. However, there is a lot to talk about here. So, if you enjoy this video, please give it a “like” and subscribe so I know to make more videos like this.
When I ask visitors to name the five boroughs the most commonly forgotten one is Staten Island. It is the city’s least visited and least populated borough but it shouldn’t be. The reality is that Staten Island has more to offer than some of the most popular boroughs. It is truly a hidden gem with fascinating finds unlike any other part of NYC. Staten Island is also known as the borough of parks because it has the most beautiful natural landscapes and ocean views of all of New York. So today I’m thrilled to share with you 8 places you cannot miss in the borough that I called home for four years.

2. Denino's Pizzeria & Tavern

Would like to know places that is walking distance from the Ferry. Places close to the Ferry
Thanks Sarah!!!! x ;-)
what kind of camera you got????
Don't HATE on it new York city is beautiful. However it is very bias and racist. A rich bureau, but even what is part of what is called a melting pot. Very non New York, although very pretty.
As someone who lives on Staten Island, I can’t thank you enough for putting such a positive spotlight on SI. The Island typically gets caught up in all the stereotypes of the Mob and negative Italian American portrayals. It’s amazing how someone who spent only 4 years here gained such an appreciation. Thank you for spotlighting the positives of this beautiful place I and so many call Home.
Thank you. I'm so glad you like it :)
I really liked it, the place is beautiful. You are lucky!!
You are truly a good and fair person. I have caught periodic negative references to Staten Island on TV shows set in NYC. I looked up this phenomenon on Google, and discovered that Staten Island gets trashed by other New Yorkers for mostly all the wrong reasons. This terrific video does this borough proper justice. It looks like a great place and I am glad you brought this to my attention. Thank You!
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and as a teenager moved to Staten Island. I have lived here for 13 years. I can never understand the hate Staten Island gets..most of it is by people who have never experienced anything in Staten Island. I am also not white nor Italian...NYC is always what you make of it, Staten Island or not. Great video!
Thank you. Glad you like it! :)
The word is Staten Island is full of racists. That’s why people don’t like the borough
They hate on us because we're Italian
Casually posts a video while in labor. Congratulations! 🥰
Accurate! haha
Proud to see a Sri Lankan restaurant as one of the cannot missed place in staten island.. 🇱🇰❤️🇱🇰
I love it because it's more residential than commercial. Not much for night clubbing. People dont like the traveling daily from here to Manhattan . Denino's looks mouthwatering , I wish I could smell it.
The fortress is Battery Weed. I used to sneak into it with friends when it was still part of the active military base called Fort Wadsworth years ago.
You are absolutely correct, before meeting a wonderful friend who happens to live in Staten Island, I knew nothing about the borough. My mom moved to New York 31 years ago and I would visit her, staying only in the circle I was familiar with. All of that changed once I met my new friend via RUclips. I met up with my friend in Manhattan, we took the ferry over to Staten Island, and spent the day touring the borough. I have been in love with S.I. ever since and decided to vacation there for two months last summer. BTW, Fort Wadsworth is one of my favorite spots to relax due to the view of Manhattan and Jersey across the water and I absolutely fell in love with Old Richmond Town.
Thank you for sharing this video with us and allowing me to relive my summer memories of my new favorite borough.
I can't thank you enough Sarah for your recomendations. I suscribed to your channel months ago, and now I'm planning a trip to NYC on the last days of march-first days of april, following your videos. Super recomended to everyone i know!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. Glad you like the videos! :)
Thank you for putting such a nice video together about Staten Island !!❤️ It’s great
You are delightful .. I live on the island and constantly find myself either defending this borough or just ignoring other's crap talk about it. But I do love it here.. Thank you for putting a positive spotlight on New york city's red headed stepchild
Wow! no words to describe that beautiful and historic place.
Sarah, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tour of the least-visited borough in NYC
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video. This is the first in depth video of attractions on Staten Island. Thank you.
Bro...I loved it! I missed your Staten Island suggestions request but it seems like you covered it all! I'm so glad you went to Lakruana and Richmond Town.
Thank you!
As a A Staten Island resident who was born an raised here. This island is not only interesting but a great place to be
Thank you so much for highlighting my Hometown. I am so Glad you got to try Royal Crown Bakery.
