The song that has followed Joe Strummer forever. Every band he’s played with all have their versions of this great tune, 101ers, The Clash, Latino Rockabilly War, the Mescaleros. I’m positive he probably played this one with The Vultures and busking with Tymon Dogg too.

There is no racist or hateful meaning to it, it’s a rebellious statement. Went to Grenada and found Joe's plaque in honour of him , it was a tiny place ,quite scruffy but i took a photo ans sat there and played Junko partner, straight to hell and guns of Brixton , loved it
I met Joe several times on Combat Rock tour (summer/fall 1982) and asked him about the origin of Junco Partner; he told me it was an old New Orleans tune sung by Ray Charles
James Waynes first recorded it in 1951 but in it is most associated with James Booker. Also recorded by Dr. John and Professor Longhair among others.

El inolvidable Joe Strummer falleció el 22 de diciembre de 2002 en su casa a causa de un ataque al corazón. Solo tenía 50 años y desde entonces se ha lamentado unanimemente su pérdida dentro del mundo del rock, sobre todo porque tenía todavía mucho que aportar. Para descubrir parte de su inspiración fuera de The Clash, llega "Assembly", un disco que resume su carrera sin sus compañeros de "London Calling" y sobre todo acompañado por The Mescaleros. El músico grabó cosas muy interesantes, en este recopilatorio Strummer indaga en la música jamaicana mientras da voz a los movimientos sindicales y a la lucha de clases. Hay que recordar que The Clash se pueden considerar los punks intelectuales, comparados con otras bandas de los 80, sus letras siempre estaban llenas de proclamas sociales y de reivindicaciones de justicia hacia la situación desigual de los obreros, siempre mal pagados. "Assembly" es una buena manera de introducirse en la faceta en solitario de Strummer.
