I am not a Christian and have no interest in coming back to the church. However, it is very nice to hear Christians with platforms who actually talk about the values that Jesus taught. Thank you. For what it is worth one of the doctors who was an observer at Nuremberg stated the common thread he noticed among the defendants was their complete lack of empathy. That is the thing that stands out to me about all these “Christians” who are loudly supporting Trump they all are devoid of empathy. Several months ago, I watched a documentary called Naziland, which is about the rise of Fascism in America during the early 1900s. I'm a history buff with regard to the Holocaust, egregious racism (Tulsa Massacre, housing discrimination), etc.--stuff I never learned in school. It was unnerving to realize that this happened in our country not that long ago. The documentary featured the American German Bund rally at MSG in 1939. The rhetoric coming from the extreme right has echoed so much of what I heard in that documentary.

Surely they know some of the blatant lies that has been told. I grew up in the Evangelical church and know there’s critical thinkers, logical thinkers in those spaces. It’s about power. While some are sitting under the delusion that he is ordained by God many KNOW that’s not truth. Donald Trump himself said it “you knew I was a snake before you took me in” and we couldn’t see it. I was finally able to come out of it when someone put me in my place telling me that Jesus never stood for Nationalism and he said “welcome the stranger in your home and love him as yourself”. Thank you for this. I'm a 50-something woman and former Evangelical. I was raised in a fairly liberal, sensible, college-educated loving home where we attended a mainline Christian church, but I was 'born again' in college. Afterwards, I got married to my partner in the faith and deeply involved in church life, working for a church-based business, homeschooling for a decade, etc. There was a far-right, Rush Limbaugh-loving element within my church, but mostly I ignored those people (all men). Over time, I got more and more disillusioned with my church, which itself went through a massive shift. I woke up in 2008, realizing I was completely lost as an artist and stifled as a woman. Ever so slowly, I withdrew from all of it, and in the summer of 2015 I quit for good. I can't remember how much of that had to do with Trump; I probably knew my Christian friends would side with him and that would be too much for me. I lost my entire social network, and that DID ME GOOD! I had some major regrets, shame, and guilt that have taken me years to work through, but I've come a long ways. My husband and I worked out a new path for ourselves, which has improved our marriage, and our kids came through with both strong values and an understanding of the perverseness of religion. We're ALL voting for Harris and against the incredible dangers of Trumpism. Personally, I think anyone on this deconstruction journey has a chance to identify with the archetype of Lilith. She wasn't going to bend to their rules, and she was shunned and demonized for it - or so goes the tale told to us by religious men. This is how many women feel about the modern church, which reduces women's input far more than Jesus ever did. The Council of Nicaea conveniently invited no women and wrote most of their influence out of the scriptures. Plus, in what other part of our lives do we cling to an archaic text for how to live? Imagine if medicine had never evolved from the time of Christ. We are meant to evolve! We don't have Christ's church anymore. I'm not sure we've had it since the time of Acts. I still remember hearing about the story of a Pastor being approached after Church by one of his parishioners and being asked why he had included such some liberal garbage in his sermon that day, and the Pastor revealed that he had literally been quoting Jesus’s own statements in his sermon. Thank you for this enlightening, fervent, revealing presentation. It’s one of the best things I’ve read about this troubling time in America’s history. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church in Oklahoma, so I think that would be considered an evangelical religion. It was when I went to college that my views broadened, bursting my religiocentric bubble and eased away from my church. There were definitely some loving and sincere Christians in my church. But I soon learned there were other ways to see the world that also had merit. I’m now 80 years old and full of dismay and fear as I see the disturbing direction taken by so many who consider themselves followers of Christ. Thank you for emphasizing the critical role of truth when it comes to the link between politics and religion.

This is such a crazy perspective to me. Yeah there’s a lot of gross rhetoric and they chose some really really dumb speakers. But if you sat down at a table with 80 to 90% of people voting for Trump, you find they have extremely high values and don’t even talk this way ever. I’m surrounded by these people in my community. They’re extremely loving and the furthest thing from the clan or Nazis.

