How I Paint Things - Stormvermin

  • Another tutorial with some explanations along the way on how I paint my Stormvermin to get them on the table. A little discussion about how to get these things done as quickly as possible, talking about how to 'paint up' and avoid having to backtrack and cover mistakes, and a little on my personal taste when it comes to getting these verminous regiments ready for battle!
    A little bit of fussing with Sony Vegas took place during this one, so there's some new transitions and a little bit of audio tweaking, though it's still not quite as clear as I'd like. Either way, if this happened to help out at all, let me know!

    Wow, great tutorial! One thing I like to do with the eyes of my Skaven is use Stormhost Silver followed by Spiritstone Red to give a really menacing, glowing appearance.

      Thanks for the kind comment! I honestly wouldn't have thought of using a metallic paint on their eyes, but come to think of how the Spiritstone Red turns out once it's dry, that would really stand out. I'll have to give it a shot! Definitely something I'd save for the front rank, though... I'm not nearly so patient to paint 100 rat eyes - 200 if they're not winking!

    I just wanted to say thanks for the great video, I used a lot of your series of Skaven to pick and start painting my Skaven army. I finished my first Stormvermin today and I am super happy with it. Thanks so much!

    Bro, your Stormvermin look great. When I did mine, it took 5ever and was a chore. 😅 Also shoutout to Cadian Fleshtone being GREAT for Skaven (used that primarily on my Stormfiends). 💪🏽🐀👍🏽

      I just had a look for their paint scheme, they look really cool! I imagine they wouldn't be too difficult; I'll add them to the list to get around to. :)

    Hey man, good stuff.
    I would like to know, If it would be a good Idea to use a brown primer for the Stormvermin ?

    Apologies if you mentioned and I missed it, but what brown is that on the wood? It looks like mournfang but I'm not 100% sure

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio Awesome, thanks! I love your stuff by the way, I'm a relatively new painter and these "how I paint things" videos are what made me realize how good you can make stuff look with just simple techniques done well with good color choices, and it's made the whole learning process a lot more approachable. Cheers!

    Nice guide - Will definitely use this :)
    Quick question: What size round base did you use? I have 32mm but wondering if this it too big

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 лет назад

      The Skaven tend to look best on the 28mm bases, I find. Maybe an elite unit would look better on larger bases, but if you're playing rules-as-written rather than measuring from base to base, putting extra space between you and the enemy can work against you!

      Thanks for the reply :) One last quick question - What paint did you use for the wood? Sorry if this seems a basic question. These are the first Warhammer's I've painted in almost 20 years. Thanks again.

    Are there even any Stormvermin with such fur colour? I thought they all had black fur.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  3 года назад +1

      Flat black at this scale wouldn't look very interesting. A dark grey shaded with something looks close to black from a distance, but has more visual interest on the table.

      A Hell Pit Abomination? Do you mean the the 55€ plastic monster? They're not the sort of thing I just have laying around, I'm afraid.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks, John! I think with the Stormvermin being a fairly limited unit in your army it can pay to spend a little more time on them, since they'll usually be sticking near to the boss and make an easy centerpiece in smaller games.

      A unit of Stormvermin 'may have' shields, and it's an option available on the Warscroll Builder as well.