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video :)
Thanks for making this video!!!! I appreciate it because it is the forgotten borough but i great place to live
Thank you❤️ I can’t wait to explore my borough this coming spring👍
Pizza is always so amazing with a lot of sauce, so I can totally agree! The breaded chicken sandwich from Royal Crown Bakery looks delicious! My taste buds would for sure be in heaven while eating that! I like how Fort Wadsworth has great views of the Verrazano Bridge as well as some great history (other than maybe Giovanni Verrazano's fate). Awesome video!
Excellent video, I love Staten island and all the places you showed!! I hope to visit one day!
Sarah!!!! Thank you so much for this video!!! I didn't think I could love Staten Island anymore than I already do (main reason is my "celebrity crush" was born and raised there and still lives there). I hope one day I have an opportunity to visit and experience all the history, sites and food you shared (and maybe run into my "crush"). Hopefully your video will help bring Staten Island into a better light it totally deserve it. Congrats to you and your hubby on your Baby Girl. Happy belated Anniversary!!!! (my bday is January 27th) Take Care!!!!!
Thanks for making this informative and interesting video
Years ago, I used to travel up the Garden State Pkwy and cut over the Verrazano Bridge heading for Garden City, Long Island. I had no idea that I was crossing Staten Island. I wish I had paid more attention at the time. Thank you for showing me some of what I missed.
Hi Lisa, You're very welcome! We can all always learn something new :)
Thank you for video showing Wow!
I have lived on Staten Island since 2002...And I must say it is underrated....and am glad its a secret that is not out. As a foodie the best Italian restaurants are on Staten Island, the best Pizza and the Best Chinese food are here...And I have been to a lot of restaurants in the 5 boroughs. The people here are hard working class old fashion nuclear families and everyone here are nice to each other and support each other. This is the best borough to live in hands down.. I am a minority and grew up in Brooklyn Williamsburg....I have a wife and 2 kids and own a house. Moving here was the best decision of my life.
Will definitely try that Royal crown bakery and deninos! The food there looks so delicious l thanks for sharing beautiful lady 😘😘😘xox
Loved, loved this video! I lived there for 3 years and really enjoyed it! Been in most of those places you mentioned and they are truly great! Miss Sri Lankan food!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm from Staten Island and I loved this. All excellent recommendations!
I noticed that Sarah was wearing cold weather gear so this wouldn't be open- but if you go to Denino's in the warmer months, then be sure to go across the street afterwards for Ralph's ices.
I really enjoyed this video.
Sarah, you did a wonderful job in both sharing this great info of the island, & your presentation was Beautiful.
You have great style young Lady 😉👍👍
Thank you so much!
I used to like taking staten island ferry and loved the downtown views, then moved to queens and long island, miss I know that city like my fingers tips.
Congratulations on your baby girl!!!
Thank you so much 😀
As a native of SI we say Fawt Wahdswurth
A Chinese garden, a Tibetan museum and a Sri Lankan restaurant, how interesting! Great video, Sarah. Now I have to add a few more things to my Things to do in New York list.
Definitely! Thanks for watching, glad you liked the video :)
I love your Videos Thank you
Glad you like them!
Love ur channel feel like I'm travelling with you and love to see all the gems New York has to offer 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪💖
Awesome! Thank you!
Te quedó muy bueno el video, como siempre!! Ya va a salir el mío 😊😊
Hellow I'm new subscriber almost 13years living SI..I don't know d other places maybe I'm busy to work..but now thanks for your contempt Sarah for beautiful places here in staten island..
Hey there , I grew up on SI, since before the Verrazano Bridge, this was the absolute best " hot spot " tour I have ever seen. I was the Operations Mgr at the Childrens Museum in Snug Harbor for a short period and my fathers family were best friends with the Denino's... you really did a great job here!!
That's awesome! Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video Sarah
So Nice!!! Thank you very much
Glad you like it!
If you liked Deninos clam pie, Lee's tavern has THE BEST clam pie around, i prefer them over Deninos any day of the week
Just want to thank you for recommending Royal Crown Bakery & Cucina Chicken! I order the chicken cutlet sandwich because of you and it was so good. Funny thing is- I live 2 minutes away from there. Love you and Louie channel! Just 5 minutes from Royal Crown Bakery is Bruno’s Bakery and restaurant! That is a must to check out - whenever this Covid is over.
Great video!
Thanks!
Grew up on Staten Island, it's a wonderful place to be.
The island is a very interesting place. I want to see this island in spring.
Good idea, definitely cant miss the Green Belt that time of year. Cloves lake is pretty good and close enough to the ferry. Wolfes Pond is also great with a lot of trails and close to the beach. I'm a native to Staten Island.