This is why it was said way back when: "don't mix religion with politics." Religions are supposed be the ones holding the politician accountable, like John the Baptist with Herod. Once a religion is in bed with politics, it becomes against its self-interest to be critical of the politician. Jesus famously declined to join the Zelotes, opting to focus on his spiritual mission instead. That same call exists for churches, focus on the spiritual to the exclusion of the political. And yes, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and house the homeless (don't arrest them and throw them in jail, or separate their families).
I am deeply worried. I want to ask my Republican friends, “I know you don’t believe me that this is fascism, but what if you’re wrong? Even if the risk is as low as 25%, why would you take that risk with your freedom? With my freedom? With the freedom of your children? How can THIS be worth that kind of risk?”

As a teen I went to an evangelical church and a Christian school and all of this saddens me but doesn't surprise me... every time a minister would "us and them" us, or say "this is the only way" they were being un-Christlike. They were teaching people to not be Christ-ians but to be followers of the church leaders and go against good instincts, love, acceptance, and so many more things Jesus taught. And, "Christian" schools were judgemental, fearful, and the education wasn't great because they didn't allow critical thinking, embracing individuality, or being connected to our intuition. Years ago I was trying out a new church and the minister started bashing other religions. I quietly stood up and walked down the isle to leave and the minister started yelling at me. Yelling! I was shocked by that and that no one balked at that. I'll add, I'm petite, sweet, was in a nice sundress, and was trying to leave politely. I've never been treated like that anywhere. It was evil. It's really sad. I miss worship but... my beliefs include kindness and respect... those Christ like ways that aren't part of "Christian" churches.
The Bible clearly teaches that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, etc. We are called to love those who hate us and bless those who curse us. We need to pray and fast this week .Asking God for mercy and repentance for our country. Few months ago ,even before President Biden stepped down for running president and I saw on CBN news that people put the board sign Trump is savior for America,it broke my heart because our savior is Jesus,not men. I cried out to the Lord ,asked for mercy and our country need to repent .I never interceded prayer like before cried out to the Lord maybe almost a month and knelt down that I never done it before.That made me sad ,they use God ‘s name as their own agenda for politics. Just few days ago God gave me confirmation through song “we are the body of Christ “ on Ephesians 4( when I was listening on you tube ,I just cried ) ,the second confirmation, on scripture Ephesians 4:1-3 to pray for the unity at the church,when I was reading the scripture,I cried. I believe that God remind us to pray for unity in the church,we are as the body of Christ, because that the enemy to attack inside the body of Christ. Our enemies are not flesh and blood but the power of darkness.During my intercession prayer ,I cried out to the Lord ,how we are going to bring people to you Lord and believe in You if we are not act as Jesus’s follower.

I am a born-again Bible believing Follower of Jesus Christ. I was 15 when I made this choice. I am 70 now. It took me a long time to learn to go to my prayer closet and fall on my knees when I needed Jesus to truly lead me and guide me about anything. From the smallest most insignificant thing to something that is life changing. He has never failed me. Never. The moment that trump came down that escalator I fell on my face and ask the Lord 'what say you'. What the Lord showed me and what he said to me I rarely speak of. Instead, I have prayed. I left the political ring in 1995. Again because of prayer and Chapter 2 of ll Thess. If what you think the Lord says to you can not be backed up by scripture, throw it in the trash can. I have suffered greatly because of trump. But God has allowed it. It left me in awe of how political the church became. How family, both your natural family and your spiritual family will turn on you. I watched my dearest Sisters and Brothers leave their prayer closets and turned on the Word of God and cut the very head of the TRUTH off. There hope now a political process and somehow the rock of their salvation. Their whole belief system now hinges on trump saving the world from demons that he, himself, has and will summon over time. How is this possible? ll Thess 2: 1-12. Take special notice of verse 11. God himself sent a STRONG delusion that they, who is they, US, CHRISTIANS, that they should believe a lie.... hold fast little ones to the TRUTH. Satan will come as an Angel of LIGHT. Hold fast little ones the TRUTH that now is......GOD IS THE HEAD OVER ALL THINGS. Trust the words and hope of salvation from NO ONE except Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. And like Paul said, KNOW NOTHING SAVE JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED. Let the Truth and prayer give you great discernment in these last days. Hide yourself in the Cross. We have no idea what we will face before Jesus comes. But the Bible says he is coming after the OVERCOMERS. Of what? The world, the flesh and the Devil. How do we do that? As Jesus hung upon the Cross, he was NEVER distracted by the hate death and darkness that was going on below him or around him. I told my sibling that Trump is not a Christian and she told me " i don't know his heart" when did the church stop teaching about the fruits of the spirit? I was raised Southern Baptist in the 80s but was repulsed by the hypocrisy and exclusion. They see their white majority slipping away and they are clawing at anything and anybody to try and maintain "the good ol' days". I’ve been working on getting a green card for my husband who is from Africa. Honestly, if trump gets elected I will be afraid for his life because for Trump, he wants to get rid of immigrants, and I’m convinced it will be undocumented and documented immigrants. I’m now understanding that my husband isn’t actually welcome to America. The government and now the people are going to try anything they can to keep him from coming.

