I think I've seen this video the last time in 2003 & I clearly remember that it was by far my most favourite video on THPS3.. This guy's skills are crazy..
This got me into skating back in 2002. I was 7 years old in Chicago in 1998 and my neighbor who I looked up to, this older kid, got a skateboard. I always wanted to copy him so I asked my parents for one. As most kids do I was hyped on it for a week or so then the board just sat around. Years later I had a PS1 demo disc featuring THPS2 and liked the game enough to ask for THPS3 on X-Mas. I wasnt trying to skate at all, just liked the games. Then I saw this video and it changed my life. I was so hyped on it I immediately went to my backyard to the shed to dig out my old board and as soon as my mom and dad came home from work I made them sit down and watch this. In that very moment I became a skater. I quickly picked up riding and eventually in summer 2002 during a trip to Florida my dad got me my first real skateboard, an element with destructo trucks and 53mm element wheels from Vans. Today at age 31, I still love skating and although I got a bad injury years ago and can no longer do it, I have amassed a skateboard collection worth 20K. Skateboarding still takes up most of my time and most of my life is still based on it. I regret to say out of my whole collection I dont own any Rodney boards. I heavily gravitated toward other brands and skaters after he got me into skating. But I'll never forget Rodney and what he did for me. Thank you Rodney Mullen.

I'm 38 years old now and I've just picked skating back up. I stopped because all my friends did. I've learned it's not so much the age but the fact that often times we become content with the same old routine of going to work then coming home and unwinding from the grind. After witnessing Tony Hawk still hitting vert and landing the 900 at the age of 50..I felt I had no excuse not to get back out there. Only difference is now Im wearing protective gear because I have a family to provide for.

Man, I remember watching Mullen when I first started skating as a kid. Never been so inspired and blown away! The GOAT of street and probably overall skating!
This is how i found him. I'll never forget that feeling if wonderment when i unlocked this video in the game. I was never big into skateboarding, didnt follow it, but a friend of mine got me playing thps2 so when 3 came out I got it. This did blow me away, every other video in that game had a kick flip at best, ok Tony's vert work was good too, but all the other street work was just....... Basic compared to Rodney, and it wasnt just by a little. I watched this hundreds of times because it was the only thing i had with him on it, waaaay before RUclips. Goat.
It’s crazy, while I knew how insane this was when I was a kid, I never knew the extent of it until I got older. Not only was he was the goat of freestyle and invented many tricks, he decided to keep up with the change in skateboarding during that time and conquered the streets as well. Makes me appreciate him that much more than I did back then.
nah, it was a nollieflip underflip. it changes the dynamic because his front foot now engages the underflip, which is uncommon and viewed as more difficult.
First saw this video when I was a kid, young kid. I'm now 25 and realizing the background song is AFI!! one of my favorite bands that I also discovered as a young kid.. I had no idea. Such a good video
Always a pleasant surprise hearing AFI in anything. I know this song was in this game but jeez the world has all but forgotten about their “good” music.
I remember first beating the game. My fav character was RM and my fav song in the game was “the boy who destroyed the world”. When I finally unlocked the vid I was so happy that two of my favorite aspects of the game were combined by some Devine miracle lol. RM is a freak of nature. He makes the impossible look easy. Legend
now that we're older and more aware, it should be just as impressive, or more. I'm surprised by boomers, that they never reached any level of awareness, what did they put in the food back then. Lead.
Rodney Mullen seems like the closest thing to a real life THPS skater. Every other pro skater's video just shows them doing one or two tricks at a time, whereas Rodney Mullen is shown doing a ton of impressive combos, which are the basis of THPS gameplay.
It doesn't even look possible or real... he's freaking AMAZING.... it doesn't make sense how he can flip and balance that board like that! It boggles my mind every time i see him.
Pretty much all he did growing up in his teens is practice this stuff. All day, everyday. He was very dedicated. Same way someone gets great at playing piano or whatever else. He just worked harder than everyone else. Really anyone can do this if youre willing to put the time in. When he was skating guys were too busy trying to look cool on the board. He didnt care about that. Thats why he wore full pads most of the time when that wasnt considered cool. He just wanted to get better at flipping it around. Didnt care what anyone else thought.
@@trenken Well no, a lot of that's not true. Rodney initially started skating literally because it was what all the cool guys were doing and he wanted to fit in with them. He smoked weed with them when he was 10. That's why he was doing vert when he started skating, vert was popular and cool. It wasn't until after he got hurt and his dad forced him to wear full pads all the time and to stay away from vert skating. Which worked for the best because he ended up have a passion for flatground skating. He said he knew early on as a kid he had a natural talent for skating, all he did was add his hardcore work ethic and boom. Rodney cared a lot about what people thought back then, that's why he was so competitive and even transitioned into street skating with his friends when freestyle was dying out.