Staten island my home sweet home ❤ You made me hungry, I'm about to order Denino's pizza.😋
Wow. I grew up in SI and I didn't even know half of the places you mentioned.
Beautiful 💞🥰 Your morning is rose ... your morning is happiness ... your morning is purified honey
Moved away 30 years ago. I miss nothing or no one, however, this is an awesome video. Enticing!
Mulligatawny soup actually originated from word mullaga tawny (Tamil language) or pepper water.
The British folks called it the way it is now.
Tamil is spoke widely in Southern Indian state Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
Well done
conference house park is also good for sledding in the winter
Great place to grow up back in the 50s and 60s!
Most go and visit Italo, 1566 Forest ave, nice authentic Italian food ❤️
I lived in staten island 1975 left and moved to long island my parents are buried in moravian I have always love SI.
I grew up here. Great place to grow up. All the culture of Manhattan close by, but I had a backyard and safe places to play. I knew my neighbors. I moved away because the daily commute was too long and really modest single family homes are well over 500k.
I’ve lived in NY for years, and the only time that I’ve ever been to Staten Island was when I was younger, and my mom and I would drive across the Verrazano bridge just to cross into Jersey headed to Pennsylvania for vacation, but just in general to spend a whole day there.....never done it. I think maybe by this upcoming spring or maybe in the summer, I honestly might spend a full day there especially since I’m really into photogenic and really scenery places, and I’m obsessed with nature so I feel like Staten would be a perfect place for that. I’ve also heard that Snug Harbor is apparently haunted, and a couple years ago, Ghost Adventures actually filmed an investigation there.
Snug Harbor is apparently haunted? Might have to google that since I'm into spooky stories. Thanks!
Snug harbor is haunted!!!
Just saw your ig update! CONGRATULATIONS to you and Luis on the arrival of your little baby girl!!
Thank you so much! ❤️
interesting film, I like Sarah's face too😍
I enjoyed it ! Just seemed like you jumped around a lot instead of starting on the south shore and working your way north …. It was however a nice video ! FYI the best clam pie is made by Lees Tavern hands down !!
Yes, the colors in the cookie represents the Italian flag 🇮🇹
I have lived in Staten Island since the day I was born my parents have been living in this same house for the past 16 years and I have lived in this house for the past 13 years since the day I was born and I never heard of most of these places. We’re did u live in Staten Island
Very nice 👌 👍
Yea for rainbow cookies!! How is bus service on the island? Is it 24/7
Lovely production, as usual. When Covid finally allows me, I’ll be going over the Verrazano Narrows bridge (my favourite wife loves bridges 😳🙄😂). I’ve just to figure out the type of transportation (as pedestrians are a bit scarce🤪), probably be a bus ride 🚌 🤑🤭😅. Not long now, Luis will be able to practice burning his wick at both ends, when your little princess arrives. I can’t wait for you both to look at each other, wondering how you managed to create something so special. Keep safe guys from this side of the pond here in England (Brexitland 🇪🇺). 🤗🥰🍻😉.
If your wife loves bridges you also have to head due north and check out the new Tappanzee bridge. It is beautiful. We have a boat up there and got to see the amazing deconstruction and building of it. Quite the production.
Thank you so much!
@@darcyferrigno thanks a lot, I’ve already seen a video with Actionkid (Ken) walking it, which looked great.
My problem is that we’re only going to be there for 10-14 days. And The Big Apple has so much to fit in. 🤪🥴🙄
@@richt.4900 It does, impossible really to fit it all in. Well if you come back, do the Tappanzee bridge on your way to Sleepy Hollow. Yes, the cemetery that the book was based on. If you can do it in the early fall it is amazing. :)
Great job the Indian restaurant is on on bay street not to far from where i live.
Love the content of your videos, picked up so many great ideas and tips, thanks and keep them coming Sarah.. My one ask though, please drop that orange and teal grade, teals are a bit overwhelming.
Happy you're enjoying the content! Appreciate the support :)
Shout out to the videographer (probably louie).. great camera work. Post production work done great as well. You guys made staten island look great. Well done
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
@@SarahFunky 👍😊
Honorable mention: New Asha Sri Lankan Restaurant. Not as pretty and aesthetic as Lakruwana but it’s the best food you’ll ever have!
I'm guilty of only stepping on the Island as part of the must do ferry ride. Staten Island never really seems to get any press and I assumed there would be poor public transport links so never gave it a second thought.