For what it is worth one of the doctors who was an observer at Nuremberg stated the common thread he noticed among the defendants was their complete lack of empathy. That is the thing that stands out to me about all these “Christians” who are loudly supporting Trump they all are devoid of empathy. I am truly sick of the Right making excuses and gaslighting with all the rage, blasphemy, hypocrisy and cruelty. JD Vance is the perfect example of a person who could pivot on any question about the Christian Right's words and conduct and then turn around and blame, blame, blame the Left for anything wrong in the universe.
Vance never answers a question directly. He often 'answers' by attacking Harris/Walz on an un-related issue. Or he defers to Trump by saying "President Trump and I believe..." He is like Gumby, so flexible in his beliefs he bends to be who he needs to be to his advantage. Not a Mike Pence fan but he gets huge props for standing up to Trump. Vance went from being a Trump-hater to his bootlicker. He flip-flops so often it's wonder he can keep his opinions consistent. If Trump wins, Vance is one heartbeat away from the presidency, which is a very disturbing thought.

Several months ago, I watched a documentary called Naziland, which is about the rise of Fascism in America during the early 1900s. I'm a history buff with regard to the Holocaust, egregious racism (Tulsa Massacre, housing discrimination), etc.--stuff I never learned in school. It was unnerving to realize that this happened in our country not that long ago. The documentary featured the American German Bund rally at MSG in 1939. The rhetoric coming from the extreme right has echoed so much of what I heard in that documentary.

I had several days early in the movement, I felt there was a huge cloud of deception & my loved ones and other Christians I had trusted were under or in it. I was so upset & confused & wanted them to snap out of it .! Idk... I do know many saw truth and changed. But still voting for him, blows my mind. There genuinely is dark magic involved because I was delusional while in it as well and I wouldn’t listen to anyone else, and that’s the definition of delusional to refuse the truth even if it’s in your face. Donald Trump himself said it “you knew I was a snake before you took me in” and we couldn’t see it. I was finally able to come out of it when someone put me in my place telling me that Jesus never stood for Nationalism and he said “welcome the stranger in your home and love him as yourself”. I was raised in a fairly liberal, sensible, college-educated loving home where we attended a mainline Christian church, but I was 'born again' in college. Afterwards, I got married to my partner in the faith and deeply involved in church life, working for a church-based business, homeschooling for a decade, etc. There was a far-right, Rush Limbaugh-loving element within my church, but mostly I ignored those people (all men). Over time, I got more and more disillusioned with my church, which itself went through a massive shift.
I woke up in 2008, realizing I was completely lost as an artist and stifled as a woman. Ever so slowly, I withdrew from all of it, and in the summer of 2015 I quit for good. I can't remember how much of that had to do with Trump; I probably knew my Christian friends would side with him and that would be too much for me. I lost my entire social network, and that DID ME GOOD! I had some major regrets, shame, and guilt that have taken me years to work through, but I've come a long ways. My husband and I worked out a new path for ourselves, which has improved our marriage, and our kids came through with both strong values and an understanding of the perverseness of religion. We're ALL voting for Harris and against the incredible dangers of Trumpism.
Personally, I think anyone on this deconstruction journey has a chance to identify with the archetype of Lilith. She wasn't going to bend to their rules, and she was shunned and demonized for it - or so goes the tale told to us by religious men. This is how many women feel about the modern church, which reduces women's input far more than Jesus ever did. The Council of Nicaea conveniently invited no women and wrote most of their influence out of the scriptures. Plus, in what other part of our lives do we cling to an archaic text for how to live? Imagine if medicine had never evolved from the time of Christ. We are meant to evolve!

