Man that was such an awesome video!!! I've been looking at e53s for she's as i need one to tow my racecar and replace my old truck. And was always scared of the autos. I'm going to buy a n57 one and swap it, thanks for giving me the inspiration and confidence to do the swap! Subbed!
I believe it has +1 clutch and steel in one drum and a bored out bell housing for the larger tq converter. And different software I'd guess for the tcu. It is still a 5hp24 and I believe people will replace the 4.6is specific unit with a 4.4 v8 unit w no ill effects. One guy in Europe 6 speed swapped his 46is and did a custom rear section and a hardened steel spline portion to fit the transfer case. That transfer case is pretty reliable I think overall.
I just met a guy recently that has a 4.6is X5 that was manual swapped and they retained the AWD. So it is still possible, although I'm pretty sure a custom adapter was made for it.
@@Garageaholic I didn't get the guys name but I could probably find it out. It was an Imola 4.6 with a full Supersprint exhaust from headers to mufflers. Sounded absolutely glorious.
@@jharmon0718I’d love to chat with that guy as well! I just recently acquired my 4.6is and as amazing as the car is with its factory setup, I too foresee myself swapping it down the line!
hi this is a great project, let me ask you a quick question for this project what type of transmission did you use to get a transmission to this one, or what other transmissions can be used to swap the e53 4.4 m62 engine. (automatic to manual) thank you
I happen to have a e39 manual pedal box and a m54 manual box so I may look into getting a x5 and do the 3l manual swap on one . Now to find a stuffed gearbox x5 cheap
Just found a 4.6is that needs a transmission for 500 bucks, now I want one😂 Hey if you wanna give me a good deal on that trans then maybe I’d buy it lol
If you have to buy all the parts, not counting any diff work or laptop/SW to code the computers out, (trans, custom brace, driveshaft, shifter) about $4k parts probably
I'm really interested at what you did here. By taking it from an automatic to a standard, I've been trying to figure out your video of where you got the transmission from, where you got the flywheel, from, what transmission you used, where the what the transmission come out of there's just certain details that you're not giving within your video that as a backyard mechanic, I need that information so that I can make this same very switch myself and to have it function properly, as you have the wiring is somewhat simple to figure out, although some more detail on that would be fantastic. Is there any way that you could send me an email? I will? Give you my email address as soon as I hear a reply back from you.I'm very interested in this.I would like to do this and make this attempt myself.I have an 02 x five, with the four point four is into it and I'd like to do this myself
Perhaps a subscription for help would do you good. Send me an email, or check my website for the subscription product and I would be happy to sit with you
Very interesting swap Frank. You did a great job! Thanks for sharing. Dutch regards Nico.
Is it just me, or have e53s aged really well?
Theyve agreed really well
Just you
@@Dranreb865 I'm sorry about your small PP.
Loving this prime 🔥

Welcome!!! Good luck!
Dude this was so awesome. Liked and subscribed! I’m the process of purchasing a 4.6is myself!
Just an fyi, that transmission and torque converter is 4.6is specific. Probably a good keep for someone who needs to repair or replace their own 4.6..

@spencermaiers8322 the 4.6is has a bespoke Alpina high stall torque converter it's different from the one in the 4.4i
Good job this kind of ppl deserve likes
That is some amazing work!!! Kudos!
And super nice e53!!
Amazing content, big implication& dedication, thanks!
What kind of content did you have playing in the background at 41:45 😂
Amazing
I like your spring compressor but you should have a cup so the bottom cannot squirt out
Do you have the dimensions needed for the drive shaft length?
No existía la manera de dejarla con tracción 4x4 y caja manual?
The e53 30d does it have the smaller bellhousing.
218hp model x5 30d
E90models have bigger bellhousing.
How much was the drive shaft?

Anything is possible! That adapter on the output of the trans is key to mating to the transfer case. Do you know who that was? I’d love to chat

I have a e39 manual peddal box but doesn't seem to fit on the e53
Mines an auto obviously and I don't wanya manual but converting to RWD is tempting. I've heard they drive much better in rwd.

How $ is cost)) all. That
how much does this cost total. i want to do this to my x5 but idk if i can do all the work.

Which lsd did you use? Great vid.
Mfactory. Bolted right on but it’s like 60% so it’s tight

Save that automatic transmission. They're rare and can be rebuilt.
I think I want to explore how to mate the transfer case to the 420G, use it to prototype that setup maybe
@@Garageaholic was just about to ask. it was a shame you couldn't keep the transfer case.