The public transportation is terrible- you would have to rent a car to visit all these places or spend all day waiting at the bus stops. Back in the day SI was trying to secede from NYC because we pay taxes, but the city spends no money there.
@@MygirlsGJPB Well, that answers that then. Not worth my time. When I do get back to NYC for a trip. Every second being there is on the clock. I want to get the most out of my time and the best experience. I won't be hanging around bus stops all day that's for sure.
acutally, Staten Island Rapid Transit, the above ground train picked up right at the ferry, goes to many of the places mentioned. Also, bus to Snug Harbor or the Sri Lanken restaurant is easy.
I've been to Staten Island 3 times and I literally do not understand the hate.
Compared to the rest of NYC there may be less infrastructure, nightlife, etc but compared with most suburbs, it's drastically better
Thank you so much for visiting Conference house. I live down the road and spend a lot of time there hiking and taking pictures. It is a beautiful place. Too bad we didn't get to meet.
So I live in Staten Island I go to the school that’s at snug Harbor and when I was in first grade we went to Richmond town
Thank you for mentioning the Conference House. Deb and I were caretakers there, for eleven years and loved it. Lots of history there. Tours are Friday, Sat, Sun, 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
Lots of food in SI.
In Staten Island even our bridge is Italian
you have to try country donuts.
Do we say on SI or in SI - I don't wanna beat beat up by no guido's
Action kid did a video there too. Hope you saw that video
Trust me Z-One or Z-Two are MUST TRYS!!!
First time I ever heard anyone refer “in Staten Island.” And I lived on the island for decades and decades
Olá..sugestao faça um.mostrando a cidade não só.pontos turisticos.abraco..
I too go to college in Staten Island and we hate it
Deninos pizza is the best!
my lord ,,, once upon a time the uk was expensive by comparison. Now the tables have turned. 13 dollars for a sandwich! blimey!
I live here and I would have to it’s a nice place to come visit but really not the best place to live
Fans here
how did you get around Staten Island? I always use public transportation as I don't drive & sadly I don't ride a bike either. How is public transportation?
Plenty of buses, but most people drive.
There’s just as many busses as in nyc. There’s even a train. It’s not hard. There’s also plenty of Ubers and lyfts & bike lanes
Yes, I do believe the colors of the italian cookie represent the colors of the Italian flag.
I grew up on Staten Island, right up the block from Royal Crown (you pronounced Cucina wrong - it’s “coo-CHEE-nah”), and lived in the same neighborhood till I relocated 7 years ago. The balsamic glaze is always thick. (It wasn’t balsamic vinaigrette.) I just want to politely point out that it’s not IN Staten Island, it’s ON Staten Island. Lol. Just sayin. Also it’s Fort “Wahdsworth” like when the doctor tells you to stick out your tongue and say ahhhhh lol. And Verrazano didn’t immigrate here. Glad to see a RUclips made about the island. There are so many more places as well. Alice Austin House, the SI Children’s Museum, the SI Zoo, the Greenbelt, the SI Museum, the Lighthouse on Lighthouse Hill, Todt Hill, Grymes Hill, Clove Lakes Park, Sliver Lake Park, National zlighthouse Museum, Wolfe’s Pond Park, Willowbrook Park and the Carousel (not sure if it’s still there), NY Chinese Scholar’s Garden, High Rock as the locals call it (Park), Blue Heron Park, Mount Loretto, Our Lady of Mt Carmel Grotto (so peaceful and there’s a Catholic Bookstore), the FDR Boardwalk, Brothers Pizza, Lee’s Tavern (Pizza), Wagner College views, St Paul’s and Ward Hill as a whole, Tappen Park where Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach” was filmed (and other Island sites that were in the video), and I could go on and on.
I lived on the Island for 38 years and never heard of 2 these places.
👍👍
Anyone else went to Richmond town on a school trip?
I grew up in Historic Richmondtown in the 1960s. I hated it then because it was a boring one horse town. Looking back I realize it was a pretty cool place to grow up.
HI SARAH; ITS BALSAMIC GLAZE...THATS WHY ITS SO THICK
idk but I love living here specially my area lmao
Hey, I love your videos. My only issue is the pizzeria beer menu is not local beers at least 8 of those beers are crappy imports and old stuff like Coors Light. But anyway congrats on your success!
I'm starving again after watching this...
haha right?
Makes me Hungry lol
@@SarahFunky I need your address again, so sorry, new arrival on the way for you.
@@SarahFunky any sign of the new arrival Sarah?