I still remember hearing about the story of a Pastor being approached after Church by one of his parishioners and being asked why he had included such some liberal garbage in his sermon that day, and the Pastor revealed that he had literally been quoting Jesus’s own statements in his sermon. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church in Oklahoma, so I think that would be considered an evangelical religion. It was when I went to college that my views broadened, bursting my religiocentric bubble and eased away from my church. There were definitely some loving and sincere Christians in my church. But I soon learned there were other ways to see the world that also had merit. I’m now 80 years old and full of dismay and fear as I see the disturbing direction taken by so many who consider themselves followers of Christ. Thank you for emphasizing the critical role of truth when it comes to the link between politics and religion.

This is such a crazy perspective to me. Yeah there’s a lot of gross rhetoric and they chose some really really dumb speakers. But if you sat down at a table with 80 to 90% of people voting for Trump, you find they have extremely high values and don’t even talk this way ever. I’m surrounded by these people in my community. They’re extremely loving and the furthest thing from the clan or Nazis.

Religions are supposed be the ones holding the politician accountable, like John the Baptist with Herod. Once a religion is in bed with politics, it becomes against its self-interest to be critical of the politician.
Jesus famously declined to join the Zelotes, opting to focus on his spiritual mission instead. That same call exists for churches, focus on the spiritual to the exclusion of the political. And yes, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and house the homeless (don't arrest them and throw them in jail, or separate their families).

As a teen I went to an evangelical church and a Christian school and all of this saddens me but doesn't surprise me... every time a minister would "us and them" us, or say "this is the only way" they were being un-Christlike. They were teaching people to not be Christ-ians but to be followers of the church leaders and go against good instincts, love, acceptance, and so many more things Jesus taught. And, "Christian" schools were judgemental, fearful, and the education wasn't great because they didn't allow critical thinking, embracing individuality, or being connected to our intuition. Years ago I was trying out a new church and the minister started bashing other religions. I quietly stood up and walked down the isle to leave and the minister started yelling at me. Yelling! I was shocked by that and that no one balked at that. I'll add, I'm petite, sweet, was in a nice sundress, and was trying to leave politely. I've never been treated like that anywhere. It was evil. It's really sad. I miss worship but... my beliefs include kindness and respect... those Christ like ways that aren't part of "Christian" churches.

We need to pray and fast this week .Asking God for mercy and repentance for our country. Few months ago ,even before President Biden stepped down for running president and I saw on CBN news that people put the board sign Trump is savior for America,it broke my heart because our savior is Jesus,not men. I cried out to the Lord ,asked for mercy and our country need to repent .I never interceded prayer like before cried out to the Lord maybe almost a month and knelt down that I never done it before.That made me sad ,they use God ‘s name as their own agenda for politics. Just few days ago God gave me confirmation through song “we are the body of Christ “ on Ephesians 4( when I was listening on you tube ,I just cried ) ,the second confirmation, on scripture Ephesians 4:1-3 to pray for the unity at the church,when I was reading the scripture,I cried. I believe that God remind us to pray for unity in the church,we are as the body of Christ, because that the enemy to attack inside the body of Christ. Our enemies are not flesh and blood but the power of darkness.During my intercession prayer ,I cried out to the Lord ,how we are going to bring people to you Lord and believe in You if we are not act as Jesus’s follower.

