There is actually more to the heading vs. bearing distinction. A BEARING as you said, is a line in a given direction from one point to another. The HEADING is the direction an aircraft must be pointed to fly that bearing. This is greatly affected by wind (especially in the real world). So if you are given a bearing of due north (360) but the wind is 70 knots out of the west (as it frequently is at altitude in the real world), you would have to fly a heading to the left of the bearing. How far left depends upon your airspeed--the slower your speed, the greater the correction. Since everyone's speed is different, as is the wind at their location, AWACS gives you a bearing and leaves it to you to make the correction.
Heading is the direction an aircraft is pointing. Track is the direction the aircraft is travelling across the ground. The difference between the two is your drift angle as a result of thee effect of the wind.
“In the scope of DCS” You must have missed that part. More than likely you came with the intent to spread your “knowledge”, but failed to pay attention.
In my understanding, although DCS' AI AWACS writes it out "BRA", it is actually BRAA -- Bearing, Range, Altitude, Aspect. Aspect is typically only used when the subject target is not hot on you.
Hello, recently flying with f / a18 and I would like to know why an awacs with settings via Mission Editor (Radio Usage when contact) does not detect and transmit the position and distance of enemy ships. Thanks for your answer
Flying Basics: Communicating With & Understanding AWACS Calls all over the BRA information, like we dont know what we are watching. When you are trying to learn it's a little frustrating because it makes it harder to follow along. And on another note you generally make awesome content and I appreciate all the work you put into tutorial video's! So so sorry about my whinge because your tutorials like I said are very much appreciated.
Awesome video Cap! the Mag Dec solves my issue with why the Su-25 finds bandits easier then the Viggen.... you learn something new every day oh and unless DCS has done an update which i'm not aware of..... AWACS calls are always Imperial which is a bugger as one has to do a simple but annoying calculation when in a Metric plane
The Ka-50 manual points out that the helicopter's magnetic compass is affected both by magnetic variation of the region and deviation caused by the helicopter's own magnetic field. There's an accompanying graph which indicates that the total degrees of deviation are a product of region AND heading with the greatest deviation at 180 degrees and minimums at: 30, 60, 100, ~140, 245, 275, 315, and ~355 degrees.
You probably know by now, but bullseye is used as a reference so noone of the friendly forces gives off his own position and with every transmission from a friendly everyone knows where to look in reference to that bullseye point.
Thank you, that made things much clearer for me. I'm still confused a little about bullseye though. I understand how it's referenced but not how it's there or what it is.
Billy Nicely Bullseye is an arbitrary point in space decided by commanders that all friendly forces will know, all friendly players can then reference the bra from the bullseye in a semi covert format, so that if any enemy forces are listening, they cannot quickly identify any position that friendly forces are talking about
You should give the magnetic declination (variation) with a West or East or plus or minus. 6 degrees doesn’t tell me anything because I don’t know whether to add or subtract 6 degrees from the true bearing giving to me by AWACS.
Great video. I found it super confusing that 'hot' is an aircraft heading towards you, i imagined hot would mean you are facing the engines and cold the bogey could be flying towards you... Anyway... Very helpful video
In F4.0, a bugged bandit had the altitude and range from bullseye shown on the HSD (along with one’s own plane’s location compared to bullseye shown.) Does this not work in DCS?
G'day to you too Cap,have you ever played with the F18 super hornet in arma 3(the clickable mod one)? is it decent? and does arma support joysticks? (why am I asking you? because I'm lazy :D,and to say hi :D)
@@grimreapers Copy Cap,I have tried it yesterday and it's pretty freaking cool, nowhere near as many buttons as the dcs hornet but at least the basic start up and hsi related stuff is there (and the wing flex is beautiful) and as far as I've seen it has all the weapons that the dcs one has lol(and maybe more, since it's the super hornet). Only gripes I have with it are the disgusting lock on sounds :'D
You didnt really comment on heading "Hot" which is heading towards a friendly group. If it was "Cold" then it would be heading away from friendly group.
How does one know whether its feet or meters in DCS? In some places it tells you feet but others like the signal flares for example they give no indication whether its in feet or meters.
Great vids! Can you pleaaaaaaase tell me why the F7 key does not work when trying to contact awacs? PS it it is lit also my Track ir is only enabled for f12. Thanks
I just wanna know why it keeps repeating. I watch videos and never hear it repeat to them. WHAT DO I DO TO SILENCE THAT DAMN THING. Every time I play it never shuts up.

You are correct !
Thanks! Good information to know! Had no idea DCS simulated the magnetic declination!
Excellent information. I'm getting a handle on everything and I definitely would NOT be grasping it so quickly if not for your videos. Thank you!!!
This was a great video to explain what the AWACS was telling me. Now next time I'll know a little more about what's going on.

4 years later, and his videos are still helping me
Now DCS will make a little more sense. Thanks CAP

It's just in full screen that the title covers the BRA info, full screen however is best to use as you can follow through with comm's etc easier.

Interesting :)
You guys do it all! Thanks!
thank you for letting me know about magnetic declination, i never wouldve known lol

useful and fast as always XD

TYVM! THAT SHIT GETS ON MY NERVES. SOUNDED LIKE A BUNCH OF NONSENSE TILL NOW LOL

This helps me I don't pkay dcs butbi do try to learn all of the calmouts because inolan on getting it and a PC this game looks fun

Just say SA Page and Data Link.. But if you are not flying the Hornet this is very useful! Thx

The day you understand you are not bullseye, you feel like a new man 😅
DCS:
AC: "tHiS iS aWaCs lOnG cAsTeR"
In the flaming cliffs modules how do I get the AWACS to shut up? It's drowning me in information repeating the same thing over and over again.

F7 is for controlling ground units only
Great !
Is the fa-18’s heading indicator true north or magnetic?
Is AWACS always AI or are there ever real people giving you the AWACS radio call outs during missions?
Can do both. Depends if any of the AWACS human are available for mission.

me who will most likely never play dcs: mmm yes interesting
How do i see the frequency of an awacs on a multiplayer server?
Should be in mission briefing.
@@grimreapers yeah i saw it and there is info on the kneepad as well thanks for the reply cap.
I thought it was BRAA
It should be BRAA
Its BRA?
I thought they are calling me Bruh
Now i am disappointed

Complicated is an understatement. and frankly none of these tutors help hahahha
Just out of interest is there anyway other than F10 (cheating) of working out where a vector from bullseye is relative to you?
Can this be applied to real life?
I don;t really know, but I would suppose so.
Most of this stuff is pretty close, but not perfectly accurate. Why would you need this in real life?
datalink is not working
I wanted to see you click Declare 😥
why u so loud bro
think you forgot to turn your audio down, hes not loud