So many years later, and this still makes my head explode. I can barely keep my balance getting up in the morning...
Rodney Mullen is a true skateboarding legend. Big love from Bergen, Norway.
ICONIC! Half of us dont even skate anymore but this is still unforgettable part of our lives.
@@blkeclipsel2400 power to you my friend. Age is nothing but a number. Glad you’re seeing your safety is priority. But your mental well being is just as important for you as your safety is for your family.
Skate on bro. 🤙🏽
Rodney Mullen: king of the baggy pants.
Lmao my dad used to say maybe he'd skate better if he put up his pants and put his ass away
Dem were the days.
Funny because 80's Rodney was king of the short shorts
I still remember every second of this video. I havent seen it since probably 2003 and I still remembered what was coming next and even the sound according to the rhythm of the song. Haha wow.
This ABSOLUTELY is one of the best videos. It was my personal favorite
The Hendrix of the Skate.
Hendrix wishes
Malmsteen*
Robert Johnson*
He's still alive, so more like Paul McCartney*
The Michael Jordan of Skate
some of these clips are cemented in my mind, rodney mullen's a GOAT!
That yellow tile bank lives in my head rent free
25 years later and Rodney is still next level
At 1:10 he does one of the best tricks I've ever seen (if not the best). Please watch it at 0.25x speed. It's so subtle yet impressive.
+nmlss it's a nollieflip underflip. pretty sure he's the only one who can do it lol
***** Kickflip Underflip I think. But whatever is called, it's impressive. Best skater ever by far.
nah, it was a nollieflip underflip. it changes the dynamic because his front foot now engages the underflip, which is uncommon and viewed as more difficult.
i think how many times did he fail
he does it so much higher and cleaner than jonny
those people in the back at 0:25 looked away like they didnt see one of the coolest tricks in their lives
I've always wondering what there both doing with their arms?
it made me mad tbh, i would pee myself if i see someone do that
First saw this video when I was a kid, young kid.
Legend
Is it weird? that I am still getting just as excited, as 19 years ago Watching this? 😂😂😂 Rodney tha Godfather Mullen! 🛹
Not at all!! Im still just as amazed! Guy is unbelievable
Rodney is the definition of next level street skateboarding! 🤙
He was lightyears ahead of its time.
schwöre bruder
now that we're older and more aware, it should be just as impressive, or more.
This is the video where I discovered my favorite skateboarder :)
I watched this so much in-game! This with my fav AFI song is the best skateboarding video I've seen to date. :)
They should remake THPS 3.
This guy was the best hands down!! Love his work.
Yoo😂😂
skate 3 looks realistic compared to this guy... wow
mans tricklining irl
I just appreciate the opportunity to view this masterpiece ART!! Period
i wish i could have a good sense of equilibrium to pull off even half of these stunts Rodney does.
i love street-style skating because of him.
He will always be my favorite skater of all time. That is God given talent, and love.
I come back to watch this every couple of years but def love this dude.
It doesn't even look possible or real... he's freaking AMAZING.... it doesn't make sense how he can flip and balance that board like that! It boggles my mind every time i see him.
He's using cheats
I remember when I first watched this as a young skateboarder an thinking 'fuck, the rules just changed' lol
watching Rodney gets my adrenaline pumping RESPECT to the legend!
I feel like those who tried to replicate his tricks truly appreciates the man
THPS 2 is my favorite but the 3rd will always hold a special place in my heart. From the levels to the music, to the skate clips, beautiful
I prefer THPS3 over THPS2, but there are 2 things I prefer in THPS2, first Spider-man and Second the Sountrack!