Someone can destroy lives and seemingly not make much of restitution and only feel sad about THEIR actions...and this sick religion lets them think they are "forgiven" and will "go to heaven". Restitution ? An apology even ?? Not beLIEving that "stuff". Been "crapped" on by enough "people of faith" who go to church afterwards and think they've wiped themselves clean with "blood of jesus". Enjoyed this commentary. This guy is spot on. Tim Alberta said a couple years ago that MAGA has made Trump into an idol, their golden calf. The lesson from the Israelites was not everyone worshipped the calf - but a lot did and lost their life.
I am a born-again Bible believing Follower of Jesus Christ. I was 15 when I made this choice. I am 70 now. It took me a long time to learn to go to my prayer closet and fall on my knees when I needed Jesus to truly lead me and guide me about anything. From the smallest most insignificant thing to something that is life changing. He has never failed me. Never. The moment that trump came down that escalator I fell on my face and ask the Lord 'what say you'. What the Lord showed me and what he said to me I rarely speak of. Instead, I have prayed. I left the political ring in 1995. Again because of prayer and Chapter 2 of ll Thess. If what you think the Lord says to you can not be backed up by scripture, throw it in the trash can. I have suffered greatly because of trump. But God has allowed it. It left me in awe of how political the church became. How family, both your natural family and your spiritual family will turn on you. I watched my dearest Sisters and Brothers leave their prayer closets and turned on the Word of God and cut the very head of the TRUTH off. There hope now a political process and somehow the rock of their salvation. Their whole belief system now hinges on trump saving the world from demons that he, himself, has and will summon over time. How is this possible? ll Thess 2: 1-12. Take special notice of verse 11. God himself sent a STRONG delusion that they, who is they, US, CHRISTIANS, that they should believe a lie.... hold fast little ones to the TRUTH. Satan will come as an Angel of LIGHT. Hold fast little ones the TRUTH that now is......GOD IS THE HEAD OVER ALL THINGS. Trust the words and hope of salvation from NO ONE except Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. And like Paul said, KNOW NOTHING SAVE JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED. Let the Truth and prayer give you great discernment in these last days. Hide yourself in the Cross. We have no idea what we will face before Jesus comes. But the Bible says he is coming after the OVERCOMERS. Of what? The world, the flesh and the Devil. How do we do that? As Jesus hung upon the Cross, he was NEVER distracted by the hate death and darkness that was going on below him or around him. I can't imagine what he was going through as he hung there NAKED being called every name imaginable. Laughed at scorned and mocked. Yet looking up never down. And trust me, the Father was there. He NEVER FORSAKE HIS SON. How do I know that? When it was finished his soul and spirit fell back into his Fathers hands. The plan that had taken eons of time to complete was finished. Jesus will be there for us as we hide ourselves in the Cross. He will never leave us or forsake us. JUST HOLD FAST. DO NOT MOVE. BE STILL. Look up little ones. Our redemption draweth nigh.

When did they etop teaching about living our testimony? Truly heartbroken that they believe this man is a Christian. I was raised Southern Baptist in the 80s but was repulsed by the hypocrisy and exclusion. They see their white majority slipping away and they are clawing at anything and anybody to try and maintain "the good ol' days". Trump has tapped into this fear and used it for his selfish advancement. It's almost comical if it wasn't so tragic to see unfold.

I have lived through the abuses of the shepherding movement in the 80’s & 90’s, with the indoctrination of the church leaders intimidating women to submit even to abusive husbands, to the peril of our mental, & emotional sanity. I have viewed videos & interviews of you & Tim Alberta, who is so good at expressing the intense disappointment in the apparent hypocrisy of what we were taught, & now what they have become in shape shifting all the truth & values we were originally taught back during the charismatic movement of the 70’s!!😢. It has been a long 28 years of solitude & my chosen isolation from churches & only recently, this past year have begun to slowly tip toe my way to becoming engaged with other believers. I will still maintain my own independence of thinking & boundaries, & am choosing more carefully the SAFE people to include in my life. I just want you to know that you are not alone in your struggles with the church, evangelicals, & especially the cadre of political leaders reminiscent of Germany 1939 & the cruelty & tyranny of the Hitlerian/Trumpian values. I saw all the relics, enlarged pictures of the concentration camps in Dachau myself on a trip to visit my brother back as a teenager in 1970! I’ve been working on getting a green card for my husband who is from Africa. Honestly, if trump gets elected I will be afraid for his life because for Trump, he wants to get rid of immigrants, and I’m convinced it will be undocumented and documented immigrants. I’m now understanding that my husband isn’t actually welcome to America. The government and now the people are going to try anything they can to keep him from coming.

When Trump called Covid the Chinese virus, many Asians were targeted. My aunts and uncles living in the Bay Area was afraid to walk to work. Many got beat up or bullied because of what he said. For Trump to say that the world was safer and great under him is a flat out lie!
