Sylux: An Analysis (The Richard-MacIntyre Metroid Theory)

  • In this video, I consider and refute two theories about Sylux. The first theory argues that Sylux is Ian Malkovich. The second theory argues that Sylux is Samus' long-lost brother. I present a third theory, which not only maintains the parallels of the second theory, but heavily expands on and strays away from the notion that Sylux and Samus are siblings. Hence why I still credit MacIntyre. I then present a fourth theory, which is entirely my own.

Something else about the two's color schemes:
Samus's color scheme tends to be a lot brighter and more vibrant, and consists of warm colors (red, orange, yellow). The green on her looks to be a warmer yellow-green as well.
Sylux, on the other hand, has a predominantly darker blue, with bright green lights. Note that blue is a cool color, and this green leans more blue.
If you were to try and run with this, you could reason that, in this context, Samus is brighter and more warm, yet Sylux may be more dark and cold (which I find fitting for their characters).
The green lights on both of them could therefore still indicate something in common...

What I'd like to see is two campaigns of samus and sylux.
you start off as sammy exploring an area all clueless like, losing her powers and what not and then BOOM, sylux bursts through a wall like a badass in the same area samus started off at on the hunt for her, also exploring the same surroundings she's just been in, but while playing as him.
or add some horror elements like SA-X in fusion, but with sylux going after her and you gotta run away until you get strong enough. Though at the same time, Sylux is also getting stronger

Spot on with Sylux being a professional trapper and espionage runner. I know we'll see all of the Prime Hunters return in this decade, it will be exciting to see what will play out in Metroid Prime 4.

@@MetroidTheorist I think Spire and Noxus will align with Samus.
Trace probably will snipe Sylux on sight (if he's not currently being demoted/punished for coming back to the Kriken Empire empty handed.)
Weavel only if Sylux strikes a deal with the Space Pirates, but I feel like Weavel wouldn't trust him. Especially if Weavel's "European Knight" design inspiration plays a part in some form of "code of honor" for him despite being a Space Pirate General.
Kanden is honestly a really cool SA-X/EMMI like wild card that I could see popping up as a surprise space horror encounter in locations similar to the G.F.S. Valhalla / could see Sylux as "Wanted" and go for the Bounty, making Samus have to track him down in some kind of campaign plot twist.

I agree with you on everything when it comes to Sylux. I think it'd be pretty cool if he were to be Samus brother but then I always find myself kinda asking if he was then why does he have beef with her??? Also after Raven Beak I feel like they wouldn't want to do the whole Samus fighting her family thing again because we just did it. She's fought an evil version of “herself” in dark Samus, she's fought a surrogate father in Raven Beak, I wouldn't be against another “family reunion” but it feels like something they wouldn't do just to avoid being repetitive (I know you could say Ridley is “repetitive” but he's also iconic so he kinda has the right to be lol)

@@imjustlookingformykeys7429 Thanks! I feel like Sylux being Samus' brother would be obvious. I'm not against it, I just think the reveal wouldn't be surprising. Not that this can't happen. Even being an anti-thesis of Samus is compatible with Sylux being Samus' brother, but both can also exist independently.

RavenBeak isn't family, he's the Chozo equivalent of Hitler. All the peace loving technologically advanced Chozo she knew are dead by his hand. She literally hates him and the other Mawkin as much as, if not more than, Ridley.
(He also manipulated her DNA as a child with the plan to eventually turn her and the X-Parasites into a weapon against the rest of the galaxy...)

These are some neat details I didn't think of, nice video! I understanding exploring the "Sylux is Ian" and "Sylux is Samus' brother" theories since they're the only things we could know about as to Sylux's identity. However I'm hoping Sylux is someone/something new, if nothing else to show a new side of the Metroid universe and explore that subject as a result. I like the idea of Sylux being a dark parallel of Samus is the sense that Sylux is what Samus could have been like. Samus was saved by the Chozo after her home was destroyed and this turned her into a force for good. Sylux however could have been the opposite, where something important to him was destroyed (possibly by the Federation for whatever reason) causing Sylux to go down a different path than Samus did.

It does make sense that Sylux could be Ian, since he probably became disillusioned that Samus, his brother, and the GF in general left him for dead, which would make him feel betrayed. He’s like Bucky Barnes going all Winter Soldier on them as Sylux.

I think he's actually a double agent working undercover for the Federation. Would explain how the BSL got Metroids or DNA to clone that Samus didn't know about. Mirrors the way the CIA doesn't talk to other agencies.

Yes. I was referring to the modern remake. If you took my words to mean that I am saying that we'll see Metroid II in the form of Metroid Prime, I wasn't saying that. I was saying that Metroid Prime 4 would be the catalyst that leads to Metroid II, thus ending the Metroid Prime sub-series.
